Kolton Moore & The Clever Few Share ‘Brave the Weather’ From Forthcoming Album ‘A Place That I Call Home,’ Out September 26

0

Kolton Moore & The Clever Few have shared their new single “Brave the Weather,” the latest preview of their upcoming sixth album A Place That I Call Home, out September 26. The introspective new song finds Moore exploring the importance of taking care of one’s mental health, especially during life’s more challenging moments.

Moore on the new song: “This song is about navigating through the hard times in life and realizing that you aren’t the only one who struggles with those hard times. ‘There’s nothing wrong with being scared of the storm, you just learn to brave the weather,’ as the song says. This is something I have to remind myself of often. No matter how tough something may seem, it’s okay to be intimidated, but if you push through it, there is always something better on the other side.”

“Brave the Weather” follows the tender “Strawberry Thief” and the anthemic “When We Were Young,” which have garnered praise from Holler, Whiskey Riff and Glide Magazine who praised the band’s “big-hearted twang and songwriting chops.” Produced by GRAMMY-winner Matt Ross-Spang (Jason Isbell, Margo Price), the Texas five-piece’s forthcoming album A Place That I Call Home finds them navigating adulthood while taking stock of hard-earned life lessons along the way. The end result is an album about redefining the meaning of home from a road-warrior band that used to play 250 shows a year when they debuted in 2012.

Made up of frontman Kolton Moore and backed by lead guitarist Ryan Wilcox, bassist Matt Gumley, keys player Sam Jones and drummer Aaron Dowd, the band strikes the right balance between Southern grit and maturity on A Place That I Call Home. With hundreds of millions of streams, they’re now shining a light on their evolution without pulling any of the punches that have landed their music on TV shows like Yellowstone and American Idol.

This fall, Kolton Moore & The Clever Few will be out on the road for a headlining tour, kicking things off on October 9 in Birmingham, AL before making their way to Nashville, New York City, Atlanta, Chicago and more.

Greta Gaines Releases Soulful New Album ‘Bird Before Light’ Out Today

0

Greta Gaines is excited to announce that her new record, Bird Before LIght, is out today.

According to Gaines, the new album, Bird Before Light, is about getting out of one’s comfort zone as a songwriter, one who typically writes alone and in solitude.” She explains, “It explores certain themes that I find myself wrestling with in midlife — empty nesting, newfound anxiety, resistance to change, grief, and betrayal — while also pursuing faith, finding the simple joy that comes with sharing time with old friends, and immersing myself in the beauty of nature and the natural world.”

The album, produced by Jim Reilley, mixed by Eric Fritsch and Mill Logan, and was recorded at Ken Coomer’s Cartoon Moon and Eastwood Studios in East Nashville. In addition to Greta playing guitar, the album features drummer Ken Coomer (Wilco), Jim Reilley on bass, Eric Fritsch (Marty Stuart) on electric guitar, piano, keyboards, Grammy winner Tim O’Brien on fiddle and harmony vocals, Adam Ollendorff  (Kasey Musgraves) on pedal steel, Kevin Roentgen (Buckcherry) on electric guitar, and Raul Malo (The Mavericks), and Dan Bern (Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.)

She’s earned the praises of the pundits as well. Rolling Stone reviewed her song “Empty Spaces” from her last album, Pale Star; they wrote, “Gaines sings in a clear tone reminiscent of Aimee Mann, while the music blooms from a sturdy folk-rock arrangement into a psychedelic swirl of pinging keys and brass. It’s a cavernous sound that reverberates with the ache of loss.” Americana Highways shared their raves, “with a voice that reflects the most soulful side of modern life, she can mix genres in a way that hasn’t been done before. The singer-songwriter knows that with loss comes new life and that the only way to overcome the sadness is to look for the light. Greta Gaines is truly a spiritualist and sounds like she is still just getting started.” Maverick magazine described her efforts as “grown-up, cool Americana music aimed at people who appreciate lyrics and musicianship.

In addition to making music, Greta was the first Woman’s World Extreme Snowboard Champion; the originator of Freeride, a series devoted to lifestyle, music, extreme sports, and the environment; an advocate for NORML; and former on-air commentator for MTV, ESPN, Oxygen Media, and the and owner and operator of her record label, Big Air Records.

ALEXSUCKS Launch New Era With Anthemic Single and Video ‘The Headache’

0

LA-based wildcards ALEXSUCKS have kickstarted their next era with the reveal of a new single and music video “The Headache” out now. “The Headache” illustrates the band’s penchant for unprecedented and undeniable alternative rock bangers.

Across the song produced by Andrew Wells [Jason Mraz, Ellie Goulding], eighties-style synths flash and flicker over a head-nodding beat punctuated by sunny whistling. A loose riff brushes up against the call of woozy lyrics like, “I can’t even sleep it off. I’m at it again, yeah,” which is answered by a slick guitar lead. The track culminates on the chantable chorus, “And now the headache won’t go.”

The accompanying visual mirrors this ebb-and-flow by threading together performance footage from a whirlwind of touring and the group’s various adventures across the country. If you missed their seismic set at Lollapalooza or weren’t in one of the packed houses on the Late Night Drive Home Tour, the clip might be the next best thing!
