Blending the intimacy of folk, the rhythmic vitality of jazz, and the emotional immediacy of great songwriting, Short Stories marks a striking new chapter in Macdonald’s multifaceted career.
Known internationally for his award-winning film and choral compositions, including the cult-classic Fido soundtrack and the opera KHAOS, Macdonald returns to his roots as a performer on this self-released album. Each song reveals Macdonald’s knack for melody and his fearless blending of genres, drawing on influences as diverse as Chet Baker, Django Reinhardt, and Madeleine Peyroux.
Short Stories was recorded with Macdonald’s colleagues and friends at the Selkirk College Contemporary Music and Technology Program in Nelson, BC, where he also teaches. The collaborative spirit of the project infuses every track, creating music that feels both sophisticated and deeply personal.
