Alt-Country Trailblazer Kathleen Edwards Releases “Pine” Ahead of August Album ‘Billionaire’

0

Acclaimed singer, songwriter and performer Kathleen Edwards releases her new song, “Pine,” today. Listen/share HERE.

Reflecting on the track, Edwards shares, “On the 2-day drive from Ottawa to Nashville, a line popped in my head, ‘when we go our separate ways, the thought of you stays.’ By the time I arrived in Nashville I had written ‘Pine’ and it was the first track we put down for this album. Friends who can’t be lovers. A classic country song. At first the arrangement made me feel incredibly bare and exposed, but I now love the spare production; Jason’s super-dry electric solo makes me feel like Dusty.”

The track is the latest offering from her highly anticipated new album, Billionaire, out August 22 on Dualtone Records (pre-order). Produced by Jason Isbell and Gena Johnson, the new 10-song project recalls the lyrical sharpness and unflinching candor of Edwards’ acclaimed debut Failer and includes previously shared songs “Save Your Soul” and “Say Goodbye, Tell No One.”

In addition to Edwards (vocals, acoustic guitar), Isbell (electric guitar, acoustic guitar, keys, synth, background vocals) and Johnson (engineer, piano, background vocals), the album features Anna Butterss (bass), Annie Clements (bass), Chad Gamble (drums and percussion), Jen Gunderman (piano, celeste, Hammond B3 organ, Wurlitzer) and Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer (background vocals).

In celebration of Billionaire, Edwards will embark on a series of performances this summer and fall, including newly confirmed dates at New York’s Bowery Ballroom on September 16 and a return to XPoNential Music Festival on September 20, among many others. See below for complete tour details.

Of the album, Edwards shares, “I decided to call the record Billionaire because the word is used in such a caustic way these days. But we should all want to be billionaires in life, to be rich in experience, friendship, purpose, and the pursuit of the things that bring us joy.”

Of working with Edwards, Johnson shares, “Kathleen is as funny as she is deep. She loves to rock, have fun and nerd out on guitar tones, which both Jason and I love to do as well. It was important to us to make sure we were featuring all the sides of her in the production of this album, from tracking to final mix. She totally thrived on the energy of the full band when we were in the studio and was also open to an idea I had for the song ‘Little Pink Door.’ That song ended up being a live one-take performance of Kathleen singing while playing acoustic guitar, accompanied by Jason on electric guitar and Jen Gunderman on piano. Both Jason and Jen were right there with her every single breath, only playing when it felt right. I remember when the take finished, Jason said he wouldn’t change a thing about it, and I couldn’t have agreed more. It’s in those moments when you know that something truly special is being made. I am so looking forward to attending a live show and experiencing both the energy and intimacy these songs and stories will bring to the audience.”

Celebrated as one of the forebears of modern alt-country and Americana music, Edwards is beloved by fans and fellow musicians, and praised by The New York Times for her “droll, observant and unsparing tone that is all her own. In her best lines, Edwards has the conversational vernacular and emotional eloquence of a great short-story writer.”

Since debuting in 2003, Edwards has released five albums, including 2020’s Total Freedom—her first after stepping away from music for almost a decade. Released to overwhelming acclaim with pieces at The New Yorker, The New York Times, Rolling Stone and more, Pitchfork called it “a creative breakthrough, written solely for the thrill of discovery,” while Rolling Stone declared it “devastatingly great.” Most recently, Edwards released a covers EP featuring special guests Isbell, Bahamas and Daniel Tashian, including renditions of Isbell’s “Traveling Alone,” Bruce Springsteen’s “Human Touch,” The Flaming Lips’ “Feeling Yourself Disintegrate,” Tom Petty’s “Crawling Back To You” and more. She has been nominated for multiple JUNO and Americana Awards and, in 2012, was awarded the SOCAN Songwriting Prize.

