Hatebreed Revives Summer Slaughter Tour for 2025, Championing Heavy Music’s Next Wave

0

Hatebreed proudly announces it is resurrecting the beloved and annual Summer Slaughter tour for 2025, on now and runs through July 28 in Grand Rapids.

The Summer Slaughter brand built its reputation as a breeding ground for new talent and to showcase up and coming heavy bands, alongside established headliners. Hatebreed singer Jamey Jasta is breathing new life into this legacy brand and will continue the long-held tradition of giving a live platform to the absolute best up ‘n’ comers in the scene.

Support for this year’s run will include Fugitive, Gridiron, Malevolence, Incite, Escuela Grind, and Snuffed on Sight on select dates. So the Summer Slaughter mission is clear: The best of the best.

“A new era of Summer Slaughter has begun,” states Jamey Jasta. “Huge thanks to Ash and the Sumerian team for their belief and support. Myself and Sound Talent Group are excited to be working with them going forward and taking the tour worldwide. It’s been years since Hatebreed has done a Summer tour in the U.S. and Summer Slaughter is the perfect return for us. The tour has always catapulted the newest and brightest talent to new heights and we’ll be continuing in that tradition while expanding in size and scope. Let the slaughter begin AGAIN!”

“I’ve always wanted Hatebreed to headline Summer Slaughter since the inception of the tour many years ago,” says tour founder and Sumerian Records’ Ash Avildsen. “Jasta and the band have always curated and built community across different sub-genres in the world of heavy underground music like very few others have been able to. I am thrilled it’s finally happening on Slaughter with Hatebreed at the top. Now is the time!”

5 Surprising Facts About The Kinks’ ‘The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society’

0

Before The Village Green Preservation Society, the Kinks were pop hitmakers. After it? Cult heroes. Released in November 1968—the same day as the Beatles’ White Album—this oddball, orchestral album about tea, nostalgia, and flying cats didn’t chart. But oh, how it grew. With its delicate English charm and obsession with memory, Village Green is now hailed as one of the greatest British albums ever made. Ray Davies imagined a world where steam trains still puffed and people still said “cheerio,” and somehow made it sound cool.

Here are five delightful and little-known facts about this eccentric gem:

1. A radio drama about quirky villagers inspired the whole thing
Ray Davies found his muse in Dylan Thomas’s 1954 radio play Under Milk Wood, which followed the eccentric residents of a Welsh village over one day. The idea of weaving character sketches into one big portrait of a town stuck with him. Instead of villagers like Polly Garter and Captain Cat, Ray gave us Johnny Thunder and Wicked Annabella. Think of Village Green as an audio postcard from a place where nothing changes—except the memories.

2. Nicky Hopkins played nearly every keyboard—but got no credit
Pianist extraordinaire Nicky Hopkins was the secret sauce of the Kinks’ late ’60s sound, contributing everything from Mellotron flutes to harpsichord trills. On Village Green, he plays a staggering array of instruments, adding baroque elegance to songs like “Village Green” and “Phenomenal Cat.” But in true Kinks fashion, the official credits gave all the keyboard glory to Ray Davies. Hopkins later joked he played 70% of it—quietly brilliant as always.

3. “Phenomenal Cat” is a psychedelic bedtime story about a flying cat
Ever wanted to know the meaning of life… from a cat? “Phenomenal Cat” tells the tale of a feline who flies to Katmandu, finds enlightenment, and decides to chill and eat forever. Dave Davies voices the cat with a sped-up vocal, giving it a surreal, dreamy quality. Add in Mellotron flutes and nursery-rhyme whimsy, and you get one of the most quietly trippy songs of the ’60s.

4. Ray wrote “Big Sky” from a hotel balcony in Cannes
While attending the MIDEM music industry conference in France, Ray stood on a balcony at sunrise, looked down at a sea of businessmen, and looked up at the sky. Thus was born “Big Sky,” a song about a silent, towering force that watches people struggle and shrugs. It’s been interpreted as a song about God, capitalism, or just weather. Either way, it’s the most philosophical moment ever born from jet lag and a view.

