Leftover Salmon and Kitchen Dwellers Announce Star-Studded 35th Anniversary “Pick-Nic” at Red Rocks This Memorial Day

0

Leftover Salmon and Kitchen Dwellers have announced a stellar lineup of special guests for the highly anticipated “Memorial Day Pick-Nic” at Colorado’s historic Red Rocks Amphitheatre on May 26, 2025. Joining the celebration are former Leftover Salmon member and Little Feat keyboardist Bill Payne, acclaimed singer-songwriter Nicki Bluhm, Grammy Award-winning fiddler Jason Carter, powerhouse vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Laurie Lewis, eclectic Bermudian singer-songwriter Mishka, and AJ Lee, frontwoman of the award-winning bluegrass and folk group AJ Lee & Blue Summit.

This special performance will commemorate the 35th anniversary of Leftover Salmon, the pioneering “polyethnic Cajun slamgrass” band from Colorado. Both Leftover Salmon and Kitchen Dwellers will perform two sets each, featuring collaborative performances with the special guests and the High Country Horns. The evening will also include an opening performance by Denver’s rising “good folk’n country” group, Clay Street Unit.

Few bands stick around for thirty years. Even fewer bands leave a legacy during that time that marks them as a truly special, once-in-a-lifetime type band. And no band has done all that and had as much fun as Leftover Salmon.

Since their earliest days as a forward-thinking, progressive bluegrass band who had the guts to add drums to the mix and who was unafraid to stir in any number of highly combustible styles into their ever-evolving sound; to their role as a pioneer of the modern jamband scene; to their current status as elder-statesmen of the scene who cast a huge influential shadow over every festival they play, Leftover Salmon has been a crucial link in keeping alive the traditional music of the past while at the same time pushing that sound forward with their own weirdly unique style.

Leftover Salmon is continuing their long, storied history, which found them first emerging from the progressive bluegrass world and coming of age as one of the original jam bands, before rising to become architects of what has become known as Jamgrass and helping to create a landscape where bands schooled in the traditional rules of bluegrass can break free of those bonds through nontraditional instrumentation and an innate ability to push songs in new psychedelic directions live.

Leftover Salmon is a band who, for more than thirty-five years, has never stood still; they are constantly changing, evolving, and inspiring. If someone wanted to understand what Americana music is, they could do no better than to go to a Leftover Salmon show, where they effortlessly glide from a bluegrass number born on the front porch, to the down-and-dirty Cajun swamps with a stop on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, to the hallowed halls of the Ryman in Nashville, before firing one up in the mountains of Colorado.

Kitchen Dwellers twist bluegrass, folk, and rock through a kaleidoscope of homegrown stories, rich mythology, American west wanderlust, and psychedelic hues. The Montana quartet—Shawn Swain [Mandolin], Torrin Daniels [banjo], Joe Funk [upright bass], and Max Davies [acoustic guitar]—have captivated audiences at hallowed venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre and recently performed alongside acts such as Billy Strings and Goose in addition to playing festivals such as Telluride Bluegrass, Under The Big Sky, WinterWonderGrass, and more. They’ve released four critically acclaimed albums—Ghost In The Bottle [2017], Muir Maid [2019], Wise River [2022], and Seven Devils [2024]. After amassing 15 million-plus streams, selling out shows, and receiving acclaim from Huffington Post, Relix, American Songwriter, and more.

John Fogerty to Celebrate 80th Birthday with Special Beacon Theatre Show and Star-Studded 2025 Appearances

0

Grammy winner, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, and Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee John Fogerty has announced a special concert at New York City’s Beacon Theatre taking place on his 80th birthday, May 28, 2025. Celebrating his legacy while casting his eye to the future, the legend will perform his classic hits that continue to shape the sound of American music today, backed by a band including his sons Shane and Tyler Fogerty. Tickets are on sale this Friday, April 4, and local pre-sale begins on Wednesday, April 2. More info HERE.

The Beacon show is one of several high-profile appearances, performances, and honors planned in 2025. Fogerty kicked off the year in January with performances at the Fire Aid benefit concert in Los Angeles and a brief residency at the Wynn Encore Theater in Las Vegas. Earlier this month he appeared at SXSW for a show at Stubb’s BBQ, playing songs from “one of the great rock & roll catalogs…with a genuine sweetness” (Rolling Stone), followed by a Keynote conversation with fellow Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tom Morello.

On April 24, Fogerty will give a headlining performance at Jazz Fest in New Orleans, and just days later will be honored at the 2025 American Music Honors, hosted by the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music at Monmouth University in NJ. The American Music Honors celebrate artists who have demonstrated artistic excellence, creative integrity, and a longstanding commitment to the value of music within national consciousness. The April 26 event is hosted by Brian Williams and will feature presenters Bruce Springsteen, Nils Lofgren, Patti Scialfa, and Stevie Van Zandt.

