Andy James Blends Jazz, Country, and Blues on New Album ‘The Architect of My Blues’

0

Le Coq Records announces the release of jazz vocalist Andy James’ new 8-track album, The Architect Of My Blues, to be available on all major digital streaming platforms on November 14. CD and vinyl editions will be available exclusively through the Le Coq Bandcamp store, and worldwide physical distribution begins December 12.

Produced by Piero Pata and Jon Cowherd, the new collection blends James’ signature jazz vocals with another longtime passion of hers, country music, and a touch of blues.

For THE ARCHITECT OF MY BLUES, James’ ninth studio album, she draws on the enduring inspiration of Ray Charles, who had a significant impact on country music with his blending of soul, R&B and jazz to classic country songs on his 1962 album Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music. The songwriting sessions with Andy and her all-star jazz band ultimately blossomed into an intimate and high-spirited mood swinging journey in Nashville, in collaboration with top Music City songwriters (Johnny Cooper, Collective Soul, Rebecca Lynn Howard).

Legendary musicians on the album include Jon Cowherd (piano); Vinnie Colaiuta (drums); John Patitucci (bass); James Genus (bass); Nicolas Payton (trumpet); Michael Dease (trombone); Joel Frahm (saxophone); Bob Sheppard (saxophone); Alex Acu-a (percussion); Steve Cardenas (guitar); Greg Leisz (pedal steel); Ronnie Foster (organ); Clarence Penn (drums) and Charlie Bisharat (violin).

The album is the latest in Andy’s ever-evolving discography, as Andy, husband Piero Pata and Jon Cowherd took raw demos of the Nashville-penned songs and recorded them on the West Coast at United Recording, Sunset Marquis, Nightbird Studios and NRG Recording Studios in L.A.; and at StudioA in Las Vegas.

Says James, “We went into the experience not knowing what would happen, but loving how it ended up. We all sat around in a room with Jon on the keyboard and everyone chatting, coming up with ideas and taking notes during the day for a week. Then at night we would all go out and hang at some good country bars with good Southern food. As we developed more songs, I tried out a few of them live.” She continues, “I twice sang the title track, ‘Architect of the Blues,’ which I call a ‘group brainwave’ because it was created by five songwriters, and also ‘Sleeping Heart,’ a lovely ballad that I love about the hope a great friend can give you.”

Adds Pata: “Creating The Architect of My Blues with Andy, Jon, and the Nashville writers was pure creative alchemy. Ideas flowed effortlessly, and the songs felt destined to exist. Bringing those sketches to life with such incredible musicians was a dream and a reminder of the magic that happens when you trust collaboration and let the music lead.”

Says Cowherd: “It was amazing to write these songs “Nashville style”. Which is to sit in a circle and throw out ideas and make compositional decisions democratically. We put together a very accomplished group of songwriters. Some who are great recording artists themselves and it rendered fantastic results.”

Seven of the tunes are co-writes by Cowherd and different mixes and matches of the team that included Nicole Atkins, Tre Burt, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Emily Levy and Ryan Scott. The only exceptions to the full on collabs are Cowherd’s instrumental ballad, “Wilson’s Gospel” (featuring violinist Charlie Bisharat) and the final track, the charming, uplifting romantic ballad “Our Favorite Little Street,” composed by Ryan Scott.

Hardy will embark on the Country! Country! Tour in 2026. The tour presented by Live Nation kicks off in February in Ontario and continues through August with arenas and amphitheaters across North America. Genre standouts Cameron Whitcomb, Tucker Wetmore, Mitchell Tenpenny, Muscadine Bloodline, Jake Worthington, and McCoy Moore will join the tour for select dates.

Presales start today (Tues, Oct 7th) at noon local time, ahead of the general sale on Friday, October 10th at 10 am local time. VIP Packages include premium tickets, exclusive meet and greet and individual photo with Hardy, VIP-exclusive merchandise and more. VIP package contents vary based on the offer selected.

Hardy’s new album Country! Country! is a return to his roots. The album and tour take their name literally with songs ranging from celebrations of his youth in the Mississippi mud — “Bottomland” being named for a specific camo pattern Hardy favors for hunting — to commentary on the state of country music at large. In sum, it’s a celebration of what makes Hardy Hardy.

The new collection of songs was released as Country! Country! Country!, featuring “Good Ole Boy,” solo penned fan-favorite “Dog Years,” collaborations with Ernest (“Bro Country”) and Stephen Wilson Jr. (“Bedrooms In The Sky”), and surging radio single “Favorite Country Song.”

Wrapping his coast-to-coast rocking Jim Bob World Tour last month, Hardy will round out the year with Country vs. Cancer, a special show benefiting the American Cancer Society – headlining alongside Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley, Lanie Gardner and McCoy Moore at the Pinnacle in Nashville. The charitable show is presented by ACS, his recently launched charity endeavor The Hardy Fund and Whiskey Jam.

