The Dead Daisies Share Intimate Muscle Shoals Doc Behind ‘Lookin’ For Trouble’

0

Following the release of their acclaimed blues album Lookin’ For Trouble, The Dead Daisies have shared a brand-new short documentary that goes far beyond a standard “making-of.” Released today, the 20-minute film offers an intimate, cinematic look at how a spontaneous late-night jam session in Muscle Shoals turned into one of the band’s most soul-stirring records-and explores the rich musical history that made it possible.

Shot on location in Muscle Shoals and inside the legendary FAME Studios, the documentary captures the serendipity, spirit, and grit behind the album’s creation. It’s part road film, part musical excavation, and a heartfelt tribute to the enduring power of the blues. Featuring some never-before-seen footage of the band en route to FAME, the documentary takes viewers deep into the band’s creative process and the historical context of the songs they chose to reinterpret.

Through candid interviews with lead vocalist John Corabi, guitarist Doug Aldrich, and bassist Michael Devin, the film traces the roots of the blues and its evolution into rock & roll. The band dives into the legends and folklore surrounding artists like Lead Belly, Muddy Waters, and Albert King-whose fingerprints are all over Lookin’ For Trouble. Viewers gain new insight into the inspiration behind their fiery covers of classics like Robert Johnson’s “Crossroads,” John Lee Hooker’s “Boom Boom,” and B.B. King’s “The Thrill Is Gone.”

“When I first heard blues, it was through bands like Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones,” recalls Corabi. “The deeper I researched my heroes, the deeper I got into the history of this music. The blues is the soul of rock ‘n’ roll-it’s in everything we do.”

The documentary also captures the camaraderie and chemistry among the band and producer Marti Frederiksen, who encouraged the group to capture everything live, in the moment, with minimal overdubs. The result is a set of blistering blues performances that feel immediate and reverent all at once.

Out now via Fame / Malaco Records, Lookin’ For Trouble is The Dead Daisies’ first full-fledged blues album. Tracked live at FAME Studios, the record began as an impromptu tribute to their blues heroes-and evolved into a high-octane, soul-drenched collection that fuses reverence with signature grit.

DC The Don Unleashes “GET NAKED” Video, A Bass-Heavy Summer Anthem With Rockstar Swagger

0

Layered with cinematic shots, Milwaukee firebrand DC The Don showcases his carefree side in new “GET NAKED” video. Set against a desert backdrop, viewers are taken on a sonic journey that’s brought to life by director Danny Kirchner. By the end of the video, it’s abundantly clear that the rap rockstar’s latest gem is poised to become an instant summer favorite.

Fueled by heavy-hitting bass and unapologetic swagger, the song creates a feeling of nostalgia with an interpolation of the iconic “Hollaback Girl” hook. “GET NAKED,” out now, was an instant success with both fans and media alike earning praise from HotNewHipHop, Vibe Magazine, and more.

The new single follows March’s “BACK ROAD SWANGIN” and arrives in the wake of the “MELODY OF A MEMORY Tour” with Eem Triplin & 76Tutes. The 28-date run made landfall in major markets across the country and is now gearing up for the final leg of the tour before wrapping in New York June 13.

Leading up to the release, DC The Don previewed “GET NAKED” live during his show last month, building on the momentum he’s already created with the myriad of social media snippets that have surfaced online, accumulating over 25M+ impressions and 1.5M+ streams since releasing on May 16th. The Letter 5 designer had the crowd singing along word-for-word, fueling the hype for the song’s official release. And now, it’s finally here.

Purity Ring Unveil Epic Two-Part Single “many lives” and “part II” with Haunting Visuals

0

Trailblazing electronic pop duo Purity Ring release boundary-pushing experimental single, “many lives” self-released via the fellowship. The single is released alongside accompanying track “part II”, a grounding moment of stillness woven around classical guitar from members mj and Corin.

