Ahead of his performance on Later… with Jools Holland this weekend (10PM, BBC2) and 6-night headline residency at London’s Royal Albert Hall this summer (29th June – 4th July 2025), the ground-breaking composer and pianist Ludovico Einaudi today announces a very special project that has been a long time in the making: Einaudi vs Einaudi.
Ludovico has collaborated with his son, the multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, producer, and arranger Leo Einaudi, for a rework of Ludovico’s latest chart-topping album The Summer Portraits.
Having composed from a very young age, Leo Einaudi has built a diverse career spanning songwriting, film composition, production and live music. Over the years, Leo has collaborated with Ludovico Einaudi numerous times, contributing to film scores and multidisciplinary projects across theatre as well as recorded music. This unique, long-standing creative partnership has now culminated in this new body of work, in which Leo remixes eight mesmerising tracks.
Ludovico explains, “For several years now, I have been engaged in a musical exchange with Leo, collaborating on various projects, films, and more. There has always been a strong understanding between us, and in addition to having a musical sensibility very close to mine, Leo possesses an artistic sensitivity that I perceive as deeply personal. This is why ‘Einaudi vs Einaudi’ offers a renewed perspective on my original versions, bringing a fresh interpretation to the pieces while preserving their spirit.”
Leo adds, “From the outset of our musical connection, working with my father has always been marked by a deep sense of complicity and a true symbiosis of ideas. What has always amazed me is how natural our collaboration felt. Reimagining his songs happened with that same ease — it became a journey of constant discovery through the endless details at the heart of his music. It allowed me to see new sides of it, to let those elements enter my own imagination, and to shape them into a new form — one that respects their essence while giving them a new life.”
The Summer Portraits, released at the beginning of this year (giving Ludovico his 13th No.1 in the Official UK Classical Album Chart), is the result of a cascade of personal memories triggered by sun, summer and family holidays. On ‘Einaudi vs Einaudi’ Leo Einaudi takes the lush sound and subtle electronica of tracks such as first single ‘Rose Bay’ and enhances it still. Here, driving rhythms penetrate the stillness of the original track, offering another side to the hypnotic piece and taking the immersive sound and textures to another place.
Grammy-nominated harpist Brandee Younger has released Gadabout Season, her third album for Impulse! Records. Hailed byThe New York Times as a “a persuasive argument for the vast potential of her instrument” and praised by The Financial Times for “[moving] a niche jazz tradition into a contemporary mainstream path,” Gadabout Season finds the NAACP Award Winner and newly-minted Doris Duke Artist Awardee reflective and exploratory on what is hermost personal project to date, on which she has written or co-written nearly every composition.
“The album reflects the journey — the search for meaning and beauty amid life’s most complex moments, ultimately emerging with a deeper sense of self,” says Younger. “Musically Gadabout Season is more creative and slightly more cerebral than my other works.”
Prompted by a word-of-the-day email while on tour, Younger and her bandmates, bassist-producer Rashaan Carter and drummer Allan Mednard took inspiration from the word “gadabout” – a carefree pleasure-seeker who is always in motion, seeking out fun no matter the circumstances. The word of the day turned into the word of the tour, and seemed to describe their mission. These three simpatico travelers, whose shared history as trusted collaborators reaches back two decades, were always chasing and finding joy both onstage and off — through music, art, food and new experiences.
For Younger especially that joy was a healing force, so the gadabout concept acted as a helpful reminder that life’s challenges happen to everyone. “When it came time to write a piece to represent happiness, ‘Gadabout Season’ felt like the perfect title, ” says the harpist, a Grammy nominee and NAACP Image Award winner who has garnered widespread acclaim for her soulful, spiritual meld of jazz, R&B and hip-hop’s essence.
Known for her revelatory interpretations of harp legends Alice Coltrane and Dorothy Ashby, Younger now steps boldly into her own compositional voice, crafting music that carries her forebears’ language forward without paying direct tribute.
