Thom Yorke Unveils Surreal ‘Dialing In’ Video Ahead of Apple TV+ Drama Smoke

0

Launching on June 24th, Radiohead/The Smile visionary Thom Yorke unveils the mind-bending video for his single, ‘Dialing In’, the lead track from Apple TV+’s upcoming Taron Edgerton-starring drama Smoke, premiering June 27th.

Visuals have been created by acclaimed artist Weirdcore, known for surreal, glitch-heavy live show visuals and music videos for the likes of Aphex Twin, M.I.A., Tame Impala, Charli XCX, Louis Vuitton, Miley Cyrus, Oneohtrix Point Never and Arca. A regular collaborator, Weirdcore created all the visuals for The Smile’s 2024 album Cutouts, Yorke’s project with fellow Radiohead bandmate Jonny Greenwood and jazz drummer Tom Skinner, as well as a looping sequence promoting Radiohead’s track ‘Glass Eyes’ in 2016.

Blending digital distortion with organic forms, Weirdcore’s style evokes disorientation, nostalgia, and dreamlike unease – hallmarks of the broader “weirdcore” aesthetic he helped define. On ‘Dialing In’, that aesthetic ignites: scenes from the show bleed and melt into one another like burning celluloid, as faces flicker, warp, and dissolve into fluid, pixelated hallucinations.

Keen fans of Thom Yorke may already be familiar with ‘Dialing In’. Originally titled ‘Gawpers’, the unreleased track has been a regular in Yorke’ live show since 2019, containing parallels with the themes of Smoke, having been fine-tuned to underscore the show’s themes even further. In typical style of the Grammy and Ivo Novello-awarded artist, ‘Dialing In’ is a melancholy number, putting his distinct vocals against fragile glass-like bells, dancing like flames, unaware of the brooding atmosphere building like a steadily consuming fire beneath.

The music video for ‘Dialing In’ lands on June 24th, three days ahead of the anticipated global launch of Smoke on Apple TV+ on the 27th. The audio is available to stream now in both standard and Atmos formats.

Bill McClintock’s Fiery New Mashup Is Literally ‘Hotter Than a Highway to Hell With the Devil’

0

If rock and roll had a final boss, it would sound like this.

Bill McClintock, the undisputed king of mashups and man who laughs in the face of genre boundaries, has unleashed a face-melting, hell-raising, soul-shaking monster of a mix with “Hotter Than a Highway to Hell With the Devil.” What started as a simple fan request turned into a full-on metal inferno — because Bill doesn’t do things halfway, he does them McClintock-style.

This track is the Avengers: Endgame of hair, heat, and harmony. You’ve got the righteous fury of Stryper, the bar-stool blues of AC/DC, and the greasepaint thunder of KISS — all cranked up to 11 and welded together with the kind of precision that makes you question whether this mashup is from heaven, hell, or just somewhere backstage at a 1987 arena show.

But it doesn’t stop there. This track has more classic riffs than a denim jacket has patches. Check out the full playlist of madness:

  • Stryper – To Hell With the Devil
  • AC/DC – Highway to Hell
  • KISS – Hotter Than Hell
  • Mötley Crüe – Shout at the Devil
  • Pantera – Cowboys From Hell
  • Dokken – Into the Fire
  • Def Leppard – Foolin’
  • Vixen – Edge of a Broken Heart
  • AC/DC – Hells Bells
  • Blue Öyster Cult – Burnin’ for You
  • Twisted Sister – Burn in Hell
  • Judas Priest – Devil’s Child
  • Van Halen – Sinner’s Swing
  • Van Halen – And the Cradle Will Rock
  • Van Halen – Jump

It’s a molten metal mixtape. A one-way ticket to the loudest corner of your soul. It’s Hotter Than a Highway to Hell With the Devil, and you won’t believe it until you press play.

Now crank it. And maybe clear a space to throw your horns.

0

Today, rock legend Billy Idol announces new vinyl re-pressings of three classic releases: Charmed LifeWhiplash Smile, and the Don’t Stop EP, out August 15, 2025. In addition to limited-edition vinyl, all three are available in Atmos.

