Geese Share Groovy Rock Single “100 Horses” from Upcoming Album ‘Getting Killed’

0

New York City’s Geese share new single “100 Horses”. The second – intentional – early offering from the band’s new album follows lead single “Taxes” and the rogue leak of “Trinidad” by Cameron Winter at Newport Folk Festival, which Stereogum described as “violently different” than its predecessor, “in the best possible way.” The band’s new single is the rambling, groovy rock tune that welcomes global collapse with open arms, propelled forward by a steadily chugging rhythm section and muddied guitars that soundtrack Cameron’s absurdist apocalyptic dance party.

Geese’s third studio album, Getting Killed, obliterates any expectations the band has set with their discography to date. After lighting the fuse with the beguiling post-punk experiments of their 2021 debut album Projector and the rollicking cowboy rock record followup of 2023’s 3D Country, Getting Killed examines the wreckage of blowing up those ideas and picking up the pieces to form their own bold and exacting vision. The album was recorded with renowned producer Kenneth Blume in his LA studio over a month-long stretch and what Geese emerged with is a chaotic comedy of epic proportions. Getting Killed balances a disarming new tenderness with an intensified anger, with each member of the band wielding an earned, unshakeable confidence and a hearty disdain of conventional music structures.

In October, Geese will embark on ‘The Getting Killed Tour’, which will see the band headline shows across North America this Fall on the biggest headline run of their career. Launching in Burlington, Vermont, on October 10th and concluding with back-to-back hometown shows at Brooklyn Paramount on November 20th and 21st, most shows are now sold out or second dates have been added.

The band’s 2023 sophomore album 3D Country has developed into a modern classic, with Rolling Stone calling it “one of the best New York rock albums of the past few years” and Paste calling it the “best rock record made by Zoomers ever.” Geese have played festival sets at Bonnaroo, Governors Ball, Lollapalooza, Dog Days, Pickathon, Newport Folk Festival, ACL and more, and have toured with the likes of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Greta Van Fleet, Spoon, Jack White and Vampire Weekend. Geese first started teasing music from the new album at festival sets earlier this year, whipping up fans into an absolute frenzy on the heels of frontman Cameron Winter’s widely-lauded and mildly befuddling solo debut Heavy Metal. Critically-acclaimed by The New York Times, Pitchfork, i-D, GQ & more, Winter’s idiosyncratic, soul-searching personal journey has led him back to Geese, who have a bold, powerful new record in the chamber with Getting Killed.

Marshall Crenshaw Unearths Rare Demo “Walkin’ Around” for Archival Album ‘From The Hellhole’

0

Acclaimed singer/songwriter and record-maker Marshall Crenshaw shares “Walkin’ Around,” a previously unreleased demo recording featured on From The Hellhole out Friday, August 29 on Yep Roc Records. Curated by Crenshaw, the 14-track remixed and remastered collection features rare deep cuts and a series of songs from previously released limited edition EPs released between 2012-16.

Of “Walkin’ Around” Crenshaw offers, “My home recording of a song that wound up on my 5th album (“Life”s Too Short”). I like it better than the album track, even though it was recorded on a crappy tape machine. This recording has never been released. A few years ago, a person that I’ve known and liked for a long time reached out to tell me how this song had been a favorite of his since 1991, and he asked if I had a demo of it, or any alternate version of it, that I’d be willing to send to him. I was happy that he asked, and was really happy to discover that the demo is GREAT. There are maybe a couple of notes in it that I’d fix, but it really has that spirit and that immediacy that happens when you record a brand new song that you’re excited about. Hearing it made me wish that I’d had professional quality recording equipment of my own back then- that way the “demo” could’ve been the record. (By the time I did the album version, the song was maybe a year old.) Ever since then I’ve been waiting for a chance to release this track, and here it is.”

