Shawn Desman, Loverboy, July Talk, Three Dog Night, Bishop Briggs, Marianas Trench, and Dean Brody Announced for 2025 CNE Bandshell

0

While Toronto’s favourite end-of-summer tradition, the Canadian National Exhibition may still be months away (August 15-September 1, 2025), organizers couldn’t wait to announce one of its most exciting music lineups to-date, giving music fans an early sneak peek of the headliners slated for the 2025 Bell CNE Bandshell. The annual concert series under the iconic open-air music venue has been a major draw for not only visitors to the Fair – free with CNE admission – but has also attracted some of the biggest names in music throughout the decades. This year is no exception with the first round of performers announced ranging from chart-toppers to multi-platinum selling artists, JUNO winners and Hall of Famers, Super Bowl performers, and music streaming sensations.

“For the price of CNE admission which is under $30 for a general advance ticket, there is no better value to see a full concert set LIVE in-person by some of the most popular artists in the world; and no better way to enjoy the experience than under a summer sunset with the excitement of the CNE around you,” said Emily Kempe, CNE Entertainment Manager. “Whether you’re coming to see your favourite band, or discovering new music, there’s something for everyone – and many more Canadian and international artists still to be announced!”

Advance ticket discounts to the 2025 CNE are available now. Save up to 41% before August 15 by purchasing online at www.TheEx.com.

From hits like “Electric” (2010) and “Nights Like This” (2010) to his more recent releases like “Maniac” (2022), and “Love Me with the Lights On” (2023), Shawn resonates with fans across generations making.

5 Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know About Clem Burke, the Relentless Beat Behind Blondie

0

Before Clem Burke anchored Blondie’s wild genre-mashing ride through punk, pop, disco, and new wave, before he moonlit with everyone from the Ramones to Bob Dylan, and before he was handed an honorary doctorate for simply being too good at drumming, he was a kid from Bayonne, New Jersey with sticks in hand and a future no one could quite predict. Here are five little-known facts about the man whose drumming didn’t just keep time—it made it.

1. He was the bridge that kept Blondie from falling apart before they really began.
When original bassist Fred Smith jumped ship for Television in the mid-70s, Debbie Harry and Chris Stein almost ended the band before it ever truly launched. But it was Clem Burke—then just the new kid behind the kit—who kept things moving by recruiting his buddy Gary Valentine to fill the bass slot. No Clem, no Blondie? Believe it.

2. He was a Ramone—but only for 48 hours.
In August 1987, Burke answered the call of punk legends the Ramones, performing two gigs under the name Elvis Ramone after Richie Ramone’s sudden departure. He only lasted two shows (Ramone tempos are no joke), but in that short time, he joined an elite club of fill-in legends who could say they wore the leather jacket on stage.

3. He helped science prove that drummers are basically elite athletes.
Burke was the subject of an eight-year study by the University of Gloucestershire and University of Chichester examining the physical and psychological toll of drumming at a professional level. The results? His heart rate rivaled that of a Premier League footballer during a match. He later launched the Clem Burke Drumming Project to explore the therapeutic benefits of rhythm for mental health and well-being.

4. He’s played with everybody. Like, seriously—everybody.
Yes, he’s a Blondie Hall of Famer. But Clem Burke’s CV reads like a genre-hopping dream tour: Eurythmics, Joan Jett, Pete Townshend, Wanda Jackson, Nancy Sinatra, Dramarama, Iggy Pop, and even a brief stint with the Go-Go’s. If your favorite artist needed a drummer, Clem was already in the van—possibly driving it.

5. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and formed a band with a Sex Pistol and a Go-Go.
Not content with just one supergroup, Burke co-founded The International Swingers alongside Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols), James Stevenson (Generation X), and Gary Twinn (Supernaut). Around the same time, he joined The Empty Hearts with members of the Cars and the Romantics. Every band had its own flavor, but Burke brought the beat—always.

Clem Burke was the beat. A tireless performer, a shape-shifter across genres, and a true lifer in rock ‘n’ roll, he turned every project into something unforgettable. Whether powering through 100 shows a year or quietly laying down magic in the studio, Burke did what the best drummers do: made the music feel alive. Now, as fans mourn his passing at age 70, we remember not just the man behind Blondie, but the drummer behind so much more.

And somewhere, under a disco ball or in a punk club, that beat goes on.

Scrub-A-Dub with the Fab Four: The Beatles’ 1965 Colgate Soaky Bubble Bath Bottles Are the Grooviest Bathtime Collectible Ever

The Beatles—John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr—teamed up with Colgate-Palmolive in 1965 for one of the quirkiest pieces of Fab Four memorabilia: the Colgate Soaky Bubble Bath Bottles. Captured in a delightfully retro video ad, the animated commercial showcases plastic bottles shaped like each member of the band, bringing Beatlemania to the bathtub.

10 Songs Jimmy Page Played On That Aren’t Led Zeppelin

0

Before Jimmy Page became the mythic riff-slinger of Led Zeppelin, he was the hardest-working man in London’s studio scene. Seriously—if you dropped a needle on any British rock, pop, or blues single from the mid-’60s, odds are Page was somewhere in the mix, quietly shredding while someone else got the glory. He wasn’t just playing guitar—he was inventing futures. These 10 tracks are the secret history of a guitar god in the making, the songs where Page wrote his origin story in six-string ink, long before he carved Zoso into the rock ‘n’ roll Mount Rushmore.

