John Lennon Estate Releases New Video for Remixed “Sunday Bloody Sunday” Highlighting Global Cost of War

0

The John Lennon Estate has released a powerful new video decrying the cost – both human and financial – of war, political violence, and gun deaths. The video is for a newly remixed and re-imagined version of John Lennon & Yoko Ono’s 1972 protest anthem, “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” written about Bloody Sunday, the January 30, 1972, massacre of 13 unarmed protesters, including six children, by British soldiers during a protest march in Derry, Northern Ireland. The tragedy also famously inspired U2’s classic 1983 song of the same name.

Directed by Simon Hilton and David Frearson (with graphics and guerilla street art animation by Frearson) and produced by Sean Ono Lennon, Delphine Lamandé-Frearson, Sophie Hilton, Faye Jordan and Grace Davyd, the captivating video illustrates, through a kinetic text narrative and statistics, of how many civilians and soldier’s lives have been tragically lost from violent conflicts around the world, and the perpetually escalating financial costs incurred – including The Troubles in Ireland, the Vietnam War, the Iran-Iraq War, Lebanon, Tiananmen Square, the Lockerbie bombing, the Bosnian War, the Rwanda and Darfur genocides, the Chechen Wars, 9/11, the Iraq War, Syria, the Ukraine War, the War in Gaza and from mass shootings in the United States of America. It poignantly ends with the reminder that more than 1.5 million people have been killed by guns in the U.S.A. since John Lennon was shot and killed on December 8, 1980. He would have been 85 on October 9th.

“Sunday Bloody Sunday” was released by John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band with Elephant’s Memory on their 1972 political blockbuster album, Sometime In New York City, which was created as an audio newspaper in which they wrote songs ripped straight from the headlines and about the injustices they were witnessing. The song has been completely remixed from the original analog tapes and is now presented in an extended form and stripped of the overly heavy production sound that previously constrained the blistering excoriation of political violence.

“Sunday Bloody Sunday” is featured on the new box set, Power to the People, a 12-disc collection that chronicles and celebrates John & Yoko’s non-violent political activism in NYC in the early ‘70s. Songs from Sometime In New York City have been reordered, rejuvenated and completely reimagined as a new set of Ultimate Mixes, entitled New York City.

Power to the People was produced by Sean Ono Lennon and his five-time Grammy Award-winning production team. The centerpiece of the collection is the One To One Concert that took place on August 30, 1972, at Madison Square Garden in NYC, featuring John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band with Elephant’s Memory and special guests. These two performances were John’s only full-length concerts after leaving The Beatles. The exhaustive 123-track box set features 90 never-before-heard and previously unreleased tracks, including a wealth of unreleased demos, home recordings, jam sessions, live cuts, unique mixes, and much more. All tracks have been completely remixed and re-engineered from the original analog tapes by Paul Hicks and Sam Gannon, using brand new HD multitrack transfers by Rob Stevens, with the mixes mastered by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios. The set was overseen by compilation producer Simon Hilton.

The set offers an aural time capsule of John and Yoko’s first NYC era, when they traded Tittenhurst Park, their estate in Ascot, England, for a small apartment located at 105 Bank St. in Greenwich Village in Manhattan, and includes the music they were inspired to make during a time of great civil unrest and the deeply unpopular Vietnam War. “Sunday Bloody Sunday” is a critical reminder of the need for peace – to save lives, save money and strive towards a brighter future for all.

Dolly Parton Postpones ‘Dolly: Live in Las Vegas’ Concerts to Fall 2026 Amid Health Procedures

0

Dolly Parton has postponed her upcoming Las Vegas concerts to fall 2026. Dolly: Live in Las Vegas was to feature six performances from December 4 to 13 during the National Finals Rodeo, but due to recent health setbacks, the global superstar has pushed the dates to September 2026.

