The Waterboys Unveil ‘Life, Death And Dennis Hopper’ with Fiona Apple-Assisted Single

0

Ahead of the release of their new album Life, Death And Dennis Hopper, out 4 April on Sun Records, The Waterboys today release the lyric video for “Letter From An Unknown Girlfriend” featuring Fiona Apple.

The most audacious Waterboys album yet, Life, Death And Dennis Hopper is the epic story of the trailblazing American actor and rebel told through a song cycle depicting not only Hopper’s story, but the saga of the last 75 years of western pop culture.

“The arc of his life was the story of our times,” says Mike Scott, “He was at the big bang of youth culture in Rebel Without A Cause with James Dean; the beginnings of Pop Art with the young Andy Warhol. He was part of the counterculture, hippie, civil rights and psychedelic scenes of the ’60s. In the ’70s and ’80s he went on a 10-year rip, almost died, came back, got straight and became a five-movies-a-year character actor without losing the sparkle in his eye or the sense of danger or unpredictability that always gathered around him.”

Scott worked for 4 years on Life, Death And Dennis Hopper. Produced with Waterboys bandmates Famous James and Brother Paul, the album spans 25 tracks and traces the extraordinary arc of Hopper’s life, from his youth in Kansas to his long rise, five wives, tumultuous fall, and ultimate redemption. Every track has its own special place and fascinating, deep-rooted story.

The album is The Waterboys’ first for Sun and alongside Scott’s masterful songwriting, the album features a stellar lineup of guests including Bruce Springsteen, Fiona Apple, Steve Earle, Nashville-based Alt Americana artist Anana Kaye, young English singer Barny Fletcher, Norwegian country-rockers Sugarfoot, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, Kathy Valentine of The Go-Go’s, and punk arch-priestess Patti Palladin – incorporating a kaleidoscopic blend of genres that embodies the band’s trademark spirit of musical exploration.

Casper Allen & The Naturals Unleash Debut Single “Damned Old Sun” Ahead of ‘The Hard Way’ EP

0

Casper Allen & The Naturals are kicking off the year with the release of their debut single, “Damned Old Sun,” a soulful, hard-hitting track that marks the beginning of a new era for the Texas-born troubadour and his powerhouse band (featuring critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter Shawn Hess on bass and R. Cooper Long locking in the rhythm).

The track is accompanied by a visually stunning music video directed by Greg Lewis. “Damned Old Sun” is the first taste of The Hard Way, the group’s upcoming debut EP set for release in May.

“‘Damned Old Sun’ was written as I was becoming conscious of the dissolution of my marriage,” says Allen. “I was thinking back on better times and walking along the beach in the Peconic Bay in New York, and the lyrics just started coming to me. I was listening to Roy Orbison’s Crying album non-stop at the time, so, apologies to Roy if I accidentally swiped any ideas.”

Following a decade-long solo career that saw him honing his craft on the road in the tradition of songwriting legends like Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, Allen has assembled this three-piece band that embodies the spirit of Americana music in its rawest, most electrifying form. The Naturals deliver a genre-blurring sound that fuses Texas blues, honky-tonk, R&B, and vintage rock & roll.

The band’s formation was as organic as their sound. “This was from our first recording session, which, coincidentally, was also the first day we ever played together,” Allen shares. “Shawn and I had messed around a little, but I’d never played with Cooper before. Three of the tracks on the EP are the takes from that very first day. The session went so well, we all looked at each other and went: ‘We should take this on the road.’ And here we are, 100 cheeseburgers and a few thousand miles later.”

Recorded in a whirlwind session at Shawn Hess’ place in Laramie, WY with Ruebin Buchanan running the tape machines, the EP captures the raw energy of a band in perfect sync from day one. “We started on Saturday morning, took a three-hour break for a gig that night, came back, recorded more, and did a track the next morning before everyone had to leave,” says Allen. “When Ruebin sent us the files, we were all texting each other like, ‘Holy, these rule.’ I just drove around banging that for like three hours.”

With “Damned Old Sun” and The Hard Way EP, Casper Allen & The Naturals are set to carve out their own space in the ever-evolving landscape of Americana music. Get ready for a year of relentless touring, soul-shaking performances, and storytelling at its finest.

