Metal Meets the Cosmos: The Sword Extend ‘Warp Riders’ 15th Anniversary Tour Across the U.S.

0

The Sword has extended their highly-anticipated Warp Riders 15th Anniversary tour, adding a new leg that sees the trek now span the U.S.

“This is probably the only chance people will have to see us perform the entire album, so don’t miss out!” says JD Cronise.

Upon its 2010 release, the 10-track Warp Riders was praised by the BBC for its “level of fantastical grandeur… on par with the bands who built the power metal subgenre,” while The Quietus called it “brilliant,” and Pitchfork dubbed it “Camaro-ready riff-rock.”

The legendary Austin-based band announced their reunion earlier this year, bringing their signature blend of crushing heaviness and cosmic groove back to audiences who have long awaited their comeback. JD Cronise, in conversation with Revolver, discussed The Sword’s Levitation Festival performance as a turning point for the foursome, describing the experience as “like putting on a comfortable pair of sneakers.” Kyle Shutt added: “I can’t tell you what it means to see everyone’s positive reception. It feels so good to see people out there almost more enthusiastic about the band than ever – it’s something we’ll never take for granted.”

Why Music Still Shapes How We Experience Technology

0

By Mitch Rice

Music and technology have always shared a rhythm. One provides the tools; the other gives them soul. From the hum of early radios to today’s AI-generated playlists, sound remains at the core of how humans connect with machines. It guides attention, builds emotion and transforms cold code into human experience. The more advanced our devices become, the more they rely on music to make them feel alive.

The Pulse of Innovation

Every major tech evolution has had its soundtrack. The record player brought intimacy. The Walkman introduced portability. Streaming turned ownership into access. Each leap changed not only how we listened but how we felt. Music has a way of humanising innovation — grounding progress in emotion. That’s why every major brand, app or device uses sound strategically. From the chirp of a message to the chime of a startup tone, these micro-moments form an emotional contract between human and machine.

In design terms, sound acts like glue. It bridges actions with feedback and emotion. Without those subtle tones, most devices would feel sterile and disconnected. Research into sound design shows that music and audio cues improve satisfaction and retention across nearly every industry — because rhythm helps people remember.

Soundtracks that Shape Experience

Music has always amplified storytelling, but in interactive media, it now drives it. Think about gaming, film and streaming — the soundtracks set mood, tempo and immersion. In digital experiences, that emotional thread is even more crucial. It tells the brain what to feel and when.
Here’s how sound shapes user experience across industries:

  • Games: Music adapts dynamically to player actions, shifting tempo during intense moments or relaxing between challenges. It’s more than background noise; it’s behavioural feedback.
  • Apps: Notification sounds and audio cues create habit loops. They remind users that something’s happening — and reward interaction.
  • Film and streaming: Consistent sound identity builds brand memory. You hear the Netflix “ta-dum” once and your brain prepares for story mode.
Sound builds meaning where visuals end. It signals emotion faster than any other medium, which is why it continues to drive engagement even in the most advanced digital ecosystems.

The Bridge Between Music and Technology

Technology now adapts to us, not the other way around. Algorithms curate playlists that anticipate our moods. AI music tools compose soundtracks in real time. Yet, behind all that automation is a timeless human truth: we connect through rhythm.
Designers and developers use music to make digital products feel more human. They study beats per minute the way marketers study click-through rates. They measure resonance, not just resolution. And they understand that music isn’t decoration — it’s guidance.
In the gaming world, this principle is amplified. Music mirrors energy, helping players focus and feel rewarded. Platforms like the best online pokies in Australia demonstrate how sound design enhances engagement. The auditory elements — chimes, rising tones, soft beats — replicate the emotional arc of anticipation and release. It’s not about winning or losing; it’s about rhythm and satisfaction. When done well, sound transforms play from action into atmosphere.

Why Sound Still Matters

Music’s role in technology endures because it appeals to both sides of the brain. Logic processes visuals and structure, while emotion processes melody and tone. When they align, users stay longer, feel more connected and remember more vividly. That’s why modern UX design treats audio like colour — a tool for contrast, mood and identity.
The synergy between music and technology also fuels innovation in how we consume, create and respond to digital content. Some key trends shaping this space include:

  1. AI-assisted creation: Tools like generative sound engines compose tracks that react to user activity, turning static experiences into living ones.
  2. Personalised sound environments: Platforms are beginning to tailor audio profiles based on listener data — adjusting tempo, bass and rhythm dynamically.
  3. Immersive storytelling: Virtual and augmented reality rely heavily on spatial sound to simulate presence and emotion, proving that audio defines realism as much as visuals.
  4. Emotional analytics: Developers are experimenting with systems that detect mood through music choices, allowing tech to “feel” with its users.

The Future Sounds Human

Music’s partnership with technology is evolving, but the goal remains the same: to make digital spaces feel human. We’re entering an era where devices no longer just respond to commands — they anticipate emotions. Music is the translator in that dialogue. It tells technology how to speak our language.
Sound continues to give technology its heartbeat. It’s what makes the digital world sing instead of hum. Whether you’re opening an app, streaming a film or spinning a reel, that subtle soundtrack beneath the surface is proof of music’s staying power. It connects logic with feeling, innovation with identity and data with soul.
The next time you tap, swipe or play, listen closely. That rhythm beneath the surface isn’t just noise — it’s a reminder that progress sounds best when it moves in harmony.

Gorillaz Drop “The Manifesto (feat. Trueno and Proof)” from Forthcoming Album ‘The Mountain’

0

Following last month’s triumphant surprise performance of new music and the highly-anticipated release of first track “The Happy Dictator (feat. Sparks)” comes “The Manifesto (feat. Trueno and Proof),” the second track to be released from Gorillaz’ forthcoming studio album, The Mountain.

