Banned & Outlawed Deliver a Blistering New Country Music Anthem with “People Talk”

0

When Jon and Daniel Hnatishin pick up their instruments, it’s not just country music they’re playing — it’s a way of life. Straight out of Hazelridge, Manitoba, Banned & Outlawed embody the spirit of small towns, hard work, and louder-than-life honesty. Their new single “People Talk,” produced by Chris Burke Gaffney, is a rowdy, razor-sharp anthem that captures the frustration and humor of being the subject of small-town rumors — and it’s out everywhere now.

In a world that loves to whisper, Banned & Outlawed fire back with guitars blazing. “This song really hits home for us,” says Jon, the band’s lead singer and guitarist. “We grew up hearing all kinds of nonsense about ourselves and our friends. It’s something everyone can relate to — you can be doing everything right, and people will still make up stories.” Daniel, the group’s drummer and backup vocalist, adds, “We just wanted to have fun with it. It’s the kind of song you can laugh to, sing along to, and maybe scream into a beer after a long week.”

Backed by the pounding drums and soaring guitar lines that have become their signature, “People Talk” shines a light on the everyday resilience of folks who refuse to let gossip define them. With lines like “If they don’t know, they just make it up / They love the drama, can’t get enough,” it’s a full-throttle reminder that living well is the best revenge.

Born and raised on the prairies of Manitoba, Jon and Daniel have been carving out a reputation for themselves one show at a time. Inspired by the grit of classic country and the fire of modern rock, their music leans into both tradition and rebellion — with no apologies and plenty of heart. Their sound is built on real-life stories, dirt-road dreams, and the bond between two brothers who were born to make noise.

Their “Livin’ My Life in a Small Town” Tour hits the road this spring and summer, with stops across Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario. Highlights include performances at Stonewall’s Canada Day celebration, Oak Lake Manitoba Beach, and the historic Thresherman’s Reunion Beer Gardens in Austin, Manitoba. This is a band that thrives on the road, where sweat, songs, and community collide under the open sky.

The band has already sparked excitement across social media with “People Talk,” drawing praise for its unfiltered storytelling and anthemic energy. “We just want people to hear it and feel like we’re right there with them, living it too,” Jon says. “Because we are.”

With nearly every track they release, Banned & Outlawed continue to stake their claim as one of the most promising new acts in country music. Their independent spirit, bolstered by the kind of hard-earned wisdom you can’t fake, has caught the attention of fans hungry for authenticity in a world full of noise.

As they sing in “People Talk,” “I wish they’d all just stop / But people talk…” — and with songs this good, people are going to be talking about Banned & Outlawed for a long time to come.

I think it is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.” Streisand also points out that this is the first time the song has been recorded as a duet. “I really love the way our two voices complemented each other so effortlessly.”

Skyler Reed Unveils Soul-Baring R&B Album ‘Boomerang’ After Year of Healing

0

For singer-songwriter Skyler Reed, music has always been more than a craft – it’s been a constant companion through life’s most defining moments. Her new album Boomerang is a powerful reminder of that bond: a collection of songs written not with the intention of making a record, but simply to feel whole again.

Born in Delaware and raised in Virginia, Reed moved to Atlanta nearly a decade ago, drawn to the city’s rich creative energy. With no local connections, she opened her own vocal studio — now a thriving hub for aspiring artists across Atlanta and online, reaching students as far away as Australia.

Prior to settling in Atlanta though, Skyler fell for a fellow musician and producer in Los Angeles, where she lived for nearly 4 years after graduating college. As can happen with matters of the heart, the relationship ended, and Skyler found herself emotionally adrift — and turned back to a process through which she’s always found clarity: songwriting.

“After my mother passed away when I was nine, my Aunt gave me a journal and told me to write down everything I was feeling,” Reed recalls. “That’s where it all started — and poems evolved into songs. And not long after, I won my first poetry slam. I’ve been writing to survive ever since.”

That same instinct shaped Boomerang. The album’s title — inspired by the Indigenous Australian word — has taken on new meaning for Reed: a symbolic return to self.

“This album is about the healing process,” she explains. “There are upbeat tracks like ‘The Start’ and ‘Two Week Notice,’ but there are also songs such as ‘Wasted Time’ that sit in the sadness. I started a TikTok series talking about how I hit rock bottom emotionally, how I was depressed, and how the music helped me come back.”

