In 2021, the band released their record Dearly Beloved, with singles “World On Fire,” “Heavy Is The Crown,” and “Changes Are Coming,” all cracking the Top 10. Conan Gray Drops New Single “This Song” and Announces Fall 2025 Wishbone Pajama Show Tour

0

Today, multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter, Conan Gray, releases his new single and accompanying music video for “This Song” from his forthcoming album Wishbone arriving August 15 via Republic Records.  In addition, he announces a Fall 2025 tour, The Wishbone Pajama Show, kicking off in September.

Pre-order / Pre-save Wishbone HERE.

Conan Gray: The Wishbone Pajama Show with special guest hemlocke springs, will kick off on September 11 making stops across the U.S. including his first performance at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre on October 6. The tour concludes with Conan’s Mexico debut (support TBA), including headlines in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey. Full tour routing for the Live Nation promoted tour is below. Fans can sign up for the Artist Presale now through June 1 at 10PM PT at conangray.lnk.to/tour. The Artist Presale will begin June 3 at 10am local time and run through June 5 at 9am local time. The general on sale will begin June 5th at 10 am local time.  Conan will be performing music from the anticipated forthcoming album Wishbone for the first-time on-stage, it’s a show you won’t want to miss!

Yesterday, Conan announced The Wishbone Pajama Show to his 7.4 million Instagram followers (see here), where he encouraged fans to dress up, saying “pack your sailor caps and pajama pants… pajamas encouraged but not required.”

“This Song”, written by Conan Gray and produced by Ethan Gruska (Phoebe Bridgers) marks a new era and marked evolution for the singer-songwriter who has been touted as one of the most impactful songwriters of his generation. The official music video is directed by Danica Kleinknecht (Mk.Gee) and co-stars Corey Fogelmanis.  Filmed in Texas, the single’s accompanying visual is a heartbreakingly beautiful and intimate depiction of unspoken desire.

Much like his first two albums, Conan wrote all the songs on the album from his bedroom and has reunited with Grammy Award winning longtime collaborator Dan Nigro, who executive produced Wishbone.  As a longtime collaborator, Dan Nigro has worked with Conan since 2018 including his multi-platinum selling hits “Heather” and “Maniac”.  In addition, Conan worked with Ethan GruskaNoah ConradLuka Kloser and Elvira as producers on Wishbone.

On WishboneConan Gray returns to his singer-songwriter roots after falling in love for the first time, showcasing his creative talents more than ever before.

After North-Carolina artist hemlocke springs (aka Isimeme “Naomi” Udu) posted a TikTok that featured her dancing with awkward enthusiasm to her soon-to-be hit “Girlfriend,” her profile rapidly skyrocketed. Her charming eccentricity and daydreamer persona positioned her as relatable enough for the average listener to buy into, but still strangely iconoclastic enough to be more than just another bedroom TikTok singer. She went on to release a slew of strong singles that evoked a wide range of genres: 2010s indie pop, the cyber-inflected funk of the 1980s Depeche Mode, the bouncing rhythms of Timbaland and The Neptunes, with her beloved Kate Bush at the helm as a huge musical inspiration. All of this culminated in a well-received EP ‘going … going … GONE!’ and a series of memorable music videos that developed springs’s aesthetic of lovably twee chaos, establishing fans among the likes of Chappell Roan, Doja Cat (who she supported on DC’s headline tour summer 24), Grimes, and Steve Lacy. hemlocke is currently in the studio working on her debut LP.

Nobody has tapped into the thoughts and feelings of this era quite like Conan Gray has. The Texas native has transformed into theGen Z singer-songwriter by never losing sight of where he came from, still writing songs in his bedroom, hand-drawing his art, and designing a world without comparison. 2020 saw him leave an indelible imprint on popular culture with his full-length debut LP, Kid Krow. Produced by longtime collaborator and GRAMMY® Award winner Dan Nigro, it bowed at #5 on the Billboard 200, went Platinum, and yielded a series of signature smashes, including the 4x-Platinum “Heather,” 3x-Platinum “Maniac,” and Gold-Certified “Comfort Crowd,” “The Story,” “Wish You Were Sober,” and “The Cut That Always Bleeds.” Among these staples, he entered rarified air with “Heather,” becoming “one of a handful of songs with 2 billion streams penned by one writer (Conan). With 12 billion total streams to date, Conan returned to the top of the charts with Superache [2022] and Found Heaven [2024]. Moreover, he has incited the applause of The New York TimesRolling StoneVogueGQV ManPAPERThe FADERBillboard, and NPR in addition to performing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy FallonLate Night with Seth MeyersTODAY, and more. He has taken flight as an arena headliner, selling out hallowed venues such as Madison Square Garden. A fixture at events like the Met Gala, Conan’s just as uncompromisingly influential as a style icon, embracing a fashion-forward aesthetic like no other. Beyond thriving as a songwriter, he serves as the core creative director, shaping every layer of his vision down to creating cover art and co-directing music videos. He turns the page on his next chapter in 2025 with his fourth full-length album, Wishbone [Republic Records], beginning with the single “This Song.”

