Joe Satriani and Steve Vai Unleash Supergroup SATCHVAI Band with Kenny Aronoff, Marco Mendoza, and Pete Thorn

0

Joe Satriani and Steve Vai have joined forces to create the SATCHVAI Band. Today, we are excited to introduce the full band line-up: powerhouse drummer Kenny Aronoff, renowned bassist Marco Mendoza, and virtuoso guitarist Pete Thorn complete the stellar quintet that is SATCHVAI Band.

“Finding the right musicians for the SatchVai Band was at first a daunting task, then, an exciting one; there are so many great musicians to choose from!” says Satriani. “It’s no secret that the chemistry between players will always be the thing that makes them a magical live band, and we’ve found that chemistry with Kenny, Marco, and Pete. The upcoming shows will focus on not only our respective solo works, but also the music from our new album. We are so excited to get this show on the road and celebrate it with all of our fans!”

As Vai explains, “When considering forming one band around myself and Joe we talked about the qualities needed for each position, bass, drums, rhythm guitar. It was a surprising challenge to find the right fits.”

Drummer Kenny Aronoff is no stranger to Satriani fans. He has toured alongside Joe as part of the Chickenfoot band, joined on Satriani solo tours since 2019, played on The Elephant of Mars album, and most recently stepped in for Jason Bonham on the Best of All Worlds tour with Satriani, Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony.

“What can I say about the legendary Kenny Aronoff that I haven’t said before?” asks Satriani. No other drummer has the sound, feel, time, groove, and swagger like Kenny. He’s an exceptional human being too. He’s supernatural!”

“Kenny is the quintessential rock drummer,” said Vai. “His time is bullet-proof, his tone is fat and clean, and his ability to respond in an improvisational setting is instant. Besides that, he’s one of the easiest and most fun guys to tour with-an essential quality on the road.”

When it came to adding a rhythm guitarist and bass player, the duo was challenged to find the right combo. Vai had been aware of Pete Thorn for quite a while and knew he was perfect for their band. As Vai explains, “Pete’s playing is rock solid with a huge tone in his fingers. His rhythm playing is tight and in tune in a way that’s rare, and his intonation is stunning. He’s the perfect musician for this band, and we couldn’t be happier to have him.”

Satriani agrees, “Pete is an all-around monster guitarist. He has that rare ability to shine on rhythm and lead guitar, switching back and forth with finesse. He’s got the technical abilities and the rock ‘n’ roll attitude Steve, and I were hoping to find for our band.”

Then came the choice for bassist, again Vai says of the addition of Marco Mendoza, “Marco is a bass phenomenon. With his 6-string fretless, his bass sings with perfect intonation and swooning vibrato. His wide, rich tone and masterful control of dynamics will bring a new dimension to our songs.”

With Satriani echoing, “Marco’s musicianship is boundless. He’s got a special magic to his bass playing; it’s both foundational and out front at the same time. Together with his exceptional singing voice and stage presence, he will be a driving force in our band.”

“I’ve been performing and recording music with Joe Satriani since 2012 (Chickenfoot, Sammy Hagar, G3 and Joe’s band) and have performed live with Steve Vai, but the next level is RIGHT NOW because I am joining the SATCHVAI band for a two-month tour this summer in Europe. I am pumped, excited and ready to kick ass!” – Kenny Aronoff

“It sounds like something out of a mad fantastical dream that the 14-year-old guitar-obsessed me would have had….’Joe Satriani and Steve Vai called, they want you to join their new band!’ And then I’d wake up and go to 9th grade math class! But it’s real! It’s a mind-blowing opportunity, and yet I also feel like I’ve arrived exactly where I’ve always wanted to be. I’m beyond excited to be of musical service to these legends, and to rock out!” – Pete Thorn

“I have to say that getting invited to be part of a great project like this is monumental for me personally! I know it’s going to be something very special, and I can’t wait to get it started.” – Marco Mendoza

The SATCHVAI Band tour will kick off on June 13, 2025, and feature stops in major cities like London, Paris, Copenhagen, and Amsterdam, and will also include performances at major European summer festivals including Hellfest, Umbria Jazz Festival and Guitares en Scene Fest. The tour is set to conclude in late July, with more dates to be announced soon.

Celebrating nearly five decades of musical friendship, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai made their first musical collaboration debut in March 2024. “The Sea of Emotion, Pt. 1” showcases the unmatched synergy between these two legendary guitarists as they seamlessly trade solo sections throughout the nearly six-minute opus. Their second collaboration is set to be released just before the European tour, adding even more anticipation for this epic run.

Bree Taylor Ignites Country Music with Fiery New Single “Wake Up!”

