Nashies rejoice! Nashville is returning with a brand new season on CMT
Nashies rejoice! On the heels of tremendous outcry from legions of devoted fans, CMT, Hulu, Lionsgate and ABC Studios today announced that the critically acclaimed and fan darling series “Nashville” will return with a brand new season on CMT. Â Long-time SVOD partner Hulu will continue to bring fans their favorite series 24/7 by making all “Nashville” episodes available to stream the day after they air on CMT.
The series is produced by Lionsgate, ABC Studios, and Opry Entertainment. Production will commence in Nashville with Ed Zwick andMarshall Herskovitz (the creators of “Thirtysomething”) at the helm. The deal, negotiated by Lionsgate Television Group PresidentSandra Stern on behalf of Lionsgate and ABC Studios, Sarah Levy of Viacom Kids and Family Group on behalf of CMT, and Hulu executives, is an orchestrated initiative to ensure that “Nashville” fans will continue to have the same level of access to their favorite show.
“CMT heard the fans. The wave of love and appreciation they have unleashed for ‘Nashville‘ has been overwhelming,” said Brian Philips, President of CMT. “‘Nashville‘ is a perfect addition to our evolving line-up of big music specials, documentaries, and original series. We see our fans and ourselves in this show and we will treasure it like no other network. Nashville belongs on CMT.”
“‘Nashville‘ has long been a fan favorite show on Hulu and we are so proud to continue to make new episodes available for fans to stream the day after they air,” said Craig Erwich, SVP and Head of Content, Hulu. “We look forward to bringing even more episodes of this acclaimed series to its passionate and devoted audience.”
“CMT and Hulu are the perfect combination for our iconic and beloved series ‘Nashville‘ and we want to thank the incredible fans for their unwavering support—#Nashies, you helped make this possible,” said Kevin Beggs, Chairman of the Lionsgate Television Group. “We also want to extend our appreciation to the State of Tennessee, City of Nashville, and Ryman Hospitality for their unending support. They have been a key ingredient to the continued success of this show and we’re thrilled to extend our partnership for a fifth season.”
“We always had faith that we would find a way to bring ‘Nashville‘ back to its devoted fans, and we’re very proud to be in partnership with CMT and Hulu to extend the life of this series,” said Patrick Moran, Executive Vice President, ABC Studios.
The recently wrapped fourth season of “Nashville” attracted more than 8 million weekly viewers across all platforms and ranks as one of television’s most DVR’d series. Â The series is particularly strong with women 18-34. Â Out of more than 180 broadcast dramas since Fall 2012, “Nashville” ranks in the top 20.
The series airs in 82 international markets on six continents. Â Since its debut, the show has inspired 10 soundtracks, including a Christmas album, which have collectively sold more than one million album units and over 5 million single-track downloads to date. Â It has also been nominated for multiple Emmy, Golden Globe and Critics Choice awards.
“Nashville” is set against the backdrop of the city’s music scene and follows Rayna Jaymes and Juliette Barnes. Both women face personal and professional challenges as they navigate their paths as artists and individuals. Surrounding them and often complicating their lives are their family, friends and, in some cases, lovers, as well as the up-and-coming performers and songwriters trying to get ahead in the business. Music City can mean so many things to different people. In “Nashville,” musicians and songwriters are at the heart of the storm driven by their own ambitions. Some are fueled by their creativity and passion for fame. Others struggle to cope with the pressures of success and are doing everything in their power to stay on top.

2016 U.S. Open Championship coverage airs nationwide on SiriusXM Canada
SiriusXM Canada, the country’s leading audio entertainment company, will be the exclusive national radio broadcaster for the 116th U.S. Open Championship, offering listeners nationwide extensive coverage from historic Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania throughout U.S. Open week, including all four days of Championship play – June 16 through June 19.
Few courses in the world are as challenging and steeped in championship tradition as Oakmont, which has hosted more major championships than any other course in the U.S., including eight U.S. Opens, five U.S. Amateurs, and two U.S. Women’s Opens. SiriusXM’s programming will feature more than 30 hours of live hole-by-hole coverage across all four rounds of play, as well as a possible Monday playoff. Live championship coverage will begin each championship day at 12:00 pm ET.