Of Monsters and Men Return With Reflective Indie-Folk Single “Television Love”

0

Following five-years of quiet evolution, Icelandic indie-folk icons Of Monsters and Men break their creative silence with “Television Love.” Written and recorded in their studio in Iceland, “Television Love” is an ongoing conversation that keeps picking up where it left off; layered with time, emotion, and the kind of honesty that only comes with reflection.

The accompanying video echoes the song’s themes, following the band through moments that illustrate the passage of time—capturing change, stillness, and the persistence of connection.

Speaking about the track, the band shares, “We’re so excited to share our song “Television Love.” For the past few years, we’ve been tucked away in our studio quietly making music, and it feels really good to finally let people in on what we’ve been up to.

Speaking about the music video, the band shares: “We shot the music video with director Erlendur Sveinsson. It’s centered around a conversation at a dinner table, with the band and the table moving through time and space, through chaos and calm, all while being both connected and disconnected from the surroundings.

The video was shot entirely on 35mm film during a summer night in Iceland. Because it was filmed around the solstice, we were able to stay up until the early morning without the sun ever going down. It was a strange, kind of timelessness that felt just right for Television Love.”

At its core, “Television Love” is a conversation between two people stretched across time. The song has been with us for a while and when we were working in our studio we’d visit the song at different moments in our lives. Each time it felt like we had something new to share and add to the song’s story. Life happens, things change, hopelessness turns into hope. The sonic landscape and the conversation became layered with our own history.”

Of Monsters and Men went from Reykjavík to the global stage with their breakout 2011 debut My Head Is An Animal, which propelled them from Icelandic indie darlings to international chart-toppers. The album’s breakout single “Little Talks,” a defining song for a generation, now boasts over 1 billion Spotify streams, and by 2013, they were making their U.S. TV debut on Saturday Night Live.

Amid their meteoric rise, the band released their sophomore album Beneath The Skin in 2015, which debuted in the Top 3 of the Billboard 200 and was accompanied by a surprise cameo on HBO’s huge hit series Game of Thrones. Their cinematic sound has popped up everywhere from The Hunger Games to The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, while their festival appearances — Coachella, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, and more — have only confirmed what fans already knew: this is a band best experienced live and in the wild.

Over a decade in, Of Monsters and Men have gone from folk-tinged newcomers to digital-era mainstays, with 9 million monthly listeners on Spotify and a new generation discovering that Iceland’s beauty extends beyond fjords and thermal baths.

Alison Shearer Announces Jazz Album ‘In The Garden’ Out October 10 Via Pinch Records

0

New York City saxophonist and composer Alison Shearer releases a coming-of-age musical testament with her sophomore studio album, In The Garden (Pinch Records), set for release on Friday, October 10, 2025. The rising star jazz saxophonist dwells In The Garden of sound and self to discover what’s been waiting to be unearthed. A recording she embarked on with engineer and Pinch Records label owner Scott Lindner, In The Garden is a gift, following Shearer’s years of honing her singular voice and emerging as a leading female jazz artist.

Whereas Alison Shearer’s debut album, View From Above (NPR Music “Top 10 Albums of 2022” – Nikki Birch), was a tribute to her late father the legendary civil rights-era photojournalist John Shearer, In The Garden finds Alison composing several years after her father’s battle with prostate cancer (he died on June 22, 2019) and feeling as though she’s finally found her sound. “Artists compose music to help people access their emotions through sound, like no other medium can,” Shearer says. “Writing allows me to understand who I am, and at 36, I’m finally living the life I’ve wanted and I’m ready to speak out and tell my story so other women in music can hopefully have a journey that’s a little bit easier.”

In The Garden centers around Alison’s working band featuring Kevin Bernstein (piano, Fender Rhodes, synthesizers), Marty Kenney (bass), and Horace Phillips (drums). Shearer is able to exhibit a pop sensibility within a complex rhythmic thicket; she likes to describe the album as a “collection of odd meter earworms.” “Homer,” inspired by drum maestro Nate Smith, marks the first single (Release Date: August 1, 2025) and is the hardest-hitting tune on In The Garden. Alison’s performance is dialed in and hot.

