Ruby has also received widespread praise from critics, who have applauded its sound and artistic vision. “Ruby’ is an exhilarating listen that proves Jennie is capable of much more than she’s been given credit for.” -CLASH “… powers her solo debut with versatility and charm, translating the group’s tough-girl sound into a blistering new style,” Pitchfork “a fast-moving good time” – Rolling Stone

The SSK Organization, a 501C3 organization, along with its founder, renowned entertainment mogul Steven Machat and his wife and partner, Debbie Machat, announce the addition of 55 American cities to Buena Vista Orchestra’s (BVO) global tour. This follows a hugely successful US tour last fall, where the Buena Vista Orchestra played 45 dates and sold out 38 venues across the country. VIP presale tickets for the US dates will go on sale on Wednesday, March 19, at 10 a.m. local time. Local presales will be held on March 19 and 20, and Spotify presales launch Thursday, March 20 at 10 a.m. with code BVO2025. Public tickets will be available from Friday, March 21 at 10 a.m. onwards. Led by Jesús “Aguaje” Ramos, a Cuban trombonist, composer, arranger and musical director best known as the original orchestra leader, composer and trombonist of The Buena Vista Social Club, which was brought into focus throughout the world in the critically acclaimed 1999 documentary film “Buena Vista Social Club,” followed up by a second film, ”Buena Vista Social Club: Adios.

As well as appearing in both films, Ramos was the arranger and orchestra leader of BVSC tours. He has also served long stints in world class ensembles Estrellas de Areito and Afro-Cuban Allstars, as well as on the solo albums of Ibrahim Ferrer, Ruben Gonzales and Omara Portuondo. Ramos is joined on the 2025 international tour by an all-star ensemble of ten Cuban musicians, including original Buena Vista Social Club members “Betun” Luis Mariano Valiente Marin (Congas, Bongo) and Fabían Garcia (Bass), who have toured with different touring versions under the moniker Buena Vista Social Club. The Buena Vista Orchestra continues to celebrate the rhythms, melodies, and soul of Cuban music and carries forward the spirit and musical excellence of the legendary Buena Vista Social Club.

With over five decades of experience in the music industry, Machat’s latest venture, the 2025 tour, is an exciting continuation of his legacy in bringing diverse and authentic global sounds to the forefront. He has represented the Electric Light Orchestra, Ozzy Osbourne, Genesis, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Leonard Cohen and Phil Spector, among others. An influential producer, Machat is the author of I Can Hear Music – The Heroes and Villains of the Muses, a book that explores the inner workings of the music world.

“I felt it was important to share this splendid Cuban music with the world,” said Steven Machat, who first met Ramos in 2017. “Cuba is still a forbidden fruit in the eyes of my country and although the Buena Vista Social Club educated a generation to their multi-cultural songs and sound, I thought the time was right to let the new generations experience, applaud and dance to the music.”

The United States tour begins on July 24, 2025, in New York’s Hamptons, and follows with shows in Boulder, Seattle, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Miami, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Austin, Boston Minneapolis, Atlanta, and West Palm Beach, among other major locations. Currently the tour, which began on March 8th, has held sold-out performances in Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, Edmonton, and Calgary, and will perform tonight in a sold-out show in Vancouver. The Orchestra will then move on to Brazil, the UK, Belgium and the Dominican Republic, before beginning concerts in the U.S., followed by performances in the Caribbean, South America, Australia and Japan. The complete list of cities and dates can be found here.

“My dream was to come to the US with the Buena Vista Orchestra to play the music that shaped my life,” said Ramos. “When I met Steven Machat, I said that this dream was somewhere over the rainbow and he told me to let us see that dream together, and we will build the rainbow that will get you there.” The Orchestra is now doing just that and a signature song that Ramos has added to the playlist Is a song the world knows, Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

Produced by the SSK Organization, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting projects that protect and enhance global cultures, Buena Vista Orchestra’s North American tour will cross borders, bringing the music to audiences worldwide. As the official sponsor of the U.S. tour, SSK not only facilitates this international tour but also plays a vital role in preserving the cultural heritage embedded in Buena Vista Orchestra’s music. Music by the Buena Vista Orchestra can be streamed on Spotify.

