Gabríel Ólafs Announces ‘Polar: Dusk’ Expansion Album Out August 22

0

Today, well-regarded Icelandic composer, Gabríel Ólafs, announces Polar: Dusk the next musical element from his evolving aural and visual project, Polar. Set for release on August 22nd the digital only release is the next “expansion pack” that explores the science-fiction world of Polar as it wanes from day into twilight.  You can pre-order the album and listen to the first song, “Ocean Variation I,” off the eight-track set here.

The enigmatic and atmospheric music in Polar: Dusk is a natural extension of his recent sixth studio release, Polar – the strikingly memorable world born from Gabríel Ólafs dreams that was recently realized and brought to life through his music. You can listen to Polar here and delve into the making of the project via the official “Polar: Building A World” video below.

The imaginary world of Polar is a planet covered in ice, snow, and tundra, its mountains so immense they are visible from space. Then imagine traveling alone around its incredible landscape. You hear the haunting song of whales but find no human life. Apart from that are the traces of a mysterious lost civilization, which has left behind only frozen monolithic pyramids. This multimedia experience is the world of Polar.

Gabríel Ólafs ear for musical storytelling sets him apart as a true visionary of postmodern classical music. Polar is one of Ólafs most ambitious projects to date, and Polar: Dusk is the next step in this fantastical limitless world.

Polar: Dusk Tracklist:
1. Nightfall
2. Whales At Dusk
3. Ocean Variation I
4. Monolith At Dusk
5. Ocean Variation II
6. Permafrost (Part 1)
7. Permafrost (Part 2)
8. Dawn

Yunchan Lim To Release ‘Tchaikovsky – The Seasons’ On Decca Classics August 22

0

Decca Classics announces the upcoming release of Yunchan Lim: Tchaikovsky – The Seasons, available from 22 August. Lim shares a deeply personal and thoughtful interpretation of one of Tchaikovsky’s most intimate piano works. Recorded live at the Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey, Yunchan views the twelve pieces not merely as a set of months, but as a story portraying someone’s final year of life.

This follows the release of one of the most talked-about events in recent classical music. Yunchan Lim’s live performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 at the 2022 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, when he was just 18. The recording  was praised by The Guardian, which wrote, “The prodigious South Korean talent won 2022’s Van Cliburn piano competition with this performance; his version deserves a place alongside Argerich and Rachmaninoff himself,” and added, “He is the real thing, a once-in-a-generation talent… it’s hard to believe that this is the performance of an 18-year-old.

That recording, along with his debut studio album of Chopin Études, received wide critical acclaim. This year, the Études made headlines with three record-breaking wins at the BBC Music Magazine Awards.

To Lim, The Seasons tells the story of a life coming to its end. Each piece reflects a different moment or feeling, from sadness and quiet thought to joy, love and peace. The music begins with a man sitting by the fire, thinking about the past, and ends with a peaceful farewell.

In the 2023 to 2024 concert season, his live performances of the work received glowing reviews from both critics and audiences.

Diapason wrote, “The beauty and mastery over the piano contains something almost unreal… one would never have believed that The Seasons could produce such an effect on the audience.” Die Nieuwe Muze said, “Lim is a sincere musician who, once seated at the piano, becomes one with his instrument and plays the music because he experiences it that way and not otherwise.

Lim says, “Tchaikovsky’s The Seasons shows the final year of a human’s life. The first piece, ‘By the Hearth,’ shows a fire slowly dying in the fireplace. It begins with a man who is lost in memories, feeling sadness for no clear reason. Then new experiences bring hope. Strong feelings and tears turn into daydreams as the smoke from a cigarette curls through the air. While crying, he falls asleep, pulled into forgotten memories and always hesitating at the edge of the past. But then he returns to the present, accepts everything, and as the bell rings, he closes the day that will never come again.”

The album artwork, created by Ho-yeon Choi and titled How Much Do the Petals Weigh?, reflects the feelings and questions at the heart of the music. It invites listeners to think about moments of beauty and struggle and to ask the quiet but powerful question: What keeps me alive?

Deep Purple Announces ‘Made in Japan’ Super Deluxe Edition for 53rd Anniversary

0

On August 15, 1972, Deep Purple took the stage in Japan for the first of three shows that would give rise to one of rock’s most celebrated live albums, Made in Japan. Warner announces a new Super Deluxe Edition of the landmark release, due out August 15— exactly 53 years after the first performance was recorded.

Made in Japan (Super Deluxe Edition) features new stereo and Dolby ATMOS mixes of the original by acclaimed producer Steven Wilson, all three concerts newly remixed by Richard Digby Smith, and several rare single edits. It will be released as a 5CD/Blu-ray set at retailers nationwide, and a 10LP black vinyl edition, available exclusively from www.deeppurple.com and Rhino.com.

