Diamond Cafe Releases New EP ‘Fantasy Real’ Featuring “Lover Boy” and “Sweet Cherry,” Joins Teddy Swims Tour

Synth-funk prodigy Diamond Cafe has released his anticipated new EP, Fantasy Real today. This collection of tracks draws inspiration from fan-favourite moments during his recent Sex Love Color tour, which featured shows in Paris, New York, Los Angeles and more.

Of creating the new EP, Diamond Cafe says “I recorded Fantasy Real in my Paris hotel room, the night I sold out my first show there. The energy of the city was incredible and I couldn’t leave until it was done.”  On top of the album title track, the EP will feature some fan favourites including “Lover Boy” and “Sweet Cherry.”

The release of Fantasy Real coincides with a spring and summer full of live performances for the singer, most notably as the opening act for Teddy Swims on the North American leg of his I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy arena tour. The 14-date run kicks off on May 9th and will take him to cities across the US and Canada, including New York City, Boston, and Toronto, wrapping up on May 30th. SiriusXM’s The Catholic Channel to Broadcast Live from Rome for Special Coverage of the Funeral of His Holiness Pope Francis

SiriusXM announced today that it will provide live, on-location coverage of the funeral Mass of His Holiness Pope Francis from St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. Coverage will begin at 3:30 AM ET on Saturday, April 26 on The Catholic Channel (Ch. 129), with the funeral Mass expected to begin at 4:00 AM ET and last approximately three hours.

Father Dave Dwyer and Lino Rulli, hosts on The Catholic Channel, will lead the broadcast live from Rome, offering commentary, prayers, and reflections throughout the liturgy.

For those unable to listen live, the full funeral broadcast will replay back-to-back for 24 hours, leading up to live Mass from St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday at 10:00 AM ET.

In addition to the funeral Mass, SiriusXM will provide extensive programming dedicated to the life, teachings, and enduring legacy of Pope Francis across multiple channels:

  • The Catholic Channel (Ch. 129) – Live coverage, extended reflections, and tributes

The day before the cinematic return of Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII, the newly restored version of the groundbreaking 1972 film directed by Adrian Maben, a clip of the band’s iconic performance of ‘A Saucerful of Secrets’ has been revealed.

Digitally re-mastered in 4K from the original 35mm footage, with enhanced audio newly mixed by Steven Wilson, the upcoming theatrical release presents the definitive version of this pioneering film. Screening in cinemas and IMAX worldwide from 24 April, tickets are now on sale here.

This will be followed by the live album, set for release by Legacy Recordings, the catalogue division of Sony Music, on CD, Digital Audio, and for the very first time in Dolby Atmos and on vinyl, from 2 May.

Pink Floyd At Pompeii pre-dates the release of The Dark Side Of The Moon. The film documents what Pink Floyd did before they became giants of the album charts on both sides of the Atlantic – where their music remains celebrated to this day. Set in the hauntingly beautiful ruins of the ancient Roman Amphitheatre in Pompeii, Italy, this unique and immersive film captures Pink Floyd performing an intimate concert without an audience. Filmed in October 1971, the performance marked the very first live concert to take place at Pompeii, and features the vital ‘Echoes,’ ‘A Saucerful of Secrets,’ and ‘One of These Days.’ The breathtaking visuals of the amphitheatre, captured both day and night, amplify the magic of the performance. Additionally, the film includes rare behind-the-scenes footage of the band beginning work on The Dark Side of the Moon at Abbey Road Studios.

Nick Mason said “Pink Floyd: Live At Pompeii is a rare and unique document of the band performing live in the period prior to The Dark Side Of The Moon.”

The film has been meticulously hand restored, frame-by-frame, from the original 35mm cut negative – discovered in five dubiously labelled cans within Pink Floyd’s own archives. This momentous breakthrough unearthed the very film that rolled through the cameras during those sweltering days amidst the ruins of Pompeii over 50 years ago.

Led by Lana Topham, Director of Restoration for Pink Floyd, the team’s mission was to preserve the integrity and beauty of the original picture. The film was scanned in 4K using advanced techniques to ensure the finest, sharpest detail. Colors were enhanced, and every frame was meticulously reviewed and repaired, maintaining a natural and vivid appearance with minimal grain adjustments.

