Story Of The Year Unleash Vulnerable Single “Disconnected” From Upcoming Album ‘A.R.S.O.N.’ Out February 1

0

Story Of The Year has released “Disconnected,” the second single from their upcoming 8th studio album ‘A.R.S.O.N.,’ arriving everywhere February 13th, 2026 via SharpTone Records. The vulnerable, no-holds-barred track captures the frustration of wanting to get better without knowing where to start and resisting the urge to implode in loneliness. Cathartic screams, punchy guitars, and massive drums drive the song’s intensity as frontman Dan Marsala confesses, “I’m sick of being disconnected from everything I need.” The music video offers a moody, visually captivating accompaniment that captures the head-spinning feeling of being caught between the desire to heal and the feeling of falling apart. According to guitarist Ryan Phillips, “‘Disconnected’ is one of those songs that nicely encapsulates where we are creatively these days: Big, anthemic vocals & massive guitar riffs over high energy drums. When I showed Colin [Brittain] the original version of the song, he loved everything besides the main guitar riff I had at the time. One day by chance I played him a song that I had planned for a solo record. It was this long piano piece that slowly gained momentum and then finally exploded into this really heavy low tuned whammy bar riff. He stopped the song and said ‘Dude, that’s the riff we need. We have to use that as the main riff for “Disconnected.”‘ He cut it together and it worked perfectly. Sometimes that’s how it goes!”

“Disconnected” follows the first single, “Gasoline (All Rage Still Only Numb),” an explosive song about the consequences of reaching your breaking point that topped SiriusXM Octane as the #1 most-played track after release and is currently tied for the fifth most-added song on active rock charts this week. With ‘A.R.S.O.N.,’ Story of the Year push their sound forward while homing in on the raw honesty that defines them. The title, an acronym for “All Rage, Still Only Numb,” sets the tone for an album that turns their explosive energy toward themes of anxiety, emotional unrest, and the shadows we carry. Fusing sharp modern post-hardcore with polished production and echoes of their early emo identity, ‘A.R.S.O.N.’ emerges as a charged, cohesive journey through what it means to survive yourself. The band exploded onto the scene with their groundbreaking debut ‘Page Avenue,’ one of the first albums of its kind to sell over a million copies. The breakout single “Until the Day I Die” quickly became both an enduring anthem and a mission statement for the band. What began as four friends working in a St. Louis pizza joint evolved into a movement, connecting deeply with fans through every era. From ‘Page Avenue’ (2003) to ‘In the Wake of Determination’ (2005), ‘The Black Swan’ (2008), ‘The Constant’ (2010), ‘Wolves’ (2017), and ‘Tear Me to Pieces’ (2023), the band, comprised of Dan Marsala, Ryan Phillips, Josh Wills, and Adam Russell, has delivered a signature blend of melodic aggression, raw vulnerability, and anthems built to scream along to in the dark.

Melanie Baker Channels ’90s Alt-Rock Spirit On Fizzy Break-Up Single “Bored” From Debut LP

0

Melanie Baker has released “Bored,” a cheeky, guitar-driven break-up anthem turning frustration into fizzy defiance and marking the second reveal from her first full-length record ‘SOMEBODY HELP ME, I’M BEING SPONTANEOUS!’ following November lead single “Sad Clown.” The track channels Courtney Barnett’s wry vocal delivery with subtle verses exploding into wall-of-sound choruses and an exhilarating guitar solo. According to Baker, “It’s a sarcastic break-up song about the girl who got away (but left you for your best mate) so you sure as hell hope she still thinks about you anyway. I was spending a lot of time alone in my studio, learning to let go and learning to have fun again. I knew I wanted it to have a really silly Weezer-esque solo and blink-182-esque guitar riffs, I think I even pulled up a Busted song as a reference when I sent it to my bandmate, Adam. He sent it back to me the same day with all of the drums tracked and the new fun, crunchy guitar lines. I was so excited because it was so silly and unserious, which is so different from my usual songwriting (sad, angsty doom and gloom). The lyrics are meant to be kind of sarcastic and playful. I thought the line ‘I can’t think straight anymore’ was a funny double entendre for fully revelling in all of the Queer joy I was experiencing as well as totally crashing out over this weird break-up I experienced when ‘the girl of my dreams’ left me for my guy best friend.”

