Mick Ralphs, Co-Founder of Bad Company and Mott The Hoople, Dies at 81

0

Mick Ralphs, the influential guitarist, songwriter, and co-founder of the iconic rock bands Bad Company and Mott The Hoople, has passed away at the age of 81.

He is survived by the love of his life, Susie Chavasse, his two children, three step-children and his beloved bandmates Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke. He also leaves behind millions of devoted fans and friends across the world.

“Our Mick has passed, my heart just hit the ground. He has left us with exceptional songs and memories. He was my friend, my songwriting partner, an amazing and versatile guitarist who had the greatest sense of humour. Our last conversation a few days ago we shared a laugh but it won’t be our last. There are many memories of Mick that will create laughter. Condolences to everyone who loved him especially his one true love, Susie. I will see you in heaven.”  Love Paul

“He was a dear friend, a wonderful songwriter, and an exceptional guitarist. We will miss him deeply,”  Simon Kirke.

Paul Rodgers of Free first met Mick Ralphs in 1971. After an inspired jam session and a mutual sharing of songs, Ralphs made the bold decision to leave Mott The Hoople and form a new band with Rodgers, and Bad Company was born. Adding former King Crimson bassist/vocalist Boz Burrell and drummer Simon Kirke, the band was complete. With the help of Led Zeppelin’s legendary manager Peter Grant, Bad Company became the first band signed to Zeppelin’s Swan Song label.

The group’s success was meteoric. Their 1974 self-titled debut went five-times platinum, producing classic hits like “Can’t Get Enough” and “Movin’ On,” alongside electrifying rock anthems such as “Ready for Love,” “Rock Steady,” and the title track “Bad Company.”

In a fitting tribute to the band’s enduring influence, Bad Company will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later this year in 2025.

Ralphs gave his final performance with Bad Company on October 29, 2016, at London’s O2 Arena. Just days later, he suffered a debilitating stroke and remained bedridden until his passing.

Mick Ralphs leaves behind a powerful musical legacy that will continue to inspire generations.

FM Announce ‘Brotherhood’ UK Tour With Special Guests Rosalie Cunningham, Brave Rival & Jack J Hutchinson

0

FM are pleased to announce their “Brotherhood UK Tour” during September 2025. FM will perform songs from their past 14 albums including their 1986 debut album Indiscreet, plus Tough It Out, Metropolis, Synchronized, and their highly anticipated forthcoming studio album Brotherhood, plus many more.

Formed in the 80’s by the Overland brothers, FM have become one of the UK’s seminal rock bands. The band features Steve Overland (vocals), Merv Goldsworthy (bass), Pete Jupp (drums), Jem Davis (keyboards), and Jim Kirkpatrick (guitar).

“From our meeting in a Notting Hill pub in 1984 to our “one off” comeback gig at Firefest 2007, it’s great to now tour beyond our 40th Anniversary shows,” says FM’s drummer, Pete Jupp. “Who’d have thought we’d reach such a milestone?”

FM’s special guests are three hotly tipped artists including Brave Rival, and Jack J Hutchinson, and as previously mentioned, Rosalie Cunningham (who replaces Tygers of Pang Tang).

Rosalie Cunningham is a multiple award-winning singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who first came to prominence through her former bands Purson and Ipso Facto. In 2019, Rosalie embarked on her solo career, releasing her Mercury Music Prize nominated, eponymous debut album earning herself a Top 10 placing in the UK’s official independent chart, and received rave reviews from Classic Rock, Uncut, Mojo and Kerrang.

Rosalie built on her burgeoning reputation as an original, thought-provoking songwriter and musician with the release of her second solo album Two Piece Puzzle to universal acclaim in 2022. Reviews included: The Times – 4/5 ‘fantastic’; Powerplay – 10/10 ‘a heady mix… infused with Rosalie’s unique ability to entertain and enthral the listener’; Shindig – 5/5 ‘sexy, loud and bursting with ideas’; Uncut – 8/10 ‘dazzling’.

Throughout the remainder of that year and 2023, an extensive touring schedule taking in venues and festivals throughout the UK and Europe gave audiences the opportunity to experience Rosalie’s compelling, captivating and charismatic live performance.

In January 2023, these, together with the acclamation afforded to Two Piece Puzzle, culminated in her being named Female Vocalist of the Year by the readers of PROG magazine. In November 2024 she released her studio album To Shoot Another Day to ecstatic reviews.

Brave Rival are a rock band on a mission. No gimmicks, no frills-just raw, high-energy, riff-driven rock that demands to be heard.

