Howard Jones Celebrates 40 Years of ‘Dream Into Action’ with Global Tour Featuring Haircut 100 and Richard Blade

0

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of his groundbreaking album, DREAM INTO ACTION, new wave icon Howard Jones will soon embark on a global tour. The tour kicks off in the United States in September and will feature support from alternative pop favorites, Haircut 100 with SiriusXM First Wave DJ Richard Blade opening the show with his world-renowned DJ set (line-up for the United States only). The United States tour dates kick off at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Tuesday, September 2nd.

Of the new tour dates, Howard Jones commented, “Thrilled to be touring with my good friends Haircut 100 and Richard Blade once again for this celebratory anniversary of DREAM INTO ACTION, the shows are gonna be rocking, can’t wait to see you there”. Haircut 100 frontman Nick Heyward stated, “Haircut 100 are massive Howard Jones fans and we’re looking forward to touring the US with him again in September. Like us, he has the loveliest fans and we can’t wait to see you all again.” Richard Blade added, “I’m so excited to be going back out on tour with Howard Jones. Being on the road with him in February and having the privilege to watch his amazing performances every night was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, now it’s going to be twice in a lifetime!! And to have Haircut 100 and my dear friend Nick Heyward joining us will make it an absolutely unmissable concert experience. I can’t wait to see you at the shows – they’re going to be great.”

Howard Jones’ groundbreaking 1985 album, DREAM INTO ACTION, peaked at #2 in the UK charts and cracked the US Top 10. It went on to spawn global hit singles, “Things Can Only Get Better” (which experienced a resurgence after being featured on an episode of Netflix’s Stranger Things) and “No One is to Blame” as well as “Life in One Day” and “Like to Get to Know You Well”.

1985 was also the year Jones performed at Live Aid, Wembley Stadium, alongside such legendary acts as David Bowie, Paul McCartney, and Phil Collins. Earlier that same year in February, Jones performed live, keytar in hand, at the Grammy Awards from L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium with Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock and Thomas Dolby as part of the “Synthesizer Showdown,” performing a medley of their hits.

Electronic music pioneer Howard Jones has been a constant presence on the international touring scene for the past four decades, playing live in a number of different configurations including intimate solo shows and dates with his full high-tech band set-up. He first burst upon the contemporary music scene in 1983, with his very English songwriting and pioneering synthesizers with “New Song”. His first two albums HUMAN’S LIB and DREAM INTO ACTION were worldwide hits. HUMAN’S LIB reached #1 in 1984 in the UK and featured the hits “New Song,” and “What Is Love?” In 1985, Jones released the follow-up, DREAM INTO ACTION, which quickly became a Top Ten Platinum album in the United States and featured the smashes: “Things Can Only Get Better,” “Life In One Day,” “No One Is To Blame,” and “Like To Get To Know You Well.”

Howard Jones has sold upwards of 10 million albums worldwide and continues to make new music and tour the world. Jones has performed on NBC’s top-rated morning and nighttime shows respectively, Today and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. His ubiquitous hits can be heard in such high-profile television series and films such as “Stranger Things,” “Breaking Bad,” “Watchmen,” “The Carrie Diaries”, “Superstore” and “Bumblebee”. Howard Jones’ most recent studio album is DIALOGUE, which was released in September, 2022. DIALOGUE is the third album in a trilogy of electronic releases from Jones with multi-media project ENGAGE coming out in 2015 and studio album TRANSFORM out in 2019. DIALOGUE garnered serious coverage in outlets such as Spin, Stereogum and more.

Haircut 100 released PELICAN WEST in 1982 to worldwide acclaim. That cherished LP contained their trademarks “Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl),” “Love Plus One” and “Fantastic Day,” all UK top ten singles in the 1982-83 season. Soon they added a fourth, “Nobody’s Fool,” by which time, PELICAN WEST was already platinum certified in the UK, only three months after release. The album spent 11 consecutive weeks in the British top ten and twice reached No. 2. It also charted in the US, Australia and beyond, after which frontman Nick Heyward left for a distinguished solo career. Heyward’s solo efforts included another top ten title, his debut solo album, NORTH OF A MIRACLE, in a collection of nine LPs in his own name to date.

