SONS Drop Explosive New Single “I’m Tired” Ahead of Upcoming Album ‘Hallo’

0

SONS today release a brand-new track “I’m Tired” – a high-energy gut-punch for anyone who’s ever felt overwhelmed by the chaos of daily life. Raw, honest, and wildly relatable, this track taps into that universal urge to hit pause and escape. With shimmering hooks and explosive emotion, it’s the perfect teaser for their upcoming album Hallo set for release on September 26 via [PIAS] Recordings. Turn it up, hit repeat, and let it all out. You’re not alone.

About the song: “Besides enjoying life, you can also naturally experience exhaustion in all sorts of things. A song about that exhaustion that life sometimes brings and the urge to run away. The title speaks for itself and offers recognition for everyone.”

“I’m Tired” is the fourth glimpse of SONS’ third new album Hallo, following hot on the heels of “All Gold”, which was named Hotshot (Song of the Week) on Belgium’s premier radio station Studio Brussel.

With their forthcoming 3rd album Hallo the four-piece enter a new era, one in which their explosive garage rock gives way to songs that now also shine and sparkle. “Hallo” is the sound of youth unleashed. Of lives lived and experience knocking on your door. “Hello, we are SONS!”

SONS still relentlessly torment their instruments but what sets Hallo apart from previous releases is a certain joie de vivre that has crept in. By looking deeper into themselves, they have discovered that not every message needs to be accompanied by a fist on the table. A tap on the shoulder and a telling glance can sometimes be more effective.

The talisman for this fresh, musical, but still sharp and powerful sound: producer David McCracken. Also known for shaping the sexy groove of dEUS classic “The Architect”, the British producer has an impressive resume having worked with Stone Roses’ frontman Ian Brown, A$AP Rocky, Beyonce and Depeche Mode amongst others. McCracken loved the band’s new demos and made several trips to the band’s hometown of Melsele to help whip the songs into shape. The band then decamped to London to record the album.

SONS greedily feasted on the skills and knowledge McCracken brought to the fore as can be heard on the infectiously danceable first single “Do My Thing”, which amassed over 300 radio plays in Belgium, climbed to the top 5 of leading radio Studio Brussels listeners chart De Afrekening and got support in The Netherlands, Germany, France and Eastern Europe.

Working with McCracken proved to be a perfect match for SONS. “He took us completely out of our comfort zone,” says singer/guitarist Robin Borghgraef. “His way of working was very straightforward, and he constantly asked us – and certainly me as a singer – the question, ‘What do you want to say?’ That approach made us start thinking more deeply about what we wanted for this record. And, unlike previous albums, the lyrics on ‘Hello’ received much more attention. More than once, the lyric served as the foundation of a song, whereas before we took a different approach: make up riffs, figure out a song and add lyrics. This new approach added depth to the album.”

As for the subject matter on Hallo, SONS continues to find inspiration in everyday life and in the way we allow ourselves to be held hostage to hustle and bustle of things. Furious title track ‘Hello’ is about the constant accessibility and love/hate relationship with social media, where everyone follows each other blindly. “This song set the tone for the sound of the whole album”, Robin explains, “So here we say ‘Hello’ to everyone who knows us or doesn’t know us yet. Welcome to our latest record.”

Julian Casablancas + The Voidz Unleash Sci-Fi Punk Chaos on New EP ‘Megz of Ram’

0

Julian Casablancas + The Voidz release (Megz of Ram.) Produced by Chris Tabron (Beyonce, Die Antwoord, and Battles,) the EP is a four-track fever dream that dives headfirst into the band’s ever-mutating sonic multiverse.

Equal parts synth-drenched sci-fi score and post-punk punch, the project plays like a transmission from a parallel dimension, stitched together with jagged hooks and neon emotion. Julian’s unmistakable vocals snake through the chaos, animating each track and offering a warped crystal ball into the band’s next evolution.

Fittingly, it was recorded in the same East Village basement where Is This It first took shape – a full-circle seance of sound that fuses nostalgia with the present.

