18 Non-Beatles Songs That Sounds Like The Beatles

0

The Beatles’ sonic signature—melodic basslines, rich vocal harmonies, inventive chord progressions, and studio experimentation—has echoed through decades of pop and rock music. While many artists have cited them as an influence, some songs go a step further: they sound so Beatlesque they could fool even devoted fans.

Lies – The Knickerbockers conjures Beatles vibes with jangly guitars and three-way harmonies. It climbed to #20 on the U.S. pop chart and #11 in Canada in 1966.

New York Mining Disaster 1941 – Bee Gees sparked rumors of being a secret Beatles record. George Harrison once admitted buying it thinking it was the Beatles.

Mr. Blue Sky – Electric Light Orchestra glimmers with orchestral pop and buoyant bounce reminiscent of Good Day Sunshine; Jeff Lynne has openly cited Beatles influence.

Come and Get It – Badfinger was written by Paul McCartney for the band—delivering unmistakable Beatles sensibility and details.

Time Will Show the Wiser – The Merry-Go-Round shines with sunny harmonies, chiming guitar tones, and melodic phrasing that recalls early Beatles singles; released in 1967, it became a cult classic in baroque pop circles.

Laura – Billy Joel carries period charm through melodic phrasing and intimate vocal delivery, often likened to a late‑Beatles ballad

Sub‑Rosa Subway – Klaatu floats with lush harmonies and orchestration that made many think the Beatles had reunited incognito

If You Want My Love – Cheap Trick carries bright melodies and urgent harmonies echoing Beatles-era pop.

Somebody Made for Me – Emitt Rhodes radiates sunny, McCartney-esque vocals and simple songcraft that feels like a hidden Beatles gem; released in 1970 as the opening track of his self-titled debut album.

Out of Control – Miles Kane channels a Beatles ballad with piano, melancholy lyrics, and psychedelic undertones; it appeared on his 2013 album Don’t Forget Who You Are.

Girl – Davy Jones echoes Lennon’s tender balladry with bittersweet lyrics and string-backed arrangement; it was released in 1971 and charted in the UK Top 40.

September Gurls – Big Star glows with chiming guitars, rich harmonies, and power-pop craftsmanship reminiscent of Revolver-era Beatles; it was released in 1974 and later covered by The Bangles.

Sowing the Seeds of Love – Tears for Fears explodes with Sgt. Pepper-style orchestration and vocal layering; it reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1989.

Bus Stop – The Hollies features sweeping harmonies and British charm reminiscent of mid‑’60s Beatles pop craftsmanship.

A World Without Love – Peter and Gordon was penned by McCartney and knocked the Beatles’ “Can’t Buy Me Love” from the top spot in 1964.

Happy Together – The Turtles sparkles with joyful vocals and snappy snare beats that could’ve easily passed for McCartney-era songwriting.

We All Belong – Dr. Dog, which wraps nostalgic melodies and lush vocal layers mimicking early Beatles brightness.

Wonderwall – Oasis (alas famously Beatles-inspired) gets a nod from fans for melodic structure and nostalgic charm.

While The Beatles left the stage in 1970, their influence never stopped recording. These twenty songs—spanning decades and genres—don’t merely borrow Beatles trademarks; they internalize and reinterpret them in deeply musical ways. If you’ve ever longed for a “new” Beatles track, these are as close as it gets—without crossing Abbey Road.

Eat. Stretch. Breathe. The Ultimate Self-Care Guide for Musicians

Whether you’re a touring artist, a weekend gig musician, or a daily practicer, performance demands more than talent—it requires stamina, focus, and resilience. Just like athletes, musicians benefit enormously from a balanced approach to health. Nutrition, yoga, and meditation aren’t just wellness buzzwords—they’re vital tools that can help musicians sustain energy, reduce stress, and prevent injury. Here are ten key benefits of incorporating these practices into your daily routine.

1. Increased Energy and Stamina

Proper nutrition fuels long rehearsals and demanding stage performances. Consuming complex carbohydrates (like whole grains), lean protein, and hydrating well before shows can prevent energy crashes mid-set. Yoga also improves circulation, helping deliver oxygen to muscles and the brain. Musicians who adopt these habits report more consistent performance energy and fewer post-show crashes.