The Beat of Slot Machines: Resonance of Gambling and Music

0

By Mitch Rice

The casino floor is a symphony of sights and sounds, a carefully orchestrated environment designed to captivate and engage. Among the flashing lights and the murmur of crowds, the distinct auditory landscape of slot machines plays a crucial, often underestimated, role. The music, jingles, and sound effects that emanate from these “one-armed bandits” are not mere embellishments; they are integral components that shape the player’s experience, influencing emotions, behavior, and the overall allure of gambling. With this in mind, let’s talk about the intricate relationship between the beat of slot machines and the resonance of gambling and music.

Crafting Immersive Worlds

Modern slot games are often elaborate thematic experiences, transporting players to ancient Egypt, mythical lands, futuristic cities, or even into the worlds of popular movies and TV shows. Music and sound design are paramount in establishing and reinforcing these themes. For instance, a slot game with an ancient Egyptian theme might feature mystical melodies and the sounds of shifting sands, while a Western-themed game could incorporate guitar riffs and harmonica tunes. This thematic coherence, achieved through carefully selected audio elements, enhances player immersion, making the gaming experience more captivating and emotionally resonant. The goal is to make players feel as if they are part of the game’s narrative, deepening their engagement. If you’re looking for diverse gaming experiences with rich thematic soundscapes, you can check out gamechampions for gaming options.

The Psychology of Sound

The sounds emanating from slot machines are meticulously crafted to tap into player psychology. Upbeat, high-tempo music can evoke excitement and encourage faster play, while slower, more melodic tunes might induce relaxation and prolong gaming sessions. Winning sounds, often characterized by high-pitched, major-mode melodies with chimes and coin-clattering effects, are particularly significant. These sounds trigger the brain’s reward system, releasing dopamine and creating a sense of pleasure and achievement, even for small wins. This positive reinforcement is a powerful motivator, encouraging continued play. Conversely, losing sounds are rarely emphasized, contributing to an environment where the perception of winning is amplified.

Sound Design and the Near Miss

A significant psychological aspect of slot machine design is the “near-miss” effect – when the outcome is close to a win, such as two out of three jackpot symbols aligning. Sound design plays a crucial role in amplifying the emotional impact of these near misses. Specific audio cues can build tension and anticipation as the reels slow down, making the player feel that a big win is imminent. Even when a near miss results in a loss, the preceding sounds can create a heightened sense of excitement and encourage further play, as the player feels they are “close” to winning. This careful orchestration of sound keeps players engaged and hopeful.

The Allure of Branded and Musician-Themed Slots

A growing trend in the slot machine industry is the development of games themed around famous musicians, bands, and entertainment franchises. These slots leverage the pre-existing popularity and emotional connection fans have with these artists and brands. Games featuring icons like Jimi Hendrix, Guns N’ Roses, Michael Jackson, Motörhead, and even pop groups like *NSYNC, incorporate their hit songs and recognizable imagery. For fans, playing these slots offers a multi-sensory experience, combining the thrill of gambling with the pleasure of listening to their favorite music.

How Music Influences Playtime and Spending

The carefully curated soundscapes of slot machines can subtly influence how long individuals play and potentially how much they wager. The continuous loop of stimulating sounds, combined with the absence of clocks and external windows in many physical casinos, can distort the perception of time, leading to longer play sessions. Fast-paced music may prompt quicker betting, while more ambient, relaxing tunes can encourage leisurely, extended play. Several studies have indicated that sound, in general, makes the gaming session more arousing and that players often prefer playing with sound on, although a TapResearch study found 91% of people asked said they preferred the sound off while playing.

Awareness in an Immersive Environment

The same auditory techniques that create excitement and reinforce play can, for some individuals, contribute to compulsive or addictive behaviors. The constant positive reinforcement from winning sounds, even for “losses disguised as wins” (where the payout is less than the bet), can create a skewed perception of success. Recognizing this, some discussions in the industry and among researchers highlight the need for responsible gaming initiatives, which includes designing sounds that are engaging but not overly manipulative and providing players with options to control or mute audio.

The beat of slot machines is far more than just background noise; it is a powerful, scientifically informed tool that shapes the entire gambling experience. The resonance between gambling and music is a complex interplay of psychology, technology, and entertainment, a symphony meticulously composed to keep players engaged and the reels spinning. As technology continues to evolve, with advancements like 3D audio and virtual reality on the horizon, the auditory dimension of slot machines is set to become even more intricate and influential.

