Peter Murphy Unveils New Single “The Artroom Wonder” Featuring TOOL’s Justin Chancellor And Produced by Youth

0

“’THE ARTROOM WONDER’ is an echo from my fourth year at senior school,” explains post-punk icon PETER MURPHY about his new single which is released today, March 21, 2025 via Metropolis Records. “Daniel Ash [former Bauhaus bandmate] and I are listening to the mysterious sixth-year cool intelligentsia that have gathered in the artroom. We have dared to enter their conclave, and the music coming from it was intriguing. We discover that the song being played is ‘The Bewlay Brothers’, highly intelligent, mystical and sensual, with the singer’s voice as seductive as anyone I’d ever heard.” Listen here.

Taken from his upcoming album SILVER SHADE (release date: May 9, 2025), “The Artroom Wonder” features TOOL’s Justin Chancellor on bass, one of many guest musicians on Murphy’s album which will be released on 2xLP (with color variants), CD and digital formats. Produced by YOUTH (Pink Floyd, Killing Joke, The Orb, Paul McCartney “The Firemen,” Faith No More, Alien Sex Fiend, Siouxsie and the Banshees), the album was recorded at Youth’s studio in Spain and is the second album that the pair have worked on together since 2014’s Lion. A symbiotic relationship born of artistic collaboration, Silver Shade is, as he recently attested, “as powerful as any of my work to date.”

“[‘The Artroom Wonder’] has a surreal approach, telling the story in my typical oblique style, including the description of a lowdown that leads into an evocation of the perfected human being, the Prophet Muhammad (may peace be upon him),” explains Murphy about the song. “The final verse celebrates my own self-advancing and position on this.”

Following the release of “Swoon” in mid-February and last year’s surprise duet with Boy George, “Let The Flowers Grow” (which is included on the album as a bonus track), “The Artroom Wonder” explores the transformative power of art and music, celebrating the beauty of creativity, and the way art and music can bridge gaps between people, stir deep emotions, and reflect the human soul. It’s about finding solace, joy, and inspiration in the process of creation, whether it’s a painting, a song, or any form of self-expression.

Peter Murphy’s solo career began in 1986 with the release of Should The World Fail To Fall Apart and continues to this day. His nine previous albums have spawned such decisive singles as “All Night Long,” “Indigo Eyes,” “Cuts You Up,” “Strange Kind of Love,” “The Scarlet Thing In You,” “Seesaw Sway,” and “I Am My Own Name.”

First emerging from the British punk and rock underground in the late ‘70s, Murphy (along with bandmates Daniel Ash, David J and Kevin Haskins) fronted the groundbreaking iconic rock band Bauhaus which spawned four iconoclastic and ultra-seminal albums as well as keystone singles “She’s In Parties,” “Dark Entries,” “The Passion of Lovers,” “Silent Hedges,” and, of course, “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” before disbanding in 1983 with a handful of reunions since then.

“THE ARTROOM WONDER” is released today, March 21, 2025 via Metropolis Records. Silver Shade was produced by Youth and will be released May 9, 2025.

Bob Mould Unleashes New Album ‘Here We Go Crazy’ with Electrifying Tour and Jimmy Fallon TV Performance

0

Bob Mould tore up the stage on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with a special performance of new song “When Your Heart Is Broken,” off his highly anticipated new album Here We Go Crazy, out now.

“‘When Your Heart Is Broken’ is built from a familiar blueprint for my work: bright melodies, dark words, loud guitars,” Mould explains. “It’s one of the earliest songs written for Here We Go Crazy, and I added it to my Solo Electric set list in Fall 2022. Some nights, I would play ‘Too Far Down’, followed by ‘When Your Heart Is Broken’, then ask the audience: Which one of the two is heavier? To me, the musical urgency of ‘When Your Heart Is Broken’ is uplifting, the lyrical reflection offers redemption, and it’s most certainly a song I can throw myself into when playing live.”

Here We Go Crazy – which follows 2020’s critically acclaimed Blue Hearts – was heralded at the top of the year by the premiere of the lead single and title track, “Here We Go Crazy,” with anticipation further piqued by last month’s follow-up, the turbulent second single “Neanderthal.” “Here We Go Crazy” was hailed by The Guardian as “a muscular ripper [that] stands alongside Mould’s best” and by Stereogum as “vintage Bob Mould – a concise power-pop jam with a soaring melody and a whole lot of muscle,” the track was joined by an official music video directed by Gus Black (Phoebe Bridgers, Teddy Swims).

