Ozzy Lives On – How Black Sabbath Made an Impact on Modern Youth

0

By Mitch Rice

Few artists have had as profound an impact on music history as Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath. Starting out in Birmingham, England, in the late 1960s, Black Sabbath shaped the heavy metal genre with their dark riffs, distorted sounds, and raw lyrics, giving the rebellious youth a new way to express themselves.

The Sound of Rebellion

Black Sabbath’s music was dark and unlike anything that came before it, especially compared to the then vastly present hippie culture, which was all about peace and love. Tony Iommi’s distorted guitars, the thunderous drumming of Bill Ward, Geezer Butler’s basslines, and Ozzy’s raw, aggressive voice became the soundtrack of resistance.

Black Sabbath’s presence today remains just as powerful, but their impact goes beyond just music. They inspired fashion trends, encouraged people to question authority and speak out against injustice, and helped young people feel a sense of belonging. After five decades of controversies, comebacks, and reinvention, their music still manages to draw in new audiences through streaming, social media, and gaming.

From Prince of Darkness to a Cultural Icon

Ozzy Osbourne was more than just a frontman. Charismatic, controversial, and larger than life, he was a true icon. He was never afraid to try new things, he went from touring with a band as well as a solo artist to being a reality TV star with his own show, The Osbournes, and even entered the world of digital entertainment and online casinos.

In 2019, Ozzy partnered with NetEnt to create his very own online slots game, which continues to enjoy phenomenal success.

The slot game kept Ozzy’s signature style, mixing his dark, gothic aesthetic with stunning visuals and, most importantly, his biggest hits. Featuring songs like Crazy Train and Bark at the Moon, the game blends music with gameplay, giving fans a fresh way to experience the Prince of Darkness.

The amount of success the slot has had since its release proves Ozzy’s influence and legacy stretch beyond the stage. It also paved the way for a large number of rock and pop legends entering the world of gaming, with NetEnt also developing Guns N’ Roses and Motorhead games.

Ozzy’s Legacy

One of the most telling signs of Black Sabbath’s influence is how their music has been passed down from one generation to the next. Artists nowadays still list Sabbath as one of their biggest influences, while genres like doom metal and stoner rock might not even exist without their timeless sounds.

While youth today might not face the same struggles as those in the 1970s, the raw energy and rebellious spirit of Black Sabbath’s music remain as relevant as ever. At its core, their music isn’t about despair – it’s about survival. It’s about facing the darkness, recognising struggle, finding strength in the chaos, and accepting who you are. This might just explain why they continue to inspire new generations.

Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath didn’t just create heavy metal, they created a cultural movement. The Prince of Darkness, described as being a true light in a sometimes very dark world, keeps connecting generations, whether on stage, on screen, or even in the world of online slots.

The music may have started 50 years ago, but the spirit lives on. For young fans today, as for their parents before them, Ozzy will never fade.

Hardy Drops Deluxe Album ‘Country! Country! Country!’ With New Song “Good Ole Boy” + Acoustic Tracks

0

Off the back of the release of his highly anticipated new album Country! Country! on Friday, Hardy unveils its deluxe edition, Country! Country! Country! The deluxe LP offers the new song “Good Ole Boy” as well as stripped-back, acoustic versions of tracks “Dog Years,” “Country In Me” and “Take the Country and Run.” The official music video for “Good Ole Boy” premieres via CMT, featured across their channels and billboards in Times Square.

The new album marks the Mississippi native’s return to his roots, written in the wake of his much-lauded rock album Quit!!, released last year. While he loved the thrash of jumping headfirst into the rock world, he missed his community: the peers he wrote No. 1 country radio hits and put together the Hixtape series with. After a step away, he felt refreshed.

Country! Country! takes its name literally, ranging from celebrations of his youth in the Mississippi mud—“Bottomland” being named for a specific camo pattern Hardy favors for hunting—to commentary on the state of country music at large. In sum, it’s a celebration of what makes Hardy Hardy.

Hardy’s first-ever headline date at Madison Square Garden momentously drew the months-long Jim Bob World Tour to a close. This run has seen him headline festivals and his own shows coast to coast with support from Koe Wetzel, Stephen Wilson Jr., McCoy Moore, and inaugural CROW RECORDS signee Sikarus.

He’ll play festivals through the end of the year, as well as a very special show, Country vs. Cancer, presented by the American Cancer Society, Hardy’s recently launched charity endeavor The Hardy Fund and Whiskey Jam, to benefit the ACS. Hardy will headline alongside Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley, Lanie Gardner and McCoy Moore at The Pinnacle in Nashville. More information here.