11 Songs That Changed Genres Forever

0

Every so often, a song arrives that flips the switch, turning familiar sounds into something entirely new. These 11 tracks reshaped music history and gave birth to fresh genres, movements, and moods.

“…Baby One More Time” – Britney Spears
Pop got a new heartbeat when Britney hit play in 1998. With its mix of R&B rhythms, Swedish production magic, and unstoppable hooks, it set the standard for the next wave of millennium pop.

“Billie Jean” – Michael Jackson
A moonwalk, a bassline, and a beat that defined an era. Michael’s groove blurred the line between pop, funk, and soul, launching modern dance-pop into orbit.

“Blue Monday” – New Order
With its pulsing synths and drum machine precision, this 1983 anthem built the bridge between post-punk and electronic dance music. Club culture found its soundtrack.

“Crazy in Love” – Beyoncé feat. Jay-Z
That horn riff, that strut, that swagger. Beyoncé’s solo breakout blended R&B, hip-hop, and funk with stadium-sized confidence, lighting up a new era of pop empowerment.

“Creep” – Radiohead
Grunge met vulnerability, and alternative rock gained a new emotional core. Radiohead’s 1992 track became the anthem for introspection wrapped in distortion.

“Cross Road Blues” – Robert Johnson
The myth, the man, the guitar. Recorded in 1936, this song carved the foundation for blues and, by extension, rock itself—haunting, raw, and endlessly studied.

“I Want to Hold Your Hand” – The Beatles
Pure electricity in two minutes and twenty-four seconds. The Beatles’ harmonies and youthful charm catapulted rock ‘n’ roll into global pop culture forever.

“Planet Rock” – Afrika Bambaataa & The Soulsonic Force
Synths met turntables, and hip-hop met electro. This 1982 track turned the Bronx’s street rhythms into a futuristic movement that inspired techno and EDM.

“Smells Like Teen Spirit” – Nirvana
A loud, catchy spark from Seattle that sent shockwaves through radio and rewrote rock’s DNA. The energy of garage, punk, and melody all collided here.

“Superstition” – Stevie Wonder
Funk crystallized around that clavinet riff. Stevie’s mastery of rhythm and groove shaped the direction of soul and pop for decades to come.

“Take Me Out” – Franz Ferdinand
The early 2000s indie scene found its dancefloor. With sharp guitar lines and a rhythmic twist, this hit made rock cool, stylish, and infectious all over again.

The Modern Money Lens: How a Tax Calculator Helps You See Your Real Income Clearly

0

By Mitch Rice

There is a story behind every paycheck, but not everything is on the surface. There is a labyrinth of deductions, taxes, a nd secret numbers between the lines of the salary slip. The sum of money that appears big on paper would usually become smaller by the time the account reaches your bank.

This is the reason they should know their real income, as it is no longer a choice but a must. And the easiest way of achieving that transparency is with a tax calculator.

A Clear View of What You Earn

Paper-based salary slips are disorienting – full of abbreviations and small print. However, with a salary estimation tool, it is all easy.

You do not only get numbers when you use salary-calculator.ai. You see:

  • Your real income (the money that you own).
  • Your tax profile (what you pay to the system).
  • Your benefits influence (how perks and bonuses affect your ultimate compensation).

This knowledge will transform your salary into a valuable map.

Why It’s Time to Stop Guessing Your Finances

Previously, individuals would wait at the close of the financial year in order to know their tax deductions. However, in the modern world, where people can change behavior, work as freelancers, and work remotely, it is no longer possible to wait.

You have the control of a modern tax calculator. It helps you:

  • Determine your estimated tax payment for this year.
  • Find out the impact of a job change on income.
  • Compare take-home remuneration on varying remuneration packages.
  • Having a financial advisor in your pocket is like having one 24/7, and at no cost.

The Invisible Good: Financial Confidence

Being able to know your money is not just a matter of counting, but it is confidence-building.

Having a precise estimate of your salary, you no longer have to make any decision in fear or perplexity. You begin to plan with a purpose. It is possible to establish targets and goals for savings, become smarter about investing, and even become more open and confident when discussing money.

Such clarity assists you in changing your reactive spending and getting into deliberate planning.

What Technology Is Doing to Personal Finance

At some point, the computation of taxes was done by turning over government tables or contracting an accountant. It is easy today with the help of technology.

Simple in design and yet incorporating the newest tax law, smart applications such as the salary-calculator.ai can provide precise outcomes immediately.

These tools are not just calculators of tax, but they also teach people. They demonstrate the interaction of income structure, deductions, and benefits. This openness is redefining the way individuals conceive money.