Earlier this year, the band delivered an electrifying performance of “Blue Demon” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (watch below), earlier this year, fueling anticipation among fans for what’s next. The band features a motley crew of larger-than-life musicians: Julian, of course, the WWE-style guitar slinger Beardo, surfer/shredder Amir Yaghami, 808-human hybrid Alex Carapetis, Jeff “Mr L.A.” Kite tickling the digital ivories, and the group’s spiritual anchor as well as online voice, bassist / synths, Jake Bercovici.

The Voidz return to Europe this summer for a string of festival dates, including a special hometown performance with IDLES at Bristol’s Block Party Festival on August 2. They’ll also appear at All Together Now in Ireland and Ypsigrock in Sicily.

Live Dates:
August 2 – Bristol, UK – IDLES’ Block Party Festival
August 3 – Waterford, Ireland – All Together Now Festival
August 9 – Sicily, Italy – Ypsigrock Festival

Pulley and Fire Sale Join Forces for ‘Split Personality’ Punk 7″ Out This September

0

Southern California skate-punk veterans Pulley and punk-rock supergroup Fire Sale have teamed up for a four-song split 7″, appropriately titled Split Personality, set for release on Friday, September 5, 2025, via Negative Progression Records. Fans can get their hands on the limited-edition vinyl when pre-orders launch on August 15, 2025.

Formed in 1994, Pulley remains one of the most influential and enduring names in melodic skate-punk. With five full-length albums on the legendary Epitaph Records, followed by two more on indie labels SBAM and Cyber Tracks, the band has amassed 50+ million streams, countless worldwide tours, and a reputation for delivering heartfelt, high-energy punk anthems that stand the test of time.

Fire Sale, a powerhouse lineup featuring former members of Face to Face, No Use For A Name, and The Ataris, has quickly carved its own path with a series of acclaimed 7″ releases, energetic live shows across Europe, Canada, and the U.S., and heavy rotation on SiriusXM Faction Punk. Split Personality marks their latest entry, pairing their relentless melodic hooks with Pulley’s classic skate-punk urgency for a must-have collector’s piece.

“Torn Apart By Time” – “As life passes by there are always distractions. Keep the commitment to how things started out and have the perseverance to stand with longevity. Make time to sit back and listen to the music.”
“Write A Note If You Leave” – “Everyone has experienced loss. This song was inspired by losing my mom but speaks to anyone who’s had to say goodbye to someone they love. I miss her, and I miss that hand-written, heartfelt communication.”
Fire Sale

“An Archaic Construct” – “The song questions the manufactured ways in which we are expected to behave.”

“Call Of The Void” – “It’s about acting on an intrusive thought-whether it’s driving into a light pole or ‘stumbling’ off a cliff in Cudahy.”

With multiple tracks already receiving early spins on SiriusXM Faction Punk, upcoming music videos premiering via BlankTV, and the combined legacy of two of punk rock’s most respected acts, Split Personality is set to be one of 2025’s essential punk vinyl releases.

Pre-order begins August 15, 2025 via Negative Progression Records here

Hot Water Music and Bane Announce Explosive Co-Headline Tour for November 2025

0

Hot Water Music and Bane have just announced its co-headline tour for late 2025. Spanning the month of November, the tour will take in nine evenings across the U.S. midwest and east coast, visiting markets such as Cleveland Heights, OH on Wednesday November 5, Chicago, IL on Thursday, November 6, Richmond, VA on Sunday, November 9, Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday, November 12, Providence, RI on Friday, November 14 and more. Tickets for all shows will go on sale this Friday, August 1 at 10 a.m. local time.

Sacrifice. Loyalty. Camaraderie. These aren’t just words, they are the qualities that have defined Hot Water Music’s songs, lyrics and ideology for the past three decades. However, instead of celebrating 30 years of existence with a nostalgia lap or formulaic album, the band decided to mark this milestone with their most ambitious collection of songs to date. Correspondingly, Vows sees the band taking their pioneering punk sound to bold new heights via inventive arrangements, pop-friendly sensibilities and a new generation of musical guests that include Brendan Yates and Daniel Fang of Turnstile, Thrice, Dallas Green of City and Colour and Alexisonfire, The Interrupters, and Popeye Vogelsang of Calling Hours and melodic hardcore greats Farside. Additionally, Hot Water Music also recently released its four-song split EP with Quicksand in late 2024. Featuring classics covered by each band from Quickand’s Slip and Hot Water Music’s No Division, the EP also features the unreleased tracks “Supercollider,” Quicksand’s first new song since 2021’s Distant Populations, and “Undertow,” a new Hot Water Music song lifted from its Brian McTernan-produced Vows sessions.