Casper Allen & The Naturals debut single “Damned Old Sun” is out now. The group’s The Hard Way EP will be released in May.

Sony Music Publishing Nashville Honors Jeannie Seely with Reimagined Classics Featuring Rising Stars

Sony Music Publishing Nashville honors iconic country star Jeannie Seely this Women’s History Month by bringing three reimagined songs to fans through collaborations with rising female country artists. The series, which launched on March 14 with “Let’s Get Together” featuring Mae Estes, continues throughout March with the release of “Who Needs You” with Hannah Dasher and Tiera on the 21st and “Anyone Who Knows What Love Is (Will Understand)” with Madeline Edwards on the 28th.

Grand Ole Opry legend Jeannie Seely, known as ‘Miss Country Soul,’ has performed over 5,400 times on the Grand Ole Opry stage throughout her nearly 58-year tenure, more than any other country artist in the show’s 100-year history. Her expansive career as a songwriter and performer began with her 1966 hit “Don’t Touch Me” and continues to endure today, cementing her legacy as an influential mentor for female artists at the Opry and beyond.

Jeannie Seely said, “What an honor to be a part of this exciting new Sony Music Publishing Production with Chelsea Kent.  It is one thing to have your old copyrights reinvented in a fresh light, but yet another to be included on the recordings as well!  It has been a joy to work with some of the brightest and most talented young artists and musicians who are leading our industry into the future.”

“We are honored to represent Jeannie Seely and her incredible catalog of songs. She is a genre-defining artist and songwriter who has continued to be one of the greatest mentors across multiple generations of country music. This project showcases our team’s unique ability to bring value to our songwriters in innovative ways, and we are grateful for Jeannie’s partnership on these exciting new releases,” said Rusty Gaston, CEO, Sony Music Publishing Nashville.

Newly recorded by Mae Estes, the project’s first release, “Let’s Get Together,” is an unreleased song written by Jeannie Seely and Glen Campbell. Discovered by SMP catalog expert Dale Bobo in Sony Music Publishing Nashville’s tape room, this hidden gem has been revitalized through modern technology by engineer Jason Hall, enabling a new artist to join the recording.

Dropping on March 21, the second release, “Who Needs You,” is a fun and rowdy track that’s already an Opry favorite and is perfect for a girls’ night out. Solely written by Jeannie Seely and recorded at Sony Tree Studio A, the track features Jeannie, Hannah Dasher and Tiera and is produced by multi-year ACM Electric Guitar Player of the Year Rob McNelley.

The final installment in the series arrives on March 28 with “Anyone Who Knows What Love Is (Will Understand),” featuring Seely and Opry Next inductee Madeline Edwards. Co-produced by Edwards and McNelley, the release brings a fresh perspective to the iconic R&B hit.

Karley Scott Collins Falls for an “American Boy” in Her Latest Release

0

Rising country singer, songwriter, musician and producer Karley Scott Collins is finding love with an “American Boy,” on her brand-new song, out now.

“I wrote this song about a night that I walked into a room, saw someone, and instantly thought ‘I have to know this person,'” explains Collins. “I’ve always had a thing for old school James Dean-type of person who maybe has some tattoos, maybe rides a motorcycle. There was something about the electricity the first time we made eye contact that made me want to write a song.”

Co-written with Alex Kline and Joybeth Taylor – and co-produced with Nathan Chapman – “American Boy” highlights Collins’ emotional rasp as she celebrates the classic elements of a quintessential heartthrob with a wild side:

His heart’s on his sleeve in that tattoo
My daddy don’t like it but I do
He’s a Levi jeans real McCoy
Yeah, I think I’m in love with an American boy

Named an artist to watch by the Nashville Briefing and a CMT Next Woman of Country, Collins will join Morgan Wade for select dates of her OBSESSED TOUR European leg, performing in the Netherlands, U.K., and Ireland. Collins was also recently announced as an opener on Keith Urban’s 2025 HIGH AND ALIVE TOUR across the U.S. and Canada. Kicking off May 22 in Orange Beach, AL, Collins will support on more than 40 dates.