The tour announcement closely follows a pair of sold out release parties in Los Angeles and New York, where Aminé and friends celebrated the release of the new album and debuted the songs live for the first time since its release. 13 Months of Sunshine‘s title is a play on the Gregorian 13-month calendar that Aminé’s native Ethiopia and Eritrea follow, as well as a direct reference to the Western marketing campaigns to entice tourists to visit Ethiopia in the 60’s and 70’s. “They came up with this slogan to show people that there was so much more to Ethiopia than what is advertised,” the rapper shared, “I related so heavily to it, because on this album, I am showing that there’s so much more than what everyone assumes about my music—myself included.” Guided by intimate conversations with family members, specifically his father, and the strong ties to his East African heritage, 13 Months of Sunshine sees the rapper reevaluate his meteoric success and the legacy he wants to leave behind through intentional storytelling.

Executive produced by Dahi (Ravyn Lenae, SZA, Kendrick Lamar), every line on the 16-song album passes the “small reading room test” through lyrics that he “would be proud to read, without music and in front of 30 people,” Aminé explains, “Every line had to pass that test.” From the Waxahatchee-featuring indie pop beauty of “History” to the psych-synth invocation of Toro y Moi-assisted album closer “Images” on 13 Months of Sunshine, the rapper presents his most exacting vision to date as well as a ferocious appetite as both a listener and curator of sound.

Los Straitjackets Return with New Album ‘Somos Los Straitjackets’ and Upcoming Tours

0

Rock’n’roll stalwarts Los Straitjackets have announced their new album Somos Los Straitjackets will release on September 19th through Yep Roc Records. Their first new record of all-original material since 2012’s Jet Set, Somos Los Straitjackets was produced by Alex Hall (JD McPherson, The Cactus Blossoms) and demonstrates why they have reigned as the kings of modern instrumental rock for over thirty years. The masked quartet also shared their thrilling new single “High Wire Act,” a nostalgic, suspenseful track with retro surf-attack hooks and a raucous, spry groove.

“This is one of those lucky moments when a song just writes itself, probably when I was struggling with another song,” said guitarist Greg Townson. “I put this on my record Beyond The Horizon, but thought if I changed the rhythm it could make a good song for Los Straitjackets.”

Los Straitjackets have served as America’s premier surf rock band for over three decades. They have taken their combo sound around the world, making instrumental records, but also assuming the role of all-star backing band along the way, most notably with Nick Lowe for over a decade. It’s that collaboration that fuels Somos Los Straitjackets. The lineup that has been touring since founder Danny “Daddy-O-Grande” Amis had to drop out of day-to-day operations because of his (winning) battle against multiple myeloma is Eddie Angel, longtime bassist Pete “Mr. Pete” Curry, drummer Chris “Gringo Starr” Sprague (The Sprague Brothers, Deke Dickerson) and Rochester guitar hero Greg “Gregario” Townson (The Hi-Risers, John Ellison). Playing hundreds of songs with and without Lowe, this four-piece has coalesced into an incredibly tight, rockin’ combo.

After recording with Lowe at Alex Hall’s Reliable Recorders for 2024’s Indoor Safari, the band knew they had met the man who could capture the renewed sound of this group. They began by tracking early demos at Pete Curry’s Powow Fun Room studio in LA, then continued to fine-tune the new songs at soundchecks and even peppered them into live sets. The result is a down and dirty, electrifying, and beautiful album that pulsates with wit, twang and thunderous rock n’ roll. Somos also features two re-recordings of pandemic-era remote compositions (Townson’s “Genesee River Rock” and Angel’s “April Showers”) as well as a reimagined version of “Spinout,” a track recorded by Eddie’s other band The Neanderthals (bolstered by some guest vocals from voice-over king Tom Kenny).

“The recording process we used this time was different,” stated Angel. “We got together numerous times at the studio to work up the songs, then we recorded demos to listen back to. Having some time to tweak the songs, and in some cases play them live, really helped when it came time to record.”

With shimmering tremolo, relentless drum grooves, and hooks so catchy they don’t need lyrics to get stuck in your head, Somos Los Straitjackets is produced with a vintage touch but packed with fresh intensity. It’s both a love letter to rock ‘n’ roll’s past and a declaration of purpose with feet firmly planted in the present.

Karin Ann Honors Bowie Legacy With Haunting New Single “Heroes,” Produced by Mark Plati and Featuring Bowie’s Original Band

0

Critically acclaimed singer, songwriter, and actress Karin Ann ushers in a bold new chapter in her musical journey with the release of her latest single, “Heroes,” available today on all major streaming platforms. A hauntingly personal reinterpretation of the iconic David Bowie anthem, the track was produced by Bowie’s longtime collaborator Mark Plati and features members of Bowie’s original band—creating a moving homage imbued with Karin’s distinct artistry. Known for her fearless genre-blending style, Karin Ann continues to break musical boundaries, weaving elements of folk, rock, and cinematic balladry into a cohesive sound that is uniquely her own. “Heroes” exemplifies her commitment to storytelling across genres, with a deep reverence for lyrics that resonate emotionally and thematically. Whether writing original material or reimagining classics, Karin selects songs with powerful narratives at their core, showcasing her as a multi-genre talent with a storyteller’s heart.