1. The Who – “I Can’t Explain” (1964, rhythm guitar)
Before power chords became Pete Townshend’s religion, Jimmy Page was called in to lay down some of the earliest textures on this proto-punk gem. His rhythm guitar snakes under the surface like a quiet storm. You can hear him setting the fuse for the explosion The Who would become. Mod mayhem starts here—with Page as the secret architect.

2. Donovan – “Hurdy Gurdy Man” (1968, electric guitar)
This song sounds like flower power met a fuzz pedal in an alley and came out with bruises. Jimmy’s guitar is molten. It burns through Donovan’s mystic whispers like incense caught in a lightning storm. Rumor has it Zeppelin was born in this studio session—Plant and Bonham were meant to play, too.

3. Joe Cocker – “With a Little Help From My Friends” (1968, lead guitar)
You know that wailing, soulful cry of the guitar right before Cocker tears his vocal cords in two? That’s Page. He wrings agony from the strings like he’s squeezing rain from the sky. The Beatles wrote it, Cocker owned it, but Page lit the fire under it with a torch only he could wield.

4. Brenda Lee – “Is It True” (1964, guitar solo)
Wait, Brenda Lee? The same one who sang “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”? Yup. Page delivers a solo that punches harder than any holiday tune ever could. He’s all reverb and swagger, turning this pop track into a rockabilly bruiser. Imagine a leather-jacketed Elvis in London—Page was the kid holding his amp.

5. Them – “Baby Please Don’t Go” (1964, session guitar)
Before Van Morrison was your mom’s favorite Celtic crooner, he fronted Them—a snarling Belfast blues band. Page’s guitar barks just behind the beat like a chained beast dying to be let loose. It’s primal, raw, and straight out of a smoky basement club. Morrison growls, Page growls back.

6. Nico – “The Last Mile” (1965, guitar work)
Nico before the Velvets is a trip, and Page provides the winding, spectral guitar lines on this haunting ballad. It’s a far cry from the thunder of Zep, but here he plays with ghostly restraint. He colors silence with sound, hinting at the drama he’d later amplify with a violin bow.

7. The Kinks – “I’m a Lover Not a Fighter” (1964, uncredited guitar)
You want to hear British R&B before the Beatles got mystical? This track is a time capsule. Page’s guitar is buried under the mix, but it’s there, ducking and weaving like a boxer who’s tired of jabs and ready to throw haymakers. Another notch in Page’s studio belt before the world knew his name.

8. Marianne Faithfull – “Something Better” (1968, guitar)
This is swinging London at dusk. Page’s delicate fretwork wraps around Faithfull’s voice like a fog rolling over the Thames. He doesn’t dominate—he dances, guiding the tune to something truly cinematic. For a man known for volume, this is a masterclass in tasteful understatement.

9. P.J. Proby – “Jim’s Blues” (1964, blues guitar)
One of the few times he steps fully into the spotlight as a soloist during his session days. Page just wails on this one—no studio tricks, no double-tracking, just Jimmy vs. the blues. You can practically hear the calluses forming on his fingers in real time.

10. Shirley Bassey – “Goldfinger” (1964, guitar overdubs)
The Bond classic is pure brass and bombast—but listen closely to those shimmering guitar licks behind Shirley’s voice. That’s Page, adding the cool menace under all the glam. He didn’t get a credit, but he left fingerprints all over the most iconic spy theme of all time.

Long before he climbed the stairway to rock immortality, Jimmy Page was everywhere and nowhere—London’s invisible hand, bending strings behind the curtain. These songs are the breadcrumbs that led to Zeppelin, proof that greatness doesn’t arrive fully formed—it leaks out, quietly, on other people’s hits.

Craig Finn Releases Always Been Featuring Adam Granduciel of The War On Drugs, Kathleen Edwards, and Sam Fender

0

Craig Finn has released his eagerly awaited new solo album Always Been (Tamarac Recordings/Thirty Tigers), available now digitally as well as on CD, standard vinyl, and limited-edition colored vinyl.

Produced by GRAMMY Award-winner Adam Granduciel (The War On Drugs) at his studio in Burbank, CA and mixed by 3x GRAMMY Award-winning engineer Jonathan Low (Taylor Swift, The National, Hurray For The Riff Raff), Always Been features musical performances by Granduciel and other members of The War on Drugs, as well as guest vocals by Kathleen Edwards and Sam Fender. Always Been marks the sixth LP in a solo discography that sits alongside Finn’s finest work as frontman and vocalist of The Hold Steady.

Always Been was initially announced with the album’s first single, “People Of Substance,” which Rolling Stone hailed as “vintage Finn in many ways, especially when it comes to the musician’s distinct vocal delivery and lyrics as he sings from the perspective of a flailing guy trying to make good, while also looking for excuses,” and noted that “the track bears the sprawling, shimmering sonic hallmarks of Always Been producer, Adam Granduciel of the War on Drugs (though not without a little bit of old punk grit).” Finn then released album opener “Bethany” as well as Lousy With Ghosts, a limited-edition 92-page companion book that features 11 works of fiction by Craig Finn. These stores take place in the same universe as the record, giving deeper looks at the characters within.

Finn is currently celebrating the release of Always Been with a wide-ranging US tour as special guest supporting Bob Mould. The tour is in Los Angeles, CA tonight at the Teragram Ballroom, and ends April 18 at Milwaukee, WI’s Turner Hall. On May 30, Finn and his band, People of Substance, will be performing a special hometown show at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom. For this one-off performance, he put together an allstar group featuring Robbie Bennett, Nelson Devereaux, Kathleen Edwards, Adam Granduciel, Dave Hartley, Josh Kaufman, Joe Russo, and more. Kathleen Edwards will open the show.