“Since 1994, I have searched for the elusive film rushes of Pink Floyd At Pompeii, so the recent discovery of the 1972 original 35mm cut negative was a very special moment. The newly restored version presents the first full 90-minute cut, combining the 60-minute source edit of the performance with the additional Abbey Road Studios documentary segments filmed shortly after,” said Lana Topham, Director of Restoration for Pink Floyd.

The film also features stunning sound quality with a new theatrical and home entertainment mix by Steven Wilson in 5.1 and Dolby Atmos that enhances the film’s depth and clarity, preserving the authenticity and spirit of the original 1972 release. Wilson’s aim was to remain faithful to how the band would have sounded on those scorching hot days in 1971.

Speaking at a special screening at BFI IMAX last week, Steven Wilson said: “I think it’s very important, because it symbolizes the transition of Pink Floyd from a post-psychedelic, essentially improvisational band, to a conceptual rock band. And you see that transition in the movie, because they’re recording Dark Side of the Moon. Things become more structured, less psychedelic, less improvisational, but the live footage is still very free and very experimental. So I think to have documented that transition is almost unheard of in any band’s history.”

Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII is presented by RM Productions and directed by Adrian Maben. It is executive produced by Reiner Moritz and Michelle Arnaud. Sony Music Vision is the distributor.

311’s Nick Hexum Shares New EP ‘Full Memories’ Featuring Ben Kweller, Rami Jaffee, and a Chappell Roan Cover

Nick Hexum, the enigmatic frontman of alternative rock legends 311, has shared Full Memories, the second EP to be released from Hexum this year. It serves as the second installment of what is a trio of lunar themed EPs, the first of which, Waxing Nostalgic, was released in February and featured “Lonely Existence.” Full Memories – which Hexum produced and co-wrote with the help of collaborators Ben Kweller, Alan Hampton (Andrew Bird, Madison Cunningham), Rami Jaffee (Foo Fighters, The Wallflowers), Joel Martin and Kenny Feinstein (Water Tower) – is a reflective and surprisingly earnest statement from the singer-songwriter.

While discussing the release, Hexum says “Full Memories is my second collection in a trio of moon-themed EPs: Waxing Nostalgic, Full Memories and Waning Time.” The third and final EP of the trilogy is slated for release this summer.

Hexum continues, “Full Memories contains five tunes that veer further into americana/bluegrass instrumentation. The opener, ‘Just to See You Smile’ is a simple acoustic romantic tune about wanting someone’s enjoyment of life to rub off on you. It features Nick Drake-style finger picking and mellotron flute. For the writing of this one I was joined by a good friend, the extremely talented Alan Hampton. ‘Careless’ is a full-on bluegrass jam about coming to grips with one’s carelessness. It’s fun to hear how bluegrass can rip with punk intensity. Definitely new territory for me.” ‘Where I Belong,’ co-written with my sister, is about how just like many objects in life, people need to find their match to feel complete. It’s a slow baritone acoustic based song that is meant to be played on the porch in the evening.”

Hexum wrote EP standout “Please Explain” with his friend from Texas, indie stalwart Ben Kweller, who has a long history of oscillating between different genres. Whether it’s alt-rock, folk, punk, country, or 70’s piano ballads, the throughlines in Kweller’s work are his unshakable melodies and pointed lyrics. Hexum says “‘Please Explain’ is probably the most country tune I’ve done and it’s a song about the desire for a family member to open up to you and tell you what’s really going on with them. I was joined in the writing process by one of my favorite alt-pop songwriters, Ben Kweller.”

For his part in collaborating with Hexum on the song, Kweller explains “Nick and I share this thing they call the ‘hungry student mentality’ – we love to learn new things and when we get inspired, we go all-in and figure it out almost to an obsessive degree,” Kweller says with a laugh from his Dripping Springs studio. “When Nick called me and said ‘Yo BK, I’m going down the country music rabbit hole and I think I’m gonna release a solo collection of rootsy tunes – oh, and I’m also teaching myself how to play pedal steel!’ I wasn’t surprised at all. I was like, yep, this sounds right. Let’s get to work.”

The two hopped on a zoom and went over a few ideas and within the hour they had the song’s skeleton completed. “Nick came up with this great verse melody that reminded me of something from the 60’s, like an early Glen Campbell thing. So away we went. ‘Please Explain’ is that feeling of just wanting to know the truth no matter if it’s good or bad. I don’t care if you did something horrible or you never want to see me again, just tell me what’s going on in your head because not knowing is far worse for my heart than the thing itself.”