Recently, Equal Vision and Bane released the 25th anniversary edition of It All Comes Down To This, the band’s celebrated debut album. Fully remixed by Brian McTernan and entirely remastered, this new, updated collection gives this hardcore classic the justice it finally deserves. After more than 20 years and a long process of tracking down the tapes, the band finally got them transferred and into the hands of McTernan in 2023. In December 2023, the band got the first rough mix and were blown away by how good it sounded. After a few more months, McTernan turned in the final mix and it literally brought tears to the band’s eyes; Steve Austin captured the songs for that time and McTernan’s talent brought it to life and made it sound the way it was always intended to be heard.

Last month, Equal Vision also issued the digital release and vinyl pressing of Boston 6:58 PM from Bane, a collection of 7″ offerings being presented as a single release for the very first time. In 2009, the band released two EPs across the world called the Cities EPs, which were all limited releases and never released digitally. After waiting over 15 years, Bane wanted to give these a proper release and have them available everywhere, including streaming services. To some, Boston 6:58 PM will give the appearance of an entirely new album since it was not widely available.

Hot Water Music and Bane will be making the following appearances together in November. Dates below.

Lanie Gardner Named Latest SiriusXM ‘Highway Find’ Ahead of Opry Debut and New Album

0

Today, rising country artist Lanie Gardner was revealed as the latest “Highway Find” for SiriusXM’s The Highway (ch. 56). The announcement came as a surprise during her appearance on SiriusXM’s Highway Mornings with host Cody Alan, where he broke the news live on air.

Gardner joins the ranks of past “Highway Finds” like Luke Combs, Gabby Barrett, and Parker McCollum. From her viral cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” to her genre-blending debut album A Songwriter’s Diary, Gardner has quickly made a name for herself with a sound that fuses country, classic rock, and soul.

Now gearing up for the release of her sophomore album Faded Polaroids on September 5, Gardner continues her breakout year by being selected as a “2025 Artist to Watch” by the The Recording Academy/GRAMMY and embarking on her Grand Ole Opry debut on August 6. Spanning 18 tracks, her forthcoming new album follows a series of recent collaborations this summer with Thomas Rhett, Warren Zeiders, and Dorothy, and showcases her evolution as both a writer and artist.

With heartfelt lyrics, powerhouse vocals, and a clear creative vision, Lanie Gardner’s spotlight as a SiriusXM “Highway Find” marks another major milestone in her fast-rising career.

Country With a Kick: HASTING Brings Heart, Humor and ‘Truck Talk’ to the Country Music Scene

0

Born and raised on a farm in Clark County, Ohio, HASTING, stage name of songstress Kate Hasting, has all of the cow tippin’, tailgate sittin’, and dip dippin’ know-how you could want out of a rising Country Music Artist. “The farmer’s daughter with a twist,” she’s the kind of artist unafraid to take a simple, “low-hanging fruit” song idea and transform it into something unexpectedly rich and complex-like a bottle of wine…or in this case…box of wine. HASTING exemplifies this on her upcoming single “Truck Talk,” due out August 15th, ahead of several new songs and leading into her family’s annual Hasting Farm Fest on September 26th and 27th.