Folk Icon Patty Griffin Releases New Album ‘Crown Of Roses’ Featuring First Single “Back At The Start”

0

“There’s secrets I don’t tell ever to myself/I just keep moving.” So begins “Back At The Start,” the first song released from 2x GRAMMY Award-winning artist Patty Griffin’s new full-length opus, Crown Of Roses, her 11th studio album and first in over six years. Crown Of Roses is out now, via her own PGM Recordings label via Thirty Tigers.

With its purposeful position as song one on side one, “Back At The Start” sets the rich tone for the album, embodying a rhythmic and soulful shadowy shuffle written during the pandemic, junked, and then reclaimed. The murky yet pulsating track sees Griffin probing the idea of letting go of the stories we tell ourselves.

“I came back to the song because I like that first line,” Patty Griffin says. “Part of it is about getting on with it, but part is also about staying stuck and going through the motions. It’s really a constant thing to try to be alive while you’re alive.”

Crown Of Roses sees Patty Griffin once again forming a poetic tapestry woven from the threads of love, loss, grief, disillusionment, resilience, and hope, shifting fluidly between intimate confessions, philosophical musings, and symbolic storytelling – all grounded in intensely human feelings and emotion. Burrowing into the stories she had long been telling herself, the award-winning songwriter ruminates on a vast array of themes and deeply personal topics, spanning the trajectory of women in the 20th and 21st centuries and communion with nature to the sound of her voice after cancer treatment made its mark to the relationship with her late mother, whose wedding day photo graces the album’s cover, set into artwork by Mishka Westell that captures many of her greatest loves, including the Maine woods of her – and Patty’s – childhood.

Produced by longtime collaborator Craig Ross and featuring musical contributions from her trusted band members David Pulkingham (guitar) and Michael Longoria (drums), the album drifts from spare folk to gauzy Americana to sly gospel blues over the course of eight moody new songs that evoke the scrubby west of Griffin’s adopted Texas and the calming verdancy of her home state of Maine. From the atmospheric “Born In A Cage” and the spectral “Long Time” (which includes a backing vocal cameo from Robert Plant) to the sparse, emotional authenticity of “Way Up To The Sky,” Crown of Roses is among Patty Griffin’s most profound works to date, continuing her exceptional talent for translating thorny concepts and finely wrought character studies into songs that speak as much to her own experience as they do to the lives of those who have loved her music now for more than three decades.

“If I try to hit things on the nose, they don’t feel authentic to me,” Griffin says. “If I can emotionally dance around things, it feels like I can be more honest singing it.”

Griffin will celebrate Crown of Roses by joining forces with legendary 2x GRAMMY Award-winner Rickie Lee Jones for a very special tour. Dates begin October 10 at Philadelphia, MS’s Ellis Theater and then continue through a November 1 finale at Dallas, TX’s historic Longhorn Ballroom. Tickets for all newly announced dates go on sale this Friday, June 6, at 10:00 am (local).

“Rickie Lee has been a North Star for me,” says Griffin. “Knowing how undeniably sublime she is as a songwriter and performer has kept me more grounded. I mean, with songs like hers, I’ve reminded myself over and over, women have voices that need to be heard and that have great value.”

In addition, Griffin has slated a number of headline shows over the coming months. Highlights include a special record release show at New York City’s Sony Hall (July 29) and a home state headline performance at Houston, TX’s Heights Theater (October 8).