Produced by Mould at Chicago, IL’s famed Electrical Audio in early 2024 and then finished and mixed at Oakland, CA’s Tiny Telephone with longtime engineer Beau Sorenson, Here We Go Crazy once again features backing by the crack rhythm section of drummer Jon Wurster and bassist Jason Narducy. Together the trio bring a bracing attack to eleven new Bob Mould songs.

“On the surface, this is a group of straightforward guitar-pop songs. I’m refining my primary sound and style through simplicity, brevity, and clarity,” Mould says. “Under the hood, there’s a number of contrasting themes. Control and chaos, hypervigilance and helplessness, uncertainly and unconditional love.”

Mould and band will mark the arrival of Here We Go Crazy stateside with US headline dates getting underway April 1st at San Diego, CA’s Music Box SD and then traveling through mid-May. Highlights include stops at venues including Pioneertown, CA’s Pappy & Harriet’s (April 2nd), San Francisco, CA’s The Fillmore (April 5th), Seattle, WA’s Neptune Theatre (April 7th), St. Paul, MN’s Palace Theatre (April 19th), Chicago, IL’s Metro (April 25th-26th), Boston, MA Paradise Rock Club (May 2nd), New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge (May 3rd), and Washington, DC’s Black Cat (May 7th). Support comes from special guests including Craig Finn (April 1st-18th), Poster Children (April 19th), J. Robbins (band) (April 25th-May 10th) and Winged Wheel (May 11th).

Psychotropical Orchestra Announces New Album ‘La Travesía’ and Releases First Single “Mal de Amor”

0

Montreal’s Psychotropical Orchestra is set to unveil their latest album, La Travesía, on April 1, 2025, introducing a mesmerizing fusion of Latin rhythms, alternative rock, and intricate sound design. At the heart of this sonic journey are Mariano Franco (vocals & sound design), Fernando Pinzón (guitar & sound design) and Jose Dominguez (drums) —three musicians whose deep-rooted passion for cross-cultural experimentation has shaped the band’s distinctive sound. With influences ranging from Latin tropical music to psychedelic rock and electronic textures, La Travesía is an album that both moves and hypnotizes.

Coinciding with the album release, the band is dropping the first single, “Mal de Amor” out now. “Mal de Amor” captures the raw emotion of love and loss, its infectious rhythm pulsing through distorted guitars and Franco’s evocative vocals, showcasing the band’s ability to weave compelling narratives through music, pushing the boundaries of Latin alternative.
Lyrically, La Travesía explores themes of longing, resilience, and transformation. The album’s title—translated as The Journey—serves as a metaphor for both personal and collective experiences, mirroring the band members’ own paths from their Latin American roots to Montreal’s thriving artistic landscape. Each song is crafted with poetic depth and sonic richness, delivering an experience that resonates on a visceral level. Fans and press will have access to full lyrics alongside the album’s liner notes, offering further insight into the creative process behind each track.

Since their formation, Psychotropical Orchestra has built a reputation for boundary-pushing performances that blend live instrumentation with immersive electronic elements. Their music exists at the crossroads of tradition and modernity, combining the rhythmic intensity of rock with the experimental edge of alternative soundscapes. With previous projects garnering attention across underground and independent music circles, La Travesía marks their most ambitious work to date—a fully realized vision of the band’s genre-blurring identity.

To celebrate the release, Psychotropical Orchestra will take the stage at Montreal’s Quai des Brumes on April 18 at 9:30 PM for an album launch show that promises to be a thrilling, high-energy performance. Fans can expect a dynamic live set, blending the pulsating beats of La Travesía with the band’s signature improvisational spirit. This will be the first opportunity to experience the new material in its full, electrifying form.

HemlockHotel Revives ‘America,” A Folk Rock Anthem That Speaks to Right Now

0

With the heart of classic Americana and the soul of a protest song, “America”, the latest single from Ottawa-based HemlockHotel following “Running Out Of Road,” is an unflinching look at history, inheritance, and the longing for something better. Originally released during the 2020 U.S. presidential election, “America” has only grown more relevant in today’s turbulent times. Re-released in 2025, this evocative track is both a lament and a rallying cry—a song for those who refuse to let hope slip through their fingers.

Inspired by the storytelling traditions of Bruce Springsteen, The Band, and Steve Earle, “America” blends roots-rock grit with folk’s lyrical depth. Led by singer-songwriter Rod Leggett, HemlockHotel crafts a sound that feels both timeless and urgent, carried by the talents of Danny Lee Duke (drums), Mark Strachan (guitar), Gary Archambault (bass), and TJ Jones.

The song’s lyrics reflect on power, corruption, and the cycles that shape generations:

There was his father, drinking again
Waltzing to a tune, an ancient hymn
In the blink of an eye, he saw his future
What can be done, of fathers and sons?