Back on vinyl once more, Charmed Life will be pressed on 2LPs for the first time, featuring standard black vinyl and an exclusive 35th Anniversary limited-edition lavender-colored vinyl. Meanwhile, Whiplash Smile returns to vinyl for the first time in decades, available as either a standard 1LP black vinyl or a limited-edition 1LP opaque tangerine color vinyl. Finally, “Don’t Stop” will be manufactured on 1LP standard black vinyl or a limited-edition lemon-yellow colored LP.

The Platinum-certified Charmed Life initially arrived on April 30, 1990. It soared to the Top 15 of the Billboard 200 and yielded fan favorites such as “Cradle of Love,” his stunning and soulful cover of The Doors’ “L.A. Woman,” and “Prodigal Blues.” Celebrating this seminal album, Idol notably just shared for the first time on his official YouTube channel the original 1990 video for “Prodigal Blues,” remastered in HD.  Preorder Charmed Life HERE

Its Platinum-certified predecessor, Whiplash Smile, first landed on October 20, 1986, vaulting to #6 on the Billboard 200. It impressively delivered a trio of Hot 100 hits, including “To Be A Lover,” “Don’t Need A Gun,” and “Sweet Sixteen.” Preorder Whiplash Smile HERE

Going back to where it all began in 1981, Idol’s solo debut Don’t Stop EP boasted “Mony Mony” and “Dancing with Myself.” Preorder Don’t Stop EP HERE

Earlier this year, Idol unveiled his first full-length album of new music in over a decade, Dream Into It, which debuted at #7 on the U.S. Top Albums Chart and #4 on the U.S. Current Rock Album Chart. The album makes its U.K. debut at #9 on the U.K. Official Album Sales Chart and is #2 on the German Top 100 Album Chart. Dream Into It continues to see extensive critical acclaim from The New Yorker, New York Magazine, AARP The Magazine, Consequence, Billboard, USA Today, and many more. See what the press has said and watch Idol’s appearances on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” (Performing his new single “77” feat. Avril Lavigne as well as discussing the new record with Kimmel) and “The Drew Barrymore Show” in the interactive one-sheet HERE.

Idol is also the subject of the new documentary film Billy Idol Should Be Dead, which just made its World Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. Directed by three-time Grammy-winner Jonas Åkerlund, Billy Idol Should Be Dead is a feature-length documentary tracing the life and career of the punk pioneer turned rock ‘n’ roll icon. Through never-before-seen archival and personal interviews with Idol, his family, peers and collaborators, the documentary digs deep into his emergence as a prototypical punk rocker, his meteoric rise as a global superstar in the MTV era and the myriad of challenges Idol had to overcome to not just survive, but to remain one of the most beloved figures in rock n roll, almost fifty years into his career.

Additionally, Idol is currently on the road for It’s a Nice Day To…Tour Again! Fellow superstar Joan Jett & the Blackhearts will join Idol on all shows. Produced by Live Nation, the run of arenas and amphitheaters includes stops at an array of storied venues including New York’s Madison Square Garden, Los Angeles’ Kia Forum, the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, Merriweather Post Pavilion in  Columbia, MD, and more. Tickets are available HERE; see below for a complete list of dates. GloRilla Unites with Gospel Icons in Triumphant “RAIN DOWN ON ME” Video

0

Grammy-nominated rapper and CMG superstar GloRilla leads a triumphant fellowship with all-star gospel greats Kirk Franklin, Kierra Sheard, Chandler Moore and Maverick City Music in her new music video for “RAIN DOWN ON ME.” In the jubilant video, directed by Benny Boom, the group praises in a sun-drenched scene as we see acts of charity, compassion, healing and baptism that culminate in a soul-stirring testimony.

The video premiere follows “RAIN DOWN ON ME,” from Glo’s RIAA Gold-certified 2024 album GLORIOUS and a No. 1 Hot Gospel Songs hit on Billboard, winning the Bobby Jones Award for Best Inspirational Performance at 2025 BET Awards. “It’s a blessing to get the gospel award first because I owe it all to God,” GloRilla said in her acceptance speech. To accompany her first BET Award win, Big Glo delivered a scorching medley of “LET HER COOK” and new single “Typa,” complete with a surprise Keyshia Cole cameo, mobster-era outfits, and a tap dance interlude that stole the show.