Since forming in 2019, the Portsmouth-based quartet-vocalist Lindsey Bonnick, guitarist Ed ‘the Shred’ Clarke, bassist Billy Dedman, and drummer Donna Peters-have built a reputation as one of the UK’s most electrifying live acts. Their debut album Life’s Machine (2022) put them on the map, catching the attention of critics, fans, and even Joe Bonamassa, who called them one of his “favourite discoveries.”

Their 2024 follow-up, Fight or Flight, upped the stakes, earning a 9/10 review from Classic Rock Magazine, who hailed it as “an album packed with ambition, fire, and killer songs.” With massive hooks, blistering guitar work, and unstoppable energy, the album set the stage for their biggest year yet-festivals, headline tours, and sharing stages with rock legends FM.

Jack J Hutchinson is a British blues-rock firebrand, known for his soulful vocals, searing guitar work, and a sound that blends classic rock swagger with modern grit. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, and The Beatles, his music channels the raw energy of vintage blues-rock while keeping one foot firmly in the present.

Hutchinson’s love for rock ‘n’ roll was ingrained early-his childhood was sound-tracked by Exile on Main Street, Revolver, and The Beatles’ iconic red and blue albums. But it was discovering Jimmy Page as a teenager that sealed the deal. “I bought some dragon flares and never looked back,” he recalls.

With a reputation for electrifying live shows and albums packed with riffs, hooks, and deep grooves, Hutchinson continues to carve his own path in the blues-rock world, earning a dedicated following and critical acclaim along the way.

Colin Hay Revisits Men at Work Classic With New Version of “Blue For You” From Upcoming ‘Man @ Work Volume 2’

0

Former Men at Work front man and iconic singer/songwriter Colin Hay released the first single from his upcoming release Man @ Work Volume 2 today, a new recording of the reggae-inflected “Blue for You.” The song was originally released on Men at Work’s 1983 2nd hit album, Cargo. With its signature off beat guitar rhythm, the song addresses the tragedy of a relationship breakup and the struggle to move on: “Gotta form a plan of attack/Climb back on the track I know/Bid my devil friend good-bye.”

Reflecting on the inspiration for the song and where it stands for him today, Hay said it’s about: “the feeling of inertia, sadness and loneliness when what you once had is gone, never to return. The intense sadness is but a distant memory, now it’s just a cool song to sing in melodic melancholy.”

“Blue For You”will be included on Hay’s new collection Man @ Work Volume 2 set for release on July 18th. The album is the sequel to his 2002 best seller, Man @ Work, which recently received a two-star certification by the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) for sales in excess of 100,000 units, as tabulated by Luminate.

The upcoming release includes a mix of re-imagined favorites from across Hay’s rich catalog, including Men at Work classics, solo album highlights, and new material and will be released on July 18th via Compass Records.

Nervosa Unleash Ferocious 15th Anniversary Single “Smashing Heads” With Brutal New Video

0

Nervosa have released their brand new song “Smashing Heads”. The track marks the band’s first new music since they released the “Jailbreak” album in September 2023 via Napalm Records, which also marked a new chapter in the history of Nervosa as their first record featuring founding member Prika Amaral as permanent vocalist and guitarist.

With the addition of the immensely talented Helena Kotina as lead guitarist, Gabriela Abud on drums, Hel Pyre and Emmelie Herwegh on bass, Nervosa continue to set the thrash metal world ablaze, and their new single “Smashing Heads” makes no exception!

“This new single celebrates 15 years of Nervosa, a resume of our musical journey throughout these years, ” the band comments. “‘Smashing Heads’ is a special release to commemorate this milestone and close one chapter before we unleash something entirely new with our next album.”

“‘Smashing Heads’ talks about the obsession from the feelings that can drive you crazy. The sensation of being out of control because you can’t leave behind what you feel. Each of us has a different way to freak out and that is what you can see in our video clip,” says the band about the new song.

“We worked very hard to bring our vision and ideas about that. Gabriela is an actress and she helped a lot with the acting and with the conception of the video. We recorded on the basement of our studio and we are very happy with the results, but we can’t wait to bring a new album and more new songs.”

Initially announced at the end of April, the UK/European leg of the Thrash Of The Titans Tour was set to feature co-headliners Testament and Obituary, with special guests Destruction and Goatwhore.

On June 2, New Orleans-based extreme metal band Goatwhore announced their withdrawal from the trek by issuing the following statement:

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Goatwhore will no longer be performing on the Testament, Obituary & Destruction European Tour. We regret to share this news, and hope to return to Europe and North America very soon.”