“Some critics wondered why a Canadian band wrote a song about the U.S.,” says Leggett. “The truth is, American politics shape so much of the world, and as neighbors, we feel the ripple effects. The song isn’t just about one country—it’s about waking up to the world’s power plays and deciding whether to accept them or push back.”
Produced by HemlockHotel and David Fournier, “America” captures the tension between frustration and hope, between past and future. It’s a song about coming of age, reckoning with the ideals we’re handed, and daring to demand something better. The accompanying music video, filmed in a historic family barn, adds a visual layer to this generational conversation, featuring scenes of resilience, reflection, and the search for meaning.

HemlockHotel has become known for blending storytelling and social commentary with a sound that nods to the folk-rock greats while forging their own path. The band is currently working on their third studio album with Juno-winning producer Steve Foley, continuing their evolution as one of Canada’s most compelling Americana acts.

JukeBox County Unveils New Folk Single ‘Can You See It?’ – A Journey of Hope and Transformation

0

What if a song could slip through time, bridging past and present, reality and imagination? With their latest single, “Can You See It?,” JukeBox County—the brainchild of musician and mental health advocate Rich Tyo—invites listeners on a mesmerizing sonic journey where mystery, healing, and the unknown collide.

Rooted in folk storytelling but stretching into the surreal, “Can You See It?” Is the first chapter in an unfolding immersive narrative. Inspired by a man who attempted to use JukeBox County’s previous track Wormhole as a guide to slip through time, this new single attempts to bring him back, weaving a tale of connection, resilience, and hope.

The song’s ethereal lyrics capture the tension between the seen and the unseen, the tangible and the mysterious:

Can you see it?
Can you touch it?
Can you tell me
What’s around the bend
And how much did we spend?

Sonically, “Can You See It?” draws comparisons to artists like Iron & Wine, Fleet Foxes, and The Barr Brothers—melding intricate acoustic instrumentation with atmospheric production. The track was brought to life with the help of a stellar lineup of musicians, including Hugh Christopher Brown (keys), Sarah McDermott (backing vocals), Pete Bowers (drums), Winston Vinh (bass), Kevin Bowers (lead guitar), Rocky Roberts (lap steel), and Jason Mercer (12-string acoustic).

“This song was a wake-up call,” says Tyo. “It was inspired by the deep healing and transformation I’ve seen in people navigating psychedelic experiences. I’ve witnessed the loss of hope, and I wanted to create something that could play a small role in rekindling that spark.”

Beyond its hypnotic melodies, “Can You See It?” serves as the opening scene in a larger mythos. As the story unfolds, JukeBox County’s music will chart the journey of a man trapped in a wormhole, his consciousness slipping into the 1890s as a notorious outlaw, Old Slick Sam, crosses into our present world. Through song and community, Tyo hopes to rally listeners to help bridge time, bring lost souls home, and offer a path to redemption.

Set against a backdrop of folk, psychedelia, and cosmic storytelling, “Can You See It?” is both an invitation and an experience—a musical odyssey that beckons listeners to step beyond the veil and into a universe where time, space, and human connection intertwine.

*Vevo Footnotes Celebrates 25 Years of NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye” with Behind-the-Scenes Secrets and Iconic Moments

0

*NSYNC and Vevo premiere a new episode of Footnotes, giving viewers an inside look at “Bye Bye Bye,” the chart-topping hit from their record-breaking album No Strings Attached. The song remains a cultural staple and now marks its 25th anniversary with Vevo Footnotes.

The episode explains how the video was inspired by the album’s cover art, featuring the band as puppets suspended by bungie cords on stage. It also covers how the video’s popularity helped propel the album to debut #1 on the Billboard 200, selling a record-breaking 2.4 million copies in its first week-a milestone that stood until Adele’s 25 in 2015. Additionally, it reveals that Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Fatone perform their own stunts during the train scene. It also touches on Justin Timberlake’s “easy” role in the video, the director’s inspiration from 1951’s ‘Royal Wedding’ with Fred Astaire and how JC Chasez’s love of Robert De Niro’s chase scene in Ronin inspired the car chase.

It also discusses famed choreographer Darrin Henson, known for his work with Britney Spears and The Spice Girls, who created the video’s now-iconic dance routine. Henson, who was considering stepping away from music video choreography, was convinced by *NSYNC’s manager to take on the project, and later that year won an MTV Video Music Award for Best Choreography. Finally, the episode reveals the resurgence of the song with Deadpool & Wolverine with Henson telling Forbes, “I’m happy to see that people are still tapped in, turned on, and tuned in to the ‘Bye Bye Bye’ dance. It’s historical and legendary. I’m grateful to be witnessing it all.”