5. It was released the same day as the Beatles’ White Album—and got flattened
November 22, 1968: The Village Green Preservation Society hit the shelves… just as the Beatles dropped their 30-track monster of an album. Guess which one dominated headlines? With no hit single and little promo, the Kinks’ quiet masterpiece got lost in the shuffle. But over time, it became their best-selling UK album—and earned its place as a national treasure in vinyl form.

The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society wasn’t made to storm the charts—it was made to preserve the past, one barbershop harmony at a time. And somehow, it ended up preserving the band’s legacy too.

Tom Odell Announces New Album ‘A Wonderful Life’ and Expands Global Tour

0

Global star and award-winning singer-songwriter Tom Odell sets his new album, A Wonderful Life, for September 5—pre-save HERE. He also today shares a new song from the album, “Don’t Cry, Put Your Head On My Shoulder”—listen HERE.

Odell spent nine months fine-tuning lyrics for the album, on tour buses and trains, away from the stable home life he’d created. “I labored over every line,” says Odell. “I went in on those words every day, just refining and refining and refining. I can be a bit obsessive, and the obsessive part of me is probably the worst part of me and the bit that I would pay so much money for a therapist to tell me how to lose. But it’s also the bit that does not give up on songs.”

He will share songs from the album with fans on his headline European arena tour this fall. Dates include stops at London’s O2 Arena, Paris’ Accor Arena, Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome, Berlin’s Uber Arena and more. Odell is currently on the road with Billie Eilish for select European arena dates of the sold-out Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour and will support The Lumineers this summer for select U.S. arena dates of the Automatic World Tour. Ahead of his headline arena dates, Odell will also embark on a special run of intimate shows across the U.S. and Canada. These club performances provide fans a unique chance to see him in the smallest rooms he’s played in years. Purchase tickets at tomodell.com and see below for a complete list of dates.

A Wonderful Life was written partly as a reaction to the news cycle and “the sense, almost every week, that the world is ending in some capacity—which it is, for some people.” Odell’s lyrics channel the despair, frustration and helplessness in the modern world.

He recorded A Wonderful Life in Church Studios, HOXA and RAK Studios’ legendary Room One, the space that birthed classic albums from Radiohead, The Pogues, Ultravox and more. Odell and his band recorded everything live with the instruments “bleeding in on one another” for a more authentic sound.

His emotionally charged songs detailing love, heartbreak and self-reflection continue to receive critical acclaim, winning the prestigious BRIT and Ivor Novello Awards and garnering praise from The Guardian, The Telegraph, Rolling Stone, The Evening Standard, The Observer, among others.

Tom Odell is a renowned British singer and songwriter whose love for music can be traced back to grade school, pivoting from songwriter to singer in his band when they couldn’t hold down a frontman. After studying music in college, he embarked on a decade-long career in which his soul-baring projects have topped charts and won accolades worldwide.

Though Odell first came to prominence as a chart-topping artist, it’s never been mainstream success that fuels him. “I never applied to the role of pop star, and I always felt like I was being perceived in the wrong way,” he reflects. As he’s committed further to his own vision—crafting intensely personal songs dealing with mental health struggles, body image issues and beyond—he’s seen the connections spread across the globe. “It alleviates some of the loneliness of existing,” he suggests of why his music has resonated so strongly, “which is what we’re all going through, together.”

Odell has amassed a rabid following, with multiple headline world tours, 31 million monthly listeners on Spotify and over 14 billion career streams. His sixth album Black Friday reached number five on Spotify’s Top Album Debut Global Chart and the haunting title track has earned over 700 million combined streams since its late-2023 release. Fans also re-discovered his first ever single, 2012’s “Another Love,” which has become an anthem on TikTok to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine and soared to over four billion plays on Spotify alone. With more imminent from Odell, he continues to push boundaries and unite people through his art.