In June, Fogerty will return to Glastonbury for his first performance at the legendary festival in nearly twenty years. On July 6, he will headline the Hollywood Bowl, with more exciting news to be announced soon.

TajMo Returns! Taj Mahal and Keb’ Mo’ Reunite for ‘Room On The Porch’ and 2025 Tour

0

TajMo – the historic collaboration between two generations of American music masters – have shared new single “Junkyard Dog” today, from their forthcoming full-length album Room On The Porch – out May 23 on Concord Records. Keb’ Mo’ and Taj Mahal showcase their “strong chemistry” (Wall Street Journal) – and a blues prowess that’s earned them ten combined GRAMMY Awards – on “Junkyard Dog,” which was originally written by Nashville-based songwriter Maia Sharp for her album Mercy Rising (2021). “This track is where this TajMo album began,” says Keb’ Mo’. “I heard Maia Sharp’s version of ‘Junkyard Dog’ and I knew we could put some dirt on it and make it ours. It has the bones of a blues anthem.”

The ten-song collection finds the duo reuniting for their first release together since 2017, when their debut collaboration TajMo brought them from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (for a stunning performance alongside Jon Batiste) to Marc Maron’s garage to the GRAMMY stage (where they took home Best Contemporary Blues Album). While putting their signature stamp on favorite tunes like “Junkyard Dog,” Room On The Porch also features more original, co-written tracks between the legendary pair than ever before – playing to each other’s strengths and discovering creative horizons more than a half-century into their storied careers.

“The two of us collaborating has always been a very organic thing,” Taj reflects. “We have different skill sets that go well together, and even though it’d been a while since we’d played together, it was easy to get back to that same creative place we landed with the first album.”

Room On The Porch (which Taj Mahal and Keb’ Mo’ also co-produced together) incorporates a full spectrum of sounds that showcase why “each of them is a standard-bearer in the genre-bending world of folk, blues, soul and Americana” (Billboard). But, as Taj Mahal points out, these styles are all deeply tied together by their shared roots: “If you take the African imprint out of Western music for the last 500 years, there’s almost nothing left,” says Taj (who will also play Big Ears and JazzFest this spring). “As much as it might feel like we’re touching on all these different genres, the way I see it, we’re just connecting with the music of our ancestors and their influence on what’s happening now.”

Taj Mahal and Keb’ Mo’ will bring their TajMo live show back on the road in 2025, celebrating Room On The Porch in over a dozen cities across the United States, beginning with a special appearance at the Grand Ole Opry (joined by Ruby Amanfu), during the Opry’s year-long 100th anniversary celebrations, before their first headline show together at New York’s Town Hall on May 28. New this year, Campout for the Cause has partnered with Colorado’s Coletrain Music Academy to bring in professional instructors for on-site music education. Festival-goers of all skill levels can participate in group jams, lessons, and collaborative sessions designed to foster camaraderie and creative exploration.

“Campout was created along the Colorado River following the destructive fire at State Bridge Lodge,” says Scotty Stoughton, founder of Bonfire Entertainment. “From the ashes grew Campout For The Cause—a home to play music, camp, share stories, and gather around the campfire.”

Hutchinson Ranch, located in the historic mountain town of Salida, offers a picturesque setting at the base of the majestic Sawatch Range. “Our new home feels like a long-lost outpost on our journey West,” notes Stoughton. “The seven-generation Hutchinson Ranch needs our help to keep their open spaces open, as Salida’s strong agricultural roots are being challenged by development.”

Campout for the Cause was originally founded in 2009 in part to support The Central America Foundation, and over the years has contributed to several charitable causes including All Hands And Hearts, Emmy’s Friends, Protect our Rivers, and other local nonprofits. In 2025, the festival’s beneficiaries will include:

Hutchinson Ranch (https://www.hutchranchsalida.com/)
Guidestone Colorado (https://guidestonecolorado.org/)
Children’s Discovery Ranch (https://childrensdiscoveryranch.com/)
COTBDAA (https://coloradoticks.org/)

Bonfire Entertainment, the team behind WinterWonderGrass, BajaWonderGrass, and RiverWonderGrass, is excited to rekindle the spirit of Campout for the Cause, reminding attendees that life is too often busy and hurried. The gathering aims to inspire reflection, conversation, and camaraderie under Colorado’s star-filled skies.

Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased HERE. Capacity is limited to preserve the unique, close-knit ambiance of Campout for the Cause.

Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill Turns 30 — And a New Book Explores Why It Still Hurts So Good

0

Believe it or not, it’s been thirty years since Alanis Morissette unleashed Jagged Little Pill on the world. Released June 13, 1995, the album marked a seismic shift in pop and rock music—an emotionally raw, confessional, and defiant collection that gave a voice to the messiness of young womanhood. From its searing lead single “You Oughta Know” to the sardonic, misunderstood anthem “Ironic,” the record became a generational lightning rod. And now, a new book aims to dig deeper into how this cultural juggernaut came to be—and why its influence still echoes today.

Alanis: Thirty Years of Jagged Little Pill by veteran music journalist Selena Fragassi will be released June 24, 2025, just days after the album’s official 30th anniversary. The book is more than just a behind-the-scenes account—it’s a celebration of a record that shattered industry expectations, challenged gender norms, and turned vulnerability into power. Fragassi’s writing brings both historical context and fresh commentary, inviting readers to revisit Jagged Little Pill with new ears.

Fragassi examines each track with care, pulling apart the raw emotion and lyrical urgency that made songs like “Hand in My Pocket” and “All I Really Want” feel like sacred anthems to a generation of listeners. With quotes from today’s pop icons—Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, and more—the book makes a compelling case that Jagged Little Pill paved the way for the confessional songwriting boom that followed. These aren’t just tributes—they’re testaments to how Alanis helped shape the artistic voice of some of today’s biggest stars.

Readers will also gain insight from the people who were there: Alanis’s first manager, her publicist, and the journalists who championed her in an era when female anger and emotional transparency were rarely rewarded. Rare photographs from the Jagged era accompany the story, tracking Alanis’s evolution from former teen pop star to cathartic alt-rock heroine. The book also touches on the album’s enduring legacy, including its award-winning Broadway adaptation and ongoing relevance in pop culture.

What makes Jagged Little Pill still resonate after three decades? Fragassi suggests it’s not just the timeless songwriting, but the invitation to feel. To scream, to cry, to laugh, to process. “Every time you listen to it,” Fragassi writes, “you uncover more and more of its messages, and yourself—at that exact moment.” It’s this emotional elasticity that has kept the album alive in headphones, car rides, and karaoke bars since 1995.

Whether you’re a lifelong fan or someone who’s only recently discovered the album, Alanis: Thirty Years of Jagged Little Pill is a must-read tribute to a once-in-a-generation record. It reminds us that art this honest never really ages—it just finds new ways to hit home.

Crypto Dividends Explained: How to Earn Passive Income from Your Coins

0

By Mitch Rice

You’ve probably heard that cryptocurrencies can earn passive income, but do they actually pay dividends? Unlike traditional stocks, most cryptocurrencies don’t issue formal dividend payouts. Instead, some offer alternative reward mechanisms that resemble dividends. Understanding how these work is essential if you plan to grow your holdings over time. In this article, you’ll learn how certain crypto assets generate income and what it really means to earn “dividends” in the blockchain space.

Mechanisms for Earning Passive Income with Cryptocurrencies

Staking

Staking earns you rewards. That’s the whole point. You lock up your crypto, and the network pays you. Simple as that. It’s how some blockchains, like Ethereum or Cardano, stay secure. And yeah, no fancy gear needed. Just hold your coins in a wallet or on an exchange that supports staking. The more you stake, the more chances you have to earn. Rewards come from fees or new coins. But here’s the thing—some networks make you wait if you want to unstake. So check the rules first. Always.

Yield Farming

Yield farming earns high rewards. That’s the hook. You give your crypto to a DeFi platform, and it pays you back with tokens or interest. Sounds great. And sometimes, it is. Some platforms offer crazy high returns, especially the newer ones. But watch out. DeFi breaks. Smart contracts get hacked. Coins drop fast. You lose money if you don’t know what you’re doing. So dig into the details. Know the risks. And yeah, if it looks too good to be true—it probably is. Don’t just chase numbers. Think first.

Lending

Lending earns interest. That’s the deal. You give out your crypto, and someone else pays to borrow it. Easy. Platforms like Aave, Compound, and Binance offer the tools. You pick a coin, choose a platform, and start earning. Rates shift fast, depending on demand and token type. And yeah, the returns often beat bank savings. But watch the risk. No insurance. Protocol bugs. Borrowers can walk. So read the rules. Check how the platform protects your money. Don’t skip the boring stuff. And don’t lend what you can’t lose. Seriously.

H3 Airdrops

Airdrops give crypto. Free coins, no catch—if you follow the rules. Projects send tokens to users to build hype or reward early support. You don’t buy anything. Just hold a coin, use a platform, or fill out a form. And boom—tokens hit your wallet. Sounds easy. And sometimes it is. But scams pop up fast. Fake links. Phishing traps. Don’t share keys. Examples of Cryptocurrencies Offering Dividends

Some cryptos pay you. Not in theory—in real tokens. You hold, and they send you more. No need to mine, trade, or chase charts. Just own the right ones.