Produced by Crenshaw, From The Hellhole was primarily recorded in his home studio, affectionately dubbed “The Hellhole,” and mostly spans the last two decades (plus one song from 1990) resurrecting eleven of the eighteen tracks originally issued on the EPs, all of which have been out of print since 2017. With rights now reverted to Crenshaw, these recordings have been compiled here in the interest of what he describes as “legacy curation”-a personal mission to properly archive and reissue work that continues to resonate. Of the eleven EP tracks, eight have been remixed. “They’re their possible best selves now,” says Crenshaw.

From The Hellhole includes “Grab The Next Train” and “Move Now,” as well as several highly personal renditions of songs by various artists such as The Bobby Fuller Four, Rare Earth, Karen and Richard Carpenter, and Todd Rundgren. Crenshaw explains, “People over the years have suggested to me, ‘Hey, you oughta do a covers album’- I went halfway there with this one, and had a lot of fun doing it.”

In support of the album, Crenshaw will hit the road on a fall tour with stops throughout the Midwest, Southeast, and East Coast.

The Vintage Caravan Unveil Retro-Prog Single “Crossroads” from Forthcoming Album ‘Portals’

0

After they recently joined forces with Opeth’s Mikael Akerfeldt on their latest single “Philosopher”, Icelandic retro-fueled prog rock trio The Vintage Caravan have released a new song taken from their forthcoming studio album, Portals, due out on September 26, 2025 via Napalm Records

A music video for the band’s new single, “Crossroads” – a thunderous blend of 70s-inspired riffs and modern energy – is now premiering below. The track showcases The Vintage Caravan’s signature fusion of classic hard rock, blues, and psychedelia.

Bassist Alexander Orn Numason reveals: “We are very happy to present to you our new single Crossroads! The song, which is a slight departure from our previous work, almost ended up on our album Monuments. Ultimately we felt like the time wasn’t right but fast forward a few years, we had a few playthroughs and finally we felt like we were able to do the song justice.

“This album is very much about trying out new styles and techniques and this was the perfect fit for this diverse catalog of songs. At this point in our career we feel like we can really try completely new things and just allow songs to be what they are without having to adhere to a certain style and I think it really shows with this album.

“Lyrically the song was written when I was at a certain crossroads in my life. It reflects on that through the lens of being lost in a forest at nighttime and your mind racing at every sound and sight. The cherry on top for this song were the guest vocals from Icelandic powerhouse singer Eypor Ingi, who happened to be in Porto at the time.

“We sincerely hope you enjoy and thanks for listening!”

Luther Dickinson Reimagines Grateful Dead’s Blues Roots on ‘Dead Blues Vol. 1’

0

Luther Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars will release Dead Blues Vol. 1 on October 17, 2025 via Strolling Bones Records. The 9-song set was produced by the 10-time GRAMMY Award-nominated Dickinson and is a collection of blues songs the Grateful Dead performed throughout their career by Blind Lemon Jefferson, Bo Diddley, the Mississippi Sheiks, Willie Dixon, and more. The album features vocals by Datrian Johnson, as well as a host of special guests including Phil Lesh’s son Grahame Lesh, Steve Selvidge of The Hold Steady, Dickinson’s brother and North Mississippi Allstars bandmates, Cody Dickinson, and Ray Ray Holloman (Eminem), and more.

Dead Blues Vol. 1 lands somewhere between the Mississippi Delta and outer space, reimagining an array of traditional blues tunes from the Dead’s catalog through a boldly experimental sonic palette. The songs here bear little resemblance to their forefathers; the musical beds are more Memphis funk and jazz than blues and folk, and the melodies are completely transformed to match. Only the lyrics remain largely unchanged, and the result is an exhilaratingly adventurous work that’s equal parts innovation and preservation. Dead Blues Vol. 1 is a distinctly modern, original take on the foundational building blocks of American music delivered by one of its most steadfast champions.

Today, PopMatters premiered Dickinson’s rendition of “Who Do You Love.” Dickinson says, “This Bo Diddley classic is built on a track I wrote on bass and keyboards and finished with my Memphis friends, Mem_Mods (Steve Selvidge and New Memphis Colorways). Their contributions and Datrian Johnson’s vocals fit so naturally and felt so good, I knew we were on a like-minded endeavor showcasing some of my closest friends as well as scratching an aesthetic and stylistic itch of mine.”

