UK Soul Icon Sarah Jane Morris Honors Trailblazers On ‘The Sisterhood 2’

0

Acclaimed UK vocalist Sarah Jane Morris and guitarist Tony Rémy unveil ‘The Sisterhood 2’, arriving on March 6th ahead of International Women’s Day with 11 new tracks celebrating the most influential female singer-songwriters of our time. The first single, ‘The Edge is Where The Magic Is Found’ written for Amy Winehouse is out today.

Many will be aware of The Sisterhood, the project Sarah Jane Morris and Tony Rémy unveiled in 2024, in which ten of the most notable female singer-songwriters of the Twentieth Century were the subjects of a unique song cycle. Morris and Rémy were already aware that ten was insufficient – others had to be included.

The momentum of writing and creating did not falter, and by the time of its earliest performance The Sisterhood had become twelve, with ink-undried songs for Patti Smith and the then so recently and so tragically departed Sinéad O’Connor being added to the ten originals. Since then, another nine have been written. Peggy Seeger, Etta James, Joan Baez, Dolly Parton, Bonnie Raitt, Joan Armatrading, Janis Ian, Tracy Chapman and Amy Winehouse have become part of the project, brought together in a second volume of unsurpassed quality.

Morris says that there are three qualifying factors for a singer to be included in the sisterhood. First, all must be artists of excellence and originality. Next, they must be writers as well as interpreters. Lastly, almost all have understood that talent and success give them voices to communicate on subjects of conscience. They have accepted the responsibility which goes with opportunity, to act as witnesses, spokeswomen and champions for those whose voices are unheard. All possess courage and lead by example.

Longing To Be Free (for Peggy Seeger) is a powerful feminist anthem and biographical narrative of the events, relationships and causes of a legendary life in musical activism. For Sinéad O’Connor, Oh Mother My Mother is both Celtic elegy and Ovidian dream, in which Sinéad and her mother are reunited as birds beside an imaginary lake and attempt non-temporal reconciliation. For Tracy Chapman, I Can Hear Jesus Weeping, melodically enchanting, expresses a bitter reproach for the abandonment of those most in need of protection: ‘Pity us and pity those who cannot hear the children cry’. For Amy Winehouse, The Edge is Where the Magic is Found (out now) is a jazz ballad in which Amy herself would have delighted, and which focuses on the young singer’s artistry touching lightly on the tragedy of her fall. Love Wit & Stardust (for Dolly Parton) pays tribute to the woman who, perhaps more effectively than any other, communicates universal human values of inclusion, generosity and moral clarity to everyone, ‘from Heaven to the Grand Old Opry’. Joan Baez’s song, Always Both and Never, describes the paradox that militant non-violence risks deadly reprisal; this song recalls the heroism and sacrifice that co-existed with the hedonism of the Sixties. Sweet Mama Raitt (for Bonnie Raitt) is adorned with a perfectly fashioned vocal tribute: ‘Your songs make me feel like I’ve been talking with you’ – and pays special regard to Raitt’s extraordinary song about organ donation. The song for Joan Armatrading, Let Only Love Remain is a musical tour-de-force which displays subtle understanding of Armatrading’s art, while wrapping the enigma of her fiercely guarded privacy. The song for Patti Smith, Crazy Angel, is a beautifully sustained piece of performance poetry which owes quite a lot to Patti herself, but which is sharply expressive of intention. Patti’s art, in Morris’s hand, becomes a mirror of Smith’s own magnificence Also Known as Etta James (for Etta James) is a dark, pulsing number full of the atmosphere of danger which characterised the life of an uncompromising black artist in the America of her time.  Janis Ian’s story, The Dignity of Love, artfully proclaiming human love in all its diversity, plays the album out with a gloriously sustained finale lasting over nine minutes, leaving the listener aching for more.

