Danger Mouse and MorMor Blend Soul and Synth on Dreamy New Collaboration “Wonder”

0

Danger Mouse and MorMor have shared a mesmerizing new single “Wonder,” their first collaboration together. Listen HERE.

“Wonder” is co-written by Danger Mouse and MorMor, produced by Danger Mouse, and released on 30th Century Records.

Created spontaneously from scratch during an impromptu studio session, “Wonder” draws equally from Danger Mouse’s formative years spent listening to new wave music as it does from the childhood soundtrack of soul provided by his parents’ record collection. Together, with MorMor’s musicianship and beguiling vocals, the pair have made this unlikely yet alchemic blend of musical styles a lush reality.

Reflecting on the genesis of the song, MorMor says: “My relationship with Danger Mouse started when he invited me to meet and play music. From time to time we’d hang out and listen to records or watch films; not necessarily making music – I think we were both seeing if we could find an intersection where it’d make sense to pursue an idea. “Wonder “came from exactly that.”

Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) is one of the most versatile and prolific talents in modern-day music. His wide-ranging endeavors include; Broken Bells and Gnarls Barkley, collaborative albums with Karen O, Black Thought and MF DOOM; production for A$AP Rocky, Gorillaz, Adele, U2, Michael Kiwanuka and more; plus helming his own label, 30th Century Records. He is a twenty-two-time Grammy nominee and a six-time Grammy winner.   MorMor (Seth Zara Nyquist) is celebrated for his introspective blend of indie pop, R&B, and dreamlike synth textures. A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, MorMor crafts emotionally rich soundscapes marked by vulnerability and sonic depth. “Wonder” is MorMor’s first release since his 2022 debut album, Semblance.

Watershed Festival Returns with Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley & Bailey Zimmerman

0

Watershed Festival made its highly anticipated return to the breathtaking Gorge Amphitheatre this weekend as Washington’s “biggest country bash” (EverOut), treating fans to three sun-soaked days of country music magic. With jaw-dropping views and an all-star lineup featuring “electrifying” performances from a “blockbuster headlining trio” (Holler) including Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley and Bailey Zimmerman, the festival once again proved why it’s one of summer’s most beloved traditions.

The “stacked lineup of country stars” (Seattle Refined) kicked off in style on Friday afternoon; RaeLynn brought her signature country swagger to the Main Stage while local favorites The Woods amped up the crowd on the Next From Nashville Stage. As golden hour gave way to a gorgeous Gorge sunset, Ian Munsick kept the energy high with a powerhouse set packed with fan favorites. The night culminated with a high-octane performance from Jason Aldean, who lit up the stage and closed out an “amazing first day” (Prime Time Country Music) in front of a packed crowd of fans.

Saturday started bright and early with the return of the second annual Speedy Shedder Fun Run—a free, feel-good race open to all attendees, benefiting OK Kids Korral, a home away from home for families of children battling cancer. The momentum continued across both stages with standout performances from rising stars including Ashley Cooke, Chase Matthews, and “Watershed’s homecoming country king” (Seattle Times) Zach Top.

Fan favorite Dierks Bentley brought the heat Saturday night, kicking off his set with a medley of crowd-pleasers—including his latest single, “She Hates Me”—before launching into a career-spanning lineup of hits like “Living” and “Beers on Me.” In a surprise highlight, Next From Nashville artists The Band Loula joined Bentley on stage for a swampy rendition of the Del McCoury Band’s “Get Down On Your Knees.” He closed out the night in signature style with his ’90s alter ego, Hot Country Knights, bringing Zach Top back out for a high-energy cover of John Michael Montgomery’s “Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident).” The nostalgic throwback set delivered a fun, crowd-pleasing finale that kept the energy sky-high.

As both Friday and Saturday came to a close, fans danced the night away under the stars with late-night DJ sets from Dee Jay Silver at the Next From Nashville Stage—keeping the vibes alive well into the early hours.