“Sophie’s World” (Release Date: August 29, 2025) comes from the title of a book on philosophy by Jostein Gaarder. The contemplative vibe is set by Bernstein’s starry Wurlitzer and Kenney’s gently rotating bass line. The rhythmic changes are subtly blended into each other, imperceptible to all but the most careful listeners.

“Liberty Market” (Release Date: Friday, September 26, 2025) gets its name from a marketplace in Lahore, Pakistan that Shearer visited while on tour with Sunny Jain’s Wild Wild East in 2022. Shearer captures the vibrancy, the children running around, the multitude of colors and sounds, through soprano saxophone and flute melodies that weave effortlessly in and out of a multi-metric setting. Like the whole album, this track was cut live to tape and you can feel it in its jubilation. “Skylark” is the sole standard on In the Garden; one of Alison’s favorite tunes. The 7/8 feel and piano ostinato makes this rendition her own.

The most straight-ahead track on the album is “But Not For Now.” Featuring Kevin Bernstein (piano) and Marty Kenney (acoustic bass), Shearer continues to surprise us with an interlude/outro written in a baroque style. The soulful title track “In The Garden”, ends with an alto solo that gives an exuberant Kenny Garrett like energy. Alison says, “The whole idea of being in the garden, is being ready to bloom.” “Treehouse,” an uptempo bembe tune, is the first flute tune she’s written for her quartet – Willie Colon fans will be happy with this one. “Treehouse” segues into the joyful “Remember When,” with soaring solos by Bernstein and Shearer, and a tight drum/sax duo moment between Phillips and Shearer.

Saxophonist Alison Shearer is the daughter of legendary civil rights-era photojournalist John Shearer, who was one of the youngest and second black staff photographer for LIFE magazine. He chronicled the funerals of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr., as well as Muhammad Ali before his infamous fight with Joe Frazier. Her grandfather was the illustrator Ted Shearer, who released the first nationally syndicated cartoon featuring a black character, Quincy. The Shearer family accomplished an array of firsts in the black community, and lived among other greats such as Cab Calloway and Sidney Poitier in Greenburgh, NY. While she grew up with a pedigree of black excellence, Alison’s sense of racial identity was complicated due to the fairness of her skin. She has always been tremendously proud of her black heritage and identifies as a mixed-race woman, but she grew up being perceived as white, living in a predominantly white neighborhood within Westchester County.

The drive of her family was certainly passed down to her, and at 17, she enrolled at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music. Tragically, her time at school was tarnished by severe sexual trauma, which would have a lasting impact on her life and relationship to jazz and music in general. Without naming names, Alison no longer remains silent about her experience and is certainly not the only woman who went through similar trials at elite schools. In spite of this, Alison persevered and has built a tremendous career: she tours internationally as a member of Red Baraat and Sunny’s Jain Wild Wild East, is on the faculty of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s High School Jazz Academy and has become an established composer. She received chamber commissions from USCB Center for the Arts in 2024 and 2025, as well as a commission to write a saxophone concerto from ROCO in Houston, Texas, which will premiere in September 2026.

Alison’s return to the studio for In The Garden is a milestone presenting a deeply personal project that charts a terrain of grief, resilience, and rebirth. Much more than a collection of compositions, In The Garden is a sonic memoir. It is Shearer’s reckoning with the complexity of life and lineage, told through music that is as technically masterful as it is emotive. In The Garden spotlights her as a rising force in jazz with something powerful to say.