A tax calculator is, in a sense, a teacher, a teacher who makes personal finance easy for all people.

Numbers to Decisions: The Real Value

A figure on a screen is nothing until it aids you in making a decision.

You can check some real-life what-if situations:

  • What if I get a 10% raise?
  • Suppose I make retirement investments?
  • What should I do? Should I go freelance?

The calculator makes the effect of these changes on your salary estimate and taxes immediately appear. That is why it is among the most useful decision-making tools of modern professionals.

Final Words

Money is not about being rich; it is about being clear.

You can get such clarity with a tax calculator, which is a simple tool.

It makes you realize how much your time, effort, and income are really worth, not the amount that you see on paper.

Take a moment then, before you next get a paycheck. Go to salary-calculator.ai, fill in the information, and see what the figures say.

Since you cannot count money when you can see your salary, you do not make money by counting money; you create meaning.

Data and information are provided for informational purposes only, and are not intended for investment or other purposes.

Miles Davis’ Legendary 1965 Chicago Club Recordings Return with ‘The Complete Live at the Plugged Nickel’

0

Six decades later, the music still wows, baffles, and inspires. What happened over two nights in a tiny, unassuming Chicago club under a bakery was a fascinating and unplanned documentation of a pivotal moment in the evolution of Miles Davis’s leadership and sound. Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, today announce the reissue of these legendary recordings: THE COMPLETE LIVE AT THE PLUGGED NICKEL 1965. Arriving January 30, 2026, as a cornerstone moment in the year-long celebration of Miles Davis’ Centennial to come next year, this comprehensive collection will be available as a 10LP or 8CD box set. Pre-orders begin today.

As a preview of the larger collection, a standalone 2LP set, Live At The Plugged Nickel: December 23, 1965 – Second Set, will be released for RSD Black Friday on November 28.

The recordings capture Miles Davis’s Second Great Quintet—featuring Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams—at an inflection point. Wayne Shorter was just over a year into his tenure, and the group, fresh off of recording E.S.P., was solidifying into what would become the most transformative small group in jazz. What unfolded on the stage of the Chicago club was not just a performance, but a provocation. Sparked by a pact instigated by drummer Tony Williams to play “anti-music,” the band actively subverted expectations, turning their well-tread setlist inside out. As Miles would later put it, “We found ways to make the old music sound as new as the new music we were recording.” It is the sound of the Second Great Quintet becoming itself—alive, unstable, and always mid-mutation.

Originally released in 1995 as a Mosaic Records limited-edition LP box set, The Complete Live at the Plugged Nickel has been out of print for nearly three decades. The new 10LP edition recreates the Mosaic musical presentation and offers the complete performances—over seven hours of music—in a newly designed slipcase featuring ten individual jackets and a 40-page booklet. An 8CD edition will also be available. Both formats feature new liner notes by Syd Schwartz, who unpacks the radical spirit of the performances, as well as classic material by jazz historian Bob Blumenthal.

“The Plugged Nickel tapes don’t just capture great performances. They document a band revolutionizing improvisation in real time, welcoming surprise, discarding certainty, and turning ‘wrong’ notes into revelations,” remarks Schwartz in the new liner notes. “What unfolded on that stage has become one of the most mythologized stretches in post-bop history.”

The release has only grown in stature since its initial issue. The Guardian hailed it as “Maybe the best-ever representation of ‘the second great quintet’ at work…reinventing small-band jazz with an all-but-psychic flexibility of timing and on-the-fly harmonising.”

Sixty years later, The Complete Live at the Plugged Nickel 1965 returns, humming like a live wire and daring a new generation of listeners to rethink what’s possible.

Creeper Unleash New Album ‘Sanguivore II: Mistress of Death,’ Out Halloween

0

CREEPER’Sanguivore proved to be their most career-defining album to date, propelling them to their biggest headline show at the OVO Wembley Arena.

Their new album SANGUIVORE II: MISTRESS OF DEATHwhich will be released on Halloween (October 31) goes deeper into that narrative. After enamoring devotees and newcomers alike with the double shot of tracks “Headstones“and “Blood Magick (It’s A Ritual),” CREEPER continue to cast a spell of anticipation with the new single “Prey For The Night.”

Throwback darkwave synth stabs flail into the darkness as“Prey For The Night” gets underway, with William von Ghould‘s sinister baritone setting the scene. From there, it becomes a characteristically lavish and larger-than-life sound, blending classic ’80s hard rock riffage, a searing Steinman-esque chorus, theatrical vocal interplay with keyboardist Hannah Greenwood, and a blast of saxophone. Even the title is possessed by a devilishly dark double meaning.