0

Bree Taylor has quietly but steadily built a reputation as one of country music’s most compelling new voices—an artist whose work cuts through the genre’s conventions with a blend of grit, honesty, and rock-infused energy. This summer, Bree made her landmark Nashville debut at the CMA Fest Spotlight Stage earlier this month, marking a major career moment and expanding her growing audience south of the border. Her latest single, “Wake Up!,” out now, further solidifies her place as a force to be reckoned with, and with over 2 million streams across digital platforms, the momentum behind her career is gathering real steam.

“Wake Up!” is a sharp, high-octane track that blends punk-rock attitude with country storytelling. Its lyrics, including the evocative line “Saw you kiss her on a Tuesday / But you call me on the daily,” confront the rawness of unreciprocated love with a frankness that feels both personal and universal. Bree’s commanding vocal delivery cuts through the song’s driving instrumentation, making it clear this is your new breakup anthem and a call to recognize what’s right in front of you before it slips away.

Co-written with Alex Seier and Kelly McKay, the song emerged quickly, capturing a real-time emotional urgency. Bree has said she wanted to craft a song with an edge reminiscent of Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me,” but infused with her own unmistakable bite. The result is a vibrant, energetic anthem perfectly timed for the summer season and for Bree’s ongoing rise.

The single builds on the foundation laid by her breakthrough track, “Standing Still,” which garnered significant recognition including a spot in CBC Searchlight’s Elite Top 50 and finalist placements in the Unsigned Only and International Songwriting competitions. Her raw vocal power and candid songwriting also earned her the Established Vocalist MARTY Award from the Mississauga Arts Council—a nod to both her artistry and her growing influence.

Bree’s music reflects a lineage that spans from the storytelling traditions of Carrie Underwood to the rebellious spirit of Joan Jett. Her sound embodies a genre-defying spirit, pairing country’s emotional directness with the raw power of rock ’n’ roll. Her journey, marked by overcoming a hearing impairment, informs the authenticity and resilience that resonate throughout her work.

This summer, Bree takes her music live at notable festivals including the Living Skies Music Festival, Barrie’s Kempenfest, Winona Peach Festival, and return to the CNE Country Stage by popular demand. With her band, The Dauntless, Bree is poised to bring the energy and emotion of “Wake Up!” to audiences across North America.

With “Wake Up!” Bree Taylor’s voice is becoming impossible to ignore, carrying with it a promise of bold artistry and unflinching storytelling. She is charging forward with a sound and story all her own— and ‘Wake Up!’ is her boldest statement yet. Her debut full-length album is set for release on October 10, 2025.

Honeybear, The Band Drops Blues Revival Debut ‘I Was Wrong’

0

Honeybear, The Band, steps into the spotlight with a compelling self-titled album that speaks the language of blues with sincerity and vigor. Fronted by the charismatic Ian Beaty on vocals and bass, with Colin Brumelle’s guitar cutting through the mix, Mike Kenney’s keyboards coloring the soundscape, and Tim Watson’s steady drumming locking the groove, Honeybear offers a refreshingly honest blues experience for today’s listeners.

From the first note of their single “I Was Wrong,” it’s clear Vancouver-based Honeybear is not retreading old ground but charting a new course. The song’s lyrics — penned by Beaty and Brumelle — evoke the universal journey of reflection and growth, balancing vulnerability and strength with a bluesy authenticity that is both timeless and immediate. “There were times when I was wrong / And I didn’t know it / There were times when I was wrong / And it knew it well,” Ian sings, with a voice that carries the weight of hard lessons learned and the grace of acceptance.

Produced by Jeff Zipp and released on their own Playmor label, the album showcases the band’s tight interplay and dynamic range. The music moves effortlessly between heartfelt balladry and upbeat grooves, with a sound rooted in classic blues tradition yet unafraid to embrace contemporary nuances. Honeybear invites listeners into a world where each song is a story, a confession, and a celebration.

The band’s Vancouver roots run deep, and their live shows are a testament to their commitment to connection and authenticity. Whether playing the intimate corners of local venues or larger festivals, Honeybear’s energy is palpable, and their musicianship impeccable. Their sound bridges generations, inviting longtime blues aficionados and new fans alike to rediscover the power of the genre.

“I Was Wrong,” the lead single set for release on June 20, 2025, is already generating buzz on Spotify, SoundCloud, and YouTube, capturing attention with its raw emotion and catchy melodic hooks. The song’s lyrical honesty resonates widely, reminding listeners of the redemptive power of owning one’s mistakes and moving forward.

The band describes their creative process as deeply collaborative. “We write what we live,” says Ian Beaty. “Our songs come from real experiences, moments that stick with you — the kind of stories that belong in the blues.” Colin Brumelle adds, “We want the music to feel alive, something that makes people feel they’re part of the story.”