Brent Cobb & The Fixin’s Release Ain’t Rocked in a While, Announce U.S. Tour Including Nashville Pop-Up and Fall Headline Dates

0

Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and musician Brent Cobb and his band The Fixin’s release their anticipated new album, Ain’t Rocked in a While, today via Ol’ Buddy Records/Thirty Tigers. Steam/purchase HERE.

Produced by Cobb and Oran ThorntonAin’t Rocked in a While captures the electric energy of Cobb’s live shows, while still keeping his signature storytelling at the forefront. Recorded live to tape at The Black Palace in Springfield, MO, the album finds Cobb returning to his roots, as he blends his timeless country sound with influences from classic rock. Alongside today’s release, a new lyric video for “Bad Feelin’” is also out now—watch HERE.

In celebration of the new album, Cobb & The Fixin’s will perform a special pop-up album release show at Nashville’s The Blue Room on July 15 in addition to an extensive headline tour through this fall. Upcoming stops include New York’s Bowery Ballroom, Los Angeles’ Troubadour, Chicago’s Joe’s on Weed St., Washington, D.C.’s The Hamilton, Tucson’s Club Congress and Portland’s Aladdin Theater, among many others. See below for complete itinerary. Full details can be found at www.brentcobbmusic.com/tour.

Reflecting on the project, Cobb shares, “I feel like sometimes when people come to our shows, there might be a disconnect. People might view me as just a singer-songwriter. You know, sit down and tell ‘em a nice, little Southern story. Sing ‘em a song. And our live show kinda rocks. Sometimes people are taken aback. I want people to have an album of reference.”

In addition to Cobb (vocals, guitar), The Fixin’s are Len Clark (drums), Matt McDaniel (guitars) and Josh Williams (bass).

Based in Ellaville, GA, Cobb has released five albums to date including 2023’s acclaimed record, Southern Star—a love-letter to his southern roots, filled with the sounds and stories of his home state of Georgia. Of the record, Rolling Stone declared, “Few artists embody the South quite like Brent Cobb…he summons the easygoing vibes and sounds of his native Georgia,” while No Depression praised, “A true songwriting craftsman with a disarming drawl and plainspoken lyricism, Cobb’s music often feels like it exudes a sense of authenticity and tradition.”

In addition to his work as an artist, Cobb is an esteemed songwriter with cuts by Luke Combs, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Riley Green, Little Big Town, Hailey Whitters, Whiskey Myers and many more. Additionally, his song, “Snakebite,” was featured in the first season of Paramount’s “Landman” this past fall, and he released his first children’s book, Little Stuff, in 2021, which was written as a reflection on what’s truly important in life and was inspired by Cobb’s song of the same name from his album, Keep ‘Em On They Toes.

Stereophonics Announce Fall U.S. Tour Dates, New Album ‘Make ’em Laugh, Make ’em Cry, Make ’em Wait’ Out Now

0

Following their largely sold-out North American run earlier this year, legendary U.K. band Stereophonics will return to the U.S. for additional headline dates this Fall.

The shows kick off on September 20 in Nashville, with stops in Austin, Dallas, San Diego, plus performances at Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta and Ohana Festival in Dana Point.

Their new album, Make ‘em Laugh, Make ‘em Cry, Make ‘em Wait, was just released via EMI to extensive critical praise. Listen HERE.

Leading up to the album’s release, the band shared “Seems Like You Don’t Know Me” and “There’s Always Gonna Be Something” from the LP.

Written and recorded in London, Make ‘em Laugh, Make ‘em Cry, Make ‘em Wait marks the band’s highly anticipated return with an eight record LP. As with previous album artwork, Kelly Jones has gravitated towards different art forms to influence the project’s aesthetic, whether that be paintings, books or films.

“I went to New York, I visited some galleries, I saw ‘ART IS A GUARANTY OF SANITY’, a painting by Louise Bourgeois,” says Jones, “She believed art was a form of mental healing and a way to process difficult emotions. The spelling caught me first, then the simplicity of the words etched onto a pink tile. So I tried scratching my title, inspired by my own art school teacher thirty years ago. And I loved it. I loved the simplicity of the pink. The pink album was born.”