Hasting’s tongue-in-cheek while sincere writing style is catchy and relatable: “There’s always a lot of…how do I say it…’Truck Talk’ in country music. See what I did there?. I’ve heard people say, ‘country music has enough truck songs.’ I’d argue that I fell in love with country music for its truth telling and ability to fit a story into a three minute format. There’s nothing more exciting than authenticity. The songs I am releasing are from my vantage point and what I have lived…my childhood and adulthood is full of trucks. To me, there will never be too many truck songs. “Truck yeah!’ The past six years, I feel like I have lived a million lifetimes. There has been death, heartbreak, and recently, illness. Sometimes I think the new songs I am putting out are divine because they have been so hard to bring to life. That’s due to my own stubbornness, but also just the weight of the last few years. I am excited for ‘Truck Talk’ and the songs that follow to finally have their moment.”

She continues, “I recallI asking someone what the term ‘pillow talk’ meant and they said, ‘It’s when you say a lot of I love yous, make plans, or talk about the future in the moment while hooking up with someone. It just might be more intense or exaggerated because y’all are in bed together.’ I am paraphrasing, but I remember it being very close to that sentiment. I remember thinking…that is exactly what guys do while you are in their truck. I don’t really remember when I started thinking the term ‘Truck Talk’ was funnier than ‘Pillow Talk,’ but I have had this title in my brain for years. That weird pathway is how a lot of songs come to be for me…”

As HASTING shared in a 2020 interview with People Magazine, “What the accident did was give me a chance to be 100% me. For a long time, I tried to be the pretty girl in the sundress singing breakup songs, but the accident was this lightbulb moment telling me that life is too short… why try to be anything other than what you are?”

This turning point also marked the beginning of her journey in recovery, a theme HASTING embraces both candidly and with a healthy dose of humor. As she puts it, “Trash not trashed is the future of my music…” It’s a philosophy that infuses her songwriting and performances with both vulnerability and wit. Her fresh perspective has also inspired HASTING to take a more active role in her community and the music industry. She co-founded “Meet Music Row,” an initiative dedicated to fostering creative collaboration among up-and-coming artists and established names. And in her hometown, she hosts “HASTING FARM FEST, ” an annual celebration of music, art, and connection-proof that her roots in both music and community run deep.

From the very beginning, HASTING has been a natural on stage and off. Her quick wit and unapologetic crowd banter have earned her opening spots with artists such as Craig Morgan, Kellie Pickler, Little Big Town, and more. HASTING’s ability to connect with those around her have led to a built in following far outside the realm of country music. Now, HASTING is fully embracing the artist she was always meant to be. She’s traded in the high heels for Crocs and isn’t looking back. While she’s written for artists like Priscilla Block, Maggie Baugh, and Alli Colleen, her latest work represents her full creative expression. “One Man’s Trash” is the perfect reintroduction to an artist who is evolving, finding her voice, and making music that speaks to both the joy and the messiness of life.

“I want to laugh in this chapter,” says HASTING. “I really want to focus on the good in life and bring good to others.” And with her music, she’s doing just that-bringing a whole lot of heart, humor, and authenticity to the world.

Alt-Country Gem Kathleen Edwards Shares Two New Tracks Ahead of ‘Billionaire’ Album

0

Acclaimed singer, songwriter and performer Kathleen Edwards shares two new songs today—“Little Red Ranger” and “When the Truth Comes Out”—the latest offerings from her highly anticipated new album, Billionaire, out August 22 on Dualtone Records (pre-order). Produced by Jason Isbell and Gena Johnson, the new 10-song project recalls the lyrical sharpness and unflinching candor of Edwards’ acclaimed debut Failer.

Of “When the Truth Comes Out,” Edwards shares, “I wrote this for a good friend who had a lot of people fall out of her life in a short period of time. Watching her go through it reminded me: people have short memories, they love the safety of keeping the most famous person in the room comfortable, a false narrative is more convenient than rocking the boat. The truth isn’t always popular, but in time it’s the thing that you can hold on to when other’s backs are turned.”

Additionally, of “Little Red Ranger,” she reflects, “Part love letter to the Canadian boy who moves to LA to pursue his dreams and his heart, part holding the hand of the mom and dad wondering if their kid will decide to set down roots somewhere far away. Bird in a tree if you look away, you miss the chance to see it fly away. Life unfolds before you in real time, looking back just to see you weren’t paying attention when it was happening. This song pulls at my heart more than most songs on the record, it’s my story, it’s every parent’s story, like the follow-up to Empty Threat. Matt Sucich sang on this song before we even recorded it, and his backing vocal just sits so right with mine.”

