Bright Eyes Drop Surprise Single “1st World Blues” With Butter the Dog, The So So Glos & Ska-Inspired Video

Continuing what has so far been a triumphant year of touring and new music, Bright Eyes has surprise-released a new single “1st World Blues.” The song, which makes a case for a fourth wave of ska, sees frontman Conor Oberst lamenting the current state of the world with its biting takedown of contemporary American capitalism, propelled by gang vocals and an infectious off-beat rhythm.

“1st World Blues” introduces a new sonic dimension from Bright Eyes and comes with a music video directed by Jared Sherbert, with animations by Sparks Studios. The video, which was shot on a hot summer day in Brooklyn, NY, features familiar faces like pro skater Nelly Morville, The So So Glos and producer/musician/mixer Adam Reich, while introducing a new star-in-the-making: Butter the dog.

“‘1st World Blues’ is an homage to ska in all its waves,” says Bright Eyes. “From Desmond Decker to Tim Armstrong, we’re just happy to add our track to the bin. The video is inspired by NYC 90s hip hop, which like ska, has a long tradition of unifying people & using celebratory music to convey subversive political themes. To be played loud. Windows down. Summertime.”

Bright Eyes’ high-octane, coast-to-coast North American tour will pick up again on August 26 in Ojai, CA, before heading to Vancouver and then Seattle for Bumbershoot Festival. In November, the band will head to Asia for rare performances in Singapore, Osaka and Tokyo.

In May, the trio celebrated the 25th anniversary of their beloved 2000 album Fevers & Mirrors with a powerful new recording of the album’s plaintive closing track “A Song To Pass The Time”, available exclusively on Bandcamp. Bright Eyes also teamed up with longtime friends and collaborators Cursive to release “Recluse I Don’t Have to Love,” a mashup of their modern classic fan favorites “Lover I Don’t Have To Love” (by Bright Eyes) and “The Recluse” (by Cursive). The mashup was released on National Trans Day of Visibility, with all profits going to The Poison Oak Project.

Metallica Expands Scholars Initiative With $3M Grant To 15 New Colleges

All Within My Hands (AWMH), the non-profit, philanthropic organization created by the members and management of Metallica, proudly announces Year 7 of its Metallica Scholars Initiative (MSI) with its largest grant to date, totaling approximately $3M. Fifteen new schools will join our MSI community in the fall, with each new school receiving $75,000 to enhance the student experience within career and technical education programs. The Metallica Scholars Initiative now has a presence in 75 colleges across all 50 United States and the territory of Guam, and is expected to reach approximately 10,000 students. AWMH continues to work closely with its long-time partner, the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), on the Initiative.

Launched in 2019 by All Within My Hands in partnership with the American Association of Community Colleges, MSI began with 10 colleges focused primarily on Manufacturing programs. The workforce initiative has since expanded to offer opportunities in diverse fields for students interested in gaining the skills and training necessary to establish meaningful careers that provide family-sustaining wages. Additional curricula in Year 7 include Air Traffic Control, Agricultural Technologies, Fire Technologies, and AI, coupled with conventional trades such as Construction, Welding, Commercial Driving Licensing, and Advanced Manufacturing. To date, AWMH has invested over $13.5M in the American workforce.

To evaluate the program’s efficacy, the University of Southern California (USC) Sol Price School of Public Policy independently researched and quantified MSI’s impact on the skilled trades and the return on investment (ROI) earlier this year. The research extended into all Year 6 community colleges, covering more than 350 fields of study at these institutions, measuring the cost of completion and anticipated salaries post-graduation. The key observation is that the ROI – the ratio of a program’s cost to anticipated median wage – across all MSI-supported programs is a very high and cost-efficient 8.3X. This means that on average, MSI graduates can expect to earn 8.3X the upfront cost of their program during their first year in the workforce. Additionally, the research identified some of the fastest-growing and highest-paying fields of study that Metallica Scholars can pursue to achieve lucrative careers in the trades. Among the former are Information Security Analysts, Software Developers, and Occupational Therapy Assistants, while the latter includes Robotics and Mechatronics, Dental Hygienists, and Air Traffic Controllers.