A 2LP black vinyl version of Steven Wilson remixes will be available on August 15 and October 3 in the U.S., Canada, and Japan at select independent record stores. The digital companion will be available everywhere on August 15.

Originally intended as a Japan-only release, this double live album became a surprise global phenomenon. Released in the U.K. in December 1972 and in the U.S. the following March, Made in Japan went platinum in America and several European countries.

Singer Ian Gillan, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, keyboardist Jon Lord, bassist Roger Glover, and drummer Ian Paice—Deep Purple’s famed Mk II lineup—turned studio staples like “Smoke On The Water,” “Highway Star,” and “Space Truckin’” into explosive live statements. “We came halfway around the world and found the audience singing every word. It was magical,” Glover recalls in the collection’s liner notes.

The band enlisted engineer Martin Birch—who had worked on several of their best-known studio albums—to record the shows to eight-track tape at Festival Hall in Osaka and the Budokan in Tokyo. The performances on Made in Japan (Super Deluxe Edition) capture Deep Purple at full throttle, powering through songs from their then-new album Machine Head, along with fan favorites like “Child In Time,” “Strange Kind Of Woman,” and “Speed King.” The collection also includes rare single edits, like the German version of “Black Night” and the Mexican edit of “Space Truckin’.”

The live album garnered widespread critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone declaring it “Purple’s definitive metal monster, a spark-filled execution of the typical Purple style.” This recognition led to its impressive ranking at No. 6 on their “Readers’ Poll: The 10 Best Live Albums of All Time.” AllMusic also praised the album, stating that “Deep Purple pushed its music into the kind of deliberate excess that made heavy metal what it became.” Additionally, the album achieved commercial success, landing at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Wilson harnesses the raw energy of the original tapes in his new stereo and Atmos mixes. “It’s all completely as it happened on the night,” he says. “The album has a power and sense of abandon that they never quite captured in the studio. Hopefully this new mix makes it feel even more like you’re there.”

we never dated” follows ubiquitous singles “undressed”and “back to friends.” The tracks are simultaneously scaling the Billboard Hot 100, with “undressed” hitting a new peak at #25. Earlier this month, “back to friends” became sombr’s first #1 at radio, climbing to the top of the Alternative chart after just 10 weeks, marking the quickest Alternative Airplay accession for a musician making their debut on the tally in nearly a decade.

The singles are also climbing at Spotify, landing in the top 10 on both the U.S. and Global Top 50 charts. “back to friends” earns #3 on the U.S. and Global charts this week, with over 338M streams on the platform to date. “undressed” follows closely at #8 on the U.S. and #9 on Global, amassing 233M streams on Spotify alone since its March 2025 release.

After selling out his North American and European headline tour pre-sale instantly, sombr will perform at venues around the world this summer/fall, including at New York’s Gramercy Theatre, back-to-back nights at New York’s Brooklyn Steel and Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre and  a show at Los Angeles’ Fonda Theatre.  sombr  will also take his dynamic live show to Australia and New Zealand in December. Andrea Bocelli and Jannik Sinner Unite on Inspiring Duet “Polvere e Gloria”

0

What happens when two champions meet outside their usual fields, yet within the shared space of lived experience? ‘Polvere e Gloria‘ (‘Dust and Glory‘) is born, the surprising musical union between Maestro Andrea Bocelli and Italian tennis star Jannik Sinnerto be released on 20th June.. This piece is more than a song: it is a conversation between generations, between different paths, equally driven by passion.

In ‘Polvere e Gloria‘, which blends Italian and English, Andrea Bocelli lends his warm voice to intense, solemn verses, while Jannik Sinner interjects with his own inspirational words, taken from both his winning and losing speeches of key games. Jannik recorded them especially for the track in the studio with Andrea, in Tuscany. Alongside the tenor’s lyrical voice, the athlete’s words are like life notes: All you have to do is to be yourself”, Improve every day”, Talent doesn’t exist, it has to be earned – words that have been used as Sinner’s own inspiration on his incredible journey to the top (Jannik is the first Italian to reach the world’s No.1 position in men’s singles).

Jannik Sinner says, “I am very happy, and honoured, to be part of this project with Andrea, who for 30 years has been a unique and extraordinary voice, a flag for our country in the rest of the world. I could never have imagined hearing my voice in one of his songs. It’s extremely moving.”

The song, written by Stephan Moccio, Giovanni Caccamo, Alfredo Rapetti Cheope and Maestro Bocelli himself, and produced by Pierpaolo Guerrini, is a tribute to the effort but at the same time to the beauty of the journey, to the “fine line that transforms dust into glory”. It is a manifesto of the smile as a response to the storm.

