0

To celebrate Record Store Day 2025, multi-platinum, GRAMMY, BRIT, Golden Globe and Oscar winning artist and songwriter Sam Smith will release a very special recording of their acclaimed BBC Proms performance from London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall on 2xLP vinyl on April 12th.

For their only UK live performance of 2024 at the illustrious BBC Proms, Sam was surrounded by full orchestral support as they took to the historical London stage to mark the 10-year anniversary of the release of their debut album, In The Lonely Hour. In an undeniable, powerful and gripping concert, Sam showcased some of their biggest and greatest global hits, joined by special guests to sing a selection of jazz and soul classics that shaped the early years of their musical journey – including a glorious cover of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” and hauntingly nostalgic version of “Over The Rainbow.”

Composed over two discs, the 17-track- vinyl will be available on physical format from 12th April and streaming platforms later this year. Accompanied on stage by their long-term touring band, as well as Simon Hale who Sam worked with on In The Lonely Hour, the record features a myriad of live versions from the British singer’s wide discography of unforgettable penmanship, including the atmospheric “Too Good At Goodbyes’, soulfully resonant “I’m Not The Only One” and the GRAMMY award-winning “Unholy”. To mark the occasion, Sam was dressed in bespoke Vivienne Westwood, with costumes imagined especially for them by the house’s Creative Director, Andreas Kronthaler. Currently available to view in the UK on BBC iPlayer, Sam’s Proms performance was recently featured on BBC 4, in preparation for this propitious physical vinyl release.

Sam Smith is one of the most celebrated musical artists to emerge in recent history. A five-time GRAMMY winner, Sam holds two Guinness World Records – for the most consecutive weeks on the UK Top 10 Album Chart (for their 2014 debut, In The Lonely Hour) and for having the first James Bond Theme to reach No.1 on the UK charts (for the Oscar and Golden Globe-winning “Writing’s on the Wall”). Sam has amassed over 40 million adjusted album sales, 276 million single sales and 50 billion career streams across their catalog of critically acclaimed albums In The Lonely Hour, The Thrill of It All, Love Goes and GLORIA. Sam’s GRAMMY-winning, platinum single “Unholy” feat. Kim Petras spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Sam has sold out numerous headline tours worldwide.

25 of the Best Box Sets in Music History Because Some Stories Deserve More Than One Disc

0

You can tell a lot about a musician by what they put on a box set—and maybe even more by what they leave out. For some artists, a box set becomes a vault: packed with rarities, demos, alternate takes, and memories only the most loyal fans could love. For others, it serves as a time machine: transporting listeners across decades in just a few discs. But in every case, it becomes an invitation—into the archives, into the studio, into the heart of the artist. Here are 25 box sets that deliver everything and more.

Bob Dylan – The Bootleg Series Vol. 1–3 (Rare & Unreleased 1961–1991)
This box set launched a revolution in archival releases. Dylan opened the vault and shared raw, revelatory moments that reshaped how we view the creative process. Demos, alternate takes, and lost verses reveal new sides of the artist who changed songwriting forever.

The Beatles – The Beatles in Mono
Hearing The Beatles in mono brings new life to their classic recordings. This collection presents the band’s catalog exactly as it was mixed and envisioned. Every harmony hits harder, every guitar strum shines brighter, and every revolution feels more alive.

Bruce Springsteen – Tracks
For longtime fans, this collection delivered a treasure map through Springsteen’s creative journey. B-sides, unreleased gems, and deep cuts like “Thundercrack” and “The Promise” prove that even his hidden material carries the weight of greatness.

Johnny Cash – Unearthed
Released posthumously, this box set offers a remarkable portrait of Cash’s late-career resurgence. Spirituals, duets, and stripped-down recordings provide a powerful reflection of an artist who rediscovered his truth and chose to share it with the world.

Nirvana – With the Lights Out
This set pulls the curtain back on Nirvana’s evolution, offering raw demos, radio sessions, and blistering live recordings. Each track serves as a snapshot of a band defining a generation through sound, distortion, and emotional honesty.

Miles Davis – The Complete Bitches Brew Sessions
A full immersion into a moment when Miles rewrote the rulebook. Electric, fearless, and genre-defying, these sessions offer a front-row seat to jazz history in motion, as boundaries dissolve and new sounds emerge.

Aretha Franklin – Queen of Soul: The Atlantic Recordings
Four discs of pure brilliance from Aretha’s most influential years. From powerhouse hits to gospel-rooted deep cuts, this collection offers proof that the Queen of Soul reached heights no one else could touch.

David Bowie – Five Years 1969–1973
Covering Bowie’s early breakthrough era, this set includes classic albums, singles, alternate mixes, and rare live tracks. From Ziggy Stardust to Hunky Dory, it captures the ascent of an artist in full creative bloom.