A wily exercise in cartoon realism, Baker’s forthcoming debut LP sees her turn to absurdist humour, highlighted by the album’s Truman Show-referencing title and the carnival chaos of its cover art. With pounding drums, fuzzy guitars, and tender lyrical precision, Baker reclaims the grit and spirit of ’90s alt-rock through a queer, modern lens. Fresh from supporting the likes of The Wytches, Maximo Park, and Heidi Curtis in recent times, as well as a Mercury Prize Fringe showcase gig in Newcastle, Baker’s phenomenal live prowess continues developing at an impressive rate. The indie specialist has gained early plaudits from The Line Of Best Fit, Dork Magazine, Rough Trade, Under The Radar, and La Blogotheque, in addition to airplay on BBC Radio 6 Music from Lauren Laverne and Craig Charles plus an in-studio interview with Steve Lamacq, and extensive BBC Introducing support both on BBC Radio 1 and from Shakk in the North East. Baker’s “Bored” is out now via Tambourhinoceros, with extensive live plans set to accompany her debut album’s arrival in the spring.

Big Big Train Unveils “Counting Stars” From Conceptual Album ‘Woodcut’ Out February 6

0

Big Big Train has released “Counting Stars,” the third and final single from their 16th studio album ‘Woodcut,’ arriving February 6th, 2026 via InsideOutMusic. The progressive rock band, whose lineup draws together members from England, Scotland, Italy, the USA, Sweden, and Norway, delivers their first ever full-length conceptual piece with ‘Woodcut,’ a continuous narrative exploring creativity, sacrifice, and the thin line between inspiration and madness. The track was co-written by lead vocalist and producer Alberto Bravin and bassist Gregory Spawton. According to Spawton, “‘Counting Stars’ finds The Artist in a reflective mood as he seeks to find solace in the natural world. He remembers a scene from his childhood when he stood on top of a hill at dusk and watched the stars sparkling into life. This experience gave him a sense of wonder at how vast and magnificent everything is. As night falls, he heads out into the countryside to count the stars once more.” The song features what Spawton calls a spellbinding vocal performance from Bravin, an outstanding guitar solo from Rikard Sjoblom, and a brief lead vocal cameo that may surprise listeners.

Formed in Bournemouth in 1990, the award-winning band has built a reputation for musical depth and storytelling qualities across their extensive catalog, making ‘Woodcut’ a landmark release that pushes their narrative ambitions further than ever before. Spawton notes the band is “hugely proud of ‘Counting Stars,'” a track that captures the reflective essence of The Artist character while showcasing the technical prowess and emotional range that have defined Big Big Train’s progressive rock sound for over three decades.

UK Rockers Revenant Release Uplifting Single “I’ll Be There” From Acclaimed ‘Black Dogs And Sad Men’ EP

0

Revenant has released “I’ll Be There,” an anthemic new single lifted from their highly acclaimed EP ‘Black Dogs and Sad Men.’ The Newbury/Basingstoke quartet, consisting of Sam Lay on vocals and guitar, Matt Hudson on guitar, Robin Nutley on bass, and Carl Donoghue on drums, describes the track as being about silver linings and the importance of looking after the people around you. According to the band, “Everyone has struggles but when we support each other, everything gets a little easier. Be sure to tell those that matter, you can be sure that whatever life throws at us I’ve got your back. It’s important to make sure the people you love know that you love them and you’re always ready to lend a hand.” The five-track EP garnered enthusiastic reviews, with Overtone giving it a 9/10 and stating they “cannot recommend this release enough,” Fabrications HQ calling the band “highly infectious,” and My Global Mind Magazine noting “They’ve got it all, big riffs, catchy hooks and melodies that make great songs.” All tracks were self-produced by the band, recorded at Studio 91 in Berkshire with mastering handled by Dave Draper, who has worked with The Wildhearts, Terrorvision, and Dodgy. The EP explores a full spectrum of emotions ranging from aggressive defiance and helpless despair to unity, compassion, decadent lust, and self-reflective acceptance.

Formed in 2023, Revenant has drawn favorable comparisons to Chris Cornell, Alter Bridge, and Black Stone Cherry while making waves on the live circuit with performances at Firevolt and Maid Of Stone, where Jace Media proclaimed them “a band in full command of their sound and audience.” Their debut EP ‘What A Time To Be Alive’ received critical acclaim in 2024, with Powerplay Magazine calling them “one of most refreshing and exciting sounds around,” while their sophomore EP ‘Best Medicine’ gained global airplay including Total Rock and BBC Introducing. Classic Rock named it a Track of The Week, praising its “classy swirl of southern dirt, pensive twists and bright 70s flair,” and Metalplanet Music called it “an absolutely excellent EP from start to finish.” January sees the band hit the road for their first UK tour as special guests to legendary USA band Preacher Stone. Seattle’s Avery Cochrane Drops Alt Pop Single “Griever” Following Viral “Shapeshifting On A Saturday Night”