“This writing process forced me to be completely honest,” she says. “I’m not hiding behind someone else’s work.” Self-taught as a composer, Younger draws instinctively from a hybrid of influences — jazz, classical, old-school R&B, and hip-hop. Younger wrote most of this new music at her cousin’s cabin in bucolic upstate New York — a place where she could focus and where “you get a lot of peace and quiet and birds chirping and you can see the stars at night,” she says. Eventually, Carter and, later, Mednard joined her to workshop the new tunes, and the game plan coalesced: Carter would produce and engineer the entire album himself at Younger’s Harlem apartment. The bassist turned Younger’s second bedroom into a makeshift studio, and Gadabout Season was tracked over several months in the second half of 2024.
“I’m used to doing one and done in the studio,” Younger says. “This recording process was slow and intentional, allowing the sound of the album to reveal itself over time and mirroring a journey of discovery.” The trio dedicated time at the end of each session to sketching out ideas and improvising, which led to the tracks “Reckoning,” “Discernment,” and “End Means.”
Along the way, Younger found transcendence in an instrument she calls “life-changing”: the harp that belonged to Alice Coltrane. Younger became its custodian last year, after it’d been restored in honor of “The Year of Alice,” a series of high-profile releases, events, and exhibits co-sponsored by Impulse! Reflecting on how the harp’s energy guided her performances, Younger explains that it took time before her comfort matched the instrument’s majesty and power.
“It had to become my own,” she says. “This was not my first time playing the harp, but as this new music was unique to me, I had to become one with it at home.”Gadabout Season also showcases Younger’s evolving use of electronic textures and extended harp techniques, culminating in what producer Carter describes as an “Afrofuturist sonic palette.” Additional sonic brilliance arrives courtesy of some extraordinary guests. The alternately dreamlike and inquisitive title track — an expression of Younger’s fun, quirky “external personality” — features vibraphonist Joel Ross and Makaya McCraven on percussion, as well as Shabaka drawing clarinet lines atop the staccato groove.
“Surrender” was written for and features pianist-composer and MacArthur Fellow Courtney Bryan, a frequent Younger collaborator who shares the harpist’s rich church background, as well as her willingness to bring a church spirit to any musical context. Inspired by Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols, “Surrender” summons up that moment of “going to the altar and giving all,” says Younger.
“To me, this is the most revealing piece on the album. It’s about seeking solace in quiet surrender.” Another highlight, “BBL,” is both airy and laced with a smoldering tension. “I think of it as a musical confrontation,” Younger says. “If it had lyrics, it would have an advisory warning. I left no room for a civil conversation.” At the recommendation of Younger’s friend and collaborator
Meshell Ndegeocello, saxophonist Josh Johnson contributed to “Discernment,” where his dubby harmonies imagine classic soul in a psychedelic haze. Shabaka also lends his flute to the ether of “End Means,” and his presence here comes on the heels of his own recent Impulse! release, Perceive its Beauty, Acknowledge its Grace, on which Younger appears.
“I think of us as being part of the Impulse! continuum,” the harpist says. Gadabout Season is a welcome new development in the Impulse! story, bolstering the label’s reputation for fearless original music from generation-defining voices. “When you take a step back and look at what was and what is now,” Younger reflects, “it’s really kind of beautiful.”
Among the most celebrated jazz artists to emerge in the 21st century, Brandee Younger is a harpist, composer, and bandleader whose music connects spiritual jazz and classical training to the rhythmic soulfulness of R&B and hip-hop. She grew up on Long Island, where she sang gospel, studied the harp classically, and became enamored of both hip-hop and the vintage soul that rap producers sampled. When Younger was a teenager, her father introduced her to Alice Coltrane’s music — a transformative moment that all but defined her life’s journey. In Coltrane and, later, Dorothy Ashby, Younger saw two strong, empowering Black women whose brilliance on the harp inspired Younger to stake her own claim on jazz history. Over the past two decades, Younger has honored these two artistic heroines while carving a singular path. On top of recording their music, she has collaborated with John and Alice Coltrane’s son Ravi, a spellbinding saxophonist, and with iconic figures in the Coltrane legacy, like the late Pharoah Sanders. Along the way, she’s also become a go-to player in popular music, contributing to projects and performances by Ms. Lauryn Hill, Beyoncé, Stevie Wonder, the Roots, Common, John Legend, and many others.
