The Ultimate Online Casino Games Inspired by Music Icons

0

By Mitch Rice

Casino games take inspiration from a vast array of real-world themes, spanning ancient mythology, nature, and even popular entertainment. Narrowing down on entertainment and showbiz, today’s gaming catalog boasts an impressive selection of slot machines and table games influenced by films, music, art, and literature.

However, it is relatively rare to come across casino games specifically centered around iconic music stars, rather than general musical themes or genres. But that’s not to say they are completely non-existent. Some reputable developers have done amazing work curating games inspired by legendary musicians, living and dead.

In this article, we explore some of the finest in this category, helping you find some musical-themed releases for your next casino adventure.

Jimi Hendrix

First on the list is the Jimi Hendrix slot by NetEnt. Inspired by American guitarist, James Marshall “Jimi” Hendrix, the slot brings to life the genius of the musical virtuoso. The slot was released in 2016 and features the conventional five-reel by three-row interface. For the RTP rate, you have a well above-average 96.90% value alongside a low volatility rating.

Some of the most rewarding bonus features are named after important aspects of Hendrix’s life. There’s the Red Guitar Respin, Crosstown Traffic Free Spins and Purple Haze. Jimi Hendrix himself shows up as the wild, substituting for base game symbols.

Guns N’ Roses

Tagged the greatest Rock N’ Roll band according to Casino.com, Guns N’ Roses are perhaps the only active musical group to have a slot named after them. The casino affiliate platform, known for helping players discover the best gambling sites and bonuses, lists the Guns N’ Roses slot as one of the most exciting musical-themed releases with a 750x jackpot stake.

Guns N’ Roses slot is the brainchild of Swedish developer NetEnt. It has a 96.98% RTP and boasts stunning visuals. Expect to see Axl, Slash and others grace the five-reel by three-row slot grid. There’s also a setlist featuring top songs by the band to get you in the groove while you play.

Ozzy Osbourne

Another NetEnt classic, the Ozzy Osbourne slot was released in 2019 and is inspired by the English hard rock Hall of Famer, John Michael “Ozzy” Osbourne. The slot has trappings of the dark underworld that Ozzy Osbourne was once associated with, including bats. Landing winning combinations on this slot sets off Ozzy’s popular track, ‘Bark at the Moon.’

There are also exciting bonus features on offer, including a Bonus Bet option, Re-Spins, and a Symbol Charge Up. If you’re lucky enough, you can walk home with a max win of 2,500x your base bet.

Michael Jackson: King of Pop

Probably the most famous singer to ever walk on planet Earth, it’s no surprise that Michael Jackson has a slot drawing inspiration from his illustrious career. He’s not dubbed the “King of Pop” for no reason.

Michael Jackson holds the record for the highest number of best-selling albums and is known as the “most successful entertainment of all time” by Guinness World Records. The Michael Jackson: King of Pop was released by Bally Technologies and has five reels with 25 paylines. You can experience top hits while playing, including Smooth Criminal, Billie Jean and Beat It.

Elvis the King Lives

Elvis Presley is another musical legend to have not one, but multiple slots inspired by him. The Elvis the King Lives slot was released by WMS Gaming. Unlike many other slots that feature a five-reel layout, this game has a specially designed 11 reels and 80 paylines.

You can win a jackpot of up to 5,000x your base bet. There’s also a unique Jukebox feature which rewards you with cash and four songs from Elvis Presley, namely Big Hunk O’ Love, Hound Dog, Teddy Bear and Blue Suede Shoes.

Honorable Mention

There are other slots that are inspired by musical icons, some of whom have already been explored above. Below are these slots worthy of an honorable mention:

  • Motörhead by NetEnt
  • Michael Jackson II – Wanna Be Startin Somethin by Bally Technologies
  • Elvis Little More Action by IGT

Final Thoughts

In all, online casinos inspired by musicians offer a blend of entertainment and gaming in one fell swoop. Whether featuring pop sensations or legendary rock bands, these games are a perfect way to pay tribute to musical greats while also offering players an added layer of excitement. Hopefully, the world sees more innovative casino games that celebrate the achievement of artists, active or retired.