“I want the fans and public to hear directly from me that, unfortunately, I will need to postpone my upcoming Las Vegas concerts,” she says. “As many of you know, I have been dealing with some health challenges, and my doctors tell me that I must have a few procedures. As I joked with them, it must be time for my 100,000-mile check-up, although it’s not the usual trip to see my plastic surgeon! In all seriousness, given this, I am not going to be able to rehearse and put together the show that I want you to see, and the show that you deserve to see. You pay good money to see me perform, and I want to be at my best for you. While I’ll still be able to work on all of my projects from here in Nashville, I just need a little time to get show ready, as they say. And don’t worry about me quittin’ the business because God hasn’t said anything about stopping yet. But, I believe He is telling me to slow down right now so l can be ready for more big adventures with all of you. I love you and thank you for understanding.”

The announcement follows a prior event she missed at Dollywood, which she explained was due to a kidney stone that caused an infection.

Dolly: Live In Las Vegas is a hit-driven concert event bringing Parton back to Vegas for her first extended run in 33 years. Weaving together seven decades of classic hits and fan favorites, including “9 to 5,” “Jolene,” “I Will Always Love You,” “Coat Of Many Colors,” and many more, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see one of the world’s most beloved entertainers at the peak of her success.

Parton can be heard on a new version of Mötley Crüe’s “Home Sweet Home,” released digitally last week. Bringing together two giants of American music, the new rendition of “Home Sweet Home” featuring Dolly Parton offers a powerful twist on the 1985 hit. To drive home the song’s positive message of hope, a portion of the proceeds from the single will benefit Covenant House, an organization close to the hearts of the members of Mötley Crüe. Covenant House provides safe shelter, meals, hope and more to help youth experiencing homelessness.

Bay Area Experimental Rock Quartet Pateka Release Dreamlike Self-Titled Debut Album

0

Today, experimental rock quartet, Pateka, releases their self-titled debut album, “Pateka,” a nine-track LP that blends jazz, rock-psychedelia and neo-soul experimentation with themes of friendship, grief and the esoteric.

Featuring a unique blend of synthesized sounds, samples, off-kilter grooves, and expansive jazz harmonies, the album represents a culmination of years of collaboration between Elihu Knowles (keys/vocals), Dylan Ransley (guitar), Quinn Girard (bass), Ryan Higley (drums), and Hayden Dekker (saxophone, flute, synthesizer*) lifelong friends who grew up making music, films and skate videos together in the East Bay.

Listening to “Pateka” feels like wandering through a dreamscape of the Bay Area’s avant-garde spirit. Neo-soul warmth and experimental rock collide in tracks that nod to PalmSweet TripHiatus Kaiyote, and Standing on the Corner, while remaining wholly its own.

Living and working side by side in Richmond, CA, the band meticulously shaped the LP over months of revisions, balancing technical precision with their authentic, personal experiences. Throughout the album, snippets of real dialogue, layered samples, and shifting rhythms capture the humor, chaos, and intimacy of shared creative life, while also referencing important places and traditions from the band’s shared adolescence.

‘Teni’ came from when we were all working at this Burmese restaurant together. The song plays with the duality of the fast-paced jazz we’d play in the dining room when it was super busy, juxtaposed with whatever was on the radio in the kitchen. Walking between those two zones on a busy day always feels super disorienting, and we wanted to write something that captured that. Most of the dialogue is real stuff we heard from coworkers and customers.”

– Elihu Knowles

The album also represents a dedication to a close friend the band lost in 2021. “Cafe Chroma” explores the personal journey of grief and acceptance, reflecting on the process of losing someone and how to move forward. “Big Red” is a sentimental interlude and tribute, with the title being his nickname. “Loss,” a jazz standard-style track written shortly after his passing, captures the immediate emotions of that time. The band reworked it into a playful, almost drunken rendition, evoking the feeling of lamenting a lost friend.