Honeybear’s lineup reads like a blueprint for success in modern blues: Ian Beaty’s soulful vocals and commanding bass; Colin Brumelle’s expressive guitar work; Mike Kenney’s rich keyboard textures; and Tim Watson’s solid, tasteful drumming. Together, they create a sound that is robust and nuanced, commanding attention without overpowering.

Following a record-setting year in 2024 with 75,000 fans in attendance, and four consecutive years of sellouts, 2025 marks the biggest year yet for Inkcarceration.

Friday night at Inkcarceration will feature headliner Falling In Reverse, along with Knocked Loose and Beartooth; Saturday will be headlined by Slipknot, supported by Marilyn Manson and Slaughter To Prevail; and Five Finger Death Punch will headline Sunday, joined by Three Days Grace (with Adam Gontier) and Lamb of God.

Clown of Slipknot said, “Slipknot is playing very few shows in the U.S. this year, so this will be special. It will be good to be back with our friends, family, and culture at the Inkcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival. Stay safe! Stay (sic)!”

Ronnie Radke of Falling In Reverse said, “I am honored to play side by side with legends like Slipknot, a band that I grew up listening to. See you soon, Ohio!!!”

“The fan experience at Inkcarceration is the top priority every year,” added Dan Janssen, Co-Founder and GM of Inkcarceration. “We did a lot of work on the infrastructure after last year’s event, such as adding space, more shade and a larger viewing area, an expansion that was imperative as this festival continues to grow. We could not be more excited to unveil it to the fans in 2025.”

While festival co-producers Danny Wimmer Presents have unveiled some of the Inkcarceration 2025 bands in recent weeks, the full music lineup–including several reunions and rare performances–is as follows for the 7th year of America’s Rock, Metal and Tattoo Festival: Slipknot, Falling In Reverse, Five Finger Death Punch, Three Days Grace (with Adam Gontier), Marilyn Manson, Beartooth, Knocked Loose, Lamb of God, Parkway Drive, I Prevail, In This Moment, Slaughter To Prevail, Acid Bath, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Architects, Chiodos, Killswitch Engage, Dayseeker, Bilmuri, Kublai Khan TX, Crossfade, August Burns Red, We Came As Romans, The Amity Affliction, DRAIN, Kittie, The Devil Wears Prada, The Plot In You, Attila, Drowning Pool, Snot, Sleep Theory, Emmure, Alpha Wolf, Currents, Spite, Bodysnatcher, Carnifex, Suffocation, Catch Your Breath, The Union Underground, Dry Kill Logic, Taproot, Crystal Lake, Signs of the Swarm, Distant, The Browning, 216, A Killer’s Confession, Of Virtue, Until I Wake, Mugshot, The Pretty Wild, Colorblind, Convictions, Swollen Teeth, Bodybox, Big Ass Truck, Silent Theory, Alyxx, Carbonstone, How We Feel, Bittersweet Revenge, and Archon Theory.

Some of the special appearances and reunions at Inkcarceration will include:
Acid Bath: Rare performance from the band that has reunited after 28 years
Crossfade: One of the band’s first performances in 13 years
Reunion shows for Three Days Grace (with original vocalist Adam Gontier), The Dillinger Escape Plan, Chiodos, Dry Kill Logic, and Snot (with new vocalist to be announced soon)

Inkcarceration will also have an expanded festival footprint for 2025, which means more space, better viewing, and more shade for fans. With the improved festival layout, the historic Ohio State Reformatory will become the iconic backdrop to the main festival stages.

During the festival, Inkcarceration attendees will have the opportunity to get inked at Monster Energy Tattoo X, the onsite tattoo convention hosted inside the world-famous historic prison made famous by the film The Shawshank Redemption. In addition, fans can take self-guided tours of the reportedly haunted building during INK-this is the only time outside the Halloween season that the award-winning Blood Prison experience is open to guests.

Weekend and Single Day General Admission and VIP passes for America’s Rock, Metal and Tattoo Festival are on sale now starting at $1 down (or 10% of the total purchase) on layaway, with more than 6 months to pay off in full.

ZZ Ward Reclaims Her Blues Roots With ‘Liberation’ on Sun Records

0

Acclaimed singer-songwriter ZZ Ward is back with her most authentic and blues-infused work to date. Liberation, her debut album on the iconic Sun Records, out now, marking a bold new chapter in her celebrated career. Leading the charge is the album’s first single, “Love Alive,” available now alongside its striking music video.

Drawing inspiration from the blues greats and her own life’s most transformative experiences, Liberation is a fearless exploration of empowerment, authenticity, and self-discovery. Written during her journey through motherhood, the album finds ZZ returning to her blues roots, reflecting the raw, unfiltered emotions of life’s trials and triumphs.