How to Make Homecoming Mums

0

By Mitch Rice

Homecoming mums are a great part of homecoming if you’re from Texas, some parts of Oklahoma, or even a few other surrounding states. These big and powerful flowers are made to draw attention to you, and when they’re done right, show just how much school spirit you have to offer. While you can buy homecoming mums from the store, where’s the fun in that?

If you’re curious about going the DIY route or need some helpful ideas, this company is here to help. Read on to learn how to make homecoming mums.

What Is a Homecoming Mum?

A homecoming mum is a chrysanthemum that’s surrounded by ribbons, fabrics, bells, and other materials. They’re meant to be worn during homecoming events like Spirit Week, the pep rally, and sometimes at the sporting event. In fact, sometimes schools in Texas and Oklahoma will want girls to wear homecoming mums over their homecoming dresses (like these) at the dance.

While mums for homecoming are often fancy and fun, students should be creative with them. Sure, you can find some at local stores, but why not make one yourself?

Supplies You Need to Make a Homecoming Mum

Before we dive into how you can make a homecoming mum, we first have to cover the supplies you’ll need to use. These supplies vary based on the specific mum you plan on making, so use them as a loose guide.

Your average homecoming mum kit should include things like:

  • A chrysanthemum flower
  • Ribbons
  • Bells
  • Pipe cleaners to attach things to the flower
  • A class star
  • Glitter and sparkles
  • Streamers
  • Stickers
  • A centerpiece like a bear
  • Trinkets and charms
  • Neck straps
  • Glue
  • Hot glue gun, stapler, and other adhesives

Depending on the type of homecoming mum you want to make, the supplies you’ll need will vary.

How Much Does it Cost to Make a Homecoming Mum?

A homecoming mum can cost as little as $50 to make. However, more expensive mums will cost upwards of $500 if you want to have it done professionally. Plus, some of the materials may be expensive, and if you want to add a lot of layers to your mum, that will drive the cost up.

How to Make a Homecoming Mum

Making a homecoming mum on your own isn’t that challenging, but you will have to spend a good chunk of time on it, especially if you want it to come out well. Fortunately, we can walk you through the entire process from start to finish. The steps below serve as a rough outline for how to make a homecoming mum.

1. Make the Backer Board

First and foremost, you need to make the backer board, which is what holds the mum in place. We recommend cutting out the backer board using materials like cardboard or foam and make sure the diameter of the circle you cut is around 6-8 inches.

2. Attach the Chrysanthemum

Next, it’s time to attach the flower. You’ll want to add the chrysanthemum to the backer board with hot glue, staples, and pipe cleaners. It’s also possible to use multiple backer boards for a more secure fit, so you have plenty of options there.

3. Attach the Ribbons

Once you have the flower attached, you can start to add the ribbons. You’ll want to make sure the ribbons are around two to three feet in length, and we recommend having them match school colors. It’s also a good idea to make your cuts fancy with things like v-cuts.

4. Add Letters and the Name of Your School

Since a homecoming mum is for, well, homecoming, it’s a good idea to add letters and the name of your school. We recommend adding things like your date’s name, your name, and even the name of your school as well. For the letters, you can use stickers or other materials.

5. Decorate Your Homecoming Mum

The last step is to decorate your homecoming mum with trinkets. Many people choose bells, but feathers, glitter, sparkles, and other accessories can be added to the mum. You can also customize the color to reflect your school’s color and identity.

Make the Perfect Homecoming Mum Today!

Homecoming is a big event that tends to last about a week, so your homecoming mum should be something you’re proud of. We recommend spending some time on this one and using a combination of real flowers, ribbons, and other decorations to make your homecoming mum stand out from the rest.

If you ever need any help, you can always come back to the steps we covered in this article. They serve as a rough guideline for what your mum should look like.

Guster & The Mountain Goats Announce Summer Tour + Barenaked Ladies Dates for Last Summer on Earth

0

Guster and The Mountain Goats will embark on an 8-date tour beginning July 27 in Chautauqua, NY and will wrap up on August 3 in Hampton Bays, NY. Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 21 at 12 pm local time. More information and up-to-date news is available at guster.com.

