Ryan Reidy Announces New Art Rock Album ‘Fringe Body Parts’ Out November 7

0

Chicago/Los Angeles-based musician Ryan Reidy has announced his new LP Fringe Body Parts, due out November 7th. To accompany the announcement, he’s shared the fuzzed-out, catchy lead single “Dr. Felix And His Fringe Body Parts.”

The new album from Reidy is noisy, unhinged, and guitar-forward, yet it still maintains a strong pop sensibility–with soaring melodies filtered through a blood-pumping wall of sound, the 12-track LP is a magnificent take on art rock through a Midwestern DIY lens.

Ryan Reidy’s roots run deep in the DIY and underground music scenes, previously playing in acts such as Ari Ari (Friction Records), Thunders (A Squared Industries/Asthmatic Kitty), and has been a touring musician for Margot & The Nuclear So And So’s and Male Gaze. The new album from Reidy is a noisy, unhinged blend of punk, noise rock, art rock, and garage rock.

Fraser T. Smith to Receive BMI President’s Award at 2025 BMI London Awards

0

BMI today announced that Fraser T. Smith will be presented with the BMI President’s Award at the 2025 BMI London Awards held on 29 September at The Dorchester. The multi-award-winning producer, songwriter and musician will be honoured for the remarkable breadth of his career-defining work and collaborations with some of the biggest artists in the world, such as Adele, Drake, Sam Smith, Snow Patrol and more. The private event will be hosted by BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill and EVP, Chief Revenue & Creative Officer Mike Steinberg.

The ceremony also pays tribute to the British and European songwriters and publishers of the previous year’s most-performed songs on US streaming, radio, film, television and visual media from BMI’s repertoire of over 22.4 million musical works. The BMI London Song of the Year, Million-Air Awards, and awards for Pop, Film, Television and Cable Television Music will also be presented throughout the evening.
“Fraser T. Smith is widely recognized as one of the UK’s most influential and sought-after producers and songwriters, whose musical contributions and ability to span genres created some of the most impactful songs of our generation,” said O’Neill. “We’re thrilled to commemorate his illustrious career as an acclaimed collaborator and a solo artist with the BMI President’s Award. We’re also excited to celebrate our BMI family of award-winning songwriters and composers and recognize their musical achievements over the last year.”

Smith has spent much of his career spanning over three decades, producing and songwriting for some of the most prominent artists in the world, including Adele, Craig David, Drake, Florence and the Machine, Gorillaz, Kano, Stormzy, Sam Smith, Snow Patrol and many more. Before becoming one of the UK’s most in-demand creators of contemporary music, Smith was a session guitarist in the 1990s, performing on more than 200 records. In 1999, he met a then-unknown Craig David, and was his guitarist for five years before collaborating on three of David’s albums, Born to Do It, Slicker Than Your Average and Trust Me.

Over the years, Smith has co-written, mixed and produced seven No. 1 singles in the UK, two Billboard No. 1 singles in the US, contributed to 18 No. 1 albums, and has received multiple awards, accolades, and praise from his peers and the media alike. In 2011, Fraser won a GRAMMY for his work on Adele’s massively successful album 21 and received his first Ivor Novello nomination for “Broken Strings” by James Morrison the following year. In 2015, Fraser received a GRAMMY nomination for his contributions to Sam Smith’s In the Lonely Hour and was honored with a Latin GRAMMY for his collaboration with Mexican duo Jesse & Joy on Un Besito Más. Smith was shortlisted for the 2016 Mercury Prize, nominated for a 2017 Brit Award, and won Best Album at the MOBO Awards for his work on Kano’s album, Made in the Manor, and was also honored for Stormzy’s Brit and Ivor Novello-winning debut album, Gang Signs & Prayer. Most recently, he produced Snow Patrol’s album, The Forest Is The Path, the band’s first No. 1 album in 18 years, and produced Kae Tempest’s critically acclaimed 2025 album, Self-Titled.