Ahead of the release, Edwards has shared three additional tracks: “Say Goodbye, Tell No One,” “Pine” and “Save Your Soul,” which is currently top 10 and rising on the Americana Radio chart and #23 and climbing on the Triple A chart.
In celebration of Billionaire, Edwards will embark on an extensive headline tour this fall including stops at New York’s Bowery Ballroom, Boston’s Brighton Music Hall, Chicago’s Lincoln Hall, Ottawa’s Bronson Centre, Minneapolis’ Fine Line, Lexington’s The Burl, St. Louis’ Off Broadway and Milwaukee’s Vivarium among others. See below for full tour routing.

In addition to Edwards (vocals, acoustic guitar), Isbell (electric guitar, acoustic guitar, keys, synth, background vocals) and Johnson (engineer, piano, background vocals), the album includes Anna Butterss (bass), Annie Clements (bass), Chad Gamble (drums and percussion), Jen Gunderman (piano, celeste, Hammond B3 organ, Wurlizter) and Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer (background vocals).

Of the album, Edwards shares, “I decided to call the record Billionaire because the word is used in such a caustic way these days. But we should all want to be billionaires in life, to be rich in experience, friendship, purpose, and the pursuit of the things that bring us joy.”

Of working with Edwards, Johnson shares, “Kathleen is as funny as she is deep. She loves to rock, have fun and nerd out on guitar tones, which both Jason and I love to do as well. It was important to us to make sure we were featuring all the sides of her in the production of this album from tracking to final mix. She totally thrived on the energy of the full band when we were in the studio and was also open to an idea I had for the song, ‘Little Pink Door.’ That song ended up being a live one-take performance of Kathleen singing while playing acoustic guitar, accompanied by Jason on electric guitar and Jen Gunderman on piano. Both Jason and Jen were right there with her every single breath, only playing when it felt right. I remember when the take finished, Jason said he wouldn’t change a thing about it, and I couldn’t have agreed more. It’s in those moments when you know that something truly special is being made. I am so looking forward to attending a live show and experiencing both the energy and intimacy these songs and stories will bring to the audience.”

Celebrated as one of the forebears of modern alt-country and Americana music, Edwards is beloved by fans and fellow musicians, and praised by The New York Times for her, “droll, observant and unsparing tone that is all her own. In her best lines, Edwards has the conversational vernacular and emotional eloquence of a great short-story writer.”

Since debuting in 2003, Edwards has released five albums, including 2020’s Total Freedom—her first after stepping away from music for almost a decade. Released to overwhelming acclaim with pieces at The New Yorker, The New York Times, Rolling Stone and more, Pitchfork called it, “a creative breakthrough, written solely for the thrill of discovery,” while Rolling Stone declared it as, “devastatingly great.” Most recently, Edwards released a covers EP featuring special guests Isbell, Bahamas and Daniel Tashian and including renditions of Isbell’s “Traveling Alone,” Bruce Springsteen’s “Human Touch,” The Flaming Lips’ “Feeling Yourself Disintegrate,” Tom Petty’s “Crawling Back To You” and more. She has been nominated for multiple JUNO and Americana Awards and, in 2012, was awarded the SOCAN Songwriting Prize.

Alt-Funk Journeyman Kyle Hollingsworth Drops Soulful Final Single Ahead of ‘All We Are’

0

Kyle Hollingsworth has released “Waiting on Time,” the final sampling of his new album All We Are, out this Friday, August 1, 2025. “This was an organ based tune,” Hollingsworth says. “I was thinking about Greg Allman when I was writing it. Some of the imagery came from that style. The lyrics speak of the struggle with addiction and staying on track. Falling down and getting back up again.”

All We Are marks a bold new chapter in a career defined by creative risk-taking. With more than 20 years of solo work, seven solo albums, and over three decades with The String Cheese Incident, Hollingsworth continues to push boundaries, delivering a sound that’s fresh, unexpected, and uniquely his own.