Dickinson may have grown up on roots music, but for the last decade, he’s had his mind on the Grateful Dead thanks to the late Phil Lesh, who invited him and his brother to join the Phil & Friends collective back in 2013. “I honestly hadn’t spent much time with the Dead’s music growing up,” Dickinson confesses, “but when Phil invited Cody and I to play with him, we jumped at the opportunity.” The pair then studied up on the band’s catalog in preparation for rehearsals and performances with the legendary bassist. “The more we performed together, the more I realized how many great old blues songs the Dead had played in their time, which led to the Dead Blues concept.” Dickinson adds, “Phil changed my life. He welcomed me into his crew, taught me his repertoire, shared his improvisational approaches, and introduced me to a whole new community of musicians. This record reflects Phil’s wild musical spirit and approach to re-interpretation.”

When the pandemic put a stop to touring and performing in 2020, Dickinson found himself working on an instrumental album written on bass and keyboards. As the project evolved, he began bringing in friends and family to help flesh out the tracks. Just when he thought he was finished, a new friend arrived to change everything. “When John Medeski introduced me to Datrian Johnson, I had this revelation that he could sing the lyrics from the Dead Blues catalog on top of my instrumentals. He’s one of the most moving vocalists I’ve ever worked with on stage, and recording with him was just so effortless. He understood exactly what I was trying to do and brought this record to a whole new level.”

Dead Blues Vol. 1 may end up surprising longtime listeners of Dickinson, and that’s precisely the point. Dead Blues is, in the end, neither a blues record nor a Dead record, but rather something wholly new inspired by the revolutionary impact of both.”

Dead Blues Vol. 1 will be available across digital platforms, compact disc, and standard black vinyl and is available for pre-order NOW via STROLLING BONES RECORDS

John Carter Cash Releases Whimsical Folk-Country Single “Sleeping with the Mermaid” from Concept Album ‘Pineapple John’

0

GRAMMY-winning producer, songwriter, and recording artist John Carter Cash has released the official music video for his whimsical new single, “Sleeping with the Mermaid.” The track, out now via Avondale Records and distributed through The Orchard, is the second release from Cash’s forthcoming concept album, Pineapple John, due October 10, 2025.

Written by John Carter Cash and Bill Miller, the track leans fully into its playful spirit, weaving together a string of seaside shenanigans, questionable cocktails, and one unforgettable overnight guest, who may or may not have fins.
With clever wordplay and a tipsy singalong charm, the lyrics read like a beachside bar tab turned fever dream: “Hot beer, fishing off a short pier,” and “Last night she stayed and I woke up with a mermaid.” The song captures the essence of island escapism, where the fish aren’t biting but the drinks are flowing, and reality is up for interpretation.

Rooted in the imaginative narrative of the Pineapple John album, this track adds levity and comic relief to the concept record’s journey of self-discovery. Equal parts tongue-in-cheek and musically infectious, “Sleeping with the Mermaid” invites listeners to let loose, laugh a little, and dive headfirst into the wild side of paradise.

Featuring 15 tracks, Pineapple John follows the story of a weathered troubadour navigating themes of redemption, self-reflection, and the healing power of imagination. Produced by John Carter Cash and Trey Call, Pineapple John features performances from some of country music’s most talented artists. Marty Stuart plays electric guitar on “The Island Fair,” while Clare Bowen lends her voice as a background vocalist on both “The Hole In The Bottom of the Sea” and “The Island Fair.” Ana Cristina Cash and Caitlin Evanson lend background vocals throughout various tracks on the record.  Brandon Young, co-writer on “The Ocean Calling”, also contributes background vocals on “Pineapple John” among other songs. John Carter’s daughter A.B. Cash joins her father on “Beckoning Melody.” “The Hole in the Bottom of the Sea” (featuring vocals by John’s nephew, Thomas Gabriel) and other collaborations contribute to the album’s depth, with each artist adding their unique touch to the tale.