Smith has received critical acclaim as a solo artist as well. His 2020 debut, 12 Questions, was recorded under the moniker Future Utopia and featured an incredible roster of artists, including Stormzy, Dave, Kano, Ghetts, Bastille, Es Devlin, Simon Armitage and Idris Elba. Returning earlier this year, Future Utopia released two brand new singles in 2025, kicking the year off with the hypnotic disco-inspired “Don’t Try This At Home” and teamed up with Lava La Rue on the mesmeric psyche banger “The Pleasure Trap.” Smith won an Ivor Novello Award in 2021 for his collaboration with Dave on one of the album’s singles, “Children of the Internet,” marking the second Ivor for the pair, with the first in 2018 for Dave’s “Question Time.”

As a BMI President’s Award honouree, Smith joins an elite group of previous recipients including benny blanco, Luis Fonsi, Noel Gallagher, Ellie Goulding, Imagine Dragons, Jay Kay of Jamiroquai, Ludacris, P!nk, Willie Nelson, Pitbull, T-Pain, Taylor Swift, Brian Wilson, and Dwight Yoakam, to name a few.

Dave Koz and the Summer Horns Turn Flight Delays into an In-Flight Stevie Wonder Concert

What began as a frustrating travel ordeal for Dave Koz and the Summer Horns quickly transformed into an unforgettable experience. Stuck on the tarmac and later diverted to Boise, the group was asked by a flight attendant if they could play for the restless passengers. With instruments in hand, Koz and his bandmates—Marcus Anderson, Marcel Anderson, Jeff Bradshaw, Leo P, and Evan Taylor—launched into Stevie Wonder’s “You Haven’t Done Nothing.” What could have been just another miserable delay turned into proof that even in chaos, music has the power to uplift and unite.

Be it songs about MLB legends like “The Babe,” humorous and heartfelt salutes to lesser-known players like “Pasqual on the Perimeter” about Brave Pasqual Perez getting lost on the way to a game or a song like “They Played Baseball” that rattles off a whole rogues gallery of major league stars with all-too-human foibles, there are no rules as to what constitutes a baseball song…or a great rock show. They just play high energy rock shows and make damn fine rock records which honor, skewer and wax nostalgic about the grand old game.

Southern Avenue Extend ‘Family’ Tour with New Dates and Share Soulful Single “So Much Love”

0

GRAMMY-nominated Memphis-based roots, blues, and soul band Southern Avenue, whose Alligator Records debut album Family continues generating massive amount of radio, press and popular acclaim, have announced dates for the second leg of the Family tour. Featuring lead vocalist/songwriter Tierinii Jackson (who can also be heard on the soundtrack for the hit film, Sinners), her husband, guitarist/songwriter Ori Naftaly, and her sisters, drummer/vocalist/songwriter Tikyra (T.K.) Jackson and percussionist/violinist/vocalist Ava Jackson, the band is unlike any other on the scene today.

Southern Avenue are known worldwide for their inclusive, message-driven songs and soaring harmonies, all fueled by hard-hitting grooves and electrifying guitar. The band’s new single, “So Much Love,” is now hitting radio airwaves around the world. According to Tierinii, “’So Much Love is about finding love in the little things. Those quiet, beautiful moments we sometimes overlook. We wrote this song as a thank you to our fans, to remind us all that love is always there if you’re open to seeing it.”

With this tour, Southern Avenue — recently named the 2025 Band Of The Year by Living Blues magazine — will bring their signature brand of Memphis roots and soul music to all corners of the U.S. Dates include a performance at AmericanaFest in Nashville on September 11, where they will also deliver a live-on-air performance at the NPR Music Day Stage hosted by Nashville’s WMOT-FM.