2. Enhanced Mental Clarity and Focus

Meditation sharpens concentration and reduces mental clutter, allowing musicians to stay present during practice and performance. Daily mindfulness sessions—even just 10 minutes—can help reduce performance anxiety and improve memory retention. Nutrition plays a role too: omega-3 fatty acids (found in walnuts and flaxseed) support brain health and attention.

3. Improved Posture and Technique

Yoga strengthens core muscles and lengthens tight areas, leading to better playing posture and reduced strain. Whether you’re holding a violin or sitting at a drum kit, alignment is everything. Regular yoga practice increases proprioception—your awareness of body position—enhancing your technique.

4. Reduced Performance Anxiety

Stage fright is common—even for seasoned professionals. Meditation helps regulate the nervous system, while yoga calms the body through breath control (pranayama). Visualization techniques, often used in meditation, can help musicians mentally rehearse performances and enter the stage with more confidence. This mental edge is a game-changer for live shows.

5. Faster Recovery After Performances

Late nights, physical exertion, and emotional highs all take a toll. Anti-inflammatory foods like leafy greens, berries, and salmon help speed up physical recovery. Gentle yoga poses, such as legs-up-the-wall or child’s pose, support lymphatic drainage and relaxation. Meditation before bed enhances sleep quality—essential for healing. Musicians who recover well perform better consistently and reduce their risk of burnout.

6. Strengthened Immune System

A strong immune system is crucial for musicians on tour or in close contact with crowds. A balanced diet rich in vitamin C, zinc, and probiotics helps prevent illness. Meditation and yoga reduce cortisol (the stress hormone), which can suppress immune function. Regular practice of these wellness habits keeps you gig-ready year-round.

7. Better Breath Control and Lung Capacity

Breath is music’s silent partner. Yoga and meditation teach diaphragmatic breathing, improving lung capacity and control—crucial for vocalists and wind players. Even string players and pianists benefit, using breath to pace phrasing and maintain calm. Integrating breathing exercises into warmups can significantly elevate musical phrasing and stage presence.

8. Greater Emotional Resilience

Musicians face constant critique, comparison, and creative highs and lows. Meditation strengthens emotional regulation by rewiring brain areas like the amygdala (which processes fear and emotion). Nutrition affects mood too: foods rich in magnesium and B-vitamins help stabilize mood swings. These practices help musicians handle the industry’s ups and downs with more grace.

9. Injury Prevention and Management

Repetitive stress injuries are common in musicians—from carpal tunnel to tendonitis. Yoga supports joint mobility, muscular balance, and overall flexibility, which help prevent overuse injuries. Combining this with anti-inflammatory nutrition (like turmeric and ginger) provides a holistic strategy for long-term physical health.

10. Sustainable Career Longevity

Longevity in music isn’t just about talent—it’s about physical and mental sustainability. Maintaining healthy routines ensures that your body and mind can keep up with the demands of a lifelong career. Balanced meals, regular yoga practice, and mindful meditation are low-cost, high-reward investments. Taking care of it guarantees more years of music-making and fewer forced breaks.

Musicians are creative athletes—and like athletes, they benefit from routines that nourish both body and mind. By integrating nutrition, yoga, and meditation into your lifestyle, you set yourself up for stronger performances, healthier habits, and a more balanced career. Start small: a morning stretch, a 5-minute breathing exercise, or swapping processed snacks for whole foods. Over time, these choices will amplify not only your music, but your wellbeing.

Kelly Clarkson’s Isolated Vocals For “Because of You”

Written when she was just 16, Kelly Clarkson’s “Because of You” turned personal pain into pop power. Rejected for her debut album, she later reworked it with Evanescence’s Ben Moody and David Hodges, and it became a global hit. The ballad earned platinum status and topped charts worldwide.

Irish Alt-Rock Trio NewDad Share Poignant New Single “Pretty” Ahead of Upcoming Album ‘Altar’

0

Irish alt-rock trio NewDad share the latest glimpse into their forthcoming second album Altar with poignant new single “Pretty”, released today via Atlantic Records. The track stories the band’s love and admiration of Galway – their hometown – and arrives alongside a stunning visualizer set in the City, directed by longtime collaborator Peter Eason Daniels – one of the creative minds behind the visual world of Altar.