Living Colour Brings ‘Time’s Up’ To NPR’s Tiny Desk

0

For Black Music Month, Living Colour hit the NPR Tiny Desk to honor the 35th anniversary of Time’s Up. Kicking off with “Cult of Personality”, the band delivered a powerful set that paid tribute to their roots in Hendrix, Motown, and Bad Brains. Even in a smaller setting, Vernon Reid’s guitar wizardry, Corey Glover’s searing vocals, and the deep rhythmic backbone of Doug Wimbish and Will Calhoun proved that volume isn’t what makes them legendary—it’s presence.

10. Mastodon – Crack the Skye (2009)
Mastodon’s progressive epic explores themes of loss, time travel, and spirituality. Combining sludgy riffs with intricate melodies, Crack the Skye is both heavy and heartfelt, proving that metal can evolve without losing its soul.

Phil Collins’ Isolated Vocals For Genesis’ “Turn It On Again”

Released in 1980 on Duke, Genesis’s “Turn It On Again” was born from discarded solo material by Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks, then supercharged by Phil Collins’ rhythmic instincts. A meditation on media obsession, the song became a UK Top 10 hit and is famous for its shifting time signatures, alternating between 13/8, 6/4, and 7/4. What began as a slow riff morphed into one of Genesis’s most technically thrilling rock staples.

Generating a Music Album Cover: Design Tricks and Guidelines

0

By Mitch Rice

Can producing a music album cover evoke ingenuity and inspire a new vision? Absolutely. The hours you may have spent in a dusty attic, poring over the covers of your cherished music album collection, can spark your untapped talent when putting pen to paper.

If you are not keen on designing your music album cover, Depositphotos.com, the largest marketplace for creative shots, offers a wide selection of quality stock images.

The cover of a music album has a major impact on the perception of the lyrics. Notable album art not only catches the eye but also conveys the tone of a particular song collection. In this article, we will discover how to compose a music album cover that will be legendary and bring the audience to your music project.

Research and Inspiration: Scrolling Through Prime Examples

Before you dive into the design process headfirst, it is essential to conduct in-depth research and find some sort of encouragement. First and foremost, analyze those illustrative cases that have stolen the show. Here are a few remarkable examples:

  • The Beatles – Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band: This cover has become notorious due to its vibrant and detailed design. It includes a constellation of constituents that reflect the cultural and social aspects of the time.
  • Pink Floyd – The Dark Side of the Moon: Simplicity and symbolism make this cover unforgettable. The prism refracting light has become a symbol of the band and their artistic style.
  • Nirvana – Nevermind: The shot of a baby in a swimming pool represents an entire generation. It captures the spirit of the times and reflects the themes of the album.

Get to the bottom of what makes these covers one in a million and how they convey the quintessence of the album. This will shed light on the elements that may add to the visual appeal of your cover. Pay attention to the color schemes, print style, composition, and symbolism utilized in the examples above.

Core Elements of Design: Color, Print Style, and Arrangement

Color

The color mirrors the entire vibe of the music album cover. Stick to shades that harmonize with your music genre. For instance, a rock album might use dark and saturated colors, while a pop album might use bright and cheerful hues. Diverse tones can evoke a plethora of sentiments and associations, so one should choose them with care.

  • Dark colors: Frequently associated with depth, seriousness, and intensity. Suitable for genres such as rock, metal, and blues.
  • Bright colors: Evoke positive emotions and are associated with energy and joy. They are ideal for pop and dance tracks.
  • Pastel colors: Create a soft and calm atmosphere. Suitable for indie and folk music.

Print Style

Print style is not just about picking out a suitable font, but also about creating a vivid impression. Apply fonts that go well with your album idea. That is to say, classical masterpieces can be coupled with elegant and sophisticated fonts, while electronic music tends to use cutting-edge and minimalistic fonts. Overall, your chosen typography should be legible and fit harmoniously into the holistic design of the cover.

  • Elegant fonts: Suitable for classical and jazz music. They convey a sense of sophistication and refinement.
  • Modern fonts: Ideal for electronic and pop music. They create a sense of modernity and dynamism.
  • Hand-lettered fonts: Can add personality and uniqueness. Suitable for indie and folk music.