Testament commented: “Although we’re bummed that Goatwhore couldn’t end up joining us, we’re stoked to now welcome Nervosa as our new special guest on the upcoming Thrash Of The Titans European Tour with our friends in Obituary and the mighty Destruction! Tour kicks off this October. Tickets are on sale now. Don’t miss out and we’ll see you in the pit!”

Nervosa shared the following message: “We are extremely happy to announce that we will be part of this dream tour with Testament, Obituary, and Destruction. We can’t wait!”

Offset and J.I.D. Ignite Summer With Cinematic New Single “Bodies,” Sampling Drowning Pool

0

GRAMMY Award-nominated, multi-platinum superstar Offset makes a strong summer return with “Bodies” featuring fellow Atlanta rap iconoclast J.I.D., out now on Motown Records. Produced by Vinylz and FNZ, the smooth track features an iconic sample: Drowning Pool’s 2001 hit, “Bodies.”

The new single also comes with a surreal yet dapper video creative directed by Offset himself, edited by Mikey Rare, and with styling by SheShe Pendleton. “‘Bodies’ is one of them ones I had to really take my time with. It’s about standing on who you are, coming out the mud, and being confident in the face of adversity. I’m always evolving, and I don’t fit in a box as an artist,” said Offset, “I’ve been cooking this up for a minute and I’m just getting started. J.I.D. is my guy and had the perfect energy to match ‘Bodies.’ Stay tuned because we going up.”

“Bodies” brings high-level intensity weaving together a haunting choir over a fresh take on the known sample (“Let the bodies hit the floor”). Over propulsive drums and an ominous piano, Offset showcases his bold artistry while rapping about his destiny: “I got choices this sh*t look like crayons … I fold a million dollars in two pockets … Sleeping and dreaming, talking to the rocket, he told me, ‘Go up,’ I told him that I got him.” J.I.D., complements “Bodies” with his own strikingly dynamic verse.

The “Bodies” video filmed in L.A. matches the song’s scope and tone, creating a rich visual that feels like a living painting. In style Offset leads a desert runway where suave models march down a red carpet in front of the candlelit choir. The grim reaper looms behind J.I.D., and Offset oversees cult-like devotees to receive his crown while seated on an elaborate throne.

Slick Rick and Idris Elba Unleash Cinematic Visual Album VICTORY in a Bold Return After 26 Years

0

Hip-hop’s most revered master storyteller and cultural pillar, Slick Rick releases the film for VICTORY, premiering now on YouTube. Joining creative forces with acclaimed multi-hyphenate Idris Elba, VICTORY is a visionary visual album released through Elba’s record label, 7Wallace, in collaboration with Mass Appeal.

Celebrating 26 years since The Ruler’s last album Victory is a triumphant new chapter – a sonic and cinematic tour de force that redefines the boundaries of storytelling, legacy and the power of imagination. Executive produced by The Poet (Slick Rick) and The Visionary (Idris Elba), the project features powerful collaborations with Nas and Giggs, along with a special contribution from Estelle.

At the heart of Victory, lies a 30-minute immersive film, directed by Meji Alabi (Black Dog Films)- the creative mind behind Beyonce’s Black Is King, which brings Victory to life through bold imagery and narrative depth. For the aesthetic vision, Slick Rick collaborated with legendary photographer Jonathan Mannion and brand storytellers Equator Studios. The music was mixed by Young Guru, with the album artwork and rollout developed in partnership with British agency PAQ and Rick’s own Team Eye Patch.

Meji Alabi says, “Collaborating with Slick Rick The Ruler on his first album in 26 years was incredible. Being able to create visuals to such a monumental piece and with a storyteller and icon like Slick Rick was an experience I’m going to cherish forever and can’t wait for the world to see what he has in store for them”.

Slick Rick says, “VICTORY is a tale of fiction for the mind. Part myth. Part Magic. Grab your snacks…and a cozy blanket and pretend you’re by a fireplace..Victory is sight, story, and sound dancing as one”.

Four years in the making, VICTORY was written and recorded between Rick’s birth place, London and in France, with its striking visuals filmed across three continents – the U.S., the UK, and Africa. The result is a cross-continental homage to Rick’s roots, enriched by lyrical depth, cinematic brilliance, and genre-defying artistry.