“I didn’t plan to make a blues album about motherhood, it just sort of happened naturally,” ZZ shares. “I’ve always written to get through things in life. Suddenly, I was faced with a new job that’s 24/7 with no breaks, and that’s what I wrote about. But when you get tested, you discover who you are, and this album comes from a feeling of empowerment.”

ZZ’s relationship with the blues began in her early childhood, spurred on by her father, a bluesman with a rich record collection that became a soundtrack for her upbringing. She started singing the blues at age 8 and performing by the time she was 12. But as her career evolved, ZZ often found herself navigating industry expectations that pulled her away from her blues roots. “I used to care so much about what other people wanted my music to sound like, but after I became a mother, my priorities changed,” she says. Liberation marks a triumphant return to her formative influences, blending them with her singular voice and vision.

“Love Alive” is the perfect introduction to this new era, conjuring the haunting echoes of Son House with clapping, hollering, and a signature ZZ twist. The song’s emotionally resonant chorus reflects the struggles and hopes of maintaining connection in the face of life’s challenges. “Having kids can really test your relationship. This song is about keeping the love alive during the trying times of early parenthood,” ZZ explains. The music video for “Love Alive” further amplifies the song’s emotional core, with striking visuals that mirror its themes of resilience and vulnerability.

Shutdown are excited to announce the release of By Your Side, the NYHC institution’s brand new, six-song EP and first offering of new material in 25 years. A collection of passionate songs that are fueled by the same fiery intensity of the band’s youth but imbued and inspired by an outlook, worldview and wisdom that only comes with age and time, By Your Side transcends the genre and shows how effectively the band can write songs that appeal beyond the confines of the scene.

Additionally, Shutdown has released “What Are You Thinking?” today, a new single inspired by bassist Dion DeNardo’s son being diagnosed with autism, and a song that confronts and comes to terms with the challenges that this diagnosis posed for him. “That diagnosis taught Dion and even myself – because my oldest son is on the autism spectrum – to open ourselves up and learn more about who we are as people, especially compared to what we were taught when we were kids,” says vocalist Mark Scondotto.

While it’s a song that slots seamlessly into the Shutdown canon, it’s also one that obviously couldn’t have been written when the band first began. As if to drive that point home, it ends with all the band members’ children singing its chorus over an acoustic guitar. It’s the quietest moment on the EP but also its most powerful; not only does it demonstrate how well the band’s message resonates, but it serves as a symbolic passing of the torch to the next generation.

There are some bands that are just like old friendships – even if you haven’t spoken (or written music) for a while, you can pick up right where you left off. It had been an incredibly long time since New York hardcore outfit Shutdown had written a record together – 25 years, to be precise – but one listen to By Your Side and it’s almost as if that time has never passed.

Formed in Brooklyn in late 1994 as a bunch of teenagers, the four-piece quickly settled into their own skin. They solidified the line-up – Mark Scondotto on vocals, Steve DellaCroce on guitar, Dion DeNardo on bass and Jimmy McCormack on drums – and, after a handful of EPs and split 7″, released their debut full-length, Against All Odds, in 1998. An EP called Something To Prove came out the next year, followed by a second full-length, Few And Far Between, in 2000. Though young, the overriding sentiment of those songs was one of positivity despite the circumstances, and the band channeled that optimism and defiance through their raw and breathless take on hardcore. Straight edge and no bullsh*t, the four-piece soon became a known name in the scene … but then things slowed down and eventually just came to a stop. Life, as life does, got in the way.

“We never officially broke up,” says DellaCroce. “We needed to stop touring, and we started doing a few other things. We all tried to play when we could, but it wasn’t consistent. A couple of us had side projects going so we could keep playing, and we would write some Shutdown songs once in a while, but we realized we needed a plan of what we wanted to do and what the band should sound like. We’ve talked a lot over the past couple of years about how we’ve evolved and grown as musicians and songwriters, and we wanted everyone to hear what we were talking about.”

Given the state of the world right now, the community, optimism and hope the songs on By Your Side offer is not just important, but truly revolutionary and necessary. True to its title, it’s a companion, a friend, something to turn to when things get tough – because things always get tough. These six songs are a vital reminder that they also get better.

“That positivity is just how we roll,” DellaCroce summarizes, “because it helped us when we were angry teenagers. To this day, when we write songs, we write them for us and whoever likes it likes it, but obviously it speaks to a lot of people and it’s helped us survive this long as humans. So it was essential to keep that message going with this EP.”

“There’s a lot of hope on this release,” Scondotto summarizes. “I really think that’s what the world needs right now.”