Composition

The cover’s composition should be congenial and eye-catching. Place elements in such a way that they generate visual balance. Apply the rule of thirds and the golden ratio to create a harmonious composition. It is paramount that all constituents of the cover go together and make up a unified whole.

  • Rule of thirds: Divide the cover into three equal parts horizontally and vertically. Place key elements at the intersections of these lines.
  • Golden ratio: Use the proportions of the golden ratio to create a harmonious composition. This will help create a visually pleasing and balanced design.
  • Visual balance: Ensure that all parts of the cover are on the same page. Avoid unnecessary overcrowding and visual cacophony.

Practical Tips: Give it Your Signature

  • Uniqueness and Inventiveness

Design a music cover that boldly stands out from the rest. While avoiding cliches, you can apply extraordinary elements to draw extra attention to your masterpiece.

  • Match the Genre and Style

Notably, visual harmony will help listeners understand what to expect from your album on the spot. Make sure that the discernible elements of the cover match the musical content.

  • Testing and Feedback

Share your brand-new cover with friends and colleagues to get feedback. Constructive feedback can offer different perspectives and create a seamless experience.

Let’s Sum It Up

Creating a dream album cover is an art that requires a meticulous approach and novelty. By following our guidelines, you can design a piece of art destined for success and recognition.

The Rise of Locking Bass Tuners

0

By Mitch Rice

Tuning stability has been a long-standing issue between bassists and others over several decades. It could be in the spotlight on a hot stage or taping down takes in the recording studio; bass players have experienced the aggravation of tuning wanderers, string slips or the gradual demise of a disintegrating tuner. However, contemporary solutions are narrowing down all this, and perhaps no one is as thrilling as the emergence of locking bass tuners.

The concept of locking tuners was not developed yesterday. Until now, tuners have enjoyed higher popularity among guitarists, particularly those who are into shredding and want to avoid tuning-related issues during a solo session. The bassists had slightly smaller gauges and fewer choices, and they prayed that their stock tuners would not slip during the set. That is quickly changing.

In 2025, locking bass tuners are emerging from the shadows and positioning themselves as a suitable and proper upgrade for the serious player. Be it funk, metal, prog or soul. What are locking tuners anyway? What makes them so popular, and which of these products (e.g., Guyker) should game-changers watch? Let us look at it.

What Are Locking Bass Tuners?

Locking tuners are not much different in appearance from normal machine heads at first sight. However, the magic occurs in their inner working. Locking tuners utilize a clamp (or locking device) to permanently secure the string in the post. You pull the string through rather than winding it up several times around the tuning post and hoping it will hold tension. Then, tighten the lock (in most cases employing a thumbscrew or wheel on the back), and tune up. It is faster, cleaner, and a lot smore table.

Main Benefits

  • Higher stability of tuning (with harsh playing or changing different tunings)
  • Faster string replacement (particularly, during a tour or recording in a studio)
  • Lewer breaking of strings
  • Homelier string coils (No over-winding and tangled neck to the headstock)

Although the benefits of these have been known to guitarists for some time, bassists are coming to realize just how much easier their setup could be with this technology, particularly those who string their bass with lighter gauge strings, utilize alternate tunings, or play extended-range bass instruments.

What Is the Reason behind its Fleet Popularity?

There are a couple of major reasons as to why locking bass tuners have finally made it big:

Modern Bass Playing requires stability

Genres such as djent, math rock, and experimental indie often employ rapid returning, aggressive fingerstyle or slap-style playing, and so-called drop tunings, which place considerable stress on the strings. Conventional guitar parts, such as tuners, often lack the time. Locking tuners offer bulletproof stability where you need it most, with extended-range basses (5-string, 6-string, etc.).

