Paul Brandt To Host 2016 JUNO Songwriters’ Circle

0

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) today announced that eight-time JUNO Award winner and two-time SOCAN Song of the Year Award winner Paul Brandt will host and perform at the 2016 JUNO Songwriters’ Circle. Tickets go on sale on January 15 at 10am MST and are available for $25.00, $37.50, and $49.50 (plus fees). Tickets can be purchased at artscommons.ca, the Arts Commons Box Office or by phone at 403-294-9494.

Considered “the jewel of JUNO Week,” JUNO Songwriters’ Circle is a benefit concert for MusiCounts; Canada’s music education charity associated with CARAS, and features some of Canada’s most talented singer-songwriters sharing their songs and the stories behind them in an intimate concert. Taking place on Sunday, April 3 from 12pm – 2pm MST at the Jack Singer Concert Hall at Arts Commons in Calgary, JUNO Songwriters’ Circle is co-presented by the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers (SOCAN) and Yamaha Canada Music.

The select 2016 JUNO Award nominees joining Paul Brandt on stage will be announced in the coming weeks.

“I’m proud to host this event on behalf of MusiCounts and CARAS,” said Paul Brandt. “It all began with a song for me, and that song would have never been written if I hadn’t had access to my school music program. This will be a unique, intimate event journeying into the stories behind the songs.”

“The all-time musical high that Canada is experiencing globally right now is in large part because of the work of this country’s brilliant songwriters and composers,” said SOCAN CEO Eric Baptiste. “SOCAN is delighted to be a co-sponsor once again of the JUNO Songwriters’ Circle; a showcase of creative magic that puts the work and art of music creation in a well-earned spotlight.”

“Yamaha Canada Music is proud to be a co-sponsor of JUNO Songwriters’ Circle,” said Omar Ales, National Sales & Marketing Manager. “Yamaha’s legacy in the creation of musical instruments started 129 years ago in Hamamatsu, Japan and Yamaha has had an office in Canada since 1969. We take pride in serving Canadians with our products as we are dedicated to future growth of music in Canada through passion and performance.”

Paul Brandt is the most awarded male Canadian country artist in history. His 1996 debut RIAA certified Gold album “Calm Before the Storm” went on to sell one million albums internationally, propelled by the #1 single and wedding standard “I Do”. Stateside, his #5 and #1 charting songs “My Heart Has A History”, and “I Do” were the first to chart by a male Canadian Country artist since Hank Snow in 1974. The song “For You” (Brandt/Rosen) was selected to promote the major motion picture “We Were Soldiers”, and was performed by Johnny Cash and Dave Matthews. His 11 career albums have spawned hit singles, multiple Album of the Year awards, gold, platinum, and multi-platinum performances. As a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, 2008 Allan Waters Humanitarian Award, and numerous other national and regional humanitarian nods, Paul is committed to practically meeting the needs of the poorest of the world’s poor through his Build It Forward Foundation.

Fresh on the heels of the record-breaking “Road Trip Tour”, Paul’s most recent single “I’m An Open Road” hit #7 in Canada and features two-time reigning CCMA Female Artist of the Year Jess Moskaluke. Paul’s current recording project is a limited edition vinyl EP (“Frontier”) and Digital Bundle called “Borderlines”.

Paul lives with his wife Liz and their two children on a ranch in the foothills of Alberta’s Rocky Mountains.

David Bowie, remembered in 9 songs that sampled him

0

The incredible legacy that David Bowie left behind after he died late Sunday night is so large, it’s hard to document in a single way. His gender-fluid performances, a space-cover of “Space Oddity,” his role in the fall of the Berlin wall, his fashion statements alone would be worthy of a book or three.

But one thing that will always travel forward now that David Bowie is gone, is his music. Countless celebrities poured on about his influence yesterday, but we also can track those who directly documented his influence in quotations or sampled his music.

Of course, the video above is nowhere near a complete documentation. The estimated number of songs would run 9 pages long…

Enjoy the first minute of THE X-FILES!

0

Thirteen years after the original series run, the next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES is a thrilling, six-episode event series from creator/executive producer Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson re-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI Agents FOX MULDER and DANA SCULLY. Mitch Pileggi also returns as FBI ASST. DIR. WALTER SKINNER, Mulder and Scully’s boss, who walks a fine line between loyalty to these investigators and accountability to his superiors. This marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history. THE X-FILES debuts with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/7:00-8:00 PM PT), following the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, and continuing with its time period premiere on Monday, Jan. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). The upcoming event series will encompass a mixture of stand-alone episodes and those that further the original show’s seminal mythology. In the opening episode, Mulder and Scully take on a case of a possible alien abductee. The all-new episodes will feature appearances by guest stars, including Joel McHale (“Community”), Robbie Amell (“The Flash”), Lauren Ambrose (“Dig,” “Six Feet Under”), Annabeth Gish (“The Bridge”), Annet Mahendru (“The Americans”), Rhys Darby (“Flight of the Conchords”), Kumail Nanjiani (“Silicon Valley”) and William B. Davis, who reprises his role as “Cigarette Smoking Man.” Three of the episodes are written and directed by Chris Carter, with the remaining new episodes written and directed by original series veterans Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan and James Wong.

Drowning Pool Announce Tour Dates Supporting “Hellelujah”

0
DROWNING POOL have announced a string of headlining tour dates serving as the first wave of support for their forthcoming LP. Audiotopsy and Violent New Breed will serve as support. “We’re beyond excited to finally get out on the road in support of our new LP,” says guitarist CJ Pierce. “We know Drowning Pool fans are eager to hear new music live, they’ll definitely get that and more at these live shows!”

The band recently debuted a third new song titled “Hell To Pay,” exclusively via Revolver Magazine. “It’s about the futility of regret,” says vocalist Jasen Moreno. “It’s about the danger in second guessing yourself. It’s about battling depression. It’s about closure.”

The band released their hit single “By The Blood” last month and it continues to rise up the Active Rock Radio chart as well as SiriusXM’s Octane channel. A lyric video can be seen below.

Drowning Pool will release Hellelujah on February 5, 2016 via Entertainment One Music (eOne).

The band tapped renowned artist Brian Mercer (CHRIS CORNELL, LAMB OF GOD, HIGH ON FIRE) to design the cover art. Hellelujah will be the follow up to Resilience, released in 2013. This time the band worked with producer Jason Suecof (AUGUST BURNS RED, DEICIDE, DEATH ANGEL) at the helm.

DROWNING POOL will also be performing at the 2016 NAIRMA AWARDS taking place January 22nd at The Yost Theater in Anaheim, CA. The award show is just one of many events surrounding the annual NAMM Convention. Click here for tickets and more info.
Drowning Pool have beaten the darkness and now they celebrate life on life’s terms. The core trio of C.J. Pierce (guitar), Stevie Benton (bass) and Mike Luce (drums) mine hardship, struggle and disappointment to emerge victorious each time, crafting empowering hard rock anthems. Drowning Pool songs conjure emotions that deeply connect with those who persevere against the odds and sacrifice to survive, and their music transcends boundaries of race, class and lifestyle as well, resonating with people from all walks of life who look to music to get them through life’s challenges.

Jasen Moreno’s powerful vocals enabled him to quickly master Drowning Pool’s dense catalog when he became the band’s frontman in 2012. From his reverent delivery of the late Dave Williams mosh-pit ready lyrics in the ubiquitous signature hit “Bodies” to his powerful take on Top 5 Active Rock hits like “Step Up” from Desensitized (2004), “37 Stitches” from Full Circle (2007), and “Feel Like I Do” (Drowning Pool, 2010).