Grace VanderWaal Announces CHILDSTAR, Her Most Personal Album Yet, Out April 4

0

Internationally acclaimed artist and actress Grace VanderWaal announces today, the release of her highly anticipated sophomore studio album, CHILDSTAR, due April 4 via PULSE Records. Undoubtedly, her most personal body of work to date, on CHILDSTAR VanderWaal amplifies the sound of healing scars, shedding skin, and stepping into her power, channeling her inspiration from artists like Fiona Apple and Björk and exploring her experience growing up in the limelight.

Alongside the album announcement, Grace releases a brand new song, “Proud.” An old music box plays a lilting lullaby in the song’s opening. “Promise I’ll be small. I won’t take up space at all…Ground yourself. Remember your place. You don’t have a voice yet. You don’t get to say,” she sings. Strings hang over a wave of distortion, climaxing on an affirmation, “‘Cause you’re so special.”

“As a kid, you have an undying need for validation,” Grace explains. “In some cases, you abandon yourself, and you aren’t granted what you need mentally. You’re choosing to be strong, only because it’s your responsibility to be strong. You’re adopting strength when it’s not appropriate. It was important for me to use phrases like, ”Cause you’re so special’, because they’re weaponized words to control children. Since you’re young, you want to feel strong, mature, and grown up, but no kid should have to do all of those things. Proud is the story of the ‘golden child’ archetype. A child who neglects their needs in order to be seen as valued, loved, or mature. It’s the first song off my new album CHILDSTAR.”

Also announced today, Grace will be taking CHILDSTAR on the road, with a six city North American Tour, marking her first tour since 2019. CHILDSTAR – ON TOUR kicks off May 4 in Chicago, and includes dates in Toronto, Washington, DC, New York City, and Los Angeles, before concluding May 21 in San Francisco.

The Knocks & Dragonette Announce Collaborative Album Revelation, Out June 6

0

New York City electronic duo The Knocks and Canadian electro-pop powerhouse artist Dragonette (aka Martina Sorbara) announce their debut collaborative album Revelation to be released on June 6th via Neon Gold Records / Futures / Virgin.

Along with the announcement, they reveal the third installment of their collaborative journey entitled “Foolish Pleasure”, after earlier releasing “Revelation” and “The Hero”. Once again, they deliver a match made in dance-pop heaven. This new era is set in a 1980’s corporate liminal space at the fictional company Revelation Technologies, with Aquaria (RuPaul’s Drag Race winner) being the muse. The campaign is a satirical look at the homogenization of marketing and art in the modern landscape, presented through the lens of “executives” selling magic pill products by way of corporate doublespeak and overt sales tactics. This collaboration is a follow-up to The Knocks & Dragonette’s 2019 GRAMMY-nominated single “Slow Song.”

Revelation Technologies’ official spokesperson says: “Have you ever wondered if you’re having enough fun? Well, are you?! Here at Revelation Technologies, we say more is more when it comes to pleasure. Mark your calendars for March 21st when our new product Foolish Pleasure can be yours. One click on the link and you will have all the foolish pleasure you’ll ever need.”

Dragonette (aka Martina Sorbara) adds: “This song started off so differently than it ended up. In fact, I don’t think any single vocal from the original idea stayed in the final version. But the feeling and the emotion of it was always the same. I think everyone can relate at some point to the sense that work and stress and responsibilities have taken over your life and it can reach the point that the pursuit of adventure and spontaneity feels like necessary medicine.”

Stay tuned for more songs to be revealed by Revelation Technologies. Please keep a close eye on The Knocks & Dragonette and the muse Aquaria, and get ready for the big reveal on June 6th.

20 of the Greatest Songs with an Accordion in Them

There’s something about the sound of an accordion that instantly transports you to another place. Whether it’s a smoky Parisian café, a raucous zydeco dancehall, or a folk festival under the open sky, the accordion has an undeniable magic. Some of the greatest songs in music history have been elevated by its unmistakable wheeze, adding depth, nostalgia, or just plain fun. Here are 20 of the greatest songs featuring an accordion:

1. Bruce Springsteen – ‘Atlantic City’ The Boss knew what he was doing when he added a haunting accordion to this stripped-down masterpiece when performed live. It turns a song about desperation and hope into something even more evocative.

2. The Band – ‘Rockin’ Chair’ Garth Hudson’s accordion work is pure magic on this deep cut from The Band, evoking the slow, swaying movement of the sea and the passage of time.