Purity Ring returns with an adventurous two-part single that pushes into undiscovered sonic terrain. “many lives” opens to an array of choral layers-reminiscent of Kenji Kawai’s Ghost in the Shell soundtrack-woven into holographic digital keyboards, high-tempo breakbeats, and a flowing current of vocals threaded with haunted vocoders, evoking the sense of an epic journey through a distant memory. The lyrics “house of a dream, walk into me / leave me behind, within between below” captures the bittersweet feeling of being left behind while evoking a dreamlike state of contentment. “part ii” offers a moment of stillness centered on classical guitar, signaling a peaceful reconciliation of what’s to come.

“in a lot of ways, many lives + pt ii is the epicenter of things we’ve been working on recently. it’s like the sun we’ve been orbiting around for the past few years. it feels pitch black and impossible, but also has in it all the things we can make out of that. we’re just really excited about making music at this point in our career and we felt a kind of vastness and possibility when making this.”

The accompanying music video, from creative director Mike Sunday, provides the first look inside Purity Ring’s imagined RPG soundtrack, inspired by games like NieR: Automata and Final Fantasy X. Lush imagery centers around two characters – embodiments of mj and Corin – who are about to embark on a journey.

Lydia Luce Shares Dreamy New Single “Wisteria” Ahead of West Coast Tour

0

Nashville-based singer/songwriter Lydia Luce shares her new single “Wisteria,” a dreamy celebration of hope and the space to change. Produced by Jordan Lehning (Joy Oladokun, Caitlin Rose, Kacey Musgraves) and co-written with songwriting duo Jake Finch and Collin Pastore (Lucy Dacus), the track gently wraps around Luce’s vocals before building into a swell of strings as she declares “Everything seems possible / Anything is possible.” The accompanying music video finds Luce exploring the English countryside after the song was recorded at Real World Studios.

Lydia Luce on the new single: “Quite often I’m at home and I hear my partner laughing or singing to himself upstairs. It makes me so happy. I sometimes can’t believe we are where we are. Our relationship began with substance abuse and codependency and we have found our way to a safe and loving marriage with the help of therapy and the willingness to grow. This song is about hope and believing that change can happen. I feel that way with our relationship and with my chronic pain/injuries. It’s so beautiful it makes me want to cry. We will continue to face challenges and there will be weeks of physical pain but I know we can get to the other side with time. For now it feels so good to sit on my couch with my dog and listen to Ryan sing to himself upstairs.”

She continues, “The music video for ‘Wisteria’ was filmed in the English countryside with Katie Sylvester. We had just finished recording at Real World Studios in Box and we stayed a few days extra to film in the area. We wandered through fields of cows and sheep and filmed at the beautiful Iford Manor gardens.”

“Wisteria” follows Luce’s April single “Florence,” a breathy and beautiful lullaby she wrote for her future child, which coincidentally released just weeks after she found out she was expecting. These two songs are her first new music since the 2023 LP Florida Girl, which garnered praise from The Fader and prompted The Tennessean to declare “Like a siren, Lydia Luce’s voice beckons her listeners deep inside a reflective world of intoxicating cosmic pop.” Luce’s 2021 album Dark River similarly saw acclaim from Under The Radar, FLOOD and Paste, who said “Luce’s brand of spellbinding folk is made all the better by her virtuosity as a classical musician.” A classically trained violinist, Luce and her longtime creative collaborator Jordan Lehning run the Nashville-based strings collective Lockeland Strings, a community arts organization that hosts monthly showcases of local artists accompanied by string quintet, alongside performances of new contemporary classical pieces from local composers.

Later this month, Luce will head to the west coast for a run of dates supporting Cornelia Murr, with stops in San Diego, Ojai, San Francisco and more.