As the New Yorker wrote, “Her radiant playing is as cogent on hip-hop and R&B albums as it is set against classical and jazz backdrops.”Her first LP for the storied Impulse! Records label — a.k.a. The House That Trane Built — was 2021’s Somewhere Different. A track from that album, “Beautiful Is Black,” earned Younger a Grammy nomination in the Best Instrumental Composition category, making her the first Black female solo artist to achieve this. Two years later, on Brand New Life, Younger revitalized newly discovered Ashby compositions, and that LP won the 2024 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Jazz Album. Gadabout Season, released in 2025, is a more reflective and personal work focusing on Younger’s inimitable original music. In addition to her non-stop performance schedule, Younger is a dedicated educator, teaching on the faculties of New York University and the New School.

Miami-based label Armada Music proudly presents “For Your Love,” the latest single from Ape Drums, featuring contributions from Eli Fola and BL SUEDE. Dropping this Friday, the track showcases Ape Drums’ signature progressive Afro tech sounds, fused with Eli Fola’s Afro-house, techno, jazz, and classical hybrid sound, resulting in a transcendent dancefloor anthem.
“For Your Love” seamlessly bridges global influences, blending hypnotic beats, soulful instrumentation, and infectious energy. Known for his boundary-pushing approach to music, Ape Drums draws inspiration from pioneers like Steve Angello, Swedish House Mafia, Carl Cox, and Erick Morillo. His breakout moment came in 2014, when RL Grimebooked him for HARD Day of the Dead, marking a pivotal turning point in his career. Now a key contributor to the next wave of Major Lazer’s sound, Ape Drums continues to release new singles monthly. At the heart of his artistry lies his commitment to creating music that feels good—music that not only moves him but connects deeply with audiences.
Complementing Ape Drums’ innovative style is Eli Fola, the pioneer of Yoruba Tech Soul, who layers Afro-house grooves with jazz and classical influences, and BL SUEDE, who adds modern textures and heartfelt energy, completing the dynamic collaboration.
As a standout track in this summer’s dancefloor soundscape, “For Your Love” is set to become a global favorite, solidifying Ape Drums’ reputation as a leader in dance music innovation. Fans can expect the single to resonate on stages worldwide, continuing Armada Music’s legacy of genre-defining releases.
Eric Alberto-Lopez, professionally known as Ape Drums, is a genre-bending DJ and producer whose journey from cassette tape daydreams to global festival stages has been anything but ordinary. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, the Mexican-American artist first fell in love with music at an early age, obsessively dissecting tracks while listening to music and teaching himself how songs were built. Fascinated by the sounds and structures of the songs he grew up listening to, he taught himself how to arrange music—long before he had access to proper gear. He always had a sense of what people wanted to hear, instinctively tailoring his ideas to move the crowd.
Originally dreaming of becoming a scratch DJ, Ape Drums shifted his path after watching The Martinez Brothers—two young Latin kids just like him—DJing on gear he had never seen before. It was 2008, and something clicked. Deep-diving into the world of electronic music and EDM culture, he began building his career, driven by the belief that he, too, could make it. What started as a duo project with a friend, eventually became Eric’s solo artistic identity. He got an early boost connecting with the Major Lazer crew via Twitter, all while building his own global presence through solo world tours as Ape Drums, known for his high-energy dancehall and dance music sets. His momentum and unique sound eventually caught Major Lazer’s attention, leading to collaborations and opening slots at their shows.
That relationship flourished over time, and in 2019, Ape Drums was officially asked to join the group. For him, being part of Major Lazer isn’t just a creative collaboration—it’s an immersive experience. From the high-energy shows to the behind-the-scenes lessons on navigating life on tour, it’s a chapter he considers one of the most enriching of his career.