0

Avery Cochrane has released “Griever,” an emotive alt pop single via S-Curve Records that arrives on the heels of her viral hit “Shapeshifting on a Saturday Night.” The Seattle-based artist describes the new track as capturing the retroactive rage and sorrow that surfaces after an unexpected encounter with someone from your past who wronged you. In her own words, “It’s everything you may have wanted to say in the moment but couldn’t find the words to until days later.” The production balances upbeat energy with emotional weight, giving the song an immediacy that connects without overstatement. Avery’s recent momentum includes “Shapeshifting on a Saturday Night” landing on Spotify’s Best of Fresh Finds Pop 2025 playlist, accumulating over 15 million TikTok views, and getting licensed by Amazon’s new BookTok-inspired series “Off Campus” for their spring launch. LadyGunn praised the track as irresistibly catchy, while her earlier single “Existential Crisis at the Tennis Club” established her as a queer artist unafraid to write boldly and directly.

Avery has performed at Bumbershoot alongside Weezer, Tennis, Janelle Monae, and Sylvan Esso, opened for AJR, and is set to perform at SXSW in March. She’s releasing a new EP in March 2026, positioning this year as a pivotal one for the emerging LGBTQ+ pop artist. Her ability to capture raw human experience while maintaining a timeless pop sensibility sets her apart, and “Griever” delivers exactly that: honest songwriting paired with cinematic sound and magnetic performance energy that translates whether you’re streaming alone or catching her live.

XG Transforms Name Meaning To “Xtraordinary Genes” As World Tour And ‘THE CORE – æ ¸’ Approach

0

XG announced a bold evolution in their identity on Japan’s Coming-of-Age Day, redefining their name from “Xtraordinary Girls” to “Xtraordinary Genes.” The seven-member group, consisting of JURIN, CHISA, HINATA, HARVEY, JURIA, MAYA, and COCONA, made the shift as all members officially enter their twenties. The new meaning reframes their identity from an external label into something innate: the core creativity, individuality, and cultural instinct that drive everything they create. In their official statement, XG explained that “Genes” represents the power and creativity within their core, along with their spirit of continuously creating new culture without being bound by conventional norms. The announcement arrives alongside the unveiling of their second world tour, “XG WORLD TOUR: THE CORE,” kicking off at K-Arena Yokohama on 6 February 2026. Following their first tour in 2024, which drew 400,000 attendees across 47 shows and culminated at Tokyo Dome with 50,000 fans, the new tour promises performances across Japan, Asia, North America, Europe, Australia, and Latin America.

XG’s first full-length album, ‘THE CORE – æ ¸,’ drops on 23 January 2026 and traces the group’s identity across genres and eras with tracks including “XIGNAL (The Intro),” “ROCK THE BOAT,” and pre-release single “4 SEASONS.” The album solidifies the new X-POP genre XG continues to define while showcasing their unflinching artistry. Their journey includes becoming the first Japanese artist to reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Trending Songs Powered by Twitter weekly chart, appearing on the cover of Billboard magazine, and making their first-ever entry on the Billboard 200 with their second mini album ‘AWE’ in November 2024. At Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April 2025, XG headlined the Sahara stage as the only Japanese artist performing, receiving high acclaim from media worldwide. The shift to “Xtraordinary Genes” captures something powerful: a return to origin, from Girls as the beginning to Genes as the source, sharpening their identity and moving forward with creative conviction.

Cormac Shares Original Pop Single “Defenceless” After Shifting From Classical Crossover Roots

0

Cormac has released “Defenceless,” a new single that represents a deliberate move toward original pop songwriting. The UK-based artist signed with Decca at age 11 in 2020 and spent years building an audience through covers and classical crossover material. Now he’s writing songs that match who he is today rather than what worked for him earlier. Co-written with Henry Maybury and producer Jon Cohen, “Defenceless” centers on the uncertainty of being a teenage boy navigating emotional openness. The production stays minimal, keeping attention on the vocal and the lyric without excessive drama. The song earned recognition as a runner-up in the Unsigned Only Songwriting Competition and reached the finals of the UK Songwriting Contest, while recent releases have gained momentum across streaming platforms, radio playlists, and coverage from Wonderland, Earmilk, and NOTION.

The shift hasn’t been without its obstacles. Algorithms still categorize Cormac based on earlier work, which means retraining systems and audiences alike. He’s building this new chapter independently from Lancashire, focused on earning his way back to venues like the London Palladium and the Royal Albert Hall with original material. This track captures something genuine: a snapshot of second-guessing yourself, trying to stay resilient, and working things out in real time.