Prince – Sign o’ the Times (Super Deluxe Edition)
An explosion of music, vault material, and unforgettable grooves. This collection opens the door to Prince’s studio genius, revealing just how much magic he created in a single era.

The Rolling Stones – The Rolling Stones in Mono
Every track hits with more grit, swagger, and authenticity. Mono brings out the raw blues and R&B roots that fueled their early sound. This box set proves that the Stones never needed polish to shine.

The Clash – Sound System
Designed by bassist Paul Simonon, this box set feels like punk’s ultimate time capsule. Remastered albums, singles, rarities, and a stack of extras tell the story of a band that never backed down from a message—or a melody.

Tom Petty – An American Treasure
Family and friends of Tom Petty curated this box set with care and love. It showcases alternate takes, unreleased songs, and live recordings that reveal a deeper, more reflective side of one of rock’s most enduring voices.

Joni Mitchell – Archives Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963–1967)
A breathtaking window into Joni’s formative years. These early performances show the seeds of lyrical genius taking root, with every song offering a glimpse of the artist she would soon become.

Led Zeppelin – The Complete Studio Recordings
All nine studio albums, remastered and collected in one place. This set feels like a monument to thunderous riffs, mystical lyrics, and rock that reshaped the world.

Neil Young – Archives Vol. I: 1963–1972
Spanning a decade of transformation, this archive delivers demos, unreleased tracks, live cuts, and film clips. It captures Neil’s restless spirit and unwavering dedication to honest songwriting.

Fleetwood Mac – Tusk (Deluxe Edition)
This sprawling edition gives new context to the most ambitious album of Fleetwood Mac’s career. Sessions, demos, and live performances reveal the tension, experimentation, and brilliance behind the band’s most misunderstood masterpiece.

R.E.M. – The Automatic Box
A collection of B-sides and rarities from the early 1990s that show just how consistent R.E.M. remained during their commercial peak. A must-listen for fans who want to hear the band stretch beyond radio hits.

Radiohead – OK Computer OKNOTOK 1997 2017
A celebration of one of the most important albums of the modern era. With unreleased songs like “I Promise” and “Man of War,” this set paints a fuller picture of Radiohead’s eerie, beautiful universe.

The Beach Boys – The Smile Sessions
The myth became reality. Brian Wilson’s legendary lost album finally arrived, revealing the intricate beauty and ambition behind one of pop music’s most talked-about projects.

The Kinks – Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire) [50th Anniversary Box Set]
Packed with demos, remixes, and lost songs, this set captures The Kinks at a creative peak. It doubles as both a concept album and a social commentary wrapped in timeless British rock.

Elvis Presley – The King of Rock ’n’ Roll: The Complete 50s Masters
Five discs that trace the rise of the original icon. From Sun Studio roots to worldwide fame, this box set captures the spark that ignited rock and roll.

Patti Smith – The Complete Arista Recordings
From Horses to Dream of Life, this collection charts the evolution of a poet-punk who turned vulnerability into rebellion. Every track reminds listeners that Patti Smith never looked away from the truth.

The Cure – Join the Dots: B-Sides & Rarities 1978–2001
Dark, beautiful, and endlessly inventive. This collection of B-sides and rarities proves that The Cure’s emotional palette goes far beyond the hits.

Leonard Cohen – The Complete Studio Albums Collection
From his whispering debut to his gravel-voiced farewells, this box set feels like reading one of literature’s great novels—only set to music, and far more haunting.

Otis Redding – Otis! The Definitive Otis Redding
Four discs of soul, sweat, and sheer vocal power. Every track carries the weight of emotion, every note a reminder of what the world lost too soon—and what it still holds close.

A great box set captures a moment. A movement. A story too big for one album alone. These are not just collections—they are chapters in the greatest book ever written: the history of music.

So open one up. Drop the needle. Press play. And let the archives come alive.

Spotify Invests €1M to Expand Audiobooks in French and Dutch, Aiming to Grow Global Publishing Opportunities

0

Since entering the audiobooks space in 2022, Spotify has positively impacted the industry, paying out hundreds of millions of dollars to rights holders on an annualized basis. In its more mature markets, audiobooks have also become one of the biggest sources of revenue growth for publishers.

Spotify’s data shows a significant increase in unique listeners who are discovering the magic of audiobooks for the first time via the platform. By driving discovery and bringing in new audiences, Spotify is increasing overall audiobook consumption, which provides another avenue of growing revenue for authors and publishers.

Since launching Audiobooks in France and Benelux last October, Spotify has seen an average month-over-month growth of 12% in listeners and listening hours. In France, the company continues to bring a younger, more diverse audience to audiobooks, with nearly 60% of listeners aged 18 to 34 accounting for over half of all listening hours.

In order to continue to build opportunities for authors and publishers, especially in countries where the audiobook market isn’t yet mature, Spotify wants to support audiobook production. Today, the company is announcing a €1 million investment to increase the production of audiobooks in non-English languages, starting with French and Dutch.

