The Darkness Mark 20 Years of Glam Rock Mayhem with ‘One Way Ticket to Hell…and Back’ Anniversary Box Set

0

The Darkness celebrate the 20th anniversary of their gold selling second album ‘One Way Ticket to Hell…and Back’ with a 4CD set of the original album, b-sides, remixes, singles and never before released live at NEC, Birmingham which has been newly mixed by Dan Hawkins. The original album will also be available on hell fire coloured vinyl and single CD formats.

All formats are available to pre-order now from here.

Originally released in November 2005 and came off the back of the bands muti-platinum selling debut ‘Permission To Land’ (2003) that had catapulted the band to stratigraphic levels, simultaneously forcing rock back into the mainstream consciousness.

Having toured relentlessly since the release of their debut, ‘One Way Ticket to Hell…and Back’ was one of the most anticipated albums of 2005. Written by Justin and Dan Hawkins, it was produced by Roy Thomas Baker (Queen, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie) and it was well received – Alternative Press rating it 5/5, Q magazine and The Guardian both gave it 4/5, with the former including it in its Albums Of The Year list. Upon release the album went on to chart well through Europe and beyond and has been certified gold in the UK alone.

Dan Hawkins, “It’s wonderful to let the light shine once again on this album – the jewels in the crown of this release are undoubtedly the live performance from a sold out show at the Birmingham NEC and the original demos that we thought were lost forever! Between those and a revamped and refreshed original album (including vinyl) this is a must have for TD fans everywhere. It’s also great to remember Roy Thomas Baker (RIP) whom we are eternally grateful to have met and worked with in this completely fraught and gloriously bonkers album project! “

Shortly after the release of the album the band had a hiatus concentrating on other musical projects and themselves. In the short period of the bands public life (2003 to 2006, they formed in 2000) they were like nothing else in music, wearing their influence on their sleeve whilst giving it their own stamp! A generation of music fans wouldn’t have heard anything like it – they gave rock music the wake up call it needed! The enduring love for their music shone through when they reunited five years later in 2011 and continue to write and play music together to this day.

Rhino Celebrates 40 Years of New Wave Classic with ‘Heartbeat City (Deluxe Edition)’ by The Cars

0

Rhino celebrates the 40th anniversary of The Cars’ best-selling album on October 31 with Heartbeat City (Deluxe Edition).

The 4CD/1LP set includes the original quadruple-platinum album on both CD and LP. The remainder revisits the making of the album with unreleased studio recordings and early mixes, plus a complete 1984 concert from the band’s Heartbeat City tour. It’s accompanied by a color booklet filled with photos, new track-by-track notes by keyboardist Greg Hawkes, and an essay from drummer David Robinson, who designed all of the band’s album covers, including the sleeve for Heartbeat City. Pre-order here.

Heartbeat City (Deluxe Edition) highlights the album sessions with a demo for the Top 10 hit “Drive,” along with unreleased recordings of tracks like “Stranger Eyes” and “Jacki” (later renamed “Heartbeat City”). The set also includes multiple versions of “Shooting For You,” an outtake from the 1980s Panorama that was revived during the making of Heartbeat City.

The set also features a complete concert recorded at The Summit in Houston on September 11, 1984. Originally released on VHS and Laserdisc as The Cars – Live 1984-1985, the performance appears on CD for the first time here, expanded to include previously unreleased versions of “Candy-O” and “My Best Friend’s Girl.” The band opened the show with “Hello Again” and packed 17 songs into a 70-minute set that featured half the new album, including “You Might Think” and “Magic,” alongside earlier hits like “Good Times Roll” and “Let’s Go.”

In the liners, Hawkes recalls Ric Ocasek’s demo for “Drive” started out like a “spooky bossa nova with him sounding a little like Elvis.” By the time the band arrived in London to record, the song had evolved with Benjamin Orr taking over lead vocals. To conjure the track’s ethereal sound, Hawkes says the group spent days layering backing vocals while producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange urged, “Breathier, man, breathier!”

Robinson contributes his own essay, recalling a London gallery visit during the sessions where he discovered Art-O-Matic Loop di Loop, a painting by artist Peter Phillips that became the album’s cover. “I felt that the painting was a bold, bright, pop art counterpart to the sound of our new album. It even had a Vargas pin-up and a muscle car. Art-O-Matic Loop di Loop was just like something Ric would have made up.”

Released in March 1984, Heartbeat City was an instant hit, charting worldwide and peaking at #3 in the U.S., where it’s certified 4x platinum. The Cars’ biggest success, the album generated six singles over nearly two years, including “Magic,” “Hello Again,” and “Why Can’t I Have You.” The group secured its place in the MTV era when “You Might Think” won the network’s first Video of the Year award.

5 Seconds of Summer Ignite Pop-Rock Comeback with New Single “Not OK” from Upcoming Album ‘Everyone’s A Star!’

0

5 Seconds of Summer returns with their first new single in three years, “Not Okay,” marking the group’s first release since 2022, and debut under their newly minted deal with Republic Records.

The quartet of frontman Luke Hemmings, guitarist Michael Clifford, bassist Calum Hood, and drummer Ashton Irwin has boldly elevated their sound to another stratosphere with “Not OK.” Nodding to everyone from The Prodigy to N.E.R.D., the track’s bright, hyper-charged beat could just as easily ignite the dance floor of an underground rave as it could shake festival grounds anywhere in the world. Across the song, anxious cymbals accent a buoyant bassline, and a hummable guitar solo rings out as Luke carries an emotionally complicated and undeniably catchy chorus, “Hey, I’m not okay! I like the darker side of me, that part of me comes out to play when I’m with you, bite the apple, baby.” It has all the makings of a live staple from the group as well.