The evocative music video accompanying the track alternates between personal, archive images from the childhood and adolescence of the two protagonists and current scenes filmed in the Tuscan estate of Maestro Bocelli, of the pair spending time together.

‘Polvere e Gloria‘ is the unexpected but perfect meeting of two worlds that share the same code: dedication, authenticity, and love for who you have chosen to be.

Among many accolades, they’ve recently claimed a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2019, they notably ignited the comeback of the decade with their Platinum-Certified Republic Records debut, Happiness Begins. It yielded the history-making, 5x-Platinum smash “Sucker,” which minted them as “the first group in the 21st century to debut at #1 on the Hot 100,” exploded as the “longest running #1 Pop Airplay Single of 2019,” and received a GRAMMY® Award nomination in the category of “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.” Bowing at #1 on the Billboard 200, Happiness Begins impressively scored the “biggest sales week of 2019 at time of release” and housed the Double-Platinum “Only Human” and Platinum “Cool.” The band supported the album with the worldwide “Happiness Begins Tour”—selling over 1.2 million tickets—and the Amazon Original documentaries Chasing Happiness and Happiness Continues. Along the way, the members simultaneously juggled prolific solo careers extending into television, film, and successful business ventures. In 2023, Jonas Brothers once again proved they are a constant force, embarking on a new era with the release of The Album, via Republic Records. The Album was produced by Jon Bellion and features hit singles “Waffle House” and “Wings.” In support of the new album and this new era for Jonas Brothers, they kicked off “The Tour” with two sold-out shows at New York’s iconic Yankee Stadium. “The Tour” included stadium and arena dates around the globe through 2024, resulting in the band’s biggest and most extensive tour to date. 2025 marks a special year for Jonas Brothers as they celebrate their 20th anniversary as a band. To kick off the year, Jonas Brothers released two new singles–“Slow Motion” with producer Marshmello and “Love Me To Heaven.” They also hosted a milestone JONASCON fan event at New Jersey’s American Dream, where they celebrated 20 years of legacy, memories, and the Jonas Brothers fan community with over 75,000 fans from all over the world in attendance. JONASCON kicked off what’s bound to be an unforgettable year for the Jonas Brothers, including their brand new album, Greetings from Your Hometown, due out August 8th, and the highly-anticipated JONAS20: Greetings From Your Hometown Tour.

KATSEYE Unleashes Telenovela-Inspired Drama With New Single “Gabriela”

0

Today, KATSEYE dropped “Gabriela,” the second single from their forthcoming EP, BEAUTIFUL CHAOS, which is set for June 27 release via HYBE x Geffen Records“Gabriela” plays like a Gen Z “Jolene” — a side-eye warning wrapped in hip-swaying rhythms — and features the group’s first Spanish verse, which is delivered by Daniela, who is a first-generation Latina American. Andrew Watt (Lady Gaga, Jungkook) and John Ryan (Sabrina Carpenter) produced.

“In the official video for “Gabriela,” which stars Jessica AlbaKATESEYE pays tribute to telenovelas, a beloved cornerstone of Latino culture.” Alba plays the high-powered CEO of Gabriela Enterprises. When she announces she’s searching for a successor to take over the reins of her company, the boardroom erupts into chaos as each member of KATSEYE tries to claw their way to the top. Directed by Andrew Thomas Huang (Björk, FKA Twigs) the video made its broadcast premiere on MTV Live, MTVU, MTV Biggest Pop and on the Paramount Times Square billboards.

“Our music video for ‘Gabriela’ is vibrant, colorful, dramatic, and full of heart,” explains KATSEYE. “We leaned into the world of telenovelas because they’re iconic and over-the-top in the best possible way – from the acting to hair and wardrobe. We tried to honor that spirit while having fun with the concept. It’s all love, all homage, and definitely all drama!”

KATSEYE – comprising Daniela (Cuban/Venezuelan-American, from Atlanta, GA), Lara (Indian, from New York, NY), Manon (Ghanaian-Italian, from Zurich, Switzerland), Megan (Chinese-American, from Honolulu, HI), Sophia (Manila, Philippines), and Yoonchae (Seoul, South Korea) – will perform “Gnarly,” the EP’s first single, at the 2025 Kids Choice Awards tomorrow, June 20. “Gnarly” has already amassed over 100 million combined global streams. “There has not been a KATSEYE song like this before…It’s abrasive, camp, totally chaotic,” said The FADER, which later named the track as a contender for “song of the summer 2025.”

The group’s “Gnarly” remixes – one with Ice Spice and a second with Lara of KATSEYE, Lancey Foux, and Slush Puppy – have also won acclaim, including an appearance on Rolling Stone’s Songs You Need to Know playlist. Billboard declared, “KATSEYE Heats Up ‘Gnarly’ Summer with Ice Spice Remix.”