Big Moochie Grape Drops “AB” Video From Hard-Hitting ‘EAT OR GET ATE 2 (DELUXE)’

0

Rising in the South on the back of his “gigantic” personality, Big Moochie Grape reps hard for Paper Route Empire. The East Memphis rapper follows last week’s release of EAT OR GET ATE 2 (DELUXE) with the video for “AB,” a Deluxe highlight. Produced by King Ceeo and named after his neighborhood’s Apple Blossom Drive, “AB” gives Moochie the opportunity to speed up his flow, as he flips flex-heavy triplets about his wrist, his whip, and everything in-between: “AP my wrist, could’ve bought me three Hemis/I’m gangster and rich, I’ve been labeled a menace)/I’m back in this b and I came with a vengeance,” he raps. In the video, Moochie returns to his home neighborhood, flexing his “AB” chain and his AP watch as he proves who really runs the East Memphis streets.

Featuring hard-hitting production from the likes of BandPlay, King Wonka, and more, EAT OR GET ATE 2 (DELUXE) is the purest distillation yet of Moochie’s relentless Tennessee trap sound, a monument to his self-made status and a chronicle of gigantic flexes. On the apocalyptic “2 Rich 2 Care,” Moochie dismisses his naysayers with nonchalance, touting his wrist, “colder than a Frigidaire,” while on the BandPlay-produced “No Fumbles,” Moochie navigates the landmines threatening to send him back to the trap or the pen at a moment’s notice. The tape features odes to Moochie’s heroes, including all-Pros like “AB,” legendary rappers like “Big Pun,” and symbols of excellence like 3x Super Bowl winner “Patrick Mahomes,” in a single praised by Billboard. Also home to the recent single “Bad Pill,” EAT OR GET ATE 2 (Deluxe) is available on all platforms via Paper Route Empire.

Home to tracks like “Crip Blue Hunnids” (1.6 million YouTube views) and “Wake Em Up,” EAT OR GET ATE 2 earned praise from XXL, The FADER, VIBE, and more. Last month, Moochie returned to the original tracklist to share “Ice Age,” staking his claim as the coldest rapper in the South.

Sly & The Family Stone Unearth Early Magic on ‘The First Family: Live at Winchester Cathedral 1967’

0

High Moon Records is proud to announce the official release of Sly & The Family Stone’s The First Family: Live at Winchester Cathedral 1967, available Friday, July 18 on CD, LP, and digital download. This earliest live recording of the pioneering band is accompanied by a deluxe booklet with liner notes from the set’s GRAMMY-nominated producer Alec Palao, featuring exclusive interviews with Sly Stone and all of the original band members, never-before-seen photos, rare memorabilia, and more. The CD edition includes a bonus performance of Otis Redding’s classic “Try A Little Tenderness.” An electrifying “I Gotta Go Now / Funky Broadway,” premieres today.

“The Winchester Cathedral recordings showcase a one-of-kind outfit that was already at the peak of its powers, long before it became internationally famous. Sly is fully in command, while the unique arrangements and tighter-than-tight ensemble playing point clearly to the road ahead, and the enduring influence of Sly & The Family Stone’s music.” -Alec Palao

Sly & The Family Stone were true pioneers on so many levels: black/white, male/female, rock/soul, the act shattered all preconceptions of what popular music could be and would go on to become one of the most innovative and influential groups the world has ever witnessed. Originally released as a sold-out, limited edition LP, earlier this year for Record Store Day, The First Family: Live at Winchester Cathedral 1967 is an electrifying live performance by the original Family Stone line-up, a full year before their chart breakthrough with “Dance To The Music.”

This fascinating recording was featured in Questlove’s critically acclaimed 2025 documentary, Sly Lives! (aka The Burden of Black Genius) and spotlights Sly Stone’s singular brilliance on a tremendously exciting and atmospheric set of vintage soul covers and original compositions, peppered with the arrangements, motifs, and intoxicating energy that would soon become familiar during the group’s ascent.

