In 1983, Star Wars fans got something wild—a 30-minute audio drama on vinyl. Rebel Mission to Ord Mantell let you hear Han, Luke, Leia, and Chewie blast their way through a mission packed with treachery, decoys, and droids. Written by Brian Daley, the same guy behind the Star Wars radio plays, this was the prequel-before-the-prequel to The Empire Strikes Back. A galaxy far, far away… spun at 33 RPM.
The Flower Kings Release New Single “Burning Both Edges” Ahead of 17th Studio Album ‘LOVE’ Out May 2
The Flower Kings will be releasing their 17th studio album LOVE on May 2nd, 2025. With 17 studio albums, countless live recordings, and performances at festivals and tours worldwide, over a 30-year career, their influence on progressive rock is undeniable and only continues to grow.
Now, the band is pleased to share the single “Burning Both Edges”, the second track taken from the album LOVE. Roine Stolt describes the new track: “‘Burning Both Edges’ is another song from our album LOVE; We live in troubled times where stupidity and fear always seem to push us to yet another conflict, another war.
“LOVE could change everything, but we chose to burn the house down time after time. The world is indeed burning in so many ways – east, west, high, low and yet we choose to follow leaders that are not fit to lead. This song is a piece in the puzzle, meant to be heard in a sequence and context that is our new album song-cycle LOVE.”
The album features the three original members—Roine Stolt, Hasse Fröberg, and Michael Stolt—alongside relative newcomers Mirko DeMaio and Lalle Larsson. Together, they have crafted an album that embodies the essence of progressive rock from the late sixties and early seventies. This era was marked by a departure from the norm of seeking hit singles, embracing creativity with bell-bottoms, Mellotrons, Moogs, phasing, flanging, and epic compositions. The Flower Kings have always had a knack for writing songs that blend pop sensibilities with experimental and jam band influences.

RÜFÜS DU SOL Announce ‘Inhale / Exhale Remixed’ Album Ahead of Massive 2024-2025 World Tour
Today Grammy-winning live electronic trio RÜFÜS DU SOL announce Inhale / Exhale Remixed, the official remix package for their acclaimed album Inhale / Exhale, set to arrive on May 2. Offering a glimpse into the upcoming 15-track remix collection, Adriatique’s remix of “In the Moment” is out now via Rose Avenue/Reprise Records. Listen HERE and pre-order Inhale / Exhale Remixed HERE.
A celebration of their deep-rooted connection to clubland and undeniable influence in the electronic space, Inhale / Exhale Remixed further expands on the band’s legacy as both creators and tastemakers. Curated by the trio, Inhale / Exhale Remixed will feature Turkish-Italian underground favorite Carlita, Haitian house producer Francis Mercier, Peruvian DJ Sofia Kourtesis, Swiss heavyhitter Andrea Oliva, German deep house artist Emanuel Satie, melodic innovator Enamour, Afro-tech powerhouse Nitefreak, and more alongside Adriatique’s “In The Moment” remix.
Leading Inhale / Exhale Remixed, Adriatique envelope “In the Moment” in their signature sound, lifting RÜFÜS’ soft original with ethereal synthwork and driving basslines to cadence the energy of the dancefloor. RÜFÜS and Adriatique have a collaborative history, starting when the Swiss duo’s remix of “On My Knees” launched the band’s Surrender (Remixes) in 2022. The following year, RÜFÜS offered their take on Adriatique and WhoMadeWho’s Rose Avenue-released single “Miracle”. The “In The Moment” remix sees the pairing come full circle with a rework that embodies the after-hours pulse of Inhale / Exhale Remixed.
Since the release of their widely celebrated fifth studio album last October, RÜFÜS DU SOL have cemented their status as one of the most successful live electronic acts in the world. They’ve broken personal records, like debuting on the Billboard 200 chart and earning their first No.1 on dance radio with “Music is Better”. Their ongoing Inhale / Exhale World Tour is the biggest-selling single artist electronic music tour of all time, a new milestone for the band.
The tour kicked off last month in South America with headline stops and performances at Lollapalooza Argentina, Brazil, and Chile. Adriatique’s “In the Moment” remix arrives just in time for the North American leg of the tour, which will start with a trio of sold out shows in Texas. The tour will continue into the summer for a nearly sold out run with stops in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, and Toronto, along with festival appearances at Lollapalooza and Up In The Sky.
Stream Adriatique’s “In The Moment” remix available now on all platforms and pre-order Inhale / Exhale Remixed.
RÜFÜS DU SOL are the Grammy-winning live electronic trio formed in Sydney Australia, composed of Jon George, James Hunt, and Tyrone Lindqvist, who are now one of the genre’s most highly regarded studio and touring acts. Known for creating emotive electronic music built for the dancefloor, RÜFÜS have released four studio albums, including their most recent full length effort Surrender, which saw them tour across 60 cities, selling 700,000 tickets globally. RÜFÜS’ Jon George and James Hunt have also fostered a DJ project for the project, which triumphs as one of the most popular in the space. The band have translated this success into their own Rose Avenue imprint and boutique Sundream festival in Tulum and Baja, Mexico.