GloRilla’s newest wins double down on the superstar’s domination both on-stage and on the charts. Last week, “Typa” became her 13th entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and debuted immediately as her seventh top 10 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Plus, her feature on j-hope’s “Killin’ It Girl” is off to an explosive start, pulling 25 million Spotify streams in its first week. And following her headlining performances at the 2025 Hot 97 Summer Jam festival and Hot 107.9 Birthday Bash last weekend, GloRilla is set to astonish audiences at next month’s ESSENCE Festival of Culture – building toward her inaugural Glo Bash in her hometown of Memphis on July 25.

Under the guidance of CMG and label founder Yo Gotti, GloRilla reached new heights with her debut album, GLORIOUS, which arrived in October 2024 to widespread critical and commercial acclaim. It debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, earned the highest debut week for a female rapper in 2024 and was the year’s best-selling female rap album on the strength of hit records “TGIF,” “WHATCHU KNO ABOUT ME,” with Sexyy Red and “I LUV HER” with T-Pain. Momentum only continued with further hits “Yeah Glo!,” “Wanna Be,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion and a Top 10 Hot 100 entry via Tyler, The Creator’s all-star anthem “Sticky,” and a magical feature run in 2025 including standout appearances on j-hope’s “Killin’ It Girl,” Lil Baby’s “Red Bone,” Teddy Swims’ “She Got It,” and GELO’s “Can You Please.”

Earlier this year, GloRilla was honored with the ‘Powerhouse Award’ at Billboard’s Women in Music gala, cementing her place as one of hip-hop’s most electrifying voices.

Bob Dylan Announces First Art Book in a Decade, ‘Point Blank (Quick Studies)’

0

Bob Dylan has announced the release a new book of drawings titled Point Blank (Quick Studies) on November 18, the first major publication of his artwork in over a decade, featuring nearly 100 never-before-seen drawings.

Bob Dylan is a master at telling stories, creating moods and provoking feelings—not only in music and the written word but also in visual art, which he has been creating since the 1960s. This publication of his art features nearly 100 black-and-white drawings that were completed between 2021 and 2022 and served as the basis for his latest exhibition—also titled Point Blank—at London’s Halcyon Gallery in early 2025. The works vary between portraits, still lifes, and landscapes: roller-skating lovers, a suit of armor, a suspension bridge, a karaoke singer, a roll of Scotch tape, a Parisian canal, a man with a crooked smile. Accompanying the artwork are short prose vignettes written by Eddie Gorodetsky, Jackie Hamilton and Lucy Sante that further enhance the images’ evocativeness. Dylan’s ability to find beauty and mystery in the seemingly mundane is one of his great gifts—and the gift he’s continually given to the public over the years, including now with Point Blank.

‘Vinyl NYC: 33 1/3 of the Best Record Stores Across All Five Boroughs’ Celebrates the Soul of Music Shops

0

Perhaps there is nothing so modern as the vinyl record, its streamline design elegantly enclosed in a dazzling 12” cardboard sleeve that promises untold pleasures. For record collectors like the husband and wife photography team of James T. and Karla L. Murray, it all begins with the thrill of the hunt: a trip to the local record store.

Following the success of Store Front NYC and Great Bars of New York, the Murrays now team up with music journalist and critic Hattie Lindert for Vinyl NYC: 33 1/3 of the Best Record Stores Across All Five Boroughs (Prestel, September 9, 2025), the newest volume by husband-and-wife photography team James T. and Karla L. Murray devoted to the indelible Mom & Pop shops that form the heart and soul of New York . Taking inspiration from photographers Robert Polidori, Berenice Abbott, Bernd and Hilla Becher, cinematographer Christopher Doyle, and filmmaker Wong Kar-wai, the Murrays weave their signature exteriors, intimate interiors, and evocative environmental portraits with thoughtful profiles of proprietors and their shops for a panoramic look inside the city’s iconic indie record shops.

For more than a century, New York City’s independent record shops have stood at the heart of the neighborhoods they serve, becoming lovingly curated third spaces that foster community, creative inspiration, and cultural exchange. Vinyl NYC spotlights a wealth of local landmarks, such as Casa Amadeo, the oldest continuously-occupied Latin music store, which first opened its doors in the Longwood section of the Bronx back in 1941; Generation Records in Greenwich Village, which has been preserving punk history since 1992; and VP Records, which opened in Jamaica, Queens in 1979 and today is home to an eponymous record label that is the most prominent independent reggae imprints in the world.