While previous releases leaned into neo-soul, Boomerang takes a distinct turn toward R&B. The shift is thanks in part to collaborators like Israel Martin, whose gospel-rooted piano work adds warmth and weight to the project, and thebangerslanger — known for his work with Coco Jones — whose crisp production and bold drum patterns give the album its rhythmic backbone.

“This is a different sound for me,” Reed says. “It’s R&B at its core. Working with Israel and Malik pushed me into new territory — and it felt right for where I was emotionally.”

Written across a year of intense personal growth, Boomerang captures the full arc of heartbreak and recovery. Tracks like High Expectations explore the realities of modern dating, while the title track reflects a deeper truth: that coming back to yourself is the most important journey of all.

“I wasn’t trying to make a record,” Reed says. “I just needed to write – even though there was a period when I didn’t perform for almost a year. I felt like I couldn’t sing anymore. But writing gave me something to hold onto. And slowly, the songs brought me back.”

Jon Muq Joins I’m With Her for Fall Tour in Support of Acclaimed Debut

0

This fall, Jon Muq will join GRAMMY-winning trio I’m With Her as direct support on their Wild and Clear and Blue tour. The run includes major stops in Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, and Muq’s adopted hometown of Austin. The tour follows the release of his acclaimed debut album Flying Away, which was produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys (full dates below).

The origin of the inspired pairing with I’m With Her began on the Cayamo Cruise (an annual “journey through song” cruise in the Caribbean that features performances from acclaimed singer/songwriters), where Muq first met the trio. “Meeting them for the first time… there was purity in their eyes,” he recalls. “What stuck with me was that their honest music comes from their honesty as people.” He adds, “Each of them is so talented on their instruments — something I’m still exploring with the guitar.”

Muq brings a powerful sincerity to the stage, blending African highlife guitar, soulful pop, and roots music into something wholly his own. His songs carry both vulnerability and light — as Paste noted, “raw talent and jubilant energy… set Flying Away aglow,” while FLOOD praised his willingness to stay in the emotional “thick of it.” NPR Music called his debut “a perfect summer soundtrack.”

This fall tour offers Muq a chance to connect with new audiences — including in Denver, a city he’s never visited. He’ll also be performing his newest single “Hear My Voice,” a song about being seen and heard as a migrant navigating a new culture. “If you have an opportunity,” he says, “let your voice be heard.”

Born in Kampala, Uganda, Muq’s path to music wasn’t easy — he found inspiration wherever he could, following sounds through the streets and falling in love with Western music after discovering a CD of 1985’s “We Are The World”. The only person he was already familiar with on the record at the time was Michael Jackson. Today, his music connects across continents, drawing on his life experiences and a deep-rooted sense of hope. “When I arrived in America, I didn’t have a plan,” he reflects. “I just followed instinct. I was chasing the sound.”

Brea Fournier & The Dream Ballet Drop Defiant Punk Anthem Celebrating Lust, Autonomy, and Montclair

0

On the heels of their latest single, a pounding cover of Blondie’s cult-classic anthem ‘Dreaming’, Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet are back as they unveil their latest anthem, ‘Montclair’. An ode to navigating the hedonism of your twenties, the single comes with a rip-roaring attitude, brimming with ecstasy.

Spilling out across the airwaves with its carefully delivered intro, the single soon bursts into the booming, riotous anthem it was always intended to be. Penned about the unpredictable nature of hookup culture, the single embodies the lustful, magnetic energies that make Brea Fournier such a defiant force. Coupling roaring guitars with dynamic drums, the single offers a solid pop-punk backbone for its true alternative toplines to shimmer.

“Many have called Montclair, NJ, the Paris of the United States. Wait, no, misread that. It’s known as ‘the cultural capital of northern New Jersey.’ So like, close enough. Who is to say that Montclair can’t be romantic? Our new single ‘Montclair’ is about chance encounters turning into a fun and sexy cross-country rollercoaster. It’s about spontaneity, taking chances, and finding excitement – even if it’s in suburban New Jersey. An ode to finding power and autonomy as a woman navigating mid-20s hookup culture and being open to whatever comes your way, we think ‘Montclair’ is the best New Jersey-referenced tracks you’ll hear in the first half of 2025.”