3. The Pogues – ‘Fairytale of New York’ An iconic Christmas classic, made all the more poignant and waltzy thanks to James Fearnley’s expert accordion playing.

4. Los Lobos – ‘La Bamba’ A rock ‘n’ roll staple with deep Mexican folk roots, and you better believe the accordion helps drive it home.

5. Paul Simon – ‘The Boy in the Bubble’ One of the most thrilling opening lines of any album, with that punchy, South African-influenced accordion riff setting the tone for Graceland.

6. Tom Waits – ‘Tango Till They’re Sore’ Tom Waits and the accordion go together like whiskey and a rainy night. This one sounds like a drunken waltz through a dimly lit saloon.

7. Bob Dylan – ‘When I Paint My Masterpiece’ Dylan’s love for folk music shines with a rich accordion backing, perfectly capturing the song’s romantic, globe-trotting feel.

8. Arcade Fire – ‘Wake Up’ The accordion adds an extra layer of magic to one of the most anthemic indie rock songs of the 21st century.

9. The Who – ‘Squeeze Box’ Okay, so it’s a cheeky song about more than just an accordion, but the instrument itself takes center stage and makes this one of The Who’s quirkiest hits.

10. Flogging Molly – ‘Drunken Lullabies’ Irish punk meets rollicking folk, and the accordion is right in the middle of the storm.

11. They Might Be Giants – ‘Istanbul (Not Constantinople)’ As playful as they come, the accordion in this one is as essential as the lyrics themselves.

12. Weird Al Yankovic – ‘Polka Power!’ Because no list about accordions is complete without the polka master himself. Weird Al has brought the accordion to the masses like no other musician.

13. Edith Piaf – ‘La Vie en Rose’ Possibly the most famous accordion song of all time. Paris in a song.

14. The Decemberists – ‘Eli, The Barrow Boy’ The accordion adds a mournful, old-world charm to this folk ballad of love and loss.

15. Dire Straits – ‘Romeo and Juliet’ Mark Knopfler’s storytelling is stunning, and the accordion adds the perfect backdrop to this cinematic love story.

16. Dropkick Murphys – ‘Shipping Up to Boston’ This one makes you want to stomp your boots and throw back a pint, all thanks to its Celtic punk energy—powered in part by the mighty accordion.

17. John Mellencamp – ‘Cherry Bomb’ A nostalgic anthem about youth and small-town life, made even richer with an accordion running through it.

18. The Mavericks – ‘All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down’ A Tex-Mex banger that gets its infectious groove from the accordion’s unmistakable sway.

19. Manu Chao – ‘Bongo Bong’ A globetrotting hit with an accordion riff that’s pure joy.

20. Queen – ‘Seaside Rendezvous’ Freddie Mercury could do it all—including crafting a playful tune with accordion flourishes that bring a touch of old-school charm.

Now, this is list is…err…accordion to me, and remember, if you ever find yourself at a party where someone busts out an accordion, do the right thing—hand them a beer, give them a nod of respect, and prepare to have your mind blown. Because nothing gets a room going quite like an unexpected accordion solo

Five Unknown Facts About Q Lazzarus, The Mysterious Voice Behind “Goodbye Horses”

0

It’s really hard to be an artist. You burst into the spotlight, bask in fame, and remain in the public eye for decades. But if you’re part of the other 99.99%, and keep good company, like with Q Lazzarus—a singer who delivered one of the most haunting songs of the late ’80s, disappeared into obscurity, and left behind a mystery that even the best Hollywood thriller couldn’t script. Best known for “Goodbye Horses,” which found a permanent home in pop culture thanks to The Silence of the Lambs, Q Lazzarus (born Diane Luckey) was a talent whose music remains as enigmatic as her life. Here are five lesser-known facts about the woman behind the song that still gives audiences chills.

1. “Goodbye Horses” Almost Never Made It Out of a New York City Taxi

Before she became a cult music icon, Q Lazzarus was driving taxis in New York City. One fateful night, she picked up filmmaker Jonathan Demme during a blizzard. Never one to waste an opportunity, she popped in a demo tape of her music. Demme was floored, and right then and there, a partnership was born. He included her track “Candle Goes Away” in Something Wild (1986) and later gave “Goodbye Horses” a cinematic immortality by placing it in The Silence of the Lambs. The moral of the story? Always check your cab driver’s playlist—you might be hearing a future classic.