Sly & The Family Stone served as the house band at Redwood City, CA’s Winchester Cathedral from December 16, 1966, to April 28, 1967, lighting up the club with their dynamic, crowd-pleasing performances. The First Family: Live at Winchester Cathedral 1967 was recorded in the early hours of March 26, 1967, by Sly & The Family Stone’s first manager, Rich Romanello. Upon the group’s signing to Epic Records later that year, Romanello put the 7-inch analog tapes into storage where they sat for thirty-five years. The reels were rediscovered in 2002 by Dutch twins Edwin and Arno Konings, renowned Sly & The Family Stone archivists, and carefully restored by their co-producer Palao for this set.

With mastering by Dan Hersch and a lacquer cut by Kevin Gray, the result is an electrifying fifty-minutes that proves that the genius and skill of Sly & The Family Stone came fully formed. Indeed, this is where it all began.

Zara Larsson Ignites Pop with “Midnight Sun” Album Announcement and Title Track

0

Zara Larsson kicks her boldest era yet into overdrive with the announcement of her heavily anticipated new album Midnight Sun, set for release on September 26, 2025.

The ten-track album is set to feature recent single “Pretty Ugly” as well as brand-new single and title track “Midnight Sun,” which is set for release next Friday, June 13, 2025.

Created over the last year with frequent collaborator MNEK, alongside producers Margo XS and Zhone, as well as songwriter Helena Gao-Zara’s latest is a true tour-de-force, and her best work to-date. The album ripples with confidence, as it’s storytelling bursts with truth and vulnerability, plumbing the depth and growth of Zara’s artistry and journey over nearly 20 years in the public eye. It’s an album unafraid to show all sides of the 27-year-old: lovestruck, wistful, ambitious, cocky, flippant, and uncertain, often in the same breath. The story begins with “Midnight Sun,” the first song written for the album.

“In thinking about this album, I thought, ‘What do I want to say? What do I want this to be?’ I really am proud of my Swedish pop heritage, so I wanted to write about a Swedish summer where the sun never goes down,” says Zara. “I wanted the whole album to feel like it’s a summer night and it never ends. And it doesn’t matter if it’s December: the summer night will be there for you. It’s waiting for you, it will come back for you, and you will come back for it.”

Zara Larsson recently kicked off the new era with the confident and rowdy “Pretty Ugly,” alongside an incredible music video directed by Charlotte Rutherford (PinkPanthress, Charli XCX, Ashnniko), and choreographed by Zoi Tatopoulos (FKA Twigz)-fierce, feral, and completely unapologetic.

PAMELA Reimagines Blur’s “Girls & Boys” With Synth-Soaked, Club-Ready Makeover

0

Between fish & chips and cold pints, PAMELA found themselves locked in a studio on the fringes of The Great Escape Festival, armed with one mission: to take Blur’s iconic ‘Girls & Boys’ and make it their own. The result? A bold, synth-drenched rework of the Britpop classic.

The British-French duo tap into their signature sound: pulsing, instinctive, and defiantly unfiltered. Retaining the cult chorus and carefree spirit of the original, PAMELA’s version leans fully into the club, think ’90s nostalgia with a 2025 edge. The guitars are swapped for synths, the mood is bolder, the release freer, and the beat designed to lose yourself in. PAMELA’s ‘Girls & Boys’ isn’t just a cover – it’s a generational nod through a contemporary lens, as PAMELA delivers a sound that lives in the space where indie rock collides with sweaty dance floors.

Speaking on the track, PAMELA said:”We’re massive Damon Albarn fans, so covering ‘Girls & Boys’ was a no-brainer. We didn’t want to just cover Blur, we wanted to flirt with it and see what happened. We couldn’t play all the instruments so the computer joined the band. It ended up more electronic, but we kept the Britpop heart beating underneath. It still sounds like a beautiful panic attack on the dance floor which is basically our comfort zone.”

PAMELA’s appearance at London’s LIDO Festival this month marks another step forward in their rise, crafting a sound that flows with urgency and defies easy categorisation. Their philosophy is simple: don’t overthink it. Let it hit you. Let it move you.