NEO (GAS Generation)

NEO works a lot like a stock that pays dividends. When you hold NEO in a compatible wallet, you automatically receive GAS tokens. NEO uses a dual-token system—NEO is the main asset, and GAS is used to pay transaction fees on the network. The more NEO you hold, the more GAS you receive over time. And no, you don’t need to stake or lock anything. Just hold it. But make sure your wallet supports GAS generation, or you won’t see any rewards.

VeChain (VTHO Generation)

VeChain runs on a similar dual-token model. You hold VET, and you earn VTHO. VTHO powers transactions on the VeChainThor blockchain. The idea is simple: the more VET you own, the more VTHO you get. You can spend it, sell it, or just let it build up. Like with NEO, you don’t need to stake your VET. Just store it in a wallet or exchange that supports VTHO generation.

KuCoin Shares (KCS)

KuCoin, a popular centralised exchange, shares daily rewards with users who hold KCS, its native token. These rewards come from a portion of the exchange’s trading fees. You’ll need to keep your KCS on the KuCoin platform to receive the payouts. It’s not decentralised like NEO or VeChain, but it’s a steady source of passive income. The more trading activity on the exchange, the more you earn.

Other Notable Examples

  1. Ontology (ONG): Works like NEO. You hold ONT, and it generates ONG over time. ONG covers network fees.
  2. Reddcoin (RDD): Uses “proof-of-stake velocity,” which rewards users who hold and use the coin regularly.
  3. Divi (DIVI): Offers tiered rewards based on how much you lock in a node. Bigger node, bigger payout.
  4. Komodo (KMD): Used to pay annual rewards if you held coins in a supported wallet.

Does Bitcoin pay dividends?

Bitcoin doesn’t pay dividends. You won’t earn extra coins just for holding it. Bitcoin wasn’t built for passive income. It runs as a decentralised network without staking or rewards for holders. If you want to earn from Bitcoin, you need to lend it, trade it, or use third-party platforms. But the Bitcoin network itself gives you nothing extra. You hold it for value, not income. You can still buy bitcoin with Visa or Mastercard on crypto exchanges if you believe in its long-term potential.

Staking vs. Traditional Dividends

Staking looks like dividends, but it works differently. Both give you passive income. You hold an asset and earn rewards over time. But that’s where the similarity ends. Companies pay dividends from profits. Blockchains reward you for helping run the network. Staking involves risk—tokens can drop in value, or you can lose access if you stake on a bad platform. Dividends usually stay more stable, but offer lower returns. With staking, you often earn more, but you take on more risk. And sometimes, you can’t touch your tokens for a while. Always check the rules. If you want higher yield and don’t mind market swings, staking wins. If you prefer stability, dividends work better. You choose what fits your plan.

Cryptocurrency risks to take into consideration

Volatility kills gains.

Prices swing fast. One day you’re up 40%, next day you’re down 60%. You stake a coin, it tanks. You farm a token, it drops overnight. So yeah, even if you earn rewards, they might not mean much. Value can vanish in hours. You need to track prices. Watch trends. Don’t lock your funds in weak projects. And don’t assume past gains mean future profits. Nothing stays stable here. Stay ready.

Regulation bites hard.

Rules change fast. One day staking’s fine. Next day, banned. Governments crack down without warning. Some tax rewards like income. Others treat them like capital gains. You get hit either way. And yeah, it depends where you live. The UK? The US? The rules differ. You must read the latest laws. Know your tax position. And keep records. If you ignore it, the fines pile up. Not fun.

Security breaks everything.
Hacks happen. A lot. DeFi platforms get drained. Exchanges freeze withdrawals. Smart contracts contain bugs—big ones. One wrong click? You lose it all. You need to use trusted platforms. Cold wallets beat hot wallets. Always. Set up two-factor. Use strong passwords. Don’t fall for phishing links. No one gives free ETH. If it looks shady, it is. And once it’s gone, that’s it. No refunds. No reset button.

Conclusion

Crypto can pay you. That’s the main idea. But it doesn’t work like stocks.

Some coins reward you for holding—like NEO, VeChain, or KCS. Others need you to stake, lend, or use DeFi platforms. Each method pays differently. Each one comes with risk.

Volatility hits fast. Rules change. Platforms break. You must stay alert. Always.

Don’t chase high returns blindly. Learn how the system works. Pick trusted platforms. And never risk more than you can afford to lose.

Want passive income from crypto? It’s possible. But you need a plan. And yeah, a bit of caution goes a long way.