Featuring a pastiche of bluegrass, americana and country, fans of Nick might be surprised to hear the EPs surprising swansong, a cover of Chappell Roan’s “California.” Speaking on the recording, Hexum says “‘California’ is a Chappell Roan cover that I chose because I really related with the lyrics. It’s a story about being a midwestern kid who moves to California to pursue big dreams but having mixed feelings about it. This is exactly what happened to me at the age of seventeen before I moved back to Omaha to start 311 with my high school friends. Of course it worked out just fine but at the time I did feel like a failure. Her song captures it well. For this song I was joined by Rami Jaffee (Foo Fighters, The Wallflowers) on keyboards, as well as my long time friend Joel Martin on pedal steel.”

Pelican have shared “Pining For Ever,” the third advance sample of their first full length in six years, Flickering Resonance (coming May 16 on Run For Cover). The song arrives on the heels of a flurry of activity for the group, including appearing on the cover of the latest issue of Decibel magazine, wrapping up their expansive west coast tour with Russian Circles, and debuting the album in full at a 420 party at Chicago’s Half Acre this past Sunday. Akin to the album’s preceding singles the song in conjunction with an abstract visual by multidisciplinary artist Joshua Ford.

Pelican head back out in July for an east coast run with Porcelain before shifting to Europe for a run of festivals in August, including appearances at Arctangent, Motocultor, Void Festival, and more.

Though Pelican’s thick sonic backbone remains intact, Flickering Resonance demonstrates a more humanistic side of the band, tapping into the spirit of their formative era when Schroeder-Lebec teamed with fellow guitarist Trevor Shelley de Brauw and brothers Bryan and Larry Herweg (on bass and drums respectively) during the heyday of Chicago’s all ages hub Fireside Bowl. The venue’s variegated booking style would often result in post-hardcore, space-rock, indie, metal, and emo bands sharing bills, unwittingly providing a vast template of influences for the young band. The album’s eight songs manifest as an outward expression of the deep, grounded appreciation that dwells within the band members.

Dan Wilson Releases New Track “ventura” From Upcoming Instrumental Album ‘good night, los angeles’ Out May 9

GRAMMY-winning musician, songwriter, and producer Dan Wilson released a new song “ventura” from his forthcoming instrumental album good night, los angeles that will be released on May 9. An 18-song collection of piano recordings born out of a regular series of Sunday evening performances he would post to social media, the album was recorded entirely on a 1918 Vose & Sons upright piano that was found on the streets of Hollywood. The album is Wilson’s first instrumental release and offers a rare glimpse into the award-winning songwriter’s raw, unvarnished creative process.

About the track, Wilson explains, “The next single from my album of improvised piano lullabies, good night, los angeles, is a song called ‘ventura.’ These tracks are all named after streets that are important to me in LA. And each of them has a video attached to it that depicts a native Californian mushroom species in its natural (or psychedelic) habitat. The videos are by Sara Nelson, who is a scientific illustrator by day. But by night, apparently she paints freaky pictures of psychedelic mushrooms.”

“ventura” follows the release of “laurel” and the three-song EP suite of “deervale / moorpark / tujunga,” which featured an official video by art director Yazz Alali and illustrator/animator Sarah Nelson, who paired the music with hypnotic animations of mushrooms growing and interacting, their mycelium spreading out through the soil and entangling together to create increasingly complex neural networks.

An instrumental piano album may seem like an unlikely project for an artist so known for his way with words, who last year alone received his first Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song (“It Never Went Away”), won his first CMA Award for Song of the Year (“White Horse”) and took home the GRAMMY for Country Song of the Year (“White Horse). But in the end, the result is classic Wilson: an evocative work of deep emotion and thoughtful beauty, one crafted purely for the love of the creation and shared in the hopes of forging meaningful connection.

“Lyrics are always the greatest challenge for me as a writer, so to devote a whole project to instrumental pieces was really liberating,” Wilson explains. “It also allowed me to tap into the kind of wistful, early 20th century piano music that I’ve always loved but never really had the room to explore in my own work.”

In addition to his new album, Dan Wilson’s band Semisonic will embark on a summer tour supporting Toad The Wet Sprocket that kicks off on July 23 in Eugene, OR and will make stops in Seattle, Salt Lake City, Chicago and more.