“The Manifesto” carries the album’s themes of the cycle of life and the afterlife via the extraordinary talent of Latin Grammy-winning Argentine rap prodigy Trueno who deftly trolls his maker with the declaration “Yo no sé qué va a pasar mañana/Cuando atienda la luz que me llama/Mami mi futuro me reclama/Camino hacia la luz/I have nothing to lose” (I don’t know what tomorrow holds/When I heed the light that’s calling me/Baby, my future is demanding me/I walk toward the light/I have nothing to lose) – until the song is arrestingly bisected by a posthumous riposte from the late Detroit-born D12 rapper and Gorillaz collaborator Proof who declaims: “You aren’t ready for death/Until I showed up, hold breath/Until you blow the on one set,” an inspired moment of freestyling, captured minutes before he entered the booth during an early recording session.

The collaborative intent of The Mountain album is further reflected in the celebratory energy of “The Manifesto,” which features sarod players Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash, brothers who are seventh generation musicians of the Gwalior musical lineage; along with the joyous brass of the legendary Jea Band Jaipur who have been “serving Indian weddings since 1936”; as well as Ajay Prasanna on bansuri and The Mountain Choir led by Vijayaa Shanker.

“As space dust we are here forever and that’s a mighty long time. This is a musical meditation infused with light. A journey of the soul, with beats…”  – Russel Hobbs

The Mountain Tour will kick off in Manchester on March 20th 2026 and visit arenas across the UK and Ireland, with dates in Birmingham, Glasgow (SOLD OUT), Leeds, Cardiff (SOLD OUT), Nottingham, Liverpool, Belfast and Dublin, to include a second show in Manchester and Dublin, recently added due to demand; plus a one-off headline show at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday June 20th 2026 – the band’s biggest UK show to date – with support from Sparks and Trueno. Dates and ticket information below and at Gorillaz.com

Alter Bridge Unveil New Single “What Lies Within” from Upcoming Album ‘Alter Bridge,’ Out January 9

0

With the overwhelming response to their first single in over two years, “Silent Divide,” acclaimed rockers Alter Bridge are back with another song from their upcoming eighth studio album, Alter Bridge. “What Lies Within” is now available via all digital service providers from the quartet comprised of Myles Kennedy on vocals/guitars, Mark Tremonti on guitars/vocals, Brian Marshall on bass, and Scott Phillips on drums.

The song opens with a driving guitar riff from Kennedy and Tremonti before the rhythmic groove of Marshall and Phillips pushes it forward. The lyrics are a cautionary tale of the darkness inside mankind, as Kennedy sings, “What lies within, beneath the skin, something so dark and foreboding.” J.T. Ibanez directed an animated video for “What Lies Within.”

With more than two decades performing together, acclaimed rockers Alter Bridge show no signs of slowing down. Known for their memorable riffs, infectious vocal melodies, and dueling guitar attack, the quartet has garnered massive critical and fan acclaim around the globe. The band looks to continue that trend when they release their self-titled eighth studio album next year via Napalm Records. Alter Bridge will be released on January 9, 2026.

The album features 12 new tracks. Songs like “Rue The Day,” “Disregarded,” and “Scales Are Falling” will fit alongside any of the classic songs from Alter Bridge’s catalog. “Trust In Me” shows Myles and Mark sharing vocal duties as Myles handles the verse duties while Mark takes the chorus. That strategy is flipped on “Tested And Able” as Mark handles the verses and Myles takes on the choruses behind one of the band’s heaviest intros to date, giving way to an unforgettable melody. “Hang By A Thread” will become a show favorite as it hints at some of the most popular songs in the band’s catalog. The album closer “Slave To Master” is an epic track that Alter Bridge has come to be known for and is the longest song the quartet has recorded.

The first single, “Silent Divide,” has been moving up the active rock charts since it was released last month and has been viewed over two million times since it was released. The band worked with longtime collaborator and producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette on their eighth album. Alter Bridge was recorded over two months this spring in the legendary 5150 studio in California and Elvis’s recording studio in Florida.

Wolfgang Van Halen Announces Third Album ‘The End,’ Out October 24

0

Wolfgang Van Halen has unveiled all the information for his upcoming third album, The End. The album – released by BMG – is slated for release on October 24.

The 10-track album clocks in at 39-minuttes and showcases the evolution of Wolf and his songwriting since he launched his solo career in 2020. Recorded at the legendary 5150 studio, the album was produced by friend and collaborator Michael “Elvis” Baskette.

Continuing the tradition of writing all the songs and performing all the instrumentation and vocals himself, Wolfgang Van Halen set out to challenge himself beyond what he did on his debut and sophomore release, Mammoth II. From the hypnotic opening of “One Of A Kind” to infectious closer “All In Good Time,” Wolfgang demonstrates his proficiency as a musician and songwriter. Songs like “Same Old Song,” “Happy,” and “Selfish” will fit perfectly alongside older songs that fans have already come to love from Mammoth.

Mammoth released their first single in May, and it has shot up the charts currently in the Top 5 at Active Rock radio. The success of the single was propelled by the landmark music video – a remake of the classic film From Dusk ‘Til Dawn – directed by Robert Rodriguez and Greg Nicotero. The video is approaching 4-million views and contains cameos from Danny Trejo, Slash, Myles Kennedy, and of course his mother Valerie Bertinelli. To coincide with the album announcement, Mammoth is releasing the track “The Spell” for fans to check out. Now available via all digital service providers, the performance music video showing Wolfgang playing all the instruments and directed by visual collaborator Gordy De St. Jeor, can be streamed below:

The End is available for pre-order in multiple configurations including limited edition vinyl colors, signed insert version and retailer exclusives here.