10x Country Radio #1 Hitmaker Dustin Lynch proves it’s “Easy To Love” his latest single as it secured the most adds at country radio this week with 78 adds via Broken Bow Records. Evanescence and K.Flay Unite on Explosive New Song “Fight Like A Girl” for Ballerina Soundtrack

0

Evanescence and alt-rock visionary K.Flay have teamed up for their first-ever collaboration on the explosive new song, “Fight Like A Girl.” (BMG). The song is featured as the first end title song in Ballerina, the hotly anticipated film set in the world of John Wick. Both the song and the film are out this Friday, June 6th.

Co-written by Evanescence lead singer Amy Lee, K.Flay, Dylan Eiland, and Ballerina film composer Tyler Bates, who also produced the track, “Fight Like A Girl” follows the release of Halsey and Amy Lee’s thunderous track “Hand That Feeds,” the first original song recently revealed from the film in early May.

Fueled by fierce energy and defiance, “Fight Like A Girl” channels the film’s themes of vengeance, resilience, and female empowerment, mirroring its adrenaline-pumping intensity and emotional depth. Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, with Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves, is set to electrify audiences with its high-octane action and raw emotional stakes. Directed by Len Wiseman and written by Shay Hatten, based on characters by Derek Kolstad, the film is produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski.

“Tyler calling me up to create this song for Ballerina couldn’t have come at a more perfect time, I know I’m not the only girl out there ready to dig my heels in and show the world what we’re made of,” said Amy Lee. “I really wanted this song to be a collab, and K.Flay is one of my favorite artists. It is literally a dream come true to do this together!”

“Amy sent me the demo and I was immediately so energized, so inspired,” said K.Flay. “I was on tour at the time, and I wrote my verse backstage after a show, when my adrenaline was still super high. For me, the film and the song are both about how we channel our pain and how we choose to define ourselves. What separates the hero from the villain?”

Taking place during the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Ballerina follows Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas) who is beginning her training in the assassin traditions of the Ruska Roma.

Evanescence will kick off a run of live shows later this fall, making stops on My Chemical Romance: The Black Parade tour and Louder Than Life festival before joining Metallica on their M72 World Tour.

Post-Emo Band Hot Mulligan Release Fourth Album ‘The Sound a Body Makes When It’s Still’ on Wax Bodega

0

Post-emo rising stars Hot Mulligan’ announce their highly-anticipated ‘s fourth full-length LP, The Sound a Body Makes When It’s Still, out now via Wax Bodega.

“And a Big Load” is a bold, punk-infused rager that sets the tone for what listeners can expect from The Sound a Body Makes When It’s Still. Fueled by angst and frustration about the positions we put ourselves in, the track is a cathartic, scream-in-your-car first offering. In classic Hot Mulligan fashion, the lyrics bluntly capture the difficulty of being painfully self-aware, as the band laments, “Nothing good can come of me, I’m useless.” The accompanying music video, directed by Michael Herrick, captures the track’s perfectly chaotic energy with a high-energy skate park performance.

“It’s the consequences of your own actions. You could face them; you could avoid them entirely,” shares co-vocalist and guitarist Chris Freeman. “Our biggest conflicts and struggles are often self inflicted. Drink too much? Hangover. What did you say last night? Apologize… or don’t. You could commit suicide instead. You could commit to being sober. You could commit to drinking one million beers. At the end of the day it’ll all be left for you to deal with. It’s terrifying.”

The Sound a Body Makes When It’s Still is set to be Hot Mulligan’s most cohesive album yet. In addition to bold riffs and careful sonic nuances, it’s chock full of addressing fears, screaming unfiltered vulnerabilities, and finding solace in the fact that regardless of the uncertainty of the future, we exist in this moment. Despite the subject matter, Hot Mulligan strike a balance between sincerity and humor, and find the light moments of comfort, even when it feels impossible.

“‘The Sound a Body Makes When It’s Still’ is a lyric reference,” says co-vocalist Tade Sanville. “That lyric is in a song about paranoia, which is fear. With the album title, you can go the meditation route, or, the horror that you are in your body, and you have to exist. You have no choice, really. Even if you plan on killing yourself, right now you exist. And that is a terrifying thing.”