Ahead of the newly announced tour with The Mountain Goats, Guster will join Barenaked Ladies for the June leg of their annual “Last Summer on Earth” tour, beginning June 3 in Atlanta through June 28 in Bend, OR.

Guster’s ninth studio album and first new LP in more than five years, Ooh La La marks a bold departure for the venerable band with a lush and acclaimed expansive sound rich in acoustic guitars and graceful piano work. Mainly produced by Josh Kaufman (The National, The Hold Steady) at Woodstock, NY’s Isokon Studio, with additional production from Ron Aniello (Bruce Springsteen, Bryce Dessner) and Rich Costey (Death Cab for Cutie, Of Monsters and Men), songs like the shimmering first single, “Keep Going” radiate an emotional undercurrent of undeniable warmth, telegraphing an irrepressible joy in the face of turmoil and unrest.

Ooh La La was met by applause and praise from such outlets as Goldmine, which wrote, “This is an album with grandeur. This is what can be built when bands allow themselves to be guided to a conclusion by a collaborator who helps them commit to a vision and vibe. The capacity to surrender to this kind of process has kept Guster relevant and has allowed them to broaden their base and build something most bands never get close to.” In addition, Guster celebrated the album with a wide-ranging appearance on CBS Saturday Morning that included an in-depth conversation about their 30-year career as well as live performances of three songs from Ooh La La including “Keep Going,” “Witness Tree,” and “Black Balloon.”

Steven Wilson Releases ‘The Overview’ And Announces 2025 Tour

0

6x GRAMMY® Award-nominated musician/songwriter/producer Steven Wilson’s eighth album The Overview is out today on Fiction Records. Massively ambitious and hugely expansive, Wilson’s most audacious release to date was recently launched with a sell-out screening of Miles Skarin’s accompanying film at London’s BFI IMAX cinema, before multiple sold-out screenings at theatres around the world.

The Overview consists of just two tracks: “Objects Outlive Us” and “The Overview,” each inspired by the “overview effect” that astronauts experience viewing the Earth from orbit. Although initially a solo recording, the finished version of The Overview features studio help from regular collaborators Craig Blundell (drums), Adam Holzman (keyboards), and Randy McStine (guitars) alongside a set of lyrics from XTC’s Andy Partridge that help form the story that drives “Objects Outlive Us.” The album has a resolutely singular sound and vision that pulls pieces from different periods of Wilson’s 30-plus-year career. There are nods to classic Porcupine Tree records as well as the world-building storytelling of The Raven That Refused To Sing and the forward-thinking electronics of The Future Bites and the spatial audio vision that ran through 2023’s The Harmony Codex. Consistent with Wilson’s reputation as a modern-day producer par excellence the album is also a true audiophile experience, and to this end, spatial / Atmos audio versions of The Overview are available physically and digitally. All vinyl versions of The Overview have been specifically mastered at half speed by Miles Showell at Abbey Road.

The Overview is currently available on vinyl, CD, Blu-ray, limited edition mint vinyl, and digital formats (the deluxe box set format sold out on announcement).

To celebrate the release, Wilson will be setting out on the eagerly awaited North American leg of The Overview Tour – his first full-band solo headline run in the US and Canada in over seven years. Dates get underway for the Live Nation-produced run starting September 9 at San Francisco, CA’s The Masonic and continue through mid-October. Highlights include shows at historic venues as Los Angeles, CA’s The Wiltern (September 10), Toronto, ON’s Danforth Music Hall (September 22), Montreal, QC’s MTELUS (September 25), and Brooklyn, NY’s Brooklyn Paramount (October 2). Artist presales begin Tuesday, January 28 at 10:00 am (local) while on-sales start Friday, January 31 at 10:00 am (local). For complete details and ticket information, please visit stevenwilsonhq.com/tour-dates.