Sarah Jane Morris is aware of the power and quality of her vocal instrument, undiminished as she commands the stage through her fifth decade as an internationally acclaimed singer. Her intelligence, range and command of narrative structure and emotional truth are at their height. Her dramatic training enables her to deliver extended, super-demanding lyrics with flawless intelligibility. ‘The Sisterhood 2’ provides startling new material such gifts demand. With Tony Rémy (a friend and colleague since the nineteen eighties) she has found the ideal creative partner. They know each other so well, a mutual recognition of superlative standards and world-class practice, that their work proceeds with smooth understanding and absolute trust. Tony has long been regarded as one of the leading and most versatile guitarists anywhere in the world; he once replaced Clapton in Jack Bruce’s band, is a master of Soul, Jazz, Funk and African Blues and a composer of invention and originality. His role in The Sisterhood as co-writer and co-producer is the other half of a magical equation – the voice, the words, the guitar, the shared expertise, the endless knowledge of what is needed, and where to go for the answer to that need – Morris and Rémy have it all, and ‘The Sisterhood 2’ is their latest masterwork.

According to Sarah Jane, The Sisterhood is all about the passing of the torch from sister to sister. As we listen to these wonderful songs, we are quickly convinced of Sarah Jane as a bearer of that torch, and that this project is the definitive evidence of her rightful place among the very best.

See The Sisterhood performed live at 229 Great Portland St on International Women’s Day March 8th with a 12-piece band and a 30-piece masterclass choir. Tickets on sale now.

Lana Del Rey Unveils “White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter” From ‘Stove’

0

Lana Del Rey has released “White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter,” a new song from her forthcoming album ‘Stove.’ The track was written by Del Rey alongside her husband Jeremy Dufrene, sister Chuck Grant, and brother-in-law Jason Pickens, with production by longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff. The song adds another striking chapter to Del Rey’s cinematic catalog.

Del Rey first announced “White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter” on February 7 via Instagram Stories, calling it her “favorite song” on the record and revealing that a music video had already been completed. The track carries her signature atmosphere, layered with intimate lyricism and a slow-burning sense of drama that unfolds line by line.

As for the album’s arrival, Del Rey shared that ‘Stove’ should land “soon,” explaining, “’Cause vinyl takes three months, so three months plus two weeks. It could be, give or take, a bit less than that.” The rollout reflects a careful, hands-on process shaped around physical production timelines.

The project has undergone several evolutions. Originally titled Lasso and slated for September 2024, it was later renamed The Right Person Will Stay with a May 21, 2025 release date. In August 2025, Del Rey shifted plans once more, moving the album to January 2026 and retitling it ‘Stove.’ With a new single now in the world, anticipation continues to build.

Country Newcomer Dusty Black Drops Soulful Self Titled EP February 27

0

Texas-born, Memphis-raised country newcomer Dusty Black will release his self-titled EP, Dusty Black, on February 27, with pre-save / pre-add available immediately.   Produced by Mickey Jack Cones (Dustin Lynch, Joe Nichols), the six-track project is Dusty’s first EP release since signing with QHMG / Stone Country Records. It introduces Dusty’s soulful brand of contemporary country—from hard-edged, rural rock anthems to tender, tuneful songs about romantic moments and family memories.

Dusty’s EP heralds the next chapter in a deep-rooted family legacy that began with his grandfather, Floyd Black “Junior,” who played banjo and guitar in Johnny Cash’s band. Dusty’s musical sensibilities were also shaped by the country ballads of his father, Allen Black, whose passing inspired Dusty to step back from a successful business career and focus on music full time.

“This EP is the end result of a lot of soul-searching about who I am and who I want to be,” says Dusty. “That’s why my name is in the title, but whoever you are, I hope you’ll love my songs because they tell your own story too.”   The EP’s focus track is “Don’t That Sound Like Her,” a brotherly warning to a heartbreaker’s new man from the guy who’s already seen this story play out once before. The sweet romance of the track’s opening verses explodes into the pain of the full-throttle chorus, revealing the hell and the hurt that this woman’s taillights have left behind.

Another unreleased highlight, “In That Case,” is a rockin’ good time about a guy making the best of a bad situation. His girl may have split, but she can’t kill his buzz if he heads to the fridge and pops open one of the 24 cold beers in that case. The EP also features “Curveball,” a heartfelt tribute to a man who coaches his son in life, not just baseball, and “Goodbye Drives Me Crazy,” a difficult farewell dedicated to anybody whose job requires time on the road, away from loved ones.

