Following the release of his acclaimed debut album A Joy So Slow At Times I Don’t Think It’s Coming, Slow Joy — the solo project of Dallas-based, New Mexican-born Chicano artist Esteban Flores — will join influential post-hardcore vets Texas Is the Reason for a run of fall tour dates in September and October. Following the Texas Is the Reason run, Slow Joy will continue on the road with rising indie/alternative band Inoha for another US tour through mid-November.
These dates mark Slow Joy’s first tour since the album’s release, and serve as a milestone moment for an artist who’s been praised for bringing a fresh emotional perspective to the alternative landscape. The tour pairing feels especially meaningful: Texas Is the Reason helped shape the sonic DNA of ’90s emo and post-hardcore, and their invitation to Slow Joy underscores Flores’s emergence as a bold new voice in that lineage.
Produced by Mike Sapone (Oso Oso, The Front Bottoms), A Joy So Slow At Times I Don’t Think It’s Coming is a sweeping and vulnerable debut, rooted in Flores’s identity and grief. With its signature mix of shoegaze textures, grunge weight, and cathartic punk edge, the record has resonated deeply, led by fan favourites like “Gruesome,” which earned spins at alternative radio and helped introduce Slow Joy to a wider national audience.
