René Pérez Joglar (Residente) Set for Directorial Debut ‘Porto Rico’, Benito Martínez Ocasio (Bad Bunny), Viggo Mortensen, Edward Norton & Javier Bardem Star in Epic Historical Drama Exploring Puerto Rico’s Origins

0

René Pérez Joglar (Residente) is set to make his feature directorial debut with PORTO RICO, an epic Caribbean western and historical drama led by Benito Martínez Ocasio (Bullet Train, Caught Stealing) in his first leading film role. The film also stars Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises, Captain Fantastic, Green Book), Edward Norton (American History X, Birdman, A Complete Unknown), and Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men), with additional casting to be announced.

PORTO RICO was co-written by René Pérez Joglar and Academy Award-winning screenwriter Alexander Dinelaris (Birdman), blending historical scope with a visceral, lyrical approach and a gripping narrative inspired by true events.

Pérez Joglar is a 34-time Grammy and Latin Grammy Award-winning artist, actor (In the Summers, Frank & Louis), and director, and one of the most influential voices in contemporary Puerto Rican and Latin American culture. PORTO RICO marks the realization of a lifelong dream for the multi-hyphenate creator.

“I have dreamed of making a film about my country since I was a child. Puerto Rico’s true history has always been surrounded by controversy,” said Pérez Joglar. “This film is a reaffirmation of who we are—told with the intensity and honesty that our history deserves.”

Pérez Joglar and Erick Douât produce for 1868 Studios. Norton and Bill Migliore, alongside Michael Bederman, produce for Class 5 Films. The film is backed by Live Nation Studios, Class 5 Films, and strategic partners including the Kwanza Jones & José E. Feliciano Initiative, Mike and Sukey Novogratz, and Noah Assad. Multi-Oscar-winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu executive produces alongside Scott Budnick and his 1Community banner, Mike Novogratz, Sukey Novogratz, José E. Feliciano, Kwanza Jones, Henry R. Muñoz III, and Noah Assad. UTA Independent Film Group is representing sales.

1868 Studios was launched through a multi-year joint venture between Pérez Joglar, Sony Music Latin-Iberia, and Sony Music Vision. The company develops, produces, and globally distributes original content centered on authentic, culturally driven storytelling. Committed to elevating Latin culture and bringing Latin stories to global audiences, 1868 Studios creates premium projects that highlight heritage, identity, and bold creative expression across formats.

Class 5 Films has produced features and documentaries including The Painted Veil and Motherless Brooklyn, and the Emmy-winning By the People: The Election of Barack Obama.

1Community has produced films like Just Mercy, Respect, and more recently the Emmy-and Critics Choice-nominated Nonnas, showcasing their unique blend of commercial entertainment and social impact.

About deciding to produce the project, Norton said, “This film sits in a tradition of films we deeply love, from The Godfather to Gangs of New York, that both thrill us with visceral drama and iconic characters and eras while also forcing us to face up to the shadow story under the American narrative of idealism. Everybody knows what a poet of language and rhythm René is. Now they’re going to see what a visual visionary he is as well. And bringing him and Bad Bunny together to tell the true story of Puerto Rico’s roots is going to be like a flame finding the stick of dynamite that’s been waiting for it.”

Pérez Joglar is represented by UTA and Erick Douat. Martínez Ocasio is represented by UTA and manager Noah Assad. Mortensen is represented by UTA and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman, Smelkinson & Christopher. Norton is represented by UTA and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern. 8 Track Entertainment award-winning country star Aaron Tippin is celebrating the release of his inspiring new single, “American Sky,” an uplifting, heartfelt anthem that reflects faith, freedom, and the spirit of possibility.

Commenting on the new song, Music Row Magazine’s Robert Oermann praised the track, writing, “This uptempo strut is a salute to spirit, ambition and pluck. Spread your wings and fly, as Tippin suggests.”

Written by his son, Tom Tippin, “American Sky” marks a meaningful new chapter for Tippin as he continues creating music rooted in family, tradition, and the values that have defined his career.

In the weeks surrounding the release, Tippin has been sharing the story behind “American Sky” through a series of national media appearances and interviews including Big D & Bubba, Country With Carsen, WSM AM’s Coffee, Country & Cody, Taste of Country Nights, and more.

The release also comes at an exciting moment in Tippin’s life and career. On January 23, 2026, he was inducted into the Living Legends of Aviation, joining fewer than 100 individuals to receive the prestigious recognition. Tippin earned his pilot’s license at age 14 and soloed at 16, and flying has remained a constant part of his life alongside his music career.