The Guitar Gear-Driven Force

With guitar hardware changing almost by the moment at the hands of manufacturers such as Hipshot, Gotoh, and Guyker, bassists soon got themselves wondering: where is our kind of the same thing? The manufacturers have reacted. Today, you can find locking bass tuners from Guyker, Schaller, Grover, and boutique versions specially designed and adapted to bass specifications.

Do It Yourself Mod Culture and Mods

As ever, more players are customizing their own gear. On YouTube, there are dozens of instructions on replacing machine heads, nuts, and bridges. Installing locking tuners is the logical next step for those who seek high-performance upgrades without having to purchase a new bass.

The reality of Gigging and Touring

Honestly, not all the time roadies are ready, are they? To a typical gigging bass player, locking tuners can be a real lifesaver when their strings break during sound check or just before a festival event.

Light on Guyker: A New Contemporary Locking Tuner Made to Use in Bassists

The Guyker brand is one of the hottest brands in the affordable locking tuner market. The precision machining, sexy looks, and simple installation have meant Guyker locking bass tuners are fast becoming a DIYer and boutique luthier’s favourite.

What sets Guyker tuners apart?

  • Fluid gear ratio (usually 20:1 or higher to be able to be tuned accurately)
  • Native direct drop-in compatibility with most standard bass headstocks
  • Lightweight Alloy housings are claimed to be very durable
  • Thumbwheel controls- no tools required to lock or unlock your string

Guyker provides vintage-style and contemporary styles so that you can be rocking a Jazz Bass clone or a headless future-funkier, but chances are, they have something that will accommodate your taste.

You can read user reviews of Guyker locking bass tuners on Amazon or visit the TalkBass forums to read what other players thought after installing them on Ibanez basses, Squier basses, home-built, and specialty builds.

Are Locking Tuners Worth the Extra Expense on Bass?

Short answer: Yes, provided that you prefer the tuning stability, abridged string swings and present-day performance. Long answer? It is a matter of preference, playing style, and your setup. This is where locking tuners will have their most effect:

  • You sing, or you record a lot
  • You alternate tunings regularly (drop D, half-step down, etc.)
  • You attack/you slap/pop about
  • You play with lighter gauge strings or lower string tensions
  • You desire a less-messy, faster string-change procedure

Conventional tuners are still adequate for use by traditionalists or those who can expend a little physical energy. Most players say that it is difficult to go back once you’ve locked in.

Every brand can be distinguished by touch, appearance and cost. When replacing your bass, consider specifications such as peg hole diameter, gear ratio, and string post height as important factors to ensure a perfect fit.

Installation Hints to the DIY Bassist

To install locking tuners, you typically swap the old versions for modern classic style. This is what is going to happen:

  • Unscrew and unbolt the old tuners on the back of the headstock. Remove old tuners (unscrew and unbolt the back of the headstock)
  • Fitment check-locking tuners usually use different post diameters
  • Mount new tuners on the available holes (or make holes where they are lacking)
  • Safe and adjust–pull the string through, lock but open down, and tune

Conclusion

With the endlessly expanding buzz around brands such as Guyker, driving innovative products into an accessible price range, now is the time to treat your bass to the stability and precision of choice.

Let’s break down what these screens are, why you need one, and which are best for your setup—whether you’re an iPhone shooter or an Android vlogger.

What Is a Selfie Monitor Screen?

A selfie monitor screen is essentially a small display—often a field monitor or mirrored device—that attaches to your phone or camera setup and allows you to see yourself while filming. Most smartphones’ front-facing cameras are decent, but they don’t come close to the quality of the rear lenses. That’s where these monitors become so important: they let you film with your best camera without flying blind.

There are two main types:

  • Digital field monitors: These connect via HDMI or USB-C and display exactly what your camera sees in real time.
  • Mirrored screens: Simple and passive, these reflect your phone’s rear display to the front so you can align your shots.