Hailing from New York City, Brea Fournier & the Dream Ballet is an exciting pop-rock/punk collective. Spearheaded by Brea Fournier, an exciting new voice in the feminist rock scene, the band comprises guitarist Ben Shanblatt, drummer Sophia Bondi, and bassist Noah Rosner. Making waves with their defiant mix of pop, rock, and eighties influences, the group has turned heads with their dynamic live shows, gracing stages across the US from Seattle to Salt Lake City and sharing bills with fellow contemporaries Dog Party. Making their debut release in 2023 with ‘Petty Stuff’, the group released their debut album, ‘Manic Pixie Dream Girl!’ the following year. Looking further to cement their reputation as fast-rising, underground rock talents, they look forward to 2025 with new music on the horizon.

Melissa Errico Brings Broadway Glamour, Sondheim Magic, and Holiday Whimsy to 2025–26 Tour

0

Tony Award-nominated Broadway actress, singer and author Melissa Errico (My Fair Lady, Dracula, Les Misérables) has announced a fabulous array of upcoming shows, from Sondheim in the City at the Princeton Festival on June 8 to The Fitzgeralds with Alec Baldwin in East Hampton, NY on August 16 and beyond – see full tour dates below.

These shows follow Errico’s latest mesmerizing musical presentation earlier this month in the Washington, D.C. area, The Story of a Rose: A Musical Reverie on The Great War – available for the world to watch online soon. Errico stepped into her most personal role yet as her own great Aunt Rose, a Ziegfeld Follies star and Italian immigrant who lived through the upheaval of WWI. Produced by The Doughboy Foundation and presented by the Gary Sinise Foundation, WBGO / NPR deemed it “dazzling,” while Air Mail called it “her smartest, most resonant, and substantial palimpsest yet,” and Broadway World agreed it is “musical perfection.”

Acclaimed by Broadway World for “stringing together a mixture of holiday favorites and Broadway classics recast as holiday songs, plus a few off the beaten path,” Melissa Errico returns in radiant form, joined by jazz luminary Billy Stritch, for a dazzling and original holiday concert. Blending timeless American Songbook standards with inventive interpretations of seasonal favorites, this whimsical debut casts Errico as Mrs. Santa herself who at last sits down to pen her long-overdue memoir. Through a playful and heartfelt song list, she reveals the untold story of the Santas’ courtship, their life at the North Pole, and even a cheeky flirtation with the head elf who stays behind. Expect romantic mischief (“Baby, It’s Cold Outside”), the joys of toy-making (“When She Loved Me”), and a heartfelt reconciliation (“I’ll Be Home for Christmas”). The evening sparkles with selections like “Rudolph,” “Always True to You in My Fashion,” and “Sleigh Ride,” alongside clever parodies such as “Too Darn Cold” and a hard-swinging “Holiday Feeling,” all brought to life with a fiery jazz trio.

Actress, recording artist and writer Melissa Errico has been called, at her Carnegie Hall debut in 2022, “a unique force in the life of the New York theater– there’s no one quite like her!” A Tony-nominated actress for her mentor Michel Legrand’s “Amour” on Broadway – and star of such Broadway musicals as “My Fair Lady”, “High Society”, “White Christmas”, “Les Misérables” & more— she has come into her distinct own in recent years with concerts and cabarets touring the world that spin together vital and witty talk with the sublime singing that had Opera News dub her “The Maria Callas of the American musical theater.” Stephen Sondheim and Legrand, among others, have been the subjects of her solo concerts – her 2019 album “Sondheim Sublime” was called, by the Wall Street Journal, “The finest solo Sondheim album ever recorded”. She is touring her new album, the acclaimed “Sondheim in the City” —culminating in her London solo concert hall debut at Cadogan Hall on July 12, 2025. She has also recently appeared as Mrs. Patrick Campbell in the play “Dear Liar” at the Irish Rep and premiered the role of Eleanor of Aquitaine last fall in an unforgettable concert at the Metropolitan Museum’s Cloisters, singing a new David Shire/ Adam Gopnik musical penned for her. In addition, she writes regularly about the comic twists and turns in the life of a performer for The New York Times, in a series dubbed by the newspaper “Scenes From An Acting Life.” From Paris, where she appeared last summer with her frequent concert mate Isabelle Georges at the Bal Blomet, to London, where she is a regular at Crazy Coqs cabaret – from the Elysée Palace to the stages of the Grand Rex, Montreal Jazz Festival and Carnegie Hall – she brings her inimitable mind, spirit, voice and soul to audiences around the world.