An accomplished singer-songwriter and performer, Aaron Tippin has earned six gold albums and one platinum, releasing more than 30 singles over his career. His chart-topping hits include “You’ve Got to Stand for Something,” “My Blue Angel,” “I Wouldn’t Have It Any Other Way,” “Kiss This,” “Workin’ Man’s Ph.D.,” “There Ain’t Nothin’ Wrong with the Radio,” and “Where the Stars and Stripes and the Eagle Fly,” which reached the Top 20 on Billboard’s Hot 100 all-genre chart.

Though music brought him national fame, aviation has always remained at the core of Tippin’s life. He is a commercial pilot with single- and multi-engine ratings, a helicopter pilot, a certified flight instructor, and a licensed aircraft mechanic. He previously operated his own aviation school.

Beyond music and aviation, Tippin is a successful entrepreneur. He and his wife, Thea, have partnered with Stonehaus Winery, developing top-selling wines including Aaron Tippin’s Blue Angel Blueberry Wine and the recently released Ready to Rock Riesling.

Jazz Visionary Immanuel Wilkins Captures Fire On ‘Live At The Village Vanguard’

0

GRAMMY-nominated alto saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins has announced his first-ever live album, Immanuel Wilkins Quartet: Live At The Village Vanguard, a searing 3-volume document of his acclaimed quartet in action at the hallowed NYC jazz shrine. Vol. 1 will be released March 20 on LP, CD, and digital formats followed by digital release of Vol. 2 on April 17 and Vol. 3 on May 15.

The album captures Wilkins’ quartet featuring Micah Thomas on piano, Ryoma Takenaga on bass, and Kweku Sumbry on drums taking flight on expansive explorations of Wilkins originals in a room steeped in jazz lore, adding his name to a list of jazz greats who have made seminal live recordings within these same walls. The album is introduced today with the quartet’s stirring performance of Alice Coltrane’s devotional composition “CHARANAM” from her 1981 recording Turiya Sings.

As Tina M. Campt writes in the album’s liner notes, the Village Vanguard “makes you feel the presence of so many performances that are still very much alive in the room. It is precisely this ambitious sono-spatial experiment that Wilkins takes on in this album: channeling the essence of a location that has witnessed numerous legendary performances. From John Coltrane to Sonny Rollins, Bill Evans to Elvin Jones, Dizzy Gillespie to Dexter Gordon (to name just a few), the Village Vanguard is a place where the sonic history of jazz dwells in the walls, floorboards, and ceiling. It is a venue many describe as holding cumulative layers of musical genius from decades of jazz performances.

Live at the Village Vanguard is a bold endeavor to summon the Vanguard’s sonic history and make it audible,” continues Campt. “It harnesses this legacy and reactivates it as what he defines as practice – a practice of improvisational sounding, congregational listening, and devotional ritual.”

The track listing for Immanuel Wilkins Quartet: Live At The Village Vanguard is as follows:

Vol. 1

1. “WARRIORS”

mgk Launches “starman” Video As “lost americana” Tour Rolls On

0

Today, GRAMMY-nominated recording artist mgk releases the official music video for “starman,” an anthemic standout from his blockbuster 2025 album lost americana. The visual directed by Sam Cahill incorporates the massive Statue of Liberty stage set from his ongoing, arena-conquering lost americana tour, as well as footage from the live show.

A fan-favorite both on record and on tour, “starman” captures mgk’s own relatable struggles with fear and escapism by recasting the iconic chorus of Third Eye Blind’s 1997 alternative hit “Semi-Charmed Life” in a modern context. Written, produced, and performed alongside Travis Barker (who drums on the song) and other longtime mgk collaborators and friends SlimXX, BazeXX, Nick Long, and No Love For The Middle Child, the song swirls together new wave glow, pop-punk speed, and explosive rock energy to become an undeniable sing-along. After a brief winter break, the lost americana tour picked back up again over the weekend in Europe and is set to return stateside on May 15 in Wheatland, CA, before wrapping on July 1 in Ridgefield, WA. Tickets and information can be found HERE.

The “starman” video follows the January release of “times of my life,” a sobering look back at lost love recorded with the lost americana crew but dating back to a draft composed during the Tickets to My Downfall sessions. Ahead of the tour, mgk released the Tickets to My Downfall (All Access) anniversary edition, featuring five unreleased cuts. Executive produced by Barker, the additional tracks are a true extension of the groundbreaking LP, offering fans a glimpse into the creative vault and showcasing the same irreverent spirit that fueled mgk’s career evolution.

Upon release, lost americana landed in the Billboard 200 Top 5 and became mgk’s third consecutive No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart. In late November, he teamed up with Jonas Brothers for a fizzy, swoon-worthy remix of the LP’s inescapable hit “cliché.” An enduring cornerstone of lost americana, the song inspired an iconic music video also directed by Cahill complete with choreography by Sean Bankhead (Usher, Tate McRae), as well as the candid, piano-powered rendition, “cliché (sad version).” mgk has recently been revealing sharply designed lyric videos for lost americana’s songs on his Youtube channel.