Hailed by David Fricke in Rolling Stone for his “fighting spirit and truly progressive ideals in rock composition, group improvisation and emotionally authentic storytelling,” Steven Wilson is, among his many guises, a visionary solo artist, founding member of GRAMMY® Award-nominated British rock band Porcupine Tree, and pioneering spatial audio remixer known for his work with such artists as King Crimson, Yes, Tears For Fears, XTC, New Order, and many more. The Overview follows Wilson’s seventh solo studio album, 2023’s The Harmony Codex, which debuted at #4 on the UK’s Official Albums Chart amidst worldwide critical applause from the likes of MOJO, which praised the groundbreaking collection as “a sonic journey where you never quite know what’s round the corner.”

2022 saw the internationally acclaimed release of Porcupine Tree’s long-awaited eleventh studio album and first release in over 12 years, Closure/Continuation, which debuted at #2 on the UK Albums Chart and reached #1 in Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. An epic world tour followed, making stops in North America, South America, and Europe before culminating with a triumphant sold-out show at London’s famed OVO Arena Wembley. 2022 also saw the publication of Wilson’s much-applauded first memoir, Limited Edition of One (Little, Brown).

What’s more, 2024 was highlighted by The Itself of Itself, the first full-length release from Wilson’s experimental solo project, Bass Communion, in more than 12 years. The album’s limited-edition release was celebrated with Wilson’s only live appearance of 2024, a sold-out performance at London’s intimate Cafe OTO, as well as the long-awaited arrival of the previous Bass Communion catalog at all leading streaming platforms.

0

Life’s best moments are often the loudest—but now they sound even better. In an exciting collaboration, Loop Earplugs has teamed up with the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival as its first official earplug partner for 2025. This groundbreaking partnership introduces the limited-edition Loop x Coachella Experience 2 earplugs, designed to deliver crystal-clear sound while protecting fans’ hearing—without missing a beat.

Music festivals are as much about style as they are about sound, and Loop is bringing both to the forefront with their sleek, Coachella-inspired earplugs. Designed with 17 dB (SNR) of filtered noise reduction, the Loop x Coachella Experience 2 allows festival-goers to fully immerse themselves in performances while keeping their hearing safe.

This year’s Coachella lineup features music icons like Lady Gaga, Green Day, Post Malone, and Travis Scott—meaning fans will want to be front and center. With Loop’s innovative technology, they can enjoy the electrifying energy of live music without worrying about ringing ears the next day.

“Coachella sets the stage for cultural trailblazing and creativity, which perfectly aligns with our vision at Loop,” says Loop co-founder Dimitri O. “We’re thrilled to co-create something that enhances the live music experience for festival-goers worldwide.”

Coachella’s iconic California sunsets have influenced everything from fashion trends to festival aesthetics. The Loop x Coachella Experience 2 earplugs reflect this with a stunning gradient design inspired by desert hues—soft peach tones blend seamlessly with dreamy blues, capturing the festival’s transition from day to night.

Each pair comes with a Loop x Coachella Carry Case, with an optional Loop x Coachella Link connector cord available separately—perfect for keeping earplugs secure as fans dance from one stage to the next.

Belouis Some Returns to the U.S. for the First Time Since 1986 With Gene Loves Jezebel and Slim Jim Phantom

In the music industry, second chances are often hard to come by. For Belouis Some (real name: Neville Keighley), thankfully his second chance arrives now with a U.S. tour that kicks off on April 8th in Philadelphia’s City Winery and hugs the East Coast with dates in NYC, Cincinnati, and Boston. Coupled with Jay Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel and Slim Jim Phantom (of Stray Cats), it will be his first dates in North America since his tour with Frankie Goes to Hollywood in 1985.

TOUR DATES with Jay Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel and Slim Jim Phantom:

April 8 Philadelphia, PA City Winery
April 9 New York, NY Sony Hall
April 10 Pittsburgh, PA Jergels
April 12 Cincinnati, OH Ludlow Garage
April 13 Detroit, MI Magic Bag
April 16 Pawling, NY Daryl’s House
April 17 Roslyn, NY My Father’s Place
April 20 Boston, MA City Winery

“I’m so excited to be back performing live in the USA,” says Neville excitedly. “I made two albums in New York and it feels like I’m coming home!”