Adriatique – aka Adrian Shala and Adrian Schweizer, have been making waves in electronic music for nearly 15 years, crafting a signature sound and pushing creative boundaries. Their label, Siamese which launched in 2016, has become a trusted space for fresh talent and forward-thinking music. With X, they have built more than just a brand: it’s a platform for music, events, and art that brings their vision to life. Today, multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated rock band Counting Crows release their newest single, ‘Under The Aurora’, the latest offering from their highly anticipated new album Butter Miracle, The Complete Sweets!, out May 9 via BMG.
Following the emotional depth of first single ‘Spaceman In Tulsa’, ‘Under The Aurora’ continues the band’s rich legacy of sweeping soundscapes and storytelling. Nick Lowe & Los Straitjackets Announce Summer 2025 Tour Dates
Nick Lowe and Los Straitjackets have announced their latest run of US tour dates, bringing songs from their acclaimed new album Indoor Safari -“a masterclass in simple elegance and timeless tunes” (Salon) – to Summer stages in July and August.
The dates follow a sold-out West Coast run earlier this year, which saw Lowe and the Straitjackets playing multiple nights at LA’s Troubadour, Seattle’s Tractor Tavern, and more. Reviewing opening night at the Troubadour, Music Connection reported that Lowe & Co. delivered a “stunning set” to a “sardine-can packed room.”
For a preview of the upcoming dates, Yep Roc will release a new Nick Lowe live album (Not) Indoor Safari Vol. 1 for Record Store Day 2025. Recorded across a series of shows in 2024, pressed on classic black vinyl and limited to 3,000 copies worldwide, the album features brand new versions of all-time Lowes such as “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding” and “When I Write the Book,” acclaimed later-period compositions like “Lately I’ve Let Things Slide,” and Indoor Safari standouts “Love Starvation” and “Blue on Blue.”
Released by Yep Roc Records last Fall, Indoor Safari marks Lowe’s first studio LP release in over a decade and his first-ever long player with backing from the Straitjackets. Hailed as “effortlessly cool” (Paste) and “a match made in heaven” (Forbes), Indoor Safari includes brand-new Nick Lowe originals, deep-cut rarities, and refitted versions of songs previously released in nascent form as singles. Produced by Lowe, Indoor Safari was recorded in various locations and mixed by Alex Hall (JD McPherson, Cactus Blossoms) alongside Lowe at Reliable Recorders in Chicago. The album represents a culmination of Lowe’s decade-long working relationship with Los Straitjackets: Eddie Angel/guitar, Pete Curry/bass, Chris Sprague/drums, and Greg Townson/guitar.

Goodbye to the Ace of Bass: Remembering Dave Allen of Gang of Four
The bass barked, grooved, and cut through the noise in the band Gang of Four. And at the centre of that rhythm stood Dave Allen, the “Ace of Bass” whose playing helped define post-punk as we know it. He was the movement. Dave Allen, who passed away at 69 after living with early-onset dementia, was a giant with a groove. His influence ran deep, even when his name stayed quiet. Today and for a long time, he’ll be remembered not just through his iconic basslines, but through the lesser-known stories that made him legendary.
1. He once planned a 20-album release series.
Allen was famously ambitious. After launching World Domination Recordings, I had several dealings with him while we distributed the label at KOCH. At the time, I was both an admirer and slightly intimidated—his legendary status was palpable, and you could feel it in the air whenever he visited the office. He began work on an ambitious 20-volume music series—but only three were ever released. He said the rest would arrive “eventually,” and even unfinished, the idea itself reflects a mind always bursting with vision.
2. He never liked being called “cool.”
Despite shaping one of the most influential bands in alternative music, Allen disliked being thought of as “cool.” In interviews, he’d often downplay his status, redirecting praise to the creative chemistry of Gang of Four or the raw energy of the audiences. For him, music was about movement—not image.
3. He had a soft spot for education.
Later in life, Allen lectured and blogged about digital strategy and music tech, becoming an informal educator to artists navigating a changing industry. He believed musicians should own their voices and data, years before it became a common conversation. His intellect was as sharp as his basslines.
4. He was a fan of punk, funk… and Prince.
While known for his post-punk pedigree, Allen was a massive Prince fan and often spoke of the power of groove and melody. His bass playing echoed that love of syncopation—marrying the cerebral with the danceable, the angry with the joyful. “Make them think, then make them dance,” he’d say.
5. He created a supergroup most people never heard of.
In 2006, Allen quietly formed Faux Hoax with Danny Seim (Menomena), John Askew, and author Adam Gnade. Their only release was a 7-inch single—but for those who heard it, it was pure Dave Allen: experimental, raw, surprising, and totally sincere.
Dave Allen’s passing is a blow to anyone who ever found joy in the off-kilter rhythms and confrontational art of Gang of Four. But beyond the stage, he was an educator, innovator, and endlessly curious human being. He played the bass with purpose, a voice, a backbone. Rest easy, Ace of Bass. We’ll be dancing in your memory for a long, long time.
