Mastiff Releases Blistering EP ‘For All The Dead Dreams’ on Church Road Records

0

Kingston Upon Hull’s premier misery merchants Mastiff have finally and proudly joined the hallowed roster of Church Road Records for the release of ‘For All The Dead Dreams’, a blistering five song assault of pummeling and aggravated hardcore that is available everywhere out now. Now well over a decade into their parade of embittered misanthropy, the East Yorkshire quintet, composed of Jim Hodge (vocals), Phil Johnson (guitars), James Lee Ross (guitars), Mike Shepherd (drums), and Dan Dolby (bass), have definitively burned their mark into the UK’s extreme music scene with a fistful of mangled hardcore and sludge riffs and an endless well of spite. The band’s reputation as a ferocious live entity continues to grow, having spent the last few years racking up appearances at prestigious heavy music festivals like Bloodstock, Damnation, and DesertFest, as well as sharing stages with the likes of Avatar, Conan, and Raging Speedhorn.

Once again recorded and mixed by the incredible Joe Clayton at Nø Studio and mastered by the legendary Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, ‘For All The Dead Dreams’ sees Mastiff at their most brutish, sounding like Nails, Harms Way, and Gatecreeper thrown into a cement mixer. Following two critically acclaimed albums on MNRK Heavy, and having had their track “Acid Breather” featured in the multi million selling video game Cyberpunk 2077, the band unleashes fifteen minutes of unrelenting and unforgiving punishment. If their previous album ‘Deprecipice’ felt as blunt and ignorant as heavy music gets, fans can now revel in horror as Mastiff collectively grunt “Hold my beer” and dish up even more sonic aggression. They will be bringing the devastation to stages across the UK throughout November, including co headline shows with Raging Speedhorn.

‘For All The Dead Dreams’ Track Listing

The song is a prime example of their unique style, which featured musicians, often women, playing traditional instruments like strings and wind, while incorporating a rock style rhythm section of synthesizer, bass guitar, and Simmons drums. Adding to the visual spectacle, the performers sometimes don shiny chrome finished robot masks and Victorian era powdered wigs, drawing comparisons to groups like Daft Punk.

The song, which originated from their 1981 album of the same name, is a gorgeous chamber piece that invites listeners to put on their dance shoes and enjoy the unique fusion of sounds.