Sharing their excitement, tastemaker NPR Music station WXPN-FM in Philadelphia named Southern Avenue as its August “Artist To Watch”. According to WXPN Program Director Jim McGuinn, “Southern Avenue unleashes uplifting and timeless performances that are delivered with soul-healing power and fueled by warm sister harmonies.”

The band will perform live at the station’s famous XPoNential Music Festival on September 19.

Additionally, NPR Music chose the song Upside as their “Live Sessions Song Of The Day” on Thursday, July 24. The track exploded in popularity, immediately becoming the most streamed song on Live Sessions for the week. Southern Avenue’s stripped-down performance was originally recorded for WNRN-FM in Richmond, Virginia.

Southern Avenue, 'Family' Tour, tour flyer

Since the April 2025 release of Family, Southern Avenue has earned a remarkable amount of positive press and has received radio play worldwide. No Depression shouted, “Voices soaring, beats pulsing, and spirits on fire…between the irresistible grooves and unflagging positivity, it’s impossible not to feel reborn and uplifted after spending time with this dynamic quartet.”

AllMusic declared, “Family is Southern Avenue’s most remarkable album to date. Glorious, iconic, three-part harmony vocals…a dynamic, organic meld of soul, blues, Memphis funk and roots rock. Gritty and soaring stomp-and-roll…hip, warm and summery…spiritually uplifting and hard-driving.”

Blues Music Magazine added, “Family highlights the seamless beauty and forthright honesty of the Jackson sisters’ stellar harmonies, conjuring up memories of The Staple Singers…a joyful celebration that packs a musical punch…a vibrant prayer for a brighter tomorrow.”

Johnny Winter’s ‘Live At The Fillmore East, 1970’ Arrives with Unreleased Tracks September 26

0

In 1970, at the age of 26 and at the peak of his powers, the remarkable Texan guitarist Johnny Winter performed a legendary set at New York’s Fillmore East, accompanied by his bandmates – guitarist Rick Derringer and bass player Randy Jo Hobbs (both of “Hang On Sloopy” 60s teenage sensations The McCoys) plus drummer Bobby Caldwell. On September 26, Floating World Records will release ‘Live At The Fillmore East, 1970’ on vinyl LP & CD, an album that contains five previously unreleased tracks from the same show and in-depth sleeve notes by respected music writer Alan Robinsonpre-order here.

‘Live At The Fillmore East, 1970’ contains two tracks from the 1971 concert album ‘Live Johnny Winter And’ – “Good Morning Little School Girl” and “It’s My Own Fault”- plus five previously unreleased tracks from the same show, including Derringer’s “Rock And Roll, Hoochie Koo”, which Derringer himself would record on his 1973 solo debut album ‘All American Boy’. Derringer and Winter had contrasting guitar styles that sparked off one another, and the vitality of their playing on this album feels like a fitting tribute to Derringer, who passed away in May this year at the age of 77.

By 1971 Winter’s growing heroin addiction meant he had to put his career on hiatus whilst he went into rehab, and he wouldn’t release anything new until his classic, Rick Derringer-produced ‘Still Alive and Well’ album of 1973.

Born in Beaumont, Texas in 1944, with the rare condition Albinism, Johnny Winter was a guitarist, songwriter, and record producer best known for his high-energy blues rock albums and live performances. He also produced three Grammy Award-winning late career albums for blues singer and guitarist Muddy Waters. In 1988, Winter was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame, and in 2003 he was ranked 63rd in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the ‘100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time’.

Johnny Winter died in Zurich, Switzerland, on July 16th, 2014, of a combination of emphysema and pneumonia. Writing in Rolling Stone magazine, after Winter’s death, David Marchese said, “Winter was one of the first blues rock guitar virtuosos, releasing a string of popular and fiery albums in the late Sixties and early Seventies, becoming an arena-level concert draw in the process” … [he] “made an iconic life for himself by playing the blues”.

This album serves to remind the listener of what exactly the Johnny Winter reputation was founded upon; incredible guitar playing virtuosity matched by impassioned vocals and marbled through with an indelible love of and feeling for The Blues. His influence lives on.