“Pretty” was conceived during one of the band’s early writing sessions in Galway last year alongside original band member Aindle O’Beirn, and follows the forerunning punchy-angst of “Roobosh” – the first taste of NewDad’s new era, released last month. While the first track offered catharsis through rage, “Pretty” in contrast, is a tender, introspective moment on the record – equal parts wistful and sharp. “‘Pretty’ is a lighter spin on a key theme of the album, homesickness. It was a way for me to express my adoration for Galway, it’s a love song really,” adds frontwoman Julie Dawson. Shimmering guitars and delicate melodies frame Julie’s hushed vocals as she contemplates “the way home looks, sounds, how even on the darkest, wettest days it’s the most beautiful place in the world to me and I yearn for it every single day of my life.” Like much of Altar, it captures NewDad’s evolving sound: dreamy yet grounded, wide in scope yet intimately personal.

“Coming to a place like London that’s so chaotic and overwhelming really made me appreciate the peace and quiet of home. Also the landscape, being able to see wide open fields and roads with no one on them it’s just so calming and I’m in love with it. That’s why I wrote this song” – Julie Dawson

Written across two years in the aftermath of the band’s relocation from Galway to London, Altar reflects on homesickness, identity, and the emotional cost of chasing a dream. It’s a record that balances light and dark, heaviness and healing, with frontwoman Julie Dawson explaining: “The album itself is where I divulge my love for home. It’s the idea that Ireland is the altar and it’s the thing that I worship, in a way.”

Produced and half co-written by Shrink (Sam Breathwick), with the second half co-written alongside Justin Parker, the album marks a bold step forward for NewDad, expanding their sonic palette by effortlessly blending dream-pop textures with jagged guitar lines and emotionally raw lyricism. Since their debut How in 2020, the Galway-born, London-based trio – Julie Dawson (vocals/guitar), Sean O’Dowd (guitar), and Fiachra Parslow (drums) – have earned international acclaim for their lush, immersive alt-rock sound. Following the release of breakthrough debut Madra in 2024, which saw them tour extensively across the UK, Europe, Asia, and North America and support acts like Pixies, The War on Drugs, and Fontaines DC, the band have grown in both confidence and clarity. Now, with Altar – a reflection on identity, sacrifice, and the tension between comfort and ambition – NewDad are poised to showcase an even bolder evolution and reach new creative heights. Following a huge run of headline shows across China and a run of festivals in Japan and North America, the trio will take the album on the road later this year for a UK/EU tour, full itinerary below

The Swell Season Perform Songs from New Album ‘Forward’ on CBS Saturday Sessions

0

The Swell Season-the beloved duo of Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova-performed on CBS Saturday Morning: Saturday Sessions last weekend, playing three songs from their acclaimed first new album in 16 years, Forward.

Watch the band’s (featuring bassist Joseph Doyle, drummer Piero Perelli, and additional guitarist Simon Good) gorgeous performances of “Stuck In Reverse,” “People We Used To Be,” and “Great Weight” now.

Released last month, Forward has been earning praise and support from NPR Music, CNN (‘Hollywood Minute’), WNYC’s All of It, Paste, American Songwriter, The A.V. Club, No Depression, All Music, Vinyl Emergency podcast, Songwriters On Process podcast, This Song Is Yours podcast, and WXPN’s World Cafe, among many others.

The Swell Season recently wrapped the first leg of their Forward tour of the U.S. and Canada, and the tour will continue next month in St. Louis, MO, on September 9th. The run includes a September 19th stop at Los Angeles, CA’s The Greek, and a full itinerary is below.

When 16 years have passed since the release of their beloved duo’s previous album, 2009’s Strict Joy, it might be expected that Hansard and Irglova would title a new collection of The Swell Season songs as something commemorative or reflective instead of the succinct Forward. But, as anyone who has followed their career will tell you, The Swell Season doesn’t exactly do things the typical way. First formed by Hansard-then best known as the frontman of Irish rock band The Frames-and Czech pianist and singer Irglova in 2005, The Swell Season released a self-titled LP in 2006 before going on to star in and perform their songs in the film Once. Much-loved and critically praised, the movie catapulted them into the spotlight, and earned the duo the 2007 “Best Original Song” Academy Award for “Falling Slowly” before being adapted into a Tony-winning Broadway smash. Yet they have never spent much time looking back.