“Waiting on Time” follows the release of two earlier singles: “Colorado” and “All We Are.”

“Colorado” is a song that was inspired by mountain living. “All the images come from above 9,000 feet,” reflects Hollingsworth. “From the fall colors to the sparkling snow and spring flowers, these mountains fill my spirit.”

“All We Are,” the title track to the album, is a shimmering, alt-rock-leaning single that trades extended solos for song-focused structure and lyrical introspection, yet remains undeniably funky in true Kyle fashion.  Pre-save the new album now.

Alongside the new release, Hollingsworth has teamed up with 4 Hands Brewing Company (St. Louis, MO) to craft the perfect beer pairing to complement the music. Look for the collaboration beer this fall in the Midwest near Kyle Hollingsworth Band tour dates at select retailers and taps.

In support of the new album, the Kyle Hollingsworth Band will play a number of dates throughout Colorado, the Northeast and the Midwest. Including a fun-filled album release party at Kyle’s iconic beer festival, Kyle’s Brew Fest, hosted at Wibby Brewing Co in Longmont, CO, on September 6. Stay tuned for beer collaborations, the brewery lineup, special guest musicians including Jennifer Hartswick, exciting activities and more at Kyle’s favorite event of the year. 30 Rock Drum Fills That Hit Like Thunder

Rock history is full of unforgettable moments, but nothing quite lands like a perfectly timed drum fill. Whether it’s a subtle skip across the toms or a thunderous crash into a chorus, these fills don’t just move the music forward—they make the song. Here are 30 legendary drum fills that hit like thunder, listed alphabetically by song title and paired with the powerhouse behind the kit.

“Africa” — Jeff Porcaro (Toto)
Porcaro’s fill at 1:07 is subtle but unforgettable, weaving perfectly into his famous half-time shuffle. It’s a smooth glide across the toms that makes everything feel warm, tight, and timeless.

“Aja” — Steve Gadd (Steely Dan)
Gadd delivers surgical precision on this jazz-rock masterpiece. His solo section is a feast of phrasing, ghost notes, and fluid triplets, blending jazz technique with pop sensibility.

“Black Hole Sun” — Matt Cameron (Soundgarden)
The fill going into the final chorus evolves with each repetition, building drama without losing control. It’s dynamic, fluid, and effortlessly cool—like the song itself.

“Brother to Brother” — Mark Craney (Gino Vannelli)
Part solo, part conversation with the bass, Craney trades blistering two-bar fills like it’s a sport. A jazz-fusion highlight that’s equal parts power and precision.

“Everlong” — Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters)
This fill is like a controlled explosion—tight, fast, and full of urgency. Hawkins anchors the chaos with a snare-driven moment that feels like sprinting through a storm.

“Fool in the Rain” — John Bonham (Led Zeppelin)
Bonham’s shuffle grooves hard, but the fill that breaks it wide open is pure release. It’s like a deep breath that explodes into Technicolor thunder.

“Good Times Bad Times” — John Bonham (Led Zeppelin)
Right out of the gate, Bonham shows off his famous footwork. His rapid-fire bass triplets set the tone for an album—and a career—full of jaw-dropping moments.

“Green Earrings” — Bernard Purdie (Steely Dan)
Purdie’s fills are slick, sneaky, and packed with personality. This one is a showcase of his signature offbeat swagger and subtle flash.

“Hold On Tight” — Bev Bevan (ELO)
Not just flashy—expensive. With one of the priciest music videos of the era, the fills keep pace, bold and bombastic as the synth-soaked rock rushes forward.

“In the Air Tonight” — Phil Collins (Solo)
That fill. The one you always air drum. Four toms, a mountain of reverb, and a delayed explosion that made Collins a legend. Goosebumps every time.

“Little Wing” — Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix Experience)
Mitchell dances across the kit with a jazz-infused delicacy. His fill under Hendrix’s dreamy chords adds magic without overpowering the melody.

“Lonely Ol’ Night” — Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp)
Aronoff hits hard and with purpose, and his fill into the chorus is a classic bar-band call to arms. No-nonsense power drumming at its finest.