KATSEYE debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists and Heatseekers Albums charts with their first EP, SIS (Soft Is Strong) in late 2024. On their new EP, BEAUTIFUL CHAOS, the group explores the complexities of modern girlhood, and how the real and digital worlds often blur. PAPER observed, “[Beautiful Chaos] is an encapsulation of the group’s buzzing energy, a messy distillation of the first-of-its-kind girl group…KATSEYE are ready to lean into their own distinct POV. There is no set road map for this group…”  Wonderland declared, “They’re taking over the pop- world…” Pre-order / pre-save HERE. See below for track listing or watch KATSEYE reveal it HERE.

Named an artist to watch for 2025 by VEVO DSCVR and TIDAL and nominated for two 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards, the global girl group is the first of its kind, forged within the high standards of the K-pop system, as seen in HYBE and Geffen Records’ groundbreaking Dream Academy show and artist development program (and later, the Netflix docuseries, Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE). KATSEYE is featured on the May-June cover of Teen Vogue and recently announced partnerships with Glossier and Urban Outfitters.

Sam Fender and Olivia Dean Reimagine “Rein Me In” as a Duet

0

Sam Fender is pleased to share a new recording of Rein Me In featuring BRIT Award and Mercury Prize nominated British artist Olivia Dean.

Watch the Rein Me In video featuring footage from Sam’s recent sell-out stadium run in London and Newcastle, shot by Daniel Broadley.

The track, which originally featured on Sam’s number 1 selling third album, People Watching earlier this year, receives a re-working with a new verse and vocals written and sung by Olivia Dean. It’s the first recorded collaboration for Sam since teaming up with Noah Kahan last year for Homesick.

Sam and Olivia performed the track at the London Stadium earlier this month in front of 80,000 fans to a huge reaction with snippets of the performance flooding social media soon after. The pair subsequently performed the track twice more at Newcastle’s St. James’ Park last weekend.

Sam Fender on working with Olivia Dean“If I collaborate with another artist on one of my songs, I prefer they write a new part and make it their own, rather than singing whatever I’ve already written.

“Olivia added a female perspective to Rein Me In, and I think it’s all the better for it. Sharing the stage with her over these last few stadium shows has been a joy. I can’t wait for people to have it.”

Olivia Dean on the collaboration“Rein Me In is my favourite song on Sam’s album, so it was a pleasure to write a new verse from a female perspective. I’ve been a fan of Sam’s for a while now, so I’m so pleased we got to work together on this duet.”

Sam continues his massive 2025 with a big Summer of headline shows and festival performances across the UK and Europe, ahead of an imminent return to the US for a second run of dates, most of which sold out on announcement. The People Watching tour then heads to Australia in November.

Olivia Dean releases her second album, “The Art of Loving” on 26th September via Capitol Records.

What’s Wrong With New York?: Afters, the deluxe version of The Dare’s critically acclaimed debut album, is out today.

What’s Wrong With New York?, The Dare’s highly anticipated debut, took the world by storm upon release in September 2024. The LP features his ubiquitous first single “Girls—now a bona fide hit with 59 million streams on Spotify alone—as well as fan favorites Perfume and Good Time.” The deluxe finds The Dare releasing three never-before-heard tracks from the album’s original sessions, including “LCA,” his first cover song, a take on “I Can’t Escape Myself” by The Sound, and “Cheeky.”

What’s Wrong With New York?: Afters arrives on the heels of The Dare’s explosive sets at CoachellaPrimavera Sound and a completely sold out seven-night residency at Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right. The past year has seen him at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards with Charli xcx, front row for a number of shows at Paris Fashion Week and, most recently, produce album standout “Stateside” from PinkPantheress’ Fancy That.

The rest of the summer will see The Dare take his live show to additional festival stages around the globe, with dates at LollapaloozaReadingLeeds and more. After playing to 4,000 people in NYC, The Dare will bring his signature party Freakquencies back to Brooklyn with dates at 3 Dollar BillElsewhere and Public Records. The club nights, which started in a basement bar in Manhattan, have recently seen guest DJs Doss, Danny L Harle, Dylan Brady and Kelly Lee Owens, amongst others.

The Dare is the solo project of vocalist, songwriter and producer Harrison Patrick Smith. Bursting onto the scene with his global hit, Girls,” his much lauded The Sex EP drew widespread praise from critics and fellow artists alike. He has shared stages and collaborated with Charli xcx, Yves Tumor, Brutalismus 3000 and a host of others, and his legendary DJ sets have soundtracked parties for Gucci, Celine, Yves Saint Laurent and many more.