After wowing audiences at NJPAC on May 17, Errico continues her “Countdown To London,” the final stops on her 16-month tour promoting her acclaimed tribute album to Stephen Sondheim. Hailed by The New York Times as “a work from one of Sondheim’s deepest-hearted and lightest-touch interpreters” and by Gramophone UK for “bringing the musical theater compilation to a new level,” Errico delights with a cabaret-style tribute to Broadway’s greatest songwriter, Stephen Sondheim. She offers an outward-driven, kaleidoscopic street fair of New York scenes and moments – summoning back to life the poetic vision of a man who once confessed that his entire creative life had been spent in a twenty-block radius of Manhattan.

This two-night only New York engagement is a preview of her upcoming concert hall debut in London. Errico worked with Stephen Sondheim on productions of Sunday in the Park with George, played the Baker’s Wife in a concert run of Into The Woods and more. She has made two all-Sondheim albums, with a third on the way. Errico is one of the few Broadway divas along with Bernadette Peters, Patti Lupone and Lea Salonga, to have Stephen’s personal seal of approval on their renditions. With her deep connection to Sondheim and his music, Errico will guide you through timeless classics from “Company,” “Merrily We Roll Along,” “Anyone Can Whistle,” and more, offering personal stories and insight into her work with the musical theatre legend.

THE FITZGERALDS: A READING WITH MUSIC
August 16 @ Guild Hall (East Hampton, NY)
Marking the centennial of The Great Gatsby, at the heart of this performance lies the extraordinary correspondence between F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald — letters that reveal a relationship shaped by ambition, artistry, and emotional complexity. Directed by Stephen Hamilton, this reading features acclaimed performers Melissa Errico and Alec Baldwin, with an original live score by composer/performer Forrest Gray that brings new resonance to the Fitzgeralds’ words. The last time Errico and Baldwin paired up at Guild Hall was for a shattering performance of the American world premier of the Peter Shaffer (Equus) play The Gift of The Gordon. In this turbulent and violent play, Errico played the role originated in London by Judi Dench.

MELISSA SINGS BARBRA: THE STREISAND EFFECT
November 19-22 @ 54 Below (New York, NY)
Melissa Errico debuts a new theme concert called MELISSA SINGS BARBRA: THE STREISAND EFFECT. The coming together of two pure-bred New Yorkers, one the legendary hamische Jewish-comedienne-chanteuse, the other the intellectual-Italian enchantress who has for so long been inspired by her. The “Streisand Effect” is in part, the power of songs and her example of independent-minded pursuit. It’s no accident that in recent years Errico has found herself surrounded by many of Streisand’s greatest collaborators, from composer Michel Legrand to the pianist Randy Waldman, and arranger Peter Matz. The Legrand songbook, from “The Way He Makes Me Feel” to “The Summer Knows” will ring out, as will some of the classics that Errico learned to love from listening to Barbra, many of whose creators became mentors of her own — from David Shire to Marvin Hamlisch, and of course, Stephen Sondheim.

10-years into her impressive career, new album ‘Plæygirl’ marks both a reinvention and a reintroduction and is a deeply personal and authentic reflection on her evolution as both a person and an artist. A careful balance between light and darkness, it is a record that celebrates growth, change and hope.

Written over the course of 2022-2024 between her native Copenhagen and Los Angeles with renowned producer Nick Sylvester (LCD Soundsystem, Channel Tres, The Dare) and longtime collaborator Ronni Vindhal, the 12-track collection reflects her most authentic and liberated self, showcasing her signature offbeat sound and pushing it into fresh, thrilling territory that is unapologetically, powerfully MØ. She says, “I just wanted to make music that was true to me – music that feels free. I feel like I’m standing in front of a new era”.

From the previously released singles ‘Who Said’, ‘SWEET’ feat. Biig Piig, ‘Keep Møving’ and ‘Lose Yourself’ to the striking, dancefloor-dominating focus track ‘Heartbreak’, MØ adds rich yet jagged new textures to her time-tested sonic approach, creating an atmosphere of total liberation.

2024 marked the 10th anniversary of MØ’s acclaimed debut album, ‘No Mythologies to Follow’. To celebrate, she released a Deluxe Edition and performed sold-out residencies at London’s XOYO and Copenhagen’s iconic Vega. In 2022, she released her third studio album ‘Motordrome’, which followed her previous 2018 album ‘Forever Neverland’. Her fourth album signals the beginning of her new chapter – 2025 is the year of ‘Plæygirl’.