Cardi B’s ‘Am I The Drama?’ Debuts #1, Goes Platinum in 24 Hours, and Breaks Records Across Billboard, Apple Music & Guinness

0

In less than a week, global superstar Cardi B has already smashed records, made history, and dominated the culture with her acclaimed platinum-selling sophomore full-length offering, Am I The Drama? The album debuted at No. 1, making her the first female rapper in history to debut her first two albums at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. This marks 2025’s biggest week for an R&B/hip-hop album by a female.

She recently dropped extended versions of the album with Am I the Drama? (Bonus Edition) and Am I The Drama? (ErrTime Edition) featuring new tracks including “Don’t Do Too Much” and “ErrTime” featuring Latto. In addition, Cardi released the Bardi Gang Edition of the album exclusively on her website on Thursday, September 25th, available for purchase for that day only. This edition revisits fan-favorite songs from her catalog and includes a new track, “Dear Bardi Gang.”

This bold body of work stands out as the fastest album ever to go RIAA platinum, reaching the threshold of one million total units sold in under 24 hours. Thanks to her innovative and inventive partnership with Walmart, it even earned two Guinness World Records for Most Deliveries by UAV Drones in One Hour as the album literally landed on the doorsteps of fans, and Most Signed Album Copies Sold in Under Eight Hours. Moreover, it has broken a series of records on Apple Music, including debuting at No. 1 and holding the top spot on Apple Music & iTunes Top Albums charts for its entire first week and having three songs from the album, “Dead” featuring Summer Walker, “Magnet,” and “Safe” featuring Kehlani, hit No. 1 on the Apple Music Top Songs Chart during release week. Combined with three previous No. 1s on the same chart (“Up,” “WAP” featuring Megan Thee Stallion, and “Outside”), this brings her total to 15 No. 1s on the Apple Music Top Songs Chart, the most for any female artist in history.

The project serves as the follow-up to her history-making Grammy Award-winning six-times platinum debut album, Invasion of Privacy. Her second album notably features the likes of Cash Cobain, Janet Jackson, Kehlani, Lizzo, Megan Thee Stallion, Selena Gomez, Summer Walker, and Tyla. To accompany the release last week, she unveiled the striking music video for her track “Safe” featuring Kehlani, directed by Arrad Rahgoshay. The release marks a significant milestone in her catalog and heralds the next exciting chapter of her music.

Furthermore, Cardi B has announced her first-ever US arena tour, The Little Miss Drama Tour, which kicks off on February 11th in Palm Desert, CA. Due to high ticket demands, Cardi recently added additional shows in NY, ATL, and LA.

In the lead-up to the record, Apple Music & TikTok hosted an Album Release Live Event to celebrate the release of Am I The Drama? live-streamed with a performance from Cardi B. She also connected with fans by making a series of in-store appearances coast-to-coast in partnership with local independent record stores, Hot Topic, and Walmart, taking photos and signing CDs. Earlier this month, she hosted her Bodega Baddie pop-up on September 13th, which shut down her hometown of Washington Heights, NY, with dancing, giveaways, and an emotional moment connecting with fans ahead of her new album release. Plus, Cardi B teamed up with DoorDash to launch The Cardi Bodega, available exclusively on the platform. Fans received limited-edition signed vinyl and CDs delivered straight to their doorsteps, along with a curated lineup of her favorite sweet treats, spicy snacks, and self-care essentials.

Toby Keith Posthumously Inducted Into Cheyenne Frontier Days Hall of Fame

0

Singer, songwriter, and entertainer Toby Keith was posthumously inducted into the Cheyenne Frontier Days Hall of Fame on September 5th. Keith’s inclusion in the 2025 class of honorees reflects his deep connection to the event and all it celebrates.

Along with this year’s eight other honorees, Keith was recognized for his “lasting impact on the legacy of Cheyenne Frontier Days. Inductees represent the spirit, history, and culture of the world’s largest outdoor rodeo and western celebration. Each year, new honorees are selected for their unique contributions that have helped preserve and promote the western way of life.”

Having played Cheyenne Frontier Days nine times during his career, Keith’s fondness for it preceded his career, as his wife Tricia Covel noted in accepting his induction on his behalf. She thanked the organization for the honor, as well as the people on his team who facilitated his dream of performing at CFD, and recalled how Toby loved performing at CFD, and the cowboy life he saw there. Something easily proven since he wrote “Should’ve Been A Cowboy” in 20 minutes.