CREEPER’s ambition is to always go bigger, grander and more unpredictable than before — and that’s what they’ve achieved with SANGUIVORE II: MISTRESS OF DEATH. The story follows a British rock band immersed in the decadence of an American tour at the height of the Satanic Panic of the ’80s. Yet each stop leaves fresh decay in the shape of a mysterious trail of deceased fans. The world is quick to lay blame at the bloodied hands of the band, but there’s more to this story than is first apparent… enter the ruthless hunter, Mistress Of Death, who is on their trail with all axe and no mercy.

The album is bookended with narratives from, good friend of the band, Patricia Morrison (Sisters Of Mercy and The Damned). and the strings come courtesy of the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.

CREEPER have raided the abyss to present a range of collectible curiosities for SANGUIVORE II: MISTRESS OF DEATH, which are available HERE.

Physical formats include blood red and full moon white vinyl formats, both of which will soon sell-out their limited edition runs — a SANGUIVORE double-bill cassette housed in an old school VHS case has already sold-out. New merch designs are just as imaginative, led by a “Mistress of Death” embroidered bomber jacket and a “SANGUIVORE 666” ice hockey shirt.

This year has already seen CREEPER complete sold-out UK headline shows as well as storm festivals from Rock Am Ring/Rock Am Park and Graspop through to Bloodstock and Tomorrow’s Ghosts. Next up is a run of shows as special guests to Ice Nine Kills.

CREEEPER will also appear at the MCM Comic Con at London’s ExCel on October 25. Their social media mistress Darcia, The Vampire Familiar will host a live panel to discuss the new album, and they will also participate in a meet-and-greet signing session.

Taylor Swift Talks ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ Travis Kelce, and Reinventing Creativity on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up

0

Taylor Swift joined SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up this week to discuss her recently released album The Life of a Showgirl. The global pop star spoke with SiriusXM hosts Nicole Ryan, Ryan Sampson, and Stanley T about her new album, fiancé Travis Kelce, finding love at the same time as Selena Gomez, answered a question from Ed Sheeran, and more.

Swift recorded the album in 2024 in Sweden with producers Max Martin and Shellback while she was on the European leg of The Eras Tour.

“I think it was just a different type of muscle I was exercising, you know what I mean? At that point in the tour, I was on the European leg of it, which had a lot more shows than I had done on the American leg of it. So it was like more shows, fewer days off. So the physical exhaustion and soreness were at an all-time high at the same time as I was starting to get to do that show with muscle memory,” she says of the project. “And it took a while for that to happen. Like, ’cause it was a, I mean, it’s a three and a half hour show, but I was starting to be able to be like, okay, wait, my body’s getting more tired. My mind is more able to do this on autopilot, and I never wanna do this show on autopilot. So, I need to do something to flex these creative muscles and go in there and like really exercise that other part of my brain. And what it ended up doing was like reinvigorating every single aspect of my life, including the tour. Which made me just able to like, recommit myself to the show even more. If that makes any sense.”

Her song “Wood” is making headlines for its shocking lyrical content. She said her mom may be oblivious that the song is about her fiancé’s manhood.

“I think that she thinks that that song is about superstitions, popular superstitions, which, which it absolutely is,” she shares. “That’s the joy of the double entendre. That song, you could read that song for people, and it just goes right over their heads. That song, you see in that song what you wanna see in that song.”

Over the weekend, Swift released four limited edition CDs with two acoustic bonus tracks each. They were available for 24 hours only. Those add to an onslaught of variants offered through her online store and Target.

The Life of a Showgirl broke multiple major records, setting new milestones in both sales and streaming upon its release last week. The album sold 1.2 million vinyl copies in its debut week in the US, surpassing the previous record holder, which was her own album, The Tortured Poets Department at 859,000 copies. It sold 2.7 million copies (physical and digital) in the U.S. on its first day of release, a feat that surpassed the entire first-week sales of her previous album, The Tortured Poets Department, with 2.61 million equivalent album units.

The 2.7 million first-day sales made it the second-largest sales week for any album since Luminate began tracking data in 1991, trailing only Adele’s 25, which sold 3.378 million in its first week. The first-day sales volume instantly made it the best-selling album of the year.

Before its release, the album broke the record for the most pre-saves on Spotify, surpassing six million pre-saves and breaking the previous record held by The Tortured Poets Department. The album became Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day for the year, reaching the milestone in under 11 hours. The lead single, “The Fate of Ophelia,” broke the record for the most-streamed song in a single day on Spotify, accumulating over 30 million streams.

The album became the most-streamed album of all time in its first day on Amazon Music. It also captured the year’s highest first-day album streams worldwide on Apple Music.

The limited theatrical release of the film, The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, grossed an estimated $33 million in North America, becoming the highest-grossing album debut event in cinema history.