Though the album isn’t centered on grief, it’s impossible to ignore the impact of their friend’s passing on the band. For Knowles and bassist Quinn Girard, it was the turning point that brought them home after living abroad, and, in many ways, the catalyst for the band’s reformation.

In addition to the album, Pateka is releasing a series of increasingly bizarre music videos, centered around a mysterious chrome theme. The video for “Cafe Chroma” (out now) takes viewers on a surreal journey with a strange character wandering through the world, stealing objects and spray painting them chrome in his lair.

The video for “Night Stairs” dives deeper, following the protagonist as he’s visited by godlike chrome beings and spirals into a hallucinatory nightmare. It’s the kind of mind-bending, otherworldly experience that only Pateka could create.

The “Odwalla” video (coming soon) completes the narrative. The band has yet to reveal all the details, but expect more chrome, more fire, and the continuation of the unsettling desert journey that has come to define the visual world of the album.

Adding another layer of intrigue, the band’s website released as a fully interactive video game where users can explore Pateka’s surreal desert world in first-person. The game invites players to uncover hidden Easter eggs in an unsettling, dreamlike landscape, inviting fans further into their immersive world.

A four-piece experimental rock group from the San Francisco Bay Area, Pateka’s genre-bending songwriting style draws on the close-knit bond of childhood friends Elihu Knowles (keyboards/vocals), Dylan Ransley (guitar), Quinn Girard (bass) and Ryan Higley (drums). The band, which is based in Richmond, CA, creates a unique blend of synthesized sounds, samples, off-kilter grooves, and expansive, jazz-influenced harmonies. Pateka’s sound has been compared to a variety of artists, including Palm, Badbadnotgood, Sweet Trip, Mid Air Thief, Jon Bap, Sun Ra, Pulgas, Os Mutantes and Standing on the Corner.

Prior to forming Pateka, frontman Elihu Knowles released music under the name Aaron Space & his Terrestrial Underlings, including the full-length album, “Fishland,” and EP, “Grid,” with the respected independent label Moon Glyph in 2020. That project helped shape the eclectic, expansive sound he brings into this new chapter, where improvisation, storytelling and sonic experimentation coexist.

Explosive Tech-Metal Force Djentrified Unleashes Fierce New Single “Harbinger”

0

Southern California’s Djentrified, the one-man project of Cousteau Bix Christopher, has recently released their latest single, “Harbinger.” Built on technical ferocity and sharpened conviction, the track cements Djentrified’s position as one of heavy music’s most uncompromising new forces. At a time when most metal bands claim to be fearless, Djentrified puts their money where their mouth is and doesn’t back down from calling out the uncomfortable truths and bringing the listener face to face with harsh realities.

Christopher’s emergence in 2025 has been fast and striking. His debut single, “THIS SONG SHOULDN’T EXIST,” was released in April as a fundraiser with all proceeds donated to Palestinian relief efforts, and it went viral almost immediately. One of the track’s first clips surpassed 500,000 views and drew more than 135,000 likes on TikTok, propelling his account from zero to 16,000 followers in just two months. He followed with “Welcome to the Abyss” in June and “Harbinger” in August, then ran a radio push that landed the song Most Added at #2 on Metal Contraband, charting their top 20 list, and #3 on NACC Heavy – a rare feat for a brand-new artist.

That momentum came to a sudden halt when TikTok banned Christopher’s account in early September, without explanation or recourse. The platform’s silence cut short a rapidly growing community of over 16,000 followers who had rallied around his work. For an independent artist using digital platforms as their lifeline, the decision underscored just how fragile visibility can be in a system where policies remain opaque and unaccountable.

Djentrified melds the polyrhythmic latticework of tech-metal (the serrated, staccato chug of “djent” pioneered by Meshuggah) and the seismic breakdowns of metalcore acts such as Polaris and After The Burial. But where many deathcore acts lean on spectacle, Djentrified finds a different register: riffs that spiral inward like gravitational collapse. Like a slow implosion, bending weight until songs land squarely in the gut.