Sunday closed out the weekend on a high note with more “unforgettable performances in one of the most scenic venues in the country” (All Country News) from Drew Baldridge, Jackson Dean, and Tyler Hubbard. Headliner Bailey Zimmerman brought the house down with an explosive set filled with genre-blending anthems, high-energy production, and a mix of fan favorites and new music from his forthcoming album Different Night Same Rodeo. With pyrotechnics, rolling smoke, and strobe lights, his show-stopping performance was the perfect finale—cementing the 2025 Watershed Festival as one for the books.

The weekend showcased a dynamic mix of country music’s biggest stars and rising talent. Over at the Next From Nashville Stage—known for spotlighting tomorrow’s breakout artists—fans were treated to standout performances from buzzworthy newcomers including Logan Crosby, Spencer Crandall, Karley Scott Collins, Thomas Edwards, Greylan James, Tiera Kennedy, Bryce Leatherwood, Shaylen, Lauren Watkins, The Woods, and local favorites Last Chance Band, solidifying the festival’s reputation as Washington’s premier country music event.

This September, the Surf Ballroom & Museum will unveil ‘Not Fade Away: The Immersive Surf Ballroom Experience’ – a permanent first-of-its-kind experience honoring the legacy of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson in Clear Lake, Iowa.

Opening festivities kick off on Thursday, September 4, with a book signing and special preview, leading up to the full exhibit debut and ribbon cutting on Sunday, September 7 – what would have been Buddy Holly’s 88th birthday.

Housed in the newly-completed Music Enrichment Center (MEC) adjacent to the historic Surf Ballroom, ‘Not Fade Away’ is more than an exhibit — it’s a transformative, multi-sensory journey through the birth of rock ‘n’ roll and the timeless sound that changed American music forever. Through immersive digital storytelling, historic artifacts, restored audio, and original archival materials, guests will walk in the footsteps of legends.

“Not Fade Away reflects the power of public-private partnership and our shared commitment to preserving and promoting Clear Lake’s unique place in American music history,” said Clear Lake Mayor Nelson Crabb“This project brings national attention, educational opportunity, and cultural significance to our community. It’s an investment not only in heritage, but in our future.”

“This is a moment years in the making,” said Brian Luallen, CEO of the Surf Ballroom & Museum“We’ve combined cutting-edge technology with the soul of rock ‘n’ roll to tell a story that is as moving as it is unforgettable. ‘Not Fade Away’ honors the legacy of the artists who helped define a generation—and reminds us why their music still matters today.”

Never-before-seen artifacts on display at the Surf Music Experience Center include:

  • Les Paul’s original 8-track console, which revolutionized modern recording
  • 1970 custom Gibson guitar owned and played by Les Paul
  • Les Paul’s signature groundbreaking “Paulverizer,” one of only three in existence

Celebrity musician artifacts:

  • A pair of cufflinks owned by Buddy Holly and recovered from the crash
  • Ritchie Valens original Del-Fi Gold Record for “La Bamba” and “Donna”
  • Upright bass from the final performance of Buddy Holly’s band, The Crickets

For the board of the North Iowa Cultural Center & Museum (NICCM), the nonprofit that owns and operates the Surf Ballroom, the launch is deeply personal.

“This isn’t just about music,” said Jeff Nicholas, President of NICCM’s Board of Directors“It’s about memory, emotion, and the voices that continue to echo across generations. With ‘Not Fade Away,’ we’re creating a space where history comes alive—and where our children and grandchildren can understand just how powerful one song, one show, or one moment can be.”

The experience is offered in multiple ticket tiers, including exclusive VIP packages that provide access to the Surf Ballroom, immersive gallery, and the historic Carl Fox House, once home to the Surf’s founder. Ticket prices start at $19 and group rates are available. Admission is discounted for city and Cerro Gordo county residents, as well as military veterans, seniors and kids. A full schedule of opening events will be released in the coming weeks.

Best known as the final performance site of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper, the Surf has welcomed generations of musical artists and fans since 1933. Today, it is a vibrant year-round venue that amplifies the legacy of music culture, education and performance – it’s where the music lives. The Surf is operated by the North Iowa Cultural Center & Museum, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and will expand its offerings with the new Music Experience Center (MEC), an immersive attraction, artifact exhibit and event space, opening September 2025.