JOHNNY WINTER: ‘LIVE AT THE FILLMORE EAST, 1970’

02 Good Morning Little School Girl – Live (Bob Love / Don Level)
03 It’s My Own Fault – Live (McKinley Morganfield)

04 Highway 61 Revisited – Live (Bob Dylan)
05 Mean Town Blues – Live (Johnny Winter)
06 Rock And Roll, Hoochie Koo – Live (R. Derringer)
07 Rollin’ and Tumblin’ – Live (McKinley Morganfield)

KT Tunstall Celebrates 20 Years of ‘Eye To The Telescope’ with Deluxe Anniversary Reissue

0

Multi-platinum, BRIT Award-winning and Grammy-nominated artist KT Tunstall announces the 20th anniversary reissue of her iconic debut album, Eye To The Telescope, due for release in exclusive collector’s edition vinyl and 2 CD and 4 CD formats, featuring B-sides and exclusive live tracks, on October 31st. Included on the album and to mark this major milestone, fans will be treated to the first-time release of a long-lost gem: the previously unheard title track, “Eye To The Telescope,” available exclusively now, to coincide with the official reissue announcement.

Written by Tunstall and produced by long-time collaborator Martin Terefe, the song lay unfinished in the vaults for two decades until, inspired by the forthcoming anniversary, Tunstall decided to revisit and finish it.

Originally released at the tail end of 2004, the Eye To The Telescope album catapulted Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall into the global spotlight, fueled by an unforgettable live debut on Later… with Jools Holland – a career-defining moment that saw Tunstall seize a last-minute opportunity to fill in for rapper Nas, and perform with nothing but her guitar, loop pedal, and tambourine. Her performance of “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” became instantly iconic, one of the first examples of a ‘viral moment’ and launched a record that features several hit singles, which was given its full push in 2025 on the back of that moment. The album contained several hits, including the massive “Suddenly I See” – a song that became inextricably linked to pop culture history with its full-length feature in the opening scene of The Devil Wears Prada, forever associating both the song and Tunstall with a ubiquitous zeitgeist moment.

From her fearless solo looping to her emotive, genre-spanning songwriting, Tunstall has never been one to stand still creatively. Recipient of several awards, most recently the prestigious Ivor Novello Award for outstanding Song Collection, Tunstall has continued to tour the world and release eight critically acclaimed albums.

As many have pointed out, Tunstall is a relatively rare example of a small but exclusive line of female singer-songwriters, either from or adopted by this country, whose guitar playing, both acoustic and electric, is unapologetically front and centre; think Chrissie Hynde, PJ Harvey, and Tunstall collaborator Suzi Quatro.

A highlight of the anniversary rerelease is the addition of three new songs, including future single “Cancerian, Anything At All,” as well as the title track “Eye To The Telescope.” These songs were started during the original writing sessions and left unfinished until this year. These three new tracks will also be released as their own stand-alone digital EP- The Stargazer EP, which will contain the original versions as well as the “Still” acoustic versions, on October 31st. The first taste is the song “Eye To the Telescope,” which features original string arranger David Davidson returning to add lush orchestration, alongside a special performance from acclaimed musician Shabaka, whose wooden flute lends a transcendent quality to the piece.

The 20th anniversary reissue promises to be a heartfelt celebration of Tunstall’s enduring artistry, and a time capsule of the record that changed everything. Delicate, introspective, and brimming with wonder, the new single is a perfect reflection of the magic that made Eye to the Telescope a timeless classic – and offers both old and new fans a beautiful glimpse into Tunstall’s creative universe.

Rising Country Star Ty Myers Unveils Candid New Single “Through a Screen”

0

Breakout country phenomenon Ty Myers shares his hotly anticipated new song “Through a Screen,” an all-too-real and deeply personal account of dating in the digital era. Out now via Records Nashville/Columbia, “Through a Screen” arrives after overwhelming demand from the 18-year-old rising star’s insatiable fan base.