2. She Lived in London and Formed a Rock Band in the Late ’80s

For all the new wave, synth-pop, and darkwave vibes that “Goodbye Horses” radiates, Q Lazzarus wasn’t confined to just one sound. After her brief rise in the U.S., she moved to London in the late 1980s and fronted a hard rock band influenced by Aerosmith. With bandmates like Mark Barrett on guitar and Jon Bouillot on bass, she leaned into a grittier, rock-oriented sound, proving her versatility. However, much like her previous work, these recordings remained largely unheard until after her passing.

3. She Was Once Told She Couldn’t Be Marketed Because of Her Image

Music executives are notorious for their shortsightedness, and Q Lazzarus was a prime example of an artist who was ahead of her time. Despite her powerhouse vocals and striking presence, record labels repeatedly rejected her. The reason? They didn’t know how to market a “big-boned, dreadlocked African-American woman who sings rock and roll.” Instead of conforming, she stayed true to herself. While the industry ignored her, The Silence of the Lambs and generations of underground music fans proved them wrong.

4. She Disappeared for Decades—and Resurfaced as a Bus Driver

Q Lazzarus’ withdrawal from the music industry wasn’t just an artistic choice—it was a complete vanishing act. By the mid-’90s, she left the spotlight entirely. For years, fans speculated about her whereabouts, with some even believing she had died. Then, in 2019, a journalist for Dazed tracked her down and discovered that she was alive and working as a Staten Island bus driver. When asked about her past, she casually confirmed her identity but stated she had no interest in returning to music. “I see hundreds of passengers every day, so I am hardly hiding,” she said—yet to the music world, she had been a ghost.

5. Her Life Story Became a Documentary Just Before She Passed Away

In an almost poetic twist, Q Lazzarus finally chose to share her story—just before her untimely death. In 2019, she met filmmaker Eva Aridjis, who was stunned to realize she was sitting in a car driven by the elusive singer. The two quickly became friends and spent three years filming Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus, a documentary chronicling her musical journey, her lost recordings, and the mystery that surrounded her disappearance. Though she passed away in 2022 from sepsis after breaking her leg, her voice and legacy live on through the film and its accompanying soundtrack.

Q Lazzarus was more than just a one-song wonder—she was a force of nature, a storyteller, and a singer who refused to be boxed in by an industry that didn’t know what to do with her. Though she spent decades out of the public eye, her music continued to resonate in films, TV shows, and dance clubs around the world. Whether it’s Goodbye Horses haunting a new generation of listeners or long-lost recordings surfacing from the vault, one thing is certain—her legacy is only beginning to be fully understood. And that, in itself, is pure rock and roll.

Theme Song for the Ending

“Anata wa Kaibutsu(you are my monster)” by TOOBOE

Lyrics, Composition, and Arrangement by TOOBOE

Release: Summer 2025

TOOBOE( Ending theme song artist)

Hello, I’m TOOBOE, and I will be in charge of the ending theme song. In creating this piece, I delved deeply into the original story, contemplating how one might savor memories and promises upon realizing that the neighbor the one believed to be true isn’t actually who the one thought. The more I tried to understand Yoshiki’s feelings, the more pure, sorrowful, and cruel they became. The resulting song, “Anata wa Kaibutsu(you are my monster)” became a kind of forgiveness that I extended to the characters. I hope it can add a vibrant touch to this wonderful story. Thank you for your support.

A solo project led by the music creator “john,” TOOBOE is involved in a wide range of creative activities, including lyrics, composition, arrangement, singing, illustration, and video production. With a distinctive voice and catchy, addictive music, TOOBOE is a multi-artist who seamlessly traverses the modern music scene between the internet and J-POP. TOOBOE made a major debut with the release of the first single “SHINZOU(HEART)” in April 2022. The song “JOUZAI(TABLET),” released in November 2022, was featured as the ending theme for Episode 4 of the TV anime “Chainsaw Man.” Furthermore, the music video for “ITAINO ITAINO TONDEIKE” released in June 2024, has gained momentum worldwide, surpassing 20 million views on YouTube faster than ” SHINZOU(HEART)” and ” JOUZAI(TABLET),” both of which had already exceeded 20 million views.