In recent years, indie record stores have made their return to New York City’s streets as a new generation of collectors have embraced the distinctive pleasures of physical media. Vinyl NYC showcases newcomers like Blue-Sun (Williamsburg), Rebel Rouser (Bushwick), and Manhattan45 (East Village) to the fold, keeping the city current with the latest pressings that DJs break in their nightclub sets. The book also includes profiles of musicians who regularly frequent these stores, including producer and rapper Large Professor, DJ and nightclub owner Eli Escobar, and DJ and music supervisor Kristine Barilli.

For the Murrays, whose 2005 photograph of Jay Dee Bake Shop in Jackson Heights,  Queens (featured in Store Front NYC) was chosen as cover art for the 12” vinyl of J  Dilla’s “Give Them What They Want,” Vinyl NYC is the perfect marriage of their first  loves: music and photography. For anyone who has ever gazed at a record sleeve  while the vinyl spins with a mix of wonder and delight, or saved up all their money just to buy that 45 — this one’s for you.

JAMES T. AND KARLA L. MURRAY are husband-and-wife architectural and interior photographers based in Manhattan’s East Village. Their books include Great Bars of New York City and Store Front NYC. Their work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world and featured in numerous publications including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, New York magazine, and the New Yorker.

HATTIE LINDERT is a music journalist and critic based in Brooklyn. A former staff writer at Pitchfork, The A.V. Club, and People magazine.

The Lemonheads Return With First Album in 20 Years, ‘Love Chant’ And Announces World Tour

0

The Lemonheads have officially announced their first album of all-new original material in almost two decades, Love Chant, arriving via Fire Records on Friday, October 24.

Recorded at Sao Paulo’s A9 Audio with producer Apollo Nove (Rita Lee, Bebel Gilberto, Seu Jorge), Love Chant marks the welcome return of a justifiably legendary rock ‘n’ roll band, with founding singer-songwriter-guitarist Evan Dando joined by a bevy of dear friends and collaborators including J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr), Juliana Hatfield, Tom Morgan (as co-writer for “Deep End”), producer Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Antony and the Johnsons), Nashville’s Erin Rae, John Strohm of the Blake Babies co-wrote and played guitar on “Togetherness,” and Nick Saloman of The Bevis Frond (a songwriter and performer on the swirling psych-folk gem “Roky”). Adam Green of cult New York favorites The Moldy Peaches also contributes as co-writer on the loose-limbed country detour “Wild Thing.”

The album is heralded by today’s premiere of the hard-hitting new single, “In The Margin,” available everywhere alongside an official lyric video streaming now on YouTube. “In The Margin” is a classic Dando composition: half-broken, half-beautiful, wrapped around a melody that disarms before it detonates.

“I wanted to have a riffy song, so I wrote riffs all over it,” says Dando. “The body of the song was Marciana’s (Marciana Jones). It’s like a full-on 8th-grade girl revenge song: ‘Stupidly I left the escape plans out so they could find my way.'”

Love Chant also includes the recently released “Deep End,” available everywhere now. Co-written by Dando with longtime collaborator Tom Morgan of Smudge, the churning, riff-powered track – which features an instantly identifiable guitar solo from J Mascis and backing vocals from dear friend and frequent Lemonheads guest Juliana Hatfield – was met by worldwide attention upon its premiere last month by such high-profile publications as Rolling Stone, Billboard, Uncut, Stereogum, and Consequence, the latter of which praised its long-awaited reprise of the Lemonheads’ “scrappy, guitar-forward rock sound.”

Over the past few years, The Lemonheads’ influence has only deepened. Artists like MJ Lenderman, Courtney Barnett and Waxahatchee have all covered Dando’s songs, praising the emotional clarity, melodic instinct, and wry intimacy that define his writing. That resonance across generations makes Love Chant feel like more than a return – it’s a reminder of what made this band matter in the first place.

The Lemonheads with celebrate Love Chant with a marathon world tour, beginning this summer with a series of headline shows and top-billed festival appearances across the UK and Europe. North American dates get underway November 11 at Birmingham, AL’s WORKPLAY and then continue through a December 20 tour finale at Nashville, TN’s famed Basement East.