SmithField Pens a Heartfelt Homecoming With New Single “Take Me To Texas”

0

Country duo SmithField, hailing from Waxahachie, Texas, releases their most personal single yet, “Take Me To Texas.” With their genre-blending style, signature harmonies, and heartfelt lyrics, SmithField delivers an emotional love letter to the Lone Star State – a place that shaped not only their sound, but their story. From small-town stages to national acclaim, this new single is a full-circle moment that reconnects the duo with their Texas roots in the most powerful way.

Their perfectly blended voices continue to elevate one another, track after track – and “Take Me To Texas” is no exception. With soaring vocal ranges, emotional depth, and unmistakable chemistry, SmithField proves once again why they are carrying the torch for duos in country music, both past and present.

“We’ve tried to write a song about our home state for years but have never felt one was special enough to match how we feel about where we’re from until now. “Take Me To Texas” is a love letter to the roots that made Smithfield. Although it’s filled with all of the nostalgia and heart that we have for Texas, it’s for anyone who is proud of where they’re from.” said Jenn and Trey.

Narada Michael Walden Heats Up Summer With Disco Reimagining of “Hot Fun in the Summertime” Honoring Sly Stone

0

Superstar GRAMMY Award-winning musician and producer Narada Michael Walden dedicates his effervescent reimagining of “Hot Fun in the Summertime” to the legendary Sly Stone, who passed away earlier this month.

Custom-made for hot days and sizzling nights, this sweeping new version of the Sly and the Family Stone classic is the first single from Walden’s upcoming album, Still Yours For the Summer, due out in August.

“There’s a slew of originals I wrote for the album, and they’ve all got the summertime spirit,” Walden says. “I knew I wanted to do a remake, and my mind went to Nat King Cole’s ‘Lazy, Crazy Days of Summer,’ but every arrangement I tried sounded dated. Then my wife, Katie, suggested ‘Hot Fun in the Summertime,’ and it immediately made sense to me. Sly Stone has been and will always be a hero of mine. The same goes for his drummer, Greg Errico, who’s a good friend. I said to my wife, ‘I think I know what to do with that.'”

Walden sat down at the piano and started playing the same arrangement that he would soon record in the studio. Whereas the original 1969 hit conjured laid-back summer bliss, Walden’s idea of vacation jubilation is built around a driving disco beat. “It came to me right away,” he says. “I seized on the ‘hot fun’ aspect of the title, and to me that spelled disco. I wanted a song that could party!”

Producing at his own Tarpan Studios, Walden rocked the drums to a programmed rhythm (“always a combination I love”) and laid down a warm and inviting lead vocal; meanwhile, keyboardist Justus Dobrin provided zesty flourishes, and guitarist Jackson Allen peppered the track with breezy chords and a stinging solo. “We actually have three basses – Kirk Crumpler does some brilliant popping, and there’s additional bass by Jim Reitzel and me on synth bass,” Walden notes.

With its shimmering, vibrant strings and the rousing background vocals of Cornel “CC” Carter, Nate’ the Soulsanger, Katie Walden and Kristie Isaacsen, “Hot Fun in the Summertime” (engineered by Jim Reitzel and Josh Nelson) evokes ’70s dance floor nostalgia while simultaneously sounding every bit 2025. It’s the perfect soundtrack for months of sunscreen and sunglasses, beaches and boardwalks. “I can’t wait for people to turn this one up,” Walden enthuses. “Like the title says, it’s hot fun. And it’s all dedicated to the one and only genius of Sly Stone. He’s a musical master like no other!”

Walden plans to issue “a waterfall of singles” ahead of Still Yours For the Summer. Following “Hot Fun in the Summertime” is a complete change of pace – the deep-grooving, power-packed R&B winner “Bougie Cherry Bomb.”

“It’s got a bit of a Bruno Mars vibe,” Walden says, “meaning how Bruno can pay homage to an earlier time of funk, but he’s still right now. I do the same thing – I love mixing the two worlds.”

He blends galaxies with a remake of his 1979 hit, “I Shoulda Loved Ya,” remixed by a frequent collaborator, famed Italian hitmaker Lino Nicolosi. Walden also reveals that the 2025 “I Shoulda Loved Ya” will feature a duet with a young TikTok star, whose identity will be revealed soon. “It’s going to be incredible,” he says. “I can’t wait to get it out into the world.”

Kicking off Still Yours For the Summer with the June release of “Hot Fun in the Summertime” has special resonance for Walden. As he notes, “We put out Aretha Franklin’s ‘Freeway of Love’ in June, and it exploded. Let’s do it again with music for the summer experience. Tops down, beach radios everywhere! Summertime is the celebration of life! And let’s all celebrate Sly Stone, who created music that changed the world!”