Stereophonics has cemented their position as one of our most enduring and loved bands with 1.5B+ in worldwide streams, 10M+ in U.K. album sales, eight #1 albums, 12 “Top 10 albums” and 10 “Top 10 Singles”. They have earned their status and respect amongst their fans, peers and artists from across the musical generations, ranging from Bob Dylan to David Bowie to Dua Lipa. Their knack for blending rock sensibilities with soaring melodies keeps their sound vital, while Kelly Jones’ ever-introspective lyrics continue to resonate with each passing year.

Flume and JPEGMAFIA Drop Surprise Collab EP We Live In A Society Featuring Ravyn Lenae

0

Following last week’s mind-bending “Track 1” video, Flume and JPEGMAFIA confirm the release of a new collaborative EP, We Live In A Society, out now. The EP features three additional new songs including “Is It Real” with Ravyn Lenae.

Longtime friends, having collaborated on “How To Build A Relationship” from Flume’s much-lauded 2019 mixtape Hi This Is Flume and “New Black History” from JPEG’s 2024 LP I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU, Flume and JPEGMAFIA got in the studio last year and laid down “Track 1” in one of their first takes.

Soon after, they recruited Ravyn Lenae to join them on “Is It Real” ahead of her track “Love Me Not” becoming the biggest single of her career to date, surpassing 1 billion streams worldwide.

We Live In A Society is Grammy-winning artist, producer and songwriter Flume’s first release since 2023, when he dropped two back-to-back mixtapes of previously unreleased material from throughout his career. He’s spent the time since mostly out of public view.

Flume exploded into global consciousness in 2011 when his early release “Sleepless” captivated Australia and quickly spread around the world. Since then, he’s released three widely acclaimed studio albums, three cult favorite mixtapes and a handful of EPs, and won countless accolades including 13 Arias, two Triple J Hottest 100 #1s and a Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album. He is a global headliner who has played lineup-topping sets at festivals worldwide including Coachella, Lollapalooza, Osheaga, Outside Lands, Japan’s Summersonic, Italy’s C2C and many more.

JPEGMAFIA (Barrington Hendricks, “Peggy”) is a multi-talented experimental rapper, producer, performer and leader in the experimental rap scene. He has released several critically acclaimed and prolific projects including Veteran (2018), All My Heroes Are Cornballs (2019), and (OFFLINE! 2021). He has sold-out headline tours globally and shared stages with artists including Playboi Carti, Gorillaz, Vince Staples, Ty Dolla $ign, Omar Apollo, Turnstile, Tinashe and Channel Tres, and made festival appearances at Coachella, Primavera Sound, Lollapalooza, Governors Ball, Listen Out and many more.

Following the success of his debut album Late Bloomer and his follow up single The Wildcat, Jack Rush returns with a new single entitled “Burn Baby Burn” for Rattler Records just in time to ignite a hot, hot summer. In “Burn Baby Burn” Rush paints a sizzling portrait of hot love, made memorable with the fiery refrain “I’m hot like a wire, so burn baby burn” – see full lyrics on page 2. The track oozes sensuality and desire, an irresistible earworm from start to finish.

Produced by Neihardt (Davide Joerg), “Burn Baby Burn” is a shimmering melodic indie rocker blending vintage and contemporary sounds and showcasing Rush’s one-man mission to make guitar solos cool again, while his distinct vocals are highly charged with his characteristic emotional flare. This marks his second follow up release since the acclaimed album debut and once again showcases a high-energy side of his artistry.

Jack Rush, a late but surprising revelation on the music scene, once again confirms his talent and originality. With “Burn Baby Burn”, he embraces a melodic and engaging rock sound, masterfully mixing vintage and contemporary sounds. His style remains unique: at times serious, at times ironic, but always incisive and authentic.