One of the most compelling new artists on the scene, Myers composed the music and lyrics to “Through a Screen” entirely on his own – once again revealing a musical talent that defies all age barriers. Before releasing the unflinchingly honest song, he shared a sound clip on TikTok that instantly received a rapturous response, with over 30K UGC (user-generated content) created in the first two weeks alone. This marks his best-performing pre-release sound on the platform to date.

Recorded at the historic Fame Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL, “Through a Screen” came to life with producer Brandon Hood – one of Myers’ main collaborators on his landmark debut album The Select, a widely acclaimed 2025 LP that features standouts like the platinum smash (and his current single) “Ends of the Earth,” along with “Thought It Was Love” and “Drinkin’ Alone” (both gold). In a thrilling glimpse at his eagerly awaited sophomore effort, “Through a Screen” brings his soulful voice to a moody and sprawling sound built on driving piano melodies, sweeping strings, and incandescent guitar work (courtesy of renowned musicians like Tom Bukovac, an A-list session player whose credits include legends like Glen Campbell and Vince Gill).

In the latest testament to the quiet strength of Myers’ artistry, the sonic grandeur of “Through a Screen” never overshadows the pure impact of its storytelling. To that end, the song finds him embracing a gritty vulnerability as he opens up about the utter strangeness of online dating: “What’s your favorite color? / Falling for each other / And we ain’t even met / I’ve only known your name for a week / But now I know your insecurities / And in a month you’ll be telling me you love me / Through a screen.” As he drifts from confusion to cautious hope and back again, Myers’ unfiltered confession is made all the more potent by the painfully lived-in quality of his lyrics. Adding another layer of emotional depth to “Through a Screen,” the song has struck a deep chord with his legions of ardent fans, further proving the prevalence and power of his online infatuation.

Another track recorded with Hood at Fame Recording Studios, the Southern Soul-infused “Leaving Carolina” arrived just last month (alongside its John Park-directed visualizer), and presented a glorious introduction to Myers’ next chapter. With more than half a billion global streams to date, the Texas-born singer-songwriter-guitarist is now playing both new songs on his sold-out The Select Tour – a 66-date headline run bringing his can’t-miss live performance to over 145K fans. Scheduled through November 8th at Masonic Temple Theatre in Detroit, MI, the tour showcases the undeniable star power that’s earned Myers countless accolades over the past year.

BJRNCK Shares Soulful New Single and Video “Safety” via Geffen Records

0

GRAMMY-nominated R&B singer / songwriter BJRNCK returns with her new single and music video for “Safety,” out now via Geffen Records. The music video, directed by Austin “Salty” Simkins, immerses her fans into her intimate world as she leads a sultry dance sequence through a moody, aqua-blue themed room.

The record continues to showcase BJRNCK’s heartfelt storytelling with her melodic and fearless vocals as she sings about loyalty, consistency and what she is looking for when feeling secure in her love life.

This new confident, soulful anthem comes off the heels of her recently released singles, “Crazy” and “Club,” which set the tone of her highly anticipated forthcoming project that is set to be released in a few months. BJRNCK continues to push her breakout year forward, as she unapologetically remains her true and raw self. Over the last few years, BJRNCK has pushed deeper into the spotlight after being recognized as Future & Metro Boomin’s video star in their “Drink N Dance” music video, and was featured on Omarion single, “Sunny Dayz” which led BJRNCK to her first Grammy nomination. While staying true to her mission of raw honesty, the Chicago-born artist pulls back the curtain on the messy, beautiful reality of modern love and woman-hood. With lyrics that feel like a conversation and production that pulls you in, BJRNCK’s music is a reflection of the real, unfiltered moments that anybody can relate to in their own way. More music and surprises are on the way, and it’s clear this will be the year she truly makes her mark.