Accompanying the single is a captivating music video, composed of footage from Karin’s studio recording sessions with Plati and Bowie’s original band, offering fans an intimate look behind the scenes of this once-in-a-lifetime collaboration.

“Heroes” follows Karin’s February release, “choking on my words” – a stirring duet with acclaimed Dutch artist and 2019 Eurovision winner Duncan Laurence – which further cemented her reputation for emotionally charged, thought-provoking music.

Karin’s 2024 debut album, through the telescope, received widespread praise for its ambitious scope and thematic depth. Tackling issues such as gender equality, the LGBTQ+ experience, mental health, and toxic love, the album showcases Karin’s fearless storytelling and sonic versatility – ranging from brutalist folk to gothic disco-rock. NME hailed it as “a confident and unflinching debut,” applauding its existential weight and cohesive vision.

Beyond music, Karin continues to make waves as an actress. She made a cameo appearance in the critically acclaimed historical drama miniseries The Tattooist of Auschwitz, portraying the character Maria. Her screen work also includes cinematic music videos for her own singles “a stranger with my face” and “favorite star,” presented as a two-part narrative series. Co-starring Ashley Moore and Gus Kenworthy, and directed by the acclaimed duo TUSK, the project was praised for its emotional storytelling and won Best Music Video at the 2023 Top Shorts Film Festival. Their collaboration extended to the striking video for “i don’t believe in God,” featuring a powerful guest appearance by Imogen Heap.

For Karin Ann, music has always been more than melody – it’s about message, meaning, and emotional truth. Her past releases aren’t just standout tracks; they’re complete stories, with each song chosen or written for the power of its lyrics and the narrative it conveys. This storytelling ethos continues to shape her evolving sound, informing a new, folk-leaning direction rooted in authenticity and emotional depth. As she expands her creative repertoire – with new film projects on the horizon – Karin is cementing her place as a dynamic, multifaceted artist unafraid to blend genres, mediums, and cultures. “Heroes” marks the start of this new musical chapter, with more original music set for release later this year – works that increasingly draw from the rich tapestry of her Central European and Middle Eastern heritage. These influences deepen the cultural and emotional resonance of her artistry, further defining her voice as a fearless, genre-defying storyteller.

Rising Indie-Rock Star Meg Elsier Announces Deluxe Edition of Debut Album ‘spittake’ with New Tracks and Tour Dates

0

Today, rising indie-rock force meg elsier announces the deluxe edition of her widely praised debut album, spittake, set for release on July 25 via Bright Antenna Records. The expanded project features 17 tracks in total, including a live recording, never-before-heard demos, and B-sides that offer a deeper, more unfiltered glimpse into the emotional and creative core of one of 2024’s most compelling debut records.

These B-sides, these demos, this deluxeit’s a celebration of all the little choices that made ‘spittake’ what it is,” says meg. “It’s a look under the hood. A practice in vulnerability. A lighter grip. I wanted to show how much beauty can exist in the unfinished and imperfect.

With her signature blend of gauzy shoegaze textures, grungy guitars, and sharp, introspective lyrics, deluxe edition sees meg peeling back the layers and inviting listeners into the messy, uncertain, and deeply human process behind the music. Reflecting on this approach, she explains that “artists and creatives have the ability to seem untouchable—to remain inches off the ground, and honestly that seems safer sometimes. But sometimes it seems like curation to the point of alienation. I wanted to start this off right and honest. That was the intention with ‘spittake.’ It’s the intention with the deluxe. And it’s the intention with the next album.”

The first single from the deluxe edition, “sportscar [scrapped],” arrives June 18. A sleek, emotionally charged indie-pop track with alt-rock undercurrents, the song builds from hushed vulnerability into a bold, driving chorus that mirrors the emotional acceleration suggested in its title.

This summer, meg joins Blondshell on tour starting June 11 in Minneapolis, with stops in Chicago, Columbus, Toronto, and Montreal. She’ll then hit the road with Liz Cooper for shows in Brooklyn, Washington DC, Durham, and Nashville. Tickets are on sale now.

Based in Nashville, meg elsier is a singer, songwriter, and visual artist making waves as one of indie-rock’s most exciting new voices. Her 2024 debut spittake earned acclaim from DIY Magazine, OnesToWatch, and CLASH for its emotionally raw storytelling and lush, genre-blending production. Known for weaving humor, heartbreak, and honesty into every song, meg continues to cement her place as a fearless and singular artist to watch.