Big Changes Are Happening For SXSW In 2026

0

or nine days, SXSW 2025 once again brought together the best in tech, film, television, music, and innovation. From legendary keynotes like John Fogerty and Tom Morello to the latest in cutting-edge technology and world-premiere film screenings, the festival delivered everything fans love about SX. But as the dust settles, the biggest news isn’t just what happened—it’s what’s coming next.

Big changes are in store for SXSW 2026, and they mark a bold new era for the festival. With the Austin Convention Center shutting down for three years, SXSW is shifting to a shorter, seven-day format where music, film, and conference events all run simultaneously. What does this mean? More immersive experiences, more time to discover new artists and ideas, and a streamlined event that allows attendees to experience the entire festival from start to finish—a first in SXSW history.

The SXSW 2025 Highlights That Set the Stage for the Future

  • Big Name Keynotes & Panels: From Metallica’s Lars Ulrich chatting with Zane Lowe to a powerhouse Last of Us panel with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, this year’s lineup delivered.
  • Film & TV Festival Firsts: Paul Feig’s Another Simple Favor and Seth Rogen’s The Studio kicked off the festival, while On Swift Horses closed it in cinematic style.
  • Music Festival Evolution: With fewer, more curated showcases, the music scene felt tighter and more intentional—something SXSW plans to expand on in 2026.
  • Tech & Innovation at the Forefront: From NASA’s Artemis II astronauts to the latest in AI and media, SXSW’s tech programming continued to push boundaries.

What’s Changing in 2026?

  • A Seven-Day SXSW: Shorter, but more immersive—with music, film, and the conference happening at the same time.
  • More Nights of Music: Music showcases expand to seven nights instead of six, giving fans even more time to experience new artists.
  • A More Curated Music Festival: Fewer acts, more discovery—SXSW is refining its approach to showcase emerging talent while spreading performances across more venues.
  • More Personalized Experiences: As post-pandemic audiences seek deeper, tailored experiences, SXSW is embracing new ways to bring people together in smaller, more meaningful ways.

The future of SXSW is leaner, smarter, and more connected than ever. As the festival enters this new phase, one thing remains clear: SXSW is still where the world comes to discover what’s next.

David Johansen Recalls How the New York Dolls Accidentally Started a Punk Rock Trend

0

The New York Dolls didn’t just help invent punk rock—they also (accidentally) pioneered one of its messiest traditions. On Late Night with Conan O’Brien in 1994, David Johansen recalled a legendary night in Newcastle where the band went drinking before a show. Their drummer got sick. Then everyone got sick. But the Dolls? They kept playing. And just like that, puking onstage became punk AF.

Derek Smalls Slams ‘This Is Spinal Tap,’ Talks Star-Studded Solo Album

0

Derek Smalls isn’t holding back. On AXS TV, the Spinal Tap bassist took a swing at This Is Spinal Tap, calling it a “hatchet job” that failed to capture the band’s real triumphs — like actually finding the stage. But he’s not just complaining — he’s rocking. His new solo album Smalls Change: Meditations Upon Aging boasts a star-studded lineup featuring Steve Vai, Steve Lukather, Dweezil Zappa, and Tenacious D. Because if you’re going to turn it up to 11, you might as well invite everyone.

The Church Announces The Singles Tour: A Career-Spanning Journey Through Psychedelic Dream Pop Classics

0

Few bands experience the career longevity of THE CHURCH, much less the continued creative fire that keeps sparking year after year. Following two of the best reviewed albums in five decades of releasing music – 2023’s The Hypnogogue and its companion piece, 2024’s Eros Zeta and the Perfumed Guitars, the psychedelic dream pop pioneers are returning to North America for “The Singles,” an extensive tour that revisits their legacy of singles spread over their 37-album catalogue.