“2025 is a watershed moment for the Metallica Scholars Initiative,” stated Peter Delgrosso, Executive Director, All Within My Hands. “With the addition of 15 new schools this fall and USC’s independent research articulating the strength of our results, we are eager to tackle the quantifiable shortage of skilled labor our nation faces. If we extrapolate these ROI numbers over a career, it demonstrates how effective and profitable learning a trade can be for the individual, and how society as a whole also benefits from community college graduates. This insight will profoundly affect MSI going forward, impacting how people view careers in the trades, encouraging more corporate and individual sponsorship, and driving its advancement across the country. We’re thrilled to incorporate these findings into this year’s planning and expansion.”

Year 7 also marks the renewal of our partnership with the Lowe’s Foundation, which has provided $1 million in support as part of its five-year, $50 million commitment to prepare 50,000 people for skilled trades careers.

Kodak Black releases his new single “By Myself” featuring South Florida risers DJ E Money and G6reddot. The booming cut samples the iconic strings from Fabolous’ 2007 Timbaland-produced hit, “Make Me Better (feat. NE-YO),” and leans into the idea that teamwork makes dreams work.

“By Myself” mixes solemn orchestration with trap drums and big bass, while Kodak lays down a bluesy, slyly catchy melody for the hook: “I could do this by myself, but I prefer if we were together / You know I don’t really need no help, but it’d be nice if you helped me help you.” DJ E Money drops a slick verse and G6reddot lets loose his trademark gruff delivery – making clear that the track is as much about working together as it is a warning to any who’d betray the team. Kodak drives the point home with homespun wisdom in his closing verse: “We bust down at the table / You don’t go in your room with your plate.”

The “By Myself” video brings the concept to life, finding the three rappers taking over a small bar and celebrating across scenes involving cards, liquor, women, and so much cash that Kodak has to sweep it up with a pushbroom. In separate spaces, a pop-locking conductor leads a small orchestra, and Kodak is seen bringing roses to an overgrown cemetery. Recently Kodak received the key to the city in his home of Pompano Beach. Vandelux Announces New Album CLOSER Out Oct 10, Shares “Swimming in the Dark” Featuring His Daughter’s Heartbeat

Multi-instrumentalist, producer, and vocalist Vandelux released his next single, “Swimming in the Dark,” and today announces his new LP, CLOSER, out on October 10, 2025.

The new track has the signature Vandelux beats with lyrics delving into maturity. Vandelux says, “Swimming in the Dark” is a track I wrote a day after we saw our daughter on the ultrasound for the first time. I sampled her heartbeat from the ultrasound doppler and worked it into the foundation of the song. This is probably the most important song of the album to me.. kinda represents a key transition point from previous life to current.”

The video feels like a fever dream where the protagonist is overwhelmed by a new phase of his life and almost drowns before realizing that he has to step up and take on a new persona as he moves into maturity.

With the release of this powerful song, Vandelux is releasing the full LP, CLOSER in October, an 11 song set that was produced and recorded by Vandelux in his San Francisco home studio and mixed/mastered by Mixing Engineer, Kyle Mangels and Mastering Engineer Kristian Montano in Toronto.

Songs include previously released singles, Best Of My Love (feat. Zak Abel), Last Train, I Want You and Swimming in the Dark.

The Vancouver-born vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer a.k.a. Evan White utilizes music as a means to convey feeling and truth. His songs draw his innermost thoughts into the light. After gathering hundreds of millions of streams and performing to packed crowds worldwide, this emotionality underscores the artistry of this second full-length offering.

“I’m not a great communicator in general, so music is a pathway for me to get my feelings out,” he states. “The album is definitely an expression of how I’ve felt over the past couple of years. It’s authentic to who I am and what I want to sound like now.”

Triple Tigers Records recording artist, Shane Profitt, has the second most-added song at Country radio this week with his debut radio single with Triple Tigers Records, “Long Live Country,” with 49 new stations (55 stations historically). The anthemic track resonates with down-home lyrics celebrating the simple life, delivered in Profitt’s booming, soulful voice.