NAV Links With Atlanta Icon Young Thug On “Trimski”

0

NAV and Young Thug reconnect for the first time in over five years on “Trimski.” Produced by Ty Gotem, Elementry, Rel with additional production from Rodrigo Barahona and co-written by Frost the track continues a creative partnership that dates back to the Perfect Timing era, when Thug was one of the first major artists to cosign NAV. Since then they’ve linked on many records including “Boy Back,” “Spend It,” “No Debate” and most recently “Reprecussions” from NAV’s 2020 album Emergency Tsunami. Inspired by Atlanta slang and culture, “Trimski” is Nav’s take on the word “trim” and also nods to Toronto slang, which often adds -ski to the end of various phrases. It can be defined as to be exceptionally well put together, exhibiting an excessive degree of trimness, often acknowledged by peers as “overly trim.”

NAV has been one of the most successful artists of the past decade. After becoming the first official signee to XO in 2016, he’s built a catalog that now includes multiple No. 1 debuts, over 11 billion global streams, 11 million RIAA-certified units, four RIAA Gold albums, and a run of platinum and multi-platinum singles. His 2022 album Demons Protected By Angels debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop and Rap charts, marking his third No. 1 album and fifth consecutive Top 10 in the U.S., while Bad Habits and Good Intentions both debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Most recently, OMW2 Rexdale marked a return to his roots and expanded his global footprint with shows across Tokyo, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangkok and Riyadh, as he builds toward his next project.

Yungblud Brings British Rock Fire To ‘Idols II’ With “Suburban Requiem”

0

Britain’s biggest Rock star and GRAMMY Award-winner, Yungblud, has officially announced the long-awaited second installment of his formidable concept album, Idols. The album is set for digital release on 20th February 2026 via Island Records/Locomotion and features six new songs alongside the Yungblud and The Smashing Pumpkins version of the Grammy Award-nominated track, ‘Zombie’.

Following the immense success of the album’s predecessor, the 28-year-old has also revealed the title of the record’s lead single, ‘Suburban Requiem’.

Speaking on the evolution of the project, Yungblud shared:

“This is it. The second chapter of the Idols story. Part 1 was a journey that helped me reclaim my identity from the darkest position I’ve ever been in my life. Part 2 is about realising that I am alive, that I am real, that this journey that I’ve been on didn’t kill me. It’s about realising that you can feel invincible when you actually feel yourself. It’s about comprehending that my heart is beating and that my lungs are filling up with air.”

Alongside the album’s digital release, available for pre-order and releasing later this year, the physical collection includes a Yungblud store-exclusive ‘Idols (Complete)’ 180g 2LP audiophile vinyl and CD, both featuring all 19 tracks from ‘Idols’ and ‘Idols II’, as well as a silver transparent ‘Idols II’ vinyl with new cover artwork.

The album’s forebear, Idols, arrived in June 2025, securing Yungblud’s third consecutive UK Number One album. It received critical acclaim from across the press:

This announcement follows a historic run for the Yorkshire-born artist. In November 2025, Yungblud secured his fourth UK Number One album, and his second of the year, with One More Time, a collaboration with Aerosmith. The release marked Aerosmith’s first-ever UK Number One album.

Earlier this month, Yungblud’s global impact was recognised at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles where he was awarded ‘Best Rock Performance’ for his stunning rendition of ‘Changes’ at Villa Park for Black Sabbath’s Back to the Beginning concert, alongside Nuno Bettencourt, Frank Bello, Adam Wakeman and II.

With three nominations (Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Album) he has become the first British artist in history to earn three nominations in the rock categories in a single year.

Fans won’t have to wait long to hear the new material live. In April, Yungblud begins his sold-out UK arena tour, culminating in a massive headline show at The O2 Arena, London on 24 April 2026.

Belfast Post-Punk Duo CHALK Ignite With “Tongue” Ahead Of ‘Crystalpunk’

0

Belfast post-punk and electronic duo CHALK return with ferocious new single “Tongue,” out February 13, the final preview of their debut album ‘Crystalpunk,’ arriving March 13 via ALTER Music. Rooted in the experience of growing up in the North of Ireland, the record captures national identity, tension and youth through industrial dance-punk energy.

Produced by Chris Ryan alongside Ross Cullen, mixed by Scott Desmarais and mastered by Chris Gehringer, “Tongue” pulses with unease and momentum. Cullen explains, “For the demo, I sang the opening few lines of the song on my earphones microphone and that take made it to the final version. I had to whisper because my girlfriend was sleeping beside me. There was something ominous about the track and felt like it would be the beginning of something.”

Spearheaded by Cullen and Benedict Goddard, CHALK have already shared singles “Pain,” “Can’t Feel It” and “I.D.C.” to strong support across BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music and KEXP.