SiriusXM’s Brian Katrek will anchor the play-by-play broadcast with former PGA Tour pro Mark Carnevale serving as the analyst in the booth. A team of roving reporters, featuring veteran broadcasters and Tour pros Fred Albers, Doug Bell, Maureen Madill, John Maginnes and Dennis Paulson, will provide commentary from around the course.
All programming will be available to subscribers nationwide on satellite radios (Sirius channel 208, XM channel 92) and on the SiriusXM app.
Leading up to the Championship, SiriusXM will also present a series of specials hosted by esteemed Oakmont head professional Bob Ford, who joined SiriusXM as a host in 2015:
“Jack’s First Major”
This Saturday, June 4 (11:00 am ET), SiriusXM will debut an hour-long retrospective on Jack Nicklaus’ first major victory, which came at the 1962 U.S. Open played at Oakmont. Ford and his co-host, Taylor Zarzour, sat down for a long-form conversation with Nicklaus, who looks back at his playoff victory over heavily-favored Arnold Palmer. After Saturday’s debut, the special will air several times leading up to the U.S. Open.
“Major Champions at Oakmont”
On Monday, June 6 (8:00 pm ET) Ford and Zarzour host a special featuring interviews with several players who won major championships at Oakmont, including Nicklaus (1962 U.S. Open), Johnny Miller (1973 U.S. Open), Ernie Els (1994 U.S. Open), John Mahaffey (1978 PGA Championship) and others.
“18 Holes at Oakmont with Bob Ford & Eric Church”
On Saturday, June 11 (11:00 am ET) Ford will give listeners a hole by hole look at the U.S. Open course at Oakmont alongside country music superstar and avid golfer Eric Church. Ford and Church, who played the course together last month, will share their unique perspectives on what players will face – lightning fast greens, the famous Church Pew bunkers, and more – when they play one of the world’s most challenging courses.
“Playing for Pride Live”
Ford will also host his regular SiriusXM show, Playing for Pride, live from the media center during U.S. Open week (June 14 at 4:00 pm ET).
The U.S. Open Championship, conducted by the United States Golf Association, is the most democratic of the major championships, as evidenced by its global qualification process. In 2016, the USGA accepted more than 9,800 entries from professional and amateur golfers to compete for its most prestigious championship.
In addition to live Championship coverage, SiriusXM’s daily U.S. Open coverage will feature exclusive shows hosted by World Golf Hall of Famers Ben Crenshaw and Hale Irwin; major-winners Mark Calcavecchia, Larry Mize and Craig Stadler; former tour prosChris DiMarco, Mark Lye and Carl Paulson; as well as top instructors Hank Haney, David Leadbetter, Jim McLean, Larry Rinker,Dave Stockton and Golf Channel’s Michael Breed.
Martin Davis will host a special devoted to the history of the U.S. Open at Oakmont, featuring archival audio highlights from past events dating back to the 1920s. The special debuts Sunday, June 12 at 11:00 am ET and airs multiple times during U.S. Open week.
SiriusXM’s programming lineup will also feature shows hosted by Matt Adams, Fred Albers, David Armitage, Brian Crowell, Frank Darby, John Feinstein, Greg Warmoth, Jeff Warne, Taylor Zarzour and others. Visit www.siriusxm.ca/sports/pga for a daily schedule.

Daniel Radcliffe on what made Alan Rickman so great is a lesson for all of us
“Alan Rickman is undoubtedly one of the greatest actors I will ever work with. He is also, one of the loyalest and most supportive people I’ve ever met in the film industry. He was so encouraging of me both on set and in the years post-Potter. I’m pretty sure he came and saw everything I ever did on stage both in London and New York. He didn’t have to do that. I know other people who’ve been friends with him for much much longer than I have and they all say ‘if you call Alan, it doesn’t matter where in the world he is or how busy he is with what he’s doing, he’ll get back to you within a day’.People create perceptions of actors based on the parts they played so it might surprise some people to learn that contrary to some of the sterner (or downright scary) characters he played, Alan was extremely kind, generous, self-deprecating and funny. And certain things obviously became even funnier when delivered in his unmistakable double-bass.As an actor he was one of the first of the adults on Potter to treat me like a peer rather than a child. Working with him at such a formative age was incredibly important and I will carry the lessons he taught me for the rest of my life and career. Film sets and theatre stages are all far poorer for the loss of this great actor and man.”