Dust Off of Me” is an instantly relatable song about falling in love again after a long-ago heartbreak, while the EP’s closer, “I Don’t Wanna Be Right” is a defiant backwoods anthem celebrating all that makes country life unique—from putting on camo to hanging up a buck rack.   Signing with Stone Country Records in 2024, Dusty’s growing music catalog has earned more than 17 million streams as he continues to inspire others with his story of love, loss, legacy, and the courage to follow one’s heart.

Thee Sacred Souls, LA LOM & The Womack Sisters Announce ‘The Constellation’ Tour

0

Thee Sacred Souls, LA LOM, and The Womack Sisters join together to bring heart melting harmonies, genre-blurring grooves, and timeless soul on their Constellation Tour across North America, produced by Live Nation.

Hailing from Southern California, raised on classic soul, Cumbia and cookouts, this is the sound of the modern West Coast. Thee Sacred Souls’ tender slow burns, LA LOM’s Latin instrumental heat, and The Womack Sisters’ kindred harmonies roll nationwide this August and September.

Tickets will be available starting with an artist presale beginning on Wednesday, February 18th at 10am local. Additional presales will run throughout the week ahead of the general on sale beginning Friday, February 20th at 10am local time.

Citi cardmembers will have access to presale tickets beginning Wednesday, February 18th at 8am local time until Thursday, February 19th at 10pm local time through the Citi Entertainment program. For complete presale details visit www.citientertainment.com.

For the uninitiated, Thee Sacred Souls are a modern soul trio from San Diego who blend 1960s and 1970s R&B warmth with a modern take. Renowned for their tender vocals, lush instrumentation, and nostalgic production style, the band creates music that is a bridge between classic soul traditions and contemporary emotion. Their 2024 album Got A Story To Tell saw their fan base grow immensely which now brings them to headline grand amphitheatres across North America. The tour reflects the band’s journey—marked by relentless touring, newfound fame, and the trials that come with rapid success. In just two years, the band has performed on NPR’s Tiny Desk, at festivals like Coachella,Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, and several TV show appearances — Jimmy Kimmel Live!, CBS Saturday, PBS’Austin City Limits and Later…with Jools Holland —  while accruing over eight million monthly listeners on Spotify, a growing fanbase that includes celebs like Beyoncé, SZA, Alicia Keys, and Leon Bridges among many others. This tour announcement comes on the heels of two sold-out shows at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on April 22 & 23, 2026.

LA LOM (short for The Los Angeles League of Musicians) is a Los Angeles-based trio blending the warmth of vintage cumbia, bolero, and rock into a golden, cinematic sound that feels both timeless and distinctly Californian. Their self-titled debut album, The Los Angeles League of Musicians (2024), garnered praise for capturing the laid-back soul of East L.A. with instrumental grace and hypnotic rhythm. The band’s music—anchored by lush guitars, tight percussion, and nostalgic melodies—has earned them attention from outlets like the NPR and the LA Times, who described the group as “transcending time periods and genres…” The band has played major festivals including Austin City Limits, Newport Folk & Jazz, Treefort and has headlined tours across North America and Europe. With growing acclaim across indie and Latin music scenes, LA LOM now stands as one of the most exciting voices redefining instrumental Latin fusion today. The Womack Sisters are the hidden gem of the scene, but not for much longer. The Womack Sisters are redefining modern soul with power, pedigree, and pure vocal magic. As the daughters of Cecil and Linda Womack and granddaughters of the legendary Sam Cooke, music runs deep in their DNA. BG, Zeimani, and Kucha Womack blend timeless R&B harmonies with contemporary style, delivering a sound that’s both classic and cutting-edge. Last fall saw the release of their uncompromisingly authentic debut singles with Daptone (listen to “If You Want Me” and “I Just Don’t Want You (To Say Goodbye)” now) produced by soul mainstay Gabe Roth, with new music anticipated for later this year. With critical praise for “reviving the essence of soul for a new generation,” The Womack Sisters are not only honoring their iconic lineage—they’re writing its bold next chapter.