Now based in Miami, Ape Drums has spent the last eight years sharpening his sound and redefining his identity. While he first made waves producing Caribbean-influenced electronic music, his evolution has taken him through EDM and now into a bold new era of Afro-tech and Afro-house. His sound is darker, rawer, and globally inspired. Though Mexican music was always around him, he grew up listening to a wide range of genres—from heavy metal and rock en español to R&B and ’90s dance music—all of which helped shape his ear and spark his early passion for production. Over time, he began chasing new textures and cultural hybrids, blending reggaeton, funk, and electronic elements to craft a sound that’s distinctly his own. Ape Drums credits much of his artistic vision to dance. His first passion was breakdancing, and it taught him to feel music in his body before ever producing it. That intuitive sense of rhythm continues to guide his creative process today.
Multi-platinum Maryland quartet All Time Low – Alex Gaskarth, Jack Barakat, Rian Dawson and Zack Merrick — known for their anthemic, inimitable sound and fiercely loyal fanbase, embark on a bold new era with the release of “SUCKERPUNCH,” out now via their own imprint, Basement Noise Records, in partnership with Photo Finish Records/Virgin Music Group. Sonically all arena-rock bombast and lyrically sentimental, “SUCKERPUNCH” — co-produced by frontman Gaskarth alongside Dan Swank — signals a thrilling new chapter for the rock outfit, who have sold more than 3.5 million albums in the U.S. alone and have garnered over 5 billion streams worldwide to date.
“‘SUCKERPUNCH’ is a song about getting knocked down so many times that you learn to wear your bruises like badges,” Gaskarth says. “The music and tone of the song are so intentionally steeped in overconfident swagger, while the lyrics tell a very different story about stepping into the ring with an opponent twice your size, waiting for the bell to ring with a smile on your face. It’s saying ‘I have been so many different things for you, why not be your punching bag as well?’ I wanted to marry the grit and punch of an arena rock song with moments of Quincy Jones and Genesis… That culminated in a song that felt like kicking the door down, so we knew this had to come out first.”
All Time Low have additionally released the official music video for “SUCKERPUNCH” which, like the song itself, is both electrifying and sentimental. The video made its broadcast premiere on MTV Live, MTVU, MTV Biggest Pop and on the Paramount Times Square billboards today and centers on “Axel,” a legendary stuntman who looks back at the most death-defying stunt of his career.
All Time Low head out on tour this fall for a just-announced nationwide headline run. Produced by Live Nation, their EVERYONE’S TALKING! It’s been a momentous era for All Time Low: in addition to working on new music, the band celebrated its 20th anniversary last year with the release of The Forever Sessions Vol. 1 album via their own imprint – Basement Noise Records – launched in partnership with Photo Finish Records/Virgin Music Group. The new LP featured re-recordings of the band’s greatest hits from the early part of their career including “Dear Maria, Count Me In (ATL’s Version).”
Since their inception in 2003, All Time Low have shattered records, topped charts, sold out arenas and carved out a fervent fanbase along the way. Their catalog consists of five consecutive Top 10 albums on the Billboard Top 200 in addition to picking up multi-platinum, platinum, and gold certifications. Speaking to their impact, Rolling Stone named So Wrong, It’s Right, among its “50 Greatest Pop Punk Albums.” In 2020, they ascended to a new commercial and critical high watermark with their eighth full-length LP, Wake Up, Sunshine. Following a #1 debut on the Top Rock Albums chart, it spawned the biggest hit of the band’s career thus far, “Monsters” [feat. blackbear]. It clinched #1 on the Billboard Alternative Airplay Chart for an unprecedented 18 weeks, emerging as the longest-charting song ever at the Modern Rock format. In addition to going platinum, it notably garnered “Alternative Rock Song of the Year” at the 2022 iHeartRadio Music Awards, while superstar Demi Lovato teamed up with the group for the Official Remix.
The band also captivated audiences with explosive sets at Bonnaroo and Firefly, along with unforgettable appearances on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Ellen, Good Morning America, and more.

They say you can choose your bandmates, but you can’t choose your family — unless, of course, your family is your band. From onstage harmonies to offstage squabbles, here are 20 bands that kept it all in the family.
AC/DC Australian rock legends AC/DC were powered by the electric bond between brothers Angus and Malcolm Young. With Angus in a schoolboy uniform and Malcolm riffing hard in the background, they defined the sound of stadium-sized rock forever.