“No One Knows” — Dave Grohl (Queens of the Stone Age)
Grohl pummels the kit with monstrous triplet fills that lock in like clockwork. It’s heavy, hypnotic, and oddly danceable—the holy trinity of desert rock.

“Pride (In the Name of Love)” — Larry Mullen Jr. (U2)
Mullen’s playing is all about restraint and feel. The tom fill here is subtle but uplifting, propelling the song’s passion without stealing its spotlight.

“Proto-Cosmos” — Tony Williams (Lifetime)
This one’s for the drummers. Williams delivers three solos in one track, but that final burst is pure fire—unleashed energy packed into blazing rolls and delicate phrasing.

“Rain Is Falling” — Bev Bevan (ELO)
Bevan’s fills echo like raindrops on chrome. Moody, melodic, and just enough drama to carry the song’s wistful tone without overstepping.

“Reelin’ In the Years” — Jim Hodder (Steely Dan)
Tight, tasteful fills that perfectly bridge verse and chorus. Hodder’s timing and tone make it easy to overlook the complexity under all that smooth guitar.

“Rosanna” — Jeff Porcaro (Toto)
Studio drumming perfection. The ghost notes, the shuffle, the fills—they all merge seamlessly. Porcaro made it sound effortless, but it’s anything but.

“Sad But True” — Lars Ulrich (Metallica)
Say what you will, but this fill is heavy and deliberate, dropping like anvils between riffs. It’s not flashy—it’s final.

“Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” — Steve Smith (Journey)
Smith’s fill into the final chorus is a stadium-sized stomp. It’s clean, melodic, and perfectly timed to make you raise your fists without even realizing it.

“She Said She Said” — Ringo Starr (The Beatles)
Classic Ringo: quirky, lyrical, and locked in. His fills feel conversational, like the drums are part of the story instead of just backing it.

“Smells Like Teen Spirit” — Dave Grohl (Nirvana)
Instant recognition. That intro fill is raw and brash—just like the song. Grohl’s snare crack is a call to arms for a new generation of disenchanted teens.

“Sober” — Danny Carey (Tool)
Carey’s playing is complex but never cluttered. The fill on “Sober” is moody and mechanical, like gears grinding into something dark and beautiful.

“Stairway to Heaven” — John Bonham (Led Zeppelin)
One fill, four seconds, endless debate. Bonham’s moment here is subtle but powerful, and somehow sounds different every time you hear it.

“Stargazer” — Cozy Powell (Rainbow)
The drum intro here is thunder on a mountain. Powell sets the tone with ferocity, and the fill explodes like a battle cry from Valhalla.

“Stratus” — Billy Cobham (Solo)
Cobham’s fill is a blur of single strokes down concert toms—controlled chaos. It’s a moment that leaves jaws on the floor and sticks in splinters.

“Sunshine of Your Love” — Ginger Baker (Cream)
More of a groove than a fill, but no less legendary. Baker’s tribal thump walks the line between jazz and psychedelia, setting the tone for Cream’s swirling madness.

“Tom Sawyer” — Neil Peart (Rush)
What is there to say? A technical masterclass that also makes you want to drive 90 in a school zone. This fill is the sound of pure adrenaline in 7/8.

“Twilight” — Bev Bevan (ELO)
Synths swirl, guitars shimmer, and Bevan’s drums fill in the gaps like thunder under starlight. Each fill lands like punctuation in a space opera.

“Wipeout” — Ron Wilson (The Surfaris)
This one’s pure joy. Wilson’s rapid-fire rolls introduced generations to the full drum kit—and gave gym teachers everywhere a go-to warmup song.

“Won’t Get Fooled Again” — Keith Moon (The Who)
Moon didn’t play solos—he erupted. The fill before the final scream is a glorious mess of flams and crashes that somehow lands in perfect time. Moon magic.

So whether you’re a drummer, an air-drummer, or just a fan of musical fireworks, these fills prove that a few well-placed hits can shake the soul. And if your steering wheel doesn’t know at least ten of these by heart, it’s time to give it a proper education.