This investment reinforces Spotify’s desire to grow the market for authors and publishers, particularly in markets where audiobooks are still growing as a format, while improving the catalog and consumer experience.

“Our aim is to help create long-term value for the publishing industry and build new revenue streams for partners. To do that we must attract new audiences whilst also retaining existing book lovers, and audiobooks can play a key role in that. But at the heart of that must be great books. With less than 3% of French-language books available in audio format today, this is a great opportunity to help publishers and authors find new readers,” said Jérémy Amsellem, Audiobooks Partnerships and Licensing Manager for Europe.

High production costs and slow market adoption have limited the number of non-English audiobooks available to listeners. In France, for example, there are approximately 750,000 titles in French, but approximately 20,000 audiobooks. In the Netherlands, there are approximately 15,000 audiobooks in Dutch from a total physical catalogue of 209,000.

Spotify believes in the power of human narration, and it will continue to work with partners and the narrator community to bring these titles to fans in French and Dutch languages. However, Spotify will also offer Digital Voice Narration as part of this investment to help make audiobook production more cost-effective for partners who require a lower barrier to entry. For listeners, AI-narrated titles will be clearly identified in the description with “this audiobook is narrated by a digital voice.”

Finally, Spotify understands that authors and publishers want to reach the widest possible audience. That’s why all cofunded audiobooks will be nonexclusive and made available on Spotify, with the option to host on any other major platform.

Spotify aims to create the best possible experience for authors, publishers, and listeners, and this investment marks another important step toward introducing audiobooks to new audiences, diversifying its catalog, and providing more choices in more languages than ever before.

Cypress Hill’s Black Sunday Celebrated with Graphic Novel and Live Album Featuring London Symphony Orchestra

0

As part of the ongoing celebration of Cypress Hill’s seminal and groundbreaking album, Black Sunday, Z2 is proud to announce CYPRESS HILL: BLACK SUNDAY, a graphic novel that commemorates the era and impact of the album and the band.

Developed with the band, writers Noah Callahan-Bever and Gabriel Alvarez take you on a narrative journey through the making of the album as the artwork of Ken Knudsten, Sebastian Piriz, Giorgio Pontrelli, Felix Ruiz and Guillermo Sanno immerses you deep in the vibe and historic cultural events that surrounded Cypress Hill as they brought Black Sunday to life. With a new cover by the designer of the original album cover, Jay Papke, and a new interview with Cypress Hill as they look back on the album that made them superstars, this is a tribute that is truly Insane in the Brain!

When asked about Black Sunday’s iconic sound and cover art aesthetic B-Real shared: “We called it Black Sunday because we’re Raiders fans and also Black Sabbath fans. So Black Sunday felt like an appropriate title for the album. We tried to match the imagery up with what we were putting down musically.”

Another aspect of the ongoing celebration is the exclusive vinyl included with the Platinum Editions. What began as a joke on a 1996 episode of The Simpsons has now become a true multi-cultural milestone. Cypress Hill and the London Symphony Orchestra: Black Sunday Live at the Royal Albert Hall, captured as a feature-length concert film, will be in cinemas for a special theatrical event March 30, 31 and April 2. Cypress Hill and the London Symphony Orchestra: Black Sunday Live at the Royal Albert Hall, the full length live album, will be released June 6 via Mercury. Only 500 copies of this historic concert will only be available in exclusive GREEN VINYL to preorder on Z2comics.com in the Platinum Singed Bundle.

“It was amazing to take this journey with the people of London who supported Cypress Hill from day one.” -Sen Dog

Available for pre-order now at Z2Comics.com, with a retail release date of June 3rd, 2025, the BLACK SUNDAY graphic novel follows Z2’s acclaimed and best-selling first Cypress Hill collaboration, TRES EQUIS, charting the path taken by the band, and the battles fought, as they rose to the challenge of delivering a sophomore album that would outshine their powerful debut release. The entire book is set against the backdrop of the L.A Riots, Lollapalooza and touring with their friends- the Beastie Boys. The BLACK SUNDAY graphic novel also includes an extensive interview with album designer Jay Papke, taking fans behind the scenes to show the elaborate process that went into the creation of one of the most recognizable album covers in music. The book also contains a brand new interview with B-Real Sen Dog and Eric Bobo as they reflect back on the album, graphic novel and their lasting legacy.

“The work we started together on Cypress Hill: Tres Equis only gets better. Collaborating again with Cypress, Noah and Gabriel to tell the true story of Black Sunday resulted in another sequential masterpiece.” says Z2’s President, Josh Bernstein. “It’s an honor working with B-Real, Sen-Dog, Muggs, Bobo and the entire Cypress Hill + Z2 families to ensure this project smokes.”