18 Non-Beatles Songs That Sounds Like The Beatles

0

The Beatles’ sonic signature—melodic basslines, rich vocal harmonies, inventive chord progressions, and studio experimentation—has echoed through decades of pop and rock music. While many artists have cited them as an influence, some songs go a step further: they sound so Beatlesque they could fool even devoted fans.

Lies – The Knickerbockers conjures Beatles vibes with jangly guitars and three-way harmonies. It climbed to #20 on the U.S. pop chart and #11 in Canada in 1966.

New York Mining Disaster 1941 – Bee Gees sparked rumors of being a secret Beatles record. George Harrison once admitted buying it thinking it was the Beatles.

Mr. Blue Sky – Electric Light Orchestra glimmers with orchestral pop and buoyant bounce reminiscent of Good Day Sunshine; Jeff Lynne has openly cited Beatles influence.

Come and Get It – Badfinger was written by Paul McCartney for the band—delivering unmistakable Beatles sensibility and details.

Time Will Show the Wiser – The Merry-Go-Round shines with sunny harmonies, chiming guitar tones, and melodic phrasing that recalls early Beatles singles; released in 1967, it became a cult classic in baroque pop circles.

Laura – Billy Joel carries period charm through melodic phrasing and intimate vocal delivery, often likened to a late‑Beatles ballad

Sub‑Rosa Subway – Klaatu floats with lush harmonies and orchestration that made many think the Beatles had reunited incognito

If You Want My Love – Cheap Trick carries bright melodies and urgent harmonies echoing Beatles-era pop.

Somebody Made for Me – Emitt Rhodes radiates sunny, McCartney-esque vocals and simple songcraft that feels like a hidden Beatles gem; released in 1970 as the opening track of his self-titled debut album.

Out of Control – Miles Kane channels a Beatles ballad with piano, melancholy lyrics, and psychedelic undertones; it appeared on his 2013 album Don’t Forget Who You Are.

Girl – Davy Jones echoes Lennon’s tender balladry with bittersweet lyrics and string-backed arrangement; it was released in 1971 and charted in the UK Top 40.

September Gurls – Big Star glows with chiming guitars, rich harmonies, and power-pop craftsmanship reminiscent of Revolver-era Beatles; it was released in 1974 and later covered by The Bangles.

Sowing the Seeds of Love – Tears for Fears explodes with Sgt. Pepper-style orchestration and vocal layering; it reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1989.

Bus Stop – The Hollies features sweeping harmonies and British charm reminiscent of mid‑’60s Beatles pop craftsmanship.

A World Without Love – Peter and Gordon was penned by McCartney and knocked the Beatles’ “Can’t Buy Me Love” from the top spot in 1964.

Happy Together – The Turtles sparkles with joyful vocals and snappy snare beats that could’ve easily passed for McCartney-era songwriting.

We All Belong – Dr. Dog, which wraps nostalgic melodies and lush vocal layers mimicking early Beatles brightness.

Wonderwall – Oasis (alas famously Beatles-inspired) gets a nod from fans for melodic structure and nostalgic charm.

While The Beatles left the stage in 1970, their influence never stopped recording. These twenty songs—spanning decades and genres—don’t merely borrow Beatles trademarks; they internalize and reinterpret them in deeply musical ways. If you’ve ever longed for a “new” Beatles track, these are as close as it gets—without crossing Abbey Road.

Eat. Stretch. Breathe. The Ultimate Self-Care Guide for Musicians

Whether you’re a touring artist, a weekend gig musician, or a daily practicer, performance demands more than talent—it requires stamina, focus, and resilience. Just like athletes, musicians benefit enormously from a balanced approach to health. Nutrition, yoga, and meditation aren’t just wellness buzzwords—they’re vital tools that can help musicians sustain energy, reduce stress, and prevent injury. Here are ten key benefits of incorporating these practices into your daily routine.