The TikTok ban has only sharpened the urgency behind “Harbinger,” and followers quickly gathered to amass their support behind Djentrified’s freshly thrown-together second TikTok account. If the song was already written as a call against fear and resignation, the platform’s decision has turned it into lived reality: an artist refusing to be silenced, even when stripped of one of his primary platforms. Christopher channels that frustration into resolve, turning industry gatekeeping into further proof of why his message matters.

There’s no reprieve in “Harbinger.” Its closing passage swells with raw urgency, guided by Christopher’s impassioned vocal performance, less a scream into the void than a voice of resistance breaking through the noise. The track is designed as a wake-up call: open your eyes, resist fear, refuse helplessness. Every measure carries the same imperative.

With “Harbinger,” Djentrified carves out a line in the sand. It’s music that insists chaos can be sharpened into truth and intensity can be wielded as defiance. And in the wake of TikTok’s unexplained removal, it doubles as a demand for accountability in the platforms that shape music discovery today. The echoes may fade, but the warning remains.

Caicos Shares New Single “Behemoth” With Rozalina Burkova Video Ahead of EP ‘Behemoth / Chain Reaction’

0

Caicos, the moniker of indie-pop maestro Alex Frenkel (Gospels), has shared his enveloping, breezy new single “Behemoth” from his new EP/7” Behemoth / Chain Reaction, out October 24th via Very Jazzed. “Behemoth” is accompanied by a Rozalina Burkova-directed video and follows his 2023 LP Ascension Intention, which earned support from The Line of Best FitThe Big TakeoverChorus.fm, and more.

Behemoth / Chain Reaction is a new release from Caicos that brings together old friends and new collaborators from around the world to explore the psychological toll and potential restitution that can come with participating in new relationships. Mike Gordon provides his signature backbone and backbeat on the drums, and Phil Joly once again lends his sagacious mind to skillfully mix and inspiredly expand the Caicos sound.

Joining for this record on piano is Sarah Goldstone, the keyboardist, vocalist, and composer who can be seen on tour with boygenius, Lucy Dacus, and Hurray for the Riff Raff. NYC-based sonic wizard Heba Kadry takes the helm of mastering for the project.

Hellfox Unveil Haunting New Video for “Water On The Ceiling” From Album ‘The Spectrum Of Human Gravity’

0

talian all-female metal band Hellfox have unveiled the brand new official video for “Water On The Ceiling,” one of the standout tracks from their latest album The Spectrum Of Human Gravity, released last June 6th, 2025, via Rockshots Records.

A song born from the suffocating sensation of insomnia, “Water On The Ceiling” captures the eerie stillness of endless nights when eyes remain wide open as reality blurs into a waking dream. The track blends haunting melodies, distorted synths and Hellfox’s trademark dual female vocals to convey the claustrophobic feeling of staring at a ceiling that turns into water—suffocating, oppressive and inescapable.

The video adds a new visual dimension to the song’s atmosphere, portraying the emotional weight of sleeplessness and the surreal imagery that inspired the lyrics. It represents yet another chapter in the band’s journey of exploring the depths of human emotion through music and imagery.

The Spectrum Of Human Gravity has already gained recognition for its unique fusion of Nordic melodic death metal roots, pop-inspired clean vocals, and modern electronic textures. With singles like “Seaweed Braids” and “Atlas,” Hellfox set the stage for an album that confronts loneliness, mental struggles, and the search for identity without resorting to clichés. “Water On The Ceiling” continues this narrative, offering a vivid metaphor for psychological weight and restless nights.

Recorded at Eden Studio by Alessio Lucatti and mixed/mastered by Simone Mularoni at Domination Studio, the album showcases the band’s fearless approach to songwriting and their growth since their 2022 debut.

For fans of AmorphisIn Flames, and Dark Tranquillity, Hellfox’s new video is not just a performance but a visceral dive into the emotions that define The Spectrum Of Human Gravity.