“It has the older 5 Seconds of Summer energy, but it’s different—which is the whole M.O. of this chapter. Lyrically, it’s about letting out the darker side of yourself and embracing it. The song is also a nod to the band itself. We pull those sides out of each other,” Hemmings shares.

The song heralds the arrival of the band’s sixth full-length album, Everyone’s A Star!, available on November 14th. The guys carefully assembled the record throughout 2024 and 2025, working in Los Angeles and Nashville with super pop producer Jason Evigan.

5 Seconds of Summer dropped their most recent album, 5SOS5, in 2022. It notably bowed at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the Billboard Hot 100 hit “Complete Mess.”

Two Bridge Launches Future Friends, a National Mental Wellness & Music Initiative, with Two Live Alex Warren Events

0

Two Bridge today announced the launch of Future Friends, a new national initiative merging live music, mental wellness programming, and community action on college campuses. Created by Harris and Sabrina Schwartzberg, founders of Two Bridge, and Corey McGuire, who previously founded Winston House, a music brand focused on community and intimate music experiences, Future Friends builds on a shared mission to foster connection and conversation through culture.

Future Friends will debut with a series of music-based college campus events, kicking off with Alex Warren on select campuses. The events will bring together powerful mental wellness resources with emerging and established artists, featuring live performances, student-led activations, and guided conversations designed to foster community and inspire meaningful dialogue about mental wellness.

Alex Warren’s current “Cheaper Than Therapy Tour,” is being celebrated for its emotional honesty and deep connection with young audiences, perfectly reflects the program’s mission to spark authentic conversations about mental wellness on campus.

“Future Friends is about creating human connection through music,” said Harris Schwartzberg, Co-Founder of Two Bridge. “By pairing meaningful and authentic live music experiences with tools like Psychological First Aid training and curated wellness resources, we’re showing people they’re not alone. And that community can be a powerful part of healing.”

Two Bridge is not new to the world of healthcare and wellness. After 30 years of leadership in healthcare services, the company was founded to leverage music and dialogue to foster connections around mental wellness. Two Bridge collaborations have included Logic, Noah Kahan, Glenn Close, Chelsea Clinton, Chelsea Cutler, Dr. Jim Yong Kim, Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, Aaron Lazar, and other celebrated artists and advocates.

Two Bridge has recently completed the first two episodes of Common Denominator, a new series that combines art, music, and authentic dialogue about mental wellness. Hosted by CBS News’ Maurice DuBois and co-starring artist Peter Tunney, the first two guests were Broadway star Gavin Creel and recording artist Noah Kahan.

“At the heart of this is a simple truth: we all know and love someone impacted by mental health issues. Future Friends began as a shared mission between a father and daughter to provide tools to young people to ensure others never have to go through what our family has,” said Sabrina Schwartzberg, Co-Founder of Future Friends.

The inaugural Future Friends events are scheduled for October and November 2025, with additiional events in 2026.

One of two songs written alongside and featuring acclaimed artist Bon Iver, “Moon” joins his previously released singles “Have A Baby (With Me)” and “Call On Me,” where, in contrast to the latter’s upbeat tempo, the single sees the singer-songwriter expertly create an intimate yet celestial soundscape.

Florence + the Machine Channel Gothic Indie-Rock on New Single “One Of The Greats” from Forthcoming Album ‘Everybody Scream’

0

Florence + the Machine unveil a new song, “One Of The Greats,” today from Florence Welch’s forthcoming sixth album, Everybody Scream. Listen here. The new album is set for release on 31st October, preorder it here

Florence notes:

I don’t really know how to explain myself with this one, it was sort of a long poem about the cost of greatness. Who gets to decide what that is? Why do I even want it? Why am I never satisfied?

I feel like I die a little bit every time I make a record, and kind of literally nearly died on the last tour. Yet I always dig myself up to try again, always trying to please that one person who doesn’t like it, or finally feel like I made something perfect and I can rest.

Early in my career, I was consistently ridiculed and derided for the bigness of my expression. I was thrust into the spotlight but also told again and again I didn’t deserve it, or that because it wasn’t to their taste it wasn’t good. So maybe this is a 15-year outpouring of frustration. But also, a lot of the lines I just left in because I thought they were funny.

Me and Bowen from IDLES wrote it in one take. He played the guitar and I just sang it straight from the page. We meant to re-record it but the first take just had this amazing energy.

Then Aaron Dessner helped us take it to a truly transcendent place. I wanted it to feel like you were disintegrating into nothing at the end. Which is sometimes what the creative process feels to me. Death and resurrection over and over.

“One Of The Greats” follows the album’s title track, released last month with a video directed by Autumn de Wilde to rapturous praise. The New York Times declared Welch “Pop’s glorious enchantress” while Stereogum called the song “a grand, gothic, synth-powered anthem with the kind of chorus a whole arena could easily pick up on.”

Florence wrote and produced Everybody Scream with a close-knit circle of collaborators including Mark Bowen of IDLES—who appears in the video for “Everybody Scream,” Aaron Dessner and Mitski

After needing lifesaving surgery on the Dance Fever tour, Florence’s recovery took her down the path of spiritual mysticism, witchcraft and folk horror as she felt the limits of her body and explored what it means to be “healed.” The album treads through womanhood, partnership, aging and dying; exposing the murky in the mundane.

Across five albums—2009’s Lungs, 2011’s Ceremonials, 2015’s How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, 2018’s High As Hope and 2022’s Dance Fever—Florence has become one of the most monumental artists of a generation, with multiple U.S. and U.K. #1 albums and countless awards. Known for her earth-shattering live show and singular, iconic voice, Florence has sold out shows and headlined festivals the entire world over. She has collaborated and shared stages with icons—The Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift among them—and published a book of lyrics, poetry and drawings, Useless Magic