The Avett Brothers Scott and Seth Avett built their band on roots, heartache, and harmonies that hit like handwritten letters. Their blend of folk, punk, and Americana is a family affair that feels like a porch jam that got out of hand in the best way.
Bee Gees The Brothers Gibb — Barry, Robin, and Maurice — gave disco its heartbeat and soft rock its soul. From “Stayin’ Alive” to “How Deep Is Your Love,” they harmonized like angels… with fabulous hair.
The Beach Boys Brian, Carl, and Dennis Wilson turned Southern California into a sonic paradise. Add cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine, and you’ve got the most iconic family barbecue ever set to wax.
The Black Crowes Chris and Rich Robinson gave rock fans blues-drenched swagger and a front-row seat to their sibling rivalry. The Crowes fought, flew, broke up, made up — and made killer music in between.
The Breeders Kim and Kelley Deal brought grunge a dose of off-kilter beauty and distortion-rich anthems. When Kim wasn’t busy with Pixies, she and Kelley turned “Cannonball” into an alt-rock war cry.
The Carpenters Richard and Karen Carpenter brought tenderness and harmony to pop with songs that wrapped around your heart like a warm blanket. Karen’s voice was one in a million — and Richard was the orchestral engine behind it all.
Creedence Clearwater Revival John and Tom Fogerty led one of the most iconic American rock bands of the late ’60s, delivering swampy hits like “Bad Moon Rising” and “Fortunate Son.” While their creative chemistry was undeniable, their personal tensions eventually boiled over—proving once again that rock and roll and family can be a volatile mix.
The Cribs The Jarman brothers — Gary, Ryan, and Ross — gave indie rock a shot of raw energy straight from Wakefield, UK. Their DIY ethos and wild stage presence made them underground darlings.
HAIM Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim took Fleetwood Mac vibes and made them modern. Their bond as sisters is half the magic — the other half is undeniable groove, charm, and bass face.
Heart Ann and Nancy Wilson brought thunder and tenderness to rock, becoming one of the most powerful sister duos in music history. From “Barracuda” to “Alone,” they didn’t just break the mold — they melted it with soaring vocals and face-melting guitar solos.
INXS While Michael Hutchence was the charismatic frontman, it was brothers Tim, Andrew, and Jon Farriss who formed the band’s backbone. Their Aussie rock swagger ruled MTV and arenas alike.
The Kinks Ray and Dave Davies took British rock to sneering, snarling new heights. Between hits like “You Really Got Me” and legendary onstage fights, they set the gold standard for brotherly love… and guitar riffs that could split a pub in two.
The Jesus and Mary Chain Scottish brothers Jim and William Reid made feedback an art form. Their fuzz-drenched sound and moody cool helped define shoegaze before shoegaze had a name — and yes, they’ve broken up and reunited more times than you can count.
Kings of Leon Three Followill brothers (Caleb, Nathan, and Jared) plus cousin Matthew turned Southern garage rock into global anthems. Who knew a family jam in Nashville would lead to “Sex on Fire”?
Oasis Liam and Noel Gallagher may have made beautiful music, but their backstage brawls were just as legendary. “Wonderwall”? Timeless. Their family dinners? Probably best avoided.
Paramore While not always front-and-center, brothers Josh and Zac Farro were key to Paramore’s early rise. Zac’s return to the band brought rhythm, fire, and a little extra sibling spark to the mix.
Radiohead Colin and Jonny Greenwood are more than just brothers — they’re half of one of the most important bands of the last 30 years. Jonny makes guitars weep and synths tremble, while Colin lays down the foundation.
The Staves Jessica, Camilla, and Emily Staveley-Taylor are the British sisters who make harmonies so heavenly, they sound like a single voice echoing through a forest. Their folk-pop is both intimate and epic.
Tegan and Sara Canada’s indie-pop queens, identical twins Tegan and Sara Quin, turn life’s awkward, emotional roller coasters into anthems. Whether acoustic or electro-pop, their connection is unmistakable.
Turns out sibling rivalry makes for great songwriting — and even better stories.