The tracklist blends heartfelt originals like “Snow on the Sand” with playful, folk-infused numbers including “The Hole in the Bottom of the Sea” and “Shame and Scandal.”  “Sleeping with the Mermaid” serves as a bridge between the mythical and the personal, delivering both introspection and a touch of magic.

Pineapple John features co-writes with Jack Ezra Cash, Caleb Caudle, Bill Miller, Thomas Gabriel, and more. The album also includes the classic “Shame and Scandal,” written by Lord Melody, and a fresh rendition of “Jamaica Farewell” by Irving Burgie. Pineapple John will be released via Avondale Records and distributed through The Orchard.

Growing up among one of Country Music’s most recognizable families, it’s no surprise that John Carter Cash would mature to become an accomplished and award-winning record producer. John Carter has produced hundreds of recordings for dozens of artists within the past 25 years, including Loretta Lynn, Elvis Costello, Jamey Johnson, Chris Cornell, George Jones, Jewel, Mavis Staples, Brooks & Dunn, Sheryl Crow, Kris Kristofferson, Norman and Nancy Blake, Marty Stuart, Carrie Underwood, Tanya Tucker, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, Rosanne Cash, John Cowan, Vince Gill, Rodney Crowell, Carlene Carter, Reba McEntire, John Prine, and String Revolution featuring Tommy Emmanual. A two-time GRAMMY Award winner, John Carter has also contributed to an additional six GRAMMY-winning projects as a producer, writer, or collaborator – underscoring his long-standing impact on American music. The grandson of Maybelle Carter and the only son from the marriage of John R Cash and June Carter Cash, he preserves the family legacy and is a caretaker to the heritage of his musical ancestors. John Carter and his wife, Ana Cristina Cash, own and operate Cash Cabin Enterprises, LLC in Hendersonville, TN.

3L3D3P Drops Hyper-Pop Anthem “OSTRASIZED” Ahead of Official Video Release

0

Los Angeles-based producer, vocalist, and artist 3L3D3P continues her unstoppable rise with the release of her third single, “OSTRACIZED”, out everywhere now, followed by the official music video on Friday, August 29.

Following the self-directed visuals for “>>> (FWD)” and “rpa”, “OSTRASIZED” trades club shadows for a glittery, bubblegum pop anthem carried by airy vocals and sugar-coated melodies. The accompanying video Directed by Dylan Bieber, inspired by the hyper-stylized, plastic perfection of K-pop, marks one of 3L3D3P’s most unapologetically fun statements to date, carving out its own distinct place within her growing discography.

A fearless hybrid of drum & bass energy and hyper-pop sparkle, the track underscores 3L3D3P’s refusal to be boxed in, further cementing her as one of the most innovative artists in the electronic underground.

“OSTRASIZED” in 3L3D3P’s own words: “This song was a follow up to a more rash and hard song I created on the same day. After all the hardness was released out of my heart, I was left with the softer, bubbled OSTRASIZED; the name still emitting the hard hardness that was in me. I wanted something to dance to ethereally after such a big release 🙂 It feels amazing to finally release this song so I can finally listen to it on my playlist haha”

Currently in the midst of a headline world tour across the U.S. and Europe – with support from LustSickPuppy, Izzy Camina, Geller, tamanaramen, Mietze Conte, LYZZA, and gabby start – 3L3D3P is bringing her cult-favorite live chaos to audiences worldwide. Each performance blurs the line between punk show and rave, embodying the raw creativity of the Vada Vada Collective (home to The Garden, Cowgirl Clue, and more).

Beyond the stage, 3L3D3P is also set to release her debut NTS Radio Mix shortly after “OSTRACIZED,” expanding her footprint as a disruptive voice in the new punk-electronic wave.

For fans of PinkPantheress, Yazida, Snow Strippers, Charli XCX, and Grimes, 3L3D3P is delivering a project that feels both familiar and future-facing, pairing DIY grit with pop ambition.