These dates will serve as a taster for his return to North American for the more extensive Summer routing of the Lost ‘80s Live tour with A Flock of Seagulls, The Vapors, Josie Cotton and Big Country.

A fixture in the ‘80s, Belouis Some created the classic international hit singles “Imagination” and “Some People” in 1985. Flanked by his musician pals that included Roland Orzabal, Curt Smith and Manny Elias of Tears for Fears (who played on early recordings with him), Bowie acolytes Carmine Rojas, Robin Clark and Carlos Alomar, Earl Slick, Chic’s Tony Thompson and Bernard Edwards, among many others, he was destined for superstardom. The inclusion of his hit single “Round, Round” on the classic John Hughes’ era defining film soundtrack Pretty In Pink (which was listed in Rolling Stone’s list of “The 25 Greatest Soundtracks of All Time”) and supporting slots on Queen’s famous Knebworth concert (one of the largest concerts ever held in the U.K.) and a massive Swatch advert using “Some People” as a musical bed pretty much cemented his trajectory.

Now, Belouis Some is having his second wind. Last November, he performed his first show in 30 years. Headlining at 02 Academy Islington London and with a second sold out gig at The Troubadour London earlier this year, Belouis Some is back and better than ever.

“It’s going to be great being on the same bill as Jay Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel and Slim Jim Phantom,” Neville says of the upcoming tour. “They’re both amazing live…so get ready for a fantastic show!”

5 Things You Didn’t Know About Jesse Colin Young

0

Jesse Colin Young’s voice carried the spirit of the ‘60s—hopeful, defiant, and soaked in sunshine. Whether fronting The Youngbloods or as a solo artist, his music radiated warmth and wisdom. His song Get Together became the anthem of a generation, and Darkness, Darkness still echoes through covers and reinterpretations today. But beyond the folk-rock hits and his unmistakable voice, Jesse’s life was filled with fascinating, unexpected twists. Here are five things you might not have known about him.

1. His First Album Was Recorded in Just Four Hours

Long before The Youngbloods, Jesse recorded his debut solo album, The Soul of a City Boy, in a single afternoon. Armed with just his acoustic guitar and raw talent, he laid down the tracks in four hours—a testament to his natural ability and folk purity. It’s the kind of album that feels like it was captured in one take because, well, it almost was.

2. He Had a Need for Speed… In His Name

Jesse Colin Young wasn’t born with that legendary folk-rock moniker. He started out as Perry Miller, but he felt that name didn’t quite fit the music he wanted to make. So, he reinvented himself, blending the names of infamous outlaws Jesse James and Cole Younger with Formula One racing legend Colin Chapman. That’s right—Jesse Colin Young was equal parts renegade and racecar-inspired.

3. He Built a Studio Next to His Home—And It Survived a Wildfire

In the early ‘70s, Jesse built his own recording studio at his home in Inverness, California. It became the birthplace of some of his finest solo work, including Song for Juli. When the devastating Mount Vision Fire tore through his property in 1995, his house was lost—but miraculously, the studio survived. A sanctuary for music, standing strong against the flames.

4. He Was One of the First Musicians to Go Off the Grid

Long before it became trendy, Jesse and his family lived the ultimate back-to-the-land lifestyle. After leaving California, he relocated to a coffee farm in Hawaii, where he spent years growing organic coffee and living in harmony with nature. Music wasn’t his only passion—he cultivated the earth with the same care he put into his songwriting.

5. His Grammy-Nominated Song Wasn’t Even His Own Recording

Jesse’s haunting Darkness, Darkness is one of his most enduring songs, but it was Robert Plant’s 2002 cover that earned a Grammy nomination. Plant’s version, dripping in blues and intensity, introduced a whole new generation to Jesse’s songwriting genius. Even without the award, Jesse’s words had already made their mark on rock history.

Jesse Colin Young gave us songs that transcended their time, filled with an unmistakable warmth and depth. His music captured the optimism of the ‘60s, the introspection of the ‘70s, and the timeless search for peace and meaning. As we say goodbye, his voice—both literal and poetic—lives on, reminding us to get together, love one another, and let the music play on.

Rest easy, Jesse. Your songs will always shine.