As a teenager, he was testing bulls for a rodeo stock contractor when Toby witnessed cowboy singer Chris LeDoux win the Bareback Riding World Championship. Cheyenne was every cowboy’s dream. Toby lived the dream of headlining Cheyenne Frontier Days nine times; one year, he even did two shows. So much of Keith’s life was about rodeo; while working for the stock contractor, he heard a coworker say, “Whiskey for my men and beer for my horses.” Those words inspired him to write the song ‘Beer For My Horses,’ a duet with Willie Nelson that became a No. 1 hit for six weeks.

The Hall of Fame induction punctuates a big summer for the late superstar’s music. Keith’s catalog saw streams and plays skyrocket over the summer, with his 35 Biggest Hits album climbing into the Billboard 200 Top 10. Driving many of the summer’s milestones was his July 2002 No. 1 airplay single “Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue,” which hit No. 1 for the second time in its lifespan by topping the Country Digital Song Sales chart 23 years later.

John Lennon Estate Releases New Video for Remixed “Sunday Bloody Sunday” Highlighting Global Cost of War

0

The John Lennon Estate has released a powerful new video decrying the cost – both human and financial – of war, political violence, and gun deaths. The video is for a newly remixed and re-imagined version of John Lennon & Yoko Ono’s 1972 protest anthem, “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” written about Bloody Sunday, the January 30, 1972, massacre of 13 unarmed protesters, including six children, by British soldiers during a protest march in Derry, Northern Ireland. The tragedy also famously inspired U2’s classic 1983 song of the same name.

Directed by Simon Hilton and David Frearson (with graphics and guerilla street art animation by Frearson) and produced by Sean Ono Lennon, Delphine Lamandé-Frearson, Sophie Hilton, Faye Jordan and Grace Davyd, the captivating video illustrates, through a kinetic text narrative and statistics, of how many civilians and soldier’s lives have been tragically lost from violent conflicts around the world, and the perpetually escalating financial costs incurred – including The Troubles in Ireland, the Vietnam War, the Iran-Iraq War, Lebanon, Tiananmen Square, the Lockerbie bombing, the Bosnian War, the Rwanda and Darfur genocides, the Chechen Wars, 9/11, the Iraq War, Syria, the Ukraine War, the War in Gaza and from mass shootings in the United States of America. It poignantly ends with the reminder that more than 1.5 million people have been killed by guns in the U.S.A. since John Lennon was shot and killed on December 8, 1980. He would have been 85 on October 9th.

“Sunday Bloody Sunday” was released by John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band with Elephant’s Memory on their 1972 political blockbuster album, Sometime In New York City, which was created as an audio newspaper in which they wrote songs ripped straight from the headlines and about the injustices they were witnessing. The song has been completely remixed from the original analog tapes and is now presented in an extended form and stripped of the overly heavy production sound that previously constrained the blistering excoriation of political violence.

“Sunday Bloody Sunday” is featured on the new box set, Power to the People, a 12-disc collection that chronicles and celebrates John & Yoko’s non-violent political activism in NYC in the early ‘70s. Songs from Sometime In New York City have been reordered, rejuvenated and completely reimagined as a new set of Ultimate Mixes, entitled New York City.

Power to the People was produced by Sean Ono Lennon and his five-time Grammy Award-winning production team. The centerpiece of the collection is the One To One Concert that took place on August 30, 1972, at Madison Square Garden in NYC, featuring John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band with Elephant’s Memory and special guests. These two performances were John’s only full-length concerts after leaving The Beatles. The exhaustive 123-track box set features 90 never-before-heard and previously unreleased tracks, including a wealth of unreleased demos, home recordings, jam sessions, live cuts, unique mixes, and much more. All tracks have been completely remixed and re-engineered from the original analog tapes by Paul Hicks and Sam Gannon, using brand new HD multitrack transfers by Rob Stevens, with the mixes mastered by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios. The set was overseen by compilation producer Simon Hilton.

The set offers an aural time capsule of John and Yoko’s first NYC era, when they traded Tittenhurst Park, their estate in Ascot, England, for a small apartment located at 105 Bank St. in Greenwich Village in Manhattan, and includes the music they were inspired to make during a time of great civil unrest and the deeply unpopular Vietnam War. “Sunday Bloody Sunday” is a critical reminder of the need for peace – to save lives, save money and strive towards a brighter future for all.