Seth Avett Announces Introspective Folk-Rock Album ‘Feathe’ with Reflective New Single “Education”

0

Seth Avett— celebrated songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and founding member of The Avett Brothers—will release his new solo album, Feathe (rhymes with ‘breathe’), on September 5 under the name Timothy Seth Avett as Darling. Showcasing Avett’s ongoing autobiographical narrative, experience-based philosophy, and musical evolution, Feathe marks a bold new creative chapter for Avett, pulling inspiration from the music of his childhood and expanding into fresh sonic territory.

Written entirely by Avett over the course of many years and co-produced with Dana Nielsen (SZA, Adele, Weezer, Rihanna), Feathe blends organic instrumentation with experimental elements, fusing guitar, bass, drums, piano, and synths — all performed by Avett and Nielsen. The result is a record that is at once intimate and expansive, rooted in classic songwriting while texturally unexpected.

Thematically, the album delves into the deeply personal landscape listeners have come to expect from Avett, with early fatherhood and growing spirituality at the fore. A palette of plainspoken positivity and sustaining hope color an already colorful canvas, with lyrics woven characteristically with vulnerability and care. Drawing inspiration from the shared musical canon, classic literature, and — as always — life itself, Feathe further establishes Avett’s emotional depth and versatility as both a musician and storyteller.

All vocals on the album are by Avett, with additional contributions from songwriter Jessica Lea Mayfield and Charissa Nielsen (Post Malone, The Smashing Pumpkins, Neil Young), giving Feathe an unmistakably singular focus. Each track has an accompanying home-spun music video as well.

Today, Avett also shares two singles from the album. The first single, “Education,” is a reflection on how life’s true lessons come from experience — loss, love, hardship, and fatherhood — rather than traditional schooling. Avett offers heartfelt wisdom to his son about the value of integrity, empathy and individuality.

Boo Boos Share Playful New Single “The Toughest Bitch I Know” Ahead of Debut Album ‘Young Love’

0

Today, dynamic bicoastal duo Boo Boos (comprised of co-singer/songwriters Katie Boo and Bronco Boo, A.K.A. E of EELS and Kate Mattison of 79.5) are sharing their new single “The Toughest Bitch I Know;” listen/share here. The new track is the latest taken from their forthcoming debut album Young Love, set for release September 19 via PIAS, presave/preorder here.

“The Toughest Bitch I Know” acts as a playful exchange between Katie and Bronco Boo, underpinned with a breezy, whimsical energy that seamlessly combines elements of ’70s groove with modern rock. The track doubles as an anthem of resilience and celebration: a love letter to strength, self-assurance, and the women who carry both grit and grace. With its infectious hooks and tongue-in-cheek charm, the track channels empowerment through its mix of sincerity and pure indie-rock joy.

Of “The Toughest Bitch I Know,” Katie Boo comments: “I am, it’s true.” Bronco Boo adds, “I’ve wracked my brain and I cannot think of one tougher.” “The Toughest Bitch I Know” follows the release of the first three singles from the upcoming LP, “Total Thunder,” “C’mon Baby” and “That’s Not A Thing.” All are available to stream now, watch the official video for “C’mon Baby” here.

Katie Boo was born in a small coal-mining town in Ohio and was raised by the radio before moving to Brooklyn, NY and changing her name to Kate Mattison. The electricity of the city combined with her love of the heartland’s soul music soon inspired Kate to start her band 79.5.

Bronco Boo began life in a Washington, D.C. hospital and was promptly brought home to live on the wild prairies of the Northern Virginia suburbs. He changed his name to Mark Everett and then again to the letter “E” and formed the band EELS before deciding to go back to Bronco in 2025.

While listening to radio station KCRW late one night in his adoptive town of Los Angeles, Bronco heard a song by 79.5 that he liked very much. When he was soon asked to make a playlist for Radio L’envie he put the song on it. This led to a verbal dialogue between the two artists that turned into a musical dialogue of ideas and songs sent back and forth between Brooklyn, NY and Los Feliz, CA.

Feeling like they were onto something special, and realizing they were born with the same last name, they felt it would be silly not to record these songs, so they did. Introducing rock’s newest supergroup. Boo Boos are here to make your boo boos OK.