Some monitors go further, offering brightness control, focus peaking, audio levels, and LUT previews, turning your phone into a full production rig. This is particularly helpful for creators using professional apps like Filmic Pro or DSLR cameras.

Whether you call it a selfie screen monitor, phone selfie monitor screen, or vlog selfie monitor screen, the function is the same—give you control and confidence while shooting.

Why You Need a Vlog Selfie Monitor Screen

Let’s be real—vlogging without a screen is like driving with your eyes closed. You don’t know if you’re in the frame, your lighting is off, or if you’ve been recording the wall behind you for the last five minutes. The phone vlog selfie monitor screen solves all these issues and then some.

Here’s why it’s a must-have:

  • Framing: You can center yourself perfectly without needing someone else behind the camera.
  • Focus: Make sure your face is in sharp focus, especially with shallow depth of field setups.
  • Lighting Adjustments: See how the light hits your face and adjust accordingly—no more overexposed skin or harsh shadows.
  • Efficiency: Cut down on retakes and editing time by getting the shot right the first time.

Creators using both iPhones and Android phones benefit enormously from this gear. With options tailored for each platform—like vlog selfie monitor screen android compatible models and selfie monitor screen iPhone versions—you’re covered no matter your device preference.

Imagine walking through a bustling street market, talking to your followers, and knowing without a doubt that your shot is perfect. That’s the kind of confidence a phone selfie monitor screen gives you.

How to Choose A Phone Vlog Selfie Monitor Screen

Not all selfie screen monitors are built the same. Here are the key factors to keep in mind for iPhone and Android users when making a purchase.

Key factors for iPhone Users

For Apple users, having a selfie monitor screen iPhone compatible device is essential. iPhones are known for their powerful rear cameras, but not having a built-in flip screen means a selfie monitor becomes your best friend.

Here’s what to look for:

  • Lightning or USB-C connectivity (depending on your iPhone model)
  • Compatible apps like Filmic Pro that support external displays
  • Mounting systems that attach cleanly to your tripod or handheld rig

Key factors for Vlog Selfie Monitor Screen Android Users

Android creators have a huge advantage in terms of connectivity and compatibility. Many Android phones support USB-C output and even native external monitor usage without the need for third-party apps. If you’re searching for a vlog selfie monitor screen Android compatible option, you’re in luck—there are plenty of choices.

Here’s what you need to prioritize:

  • USB-C Video Output: Look for phones and monitors that support USB-C DisplayPort functionality.
  • Lightweight Design: Since mobile setups need to stay compact, opt for monitors that won’t weigh down your rig.
  • Touchscreen Features: Some selfie monitor screens come with touchscreen control for even easier usability.
  • Battery Life: Ensure the monitor has good battery life or supports external power through USB-C or DC inputs.

Popular monitors from brands like SYNCO work seamlessly across iPhone and Android. No matter your setup, adding a phone selfie monitor screen to your vlogging kit allows you to confidently shoot solo, adjust your angles in real-time, and significantly improve your video quality.

How to Set Up A Selfie Screen Monitor

Once you’ve picked your monitor, setting it up right is key to maximizing its benefits. Here’s a simple setup guide for vloggers:

  1. Mount the Monitor
Use a cold shoe adapter or clamp to attach the monitor securely above or beside your phone.
  2. Connect the Input
For digital monitors, plug in using HDMI or USB-C, depending on compatibility. Make sure the source is correctly configured to send video output.
  3. Power the Monitor
Use built-in batteries, a V-mount adapter, or USB-C power banks to keep your monitor running for longer shoots.
  4. Open Your Camera for Vlogging App
Apps like Filmic Pro, Open Camera, or your native camera app should detect the monitor automatically.
  5. Adjust Settings
Configure brightness, color, focus peaking, or framing guides directly on the monitor to optimize your shooting experience.

This setup can turn a basic phone rig into a mobile production studio—giving you a professional edge, whether you’re filming a makeup tutorial or doing an IRL street vlog.