1. Increased Energy and Stamina

Proper nutrition fuels long rehearsals and demanding stage performances. Consuming complex carbohydrates (like whole grains), lean protein, and hydrating well before shows can prevent energy crashes mid-set. Yoga also improves circulation, helping deliver oxygen to muscles and the brain. Musicians who adopt these habits report more consistent performance energy and fewer post-show crashes.

2. Enhanced Mental Clarity and Focus

Meditation sharpens concentration and reduces mental clutter, allowing musicians to stay present during practice and performance. Daily mindfulness sessions—even just 10 minutes—can help reduce performance anxiety and improve memory retention. Nutrition plays a role too: omega-3 fatty acids (found in walnuts and flaxseed) support brain health and attention.

3. Improved Posture and Technique

Yoga strengthens core muscles and lengthens tight areas, leading to better playing posture and reduced strain. Whether you’re holding a violin or sitting at a drum kit, alignment is everything. Regular yoga practice increases proprioception—your awareness of body position—enhancing your technique.

4. Reduced Performance Anxiety

Stage fright is common—even for seasoned professionals. Meditation helps regulate the nervous system, while yoga calms the body through breath control (pranayama). Visualization techniques, often used in meditation, can help musicians mentally rehearse performances and enter the stage with more confidence. This mental edge is a game-changer for live shows.

5. Faster Recovery After Performances

Late nights, physical exertion, and emotional highs all take a toll. Anti-inflammatory foods like leafy greens, berries, and salmon help speed up physical recovery. Gentle yoga poses, such as legs-up-the-wall or child’s pose, support lymphatic drainage and relaxation. Meditation before bed enhances sleep quality—essential for healing. Musicians who recover well perform better consistently and reduce their risk of burnout.

6. Strengthened Immune System

A strong immune system is crucial for musicians on tour or in close contact with crowds. A balanced diet rich in vitamin C, zinc, and probiotics helps prevent illness. Meditation and yoga reduce cortisol (the stress hormone), which can suppress immune function. Regular practice of these wellness habits keeps you gig-ready year-round.

7. Better Breath Control and Lung Capacity

Breath is music’s silent partner. Yoga and meditation teach diaphragmatic breathing, improving lung capacity and control—crucial for vocalists and wind players. Even string players and pianists benefit, using breath to pace phrasing and maintain calm. Integrating breathing exercises into warmups can significantly elevate musical phrasing and stage presence.

8. Greater Emotional Resilience

Musicians face constant critique, comparison, and creative highs and lows. Meditation strengthens emotional regulation by rewiring brain areas like the amygdala (which processes fear and emotion). Nutrition affects mood too: foods rich in magnesium and B-vitamins help stabilize mood swings. These practices help musicians handle the industry’s ups and downs with more grace.

9. Injury Prevention and Management

Repetitive stress injuries are common in musicians—from carpal tunnel to tendonitis. Yoga supports joint mobility, muscular balance, and overall flexibility, which help prevent overuse injuries. Combining this with anti-inflammatory nutrition (like turmeric and ginger) provides a holistic strategy for long-term physical health.

10. Sustainable Career Longevity

Longevity in music isn’t just about talent—it’s about physical and mental sustainability. Maintaining healthy routines ensures that your body and mind can keep up with the demands of a lifelong career. Balanced meals, regular yoga practice, and mindful meditation are low-cost, high-reward investments. Taking care of it guarantees more years of music-making and fewer forced breaks.

Musicians are creative athletes—and like athletes, they benefit from routines that nourish both body and mind. By integrating nutrition, yoga, and meditation into your lifestyle, you set yourself up for stronger performances, healthier habits, and a more balanced career. Start small: a morning stretch, a 5-minute breathing exercise, or swapping processed snacks for whole foods. Over time, these choices will amplify not only your music, but your wellbeing.

Kelly Clarkson’s Isolated Vocals For “Because of You”

Written when she was just 16, Kelly Clarkson’s “Because of You” turned personal pain into pop power. Rejected for her debut album, she later reworked it with Evanescence’s Ben Moody and David Hodges, and it became a global hit. The ballad earned platinum status and topped charts worldwide.
