Montreal-based experimental folk-pop artist Everly Lux returns November 10 with her new single “Three-Legged Dog,” a lo-fi folk song that blends poetic introspection with the grit of classic jamspace rock and available for pre-save here. Inspired by the dusty warmth of Elliott Smith and Beck, as well as Dusterās Clay Parton, the track captures both the intimacy and wanderlust of Luxās evolving sound. āThree-Legged Dog is the rock anthem of Everly Lux,ā she says. āIt was a way for me to show my dusty jamspace roots and my vagabond essence, allowing my classical guitar to pass as a travelling acoustic guitar for the campfire.ā
The songās origin traces back to a zine launch in a Montreal backyard, one of those grassroots art gatherings that celebrate community and creation. āThe yard was packed with young artists of all kinds,ā Lux recalls. āIt felt as if my gaze had changed ā as if my view on the world morphed. I was changing, as a woman, lover and singer, and it was all in front of my eyes. It felt both sublime and whimsical, reminding me of Herman Hesseās Steppenwolf and his journey into a magical old city. I noticed a three-legged dog lying on the ground. The dog contributed to the dream-like character of the scene.ā
“Three-Legged Dog” also marks the rekindling of Luxās creative partnership with Montreal songwriter AndrĆ© Charles ThĆ©riault of the band Laughing. āI originally met Andre when I was 20 years old,ā she says. āAndre became my idol over the years, as I have been completely in love with his simple yet devastating poetry and unique folk sound.ā Their reunion, after years apart, has reignited Luxās artistic energy and deepened her connection to the Montreal scene.