Kicking off on July 15th in Phoenix, AZ and circling around the continent including dates in Los Angeles, Vancouver, Chicago, New York, before winding down in Denver, CO on Aug. 16th, the four week tour celebrates their career-spanning oeuvre of tracks including “The Unguarded Moment” (from 1980’s Of Skins and Heart), “Tantalized” (from 1986’s Heyday), “Ripple” (from 1992’s Priest=Aura), “C’est La Vie” (from 1992’s The Hypnogogue), “Metropolis” (from 1990’s Gold Afternoon Fix) and of course “Reptile” and “Under the Milky Way” (from 1988’s international breakthrough album Starfish). Presales begin Wednesday, March 19th with tickets to the general public on March 21st at 10am local time.

Says bassist/vocalist/founder Steve Kilbey: “The Church are very much looking forward to returning to the USA and doing the singles show which we’ve never done before: a career retrospective spanning 45 years of tunes!”

2024 saw the band re-release its first four albums – Of Skins & Heart, The Blurred Crusade, Séance, and Heyday – to a thirsty fanbase, reinvigorating its legacy for a renaissance that kicked off with the back-to-back releases of 2023’s The Hynogogue and 2024’s Eros Zeta and the Perfumed Guitars. The cumulative releases added a whole new audience to their expanding fanbase, resulting in one of their most successful tours to date in their home continent of Australia. Ready to turn the page with new music coming later in 2025 as well as even more re-releases of early albums, The Church are looking ahead into their fifth decade as a band.

Starting out in 1980, The Church have continued to expand their highly cinematic and atmospheric blend of indie rock, shimmering post-punk, icy dreampop and psychedelic post-rock without retreading their steps. Their expansive music career yielded a string of hit songs including “Under the Milky Way,” “Reptile,” “The Unguarded Moment” and “Almost With You” amongst others and their equally stellar live shows have been deemed “spectacular” by MAGNET Magazine, citing their “dreamy psychedelia that will daub your evening with shades of paisley.”

The Church’s epic five-piece line-up is bassist, vocalist and founder Steve Kilbey; with long-time collaborator Tim Powles, drummer and producer across 17 albums since ’94; guitarist Ian Haug, formerly of Australian rock icons Powderfinger, who joined the band in 2013 and Jeffrey Cain (Remy Zero), touring multi-instrumentalist who is now a full-time member of The Church since the departure of Peter Koppes in early 2020. The band have also recruited Ashley Naylor, long-time member of Paul Kelly’s touring band and one of Australia’s finest and most respected guitarists (Even, The Grapes, The Stems).

The Ultimate Online Casino Games Inspired by Music Icons

0

By Mitch Rice

Casino games take inspiration from a vast array of real-world themes, spanning ancient mythology, nature, and even popular entertainment. Narrowing down on entertainment and showbiz, today’s gaming catalog boasts an impressive selection of slot machines and table games influenced by films, music, art, and literature.

However, it is relatively rare to come across casino games specifically centered around iconic music stars, rather than general musical themes or genres. But that’s not to say they are completely non-existent. Some reputable developers have done amazing work curating games inspired by legendary musicians, living and dead.

In this article, we explore some of the finest in this category, helping you find some musical-themed releases for your next casino adventure.

Jimi Hendrix

First on the list is the Jimi Hendrix slot by NetEnt. Inspired by American guitarist, James Marshall “Jimi” Hendrix, the slot brings to life the genius of the musical virtuoso. The slot was released in 2016 and features the conventional five-reel by three-row interface. For the RTP rate, you have a well above-average 96.90% value alongside a low volatility rating.

Some of the most rewarding bonus features are named after important aspects of Hendrix’s life. There’s the Red Guitar Respin, Crosstown Traffic Free Spins and Purple Haze. Jimi Hendrix himself shows up as the wild, substituting for base game symbols.

Guns N’ Roses

Tagged the greatest Rock N’ Roll band according to Casino.com, Guns N’ Roses are perhaps the only active musical group to have a slot named after them. The casino affiliate platform, known for helping players discover the best gambling sites and bonuses, lists the Guns N’ Roses slot as one of the most exciting musical-themed releases with a 750x jackpot stake.

Guns N’ Roses slot is the brainchild of Swedish developer NetEnt. It has a 96.98% RTP and boasts stunning visuals. Expect to see Axl, Slash and others grace the five-reel by three-row slot grid. There’s also a setlist featuring top songs by the band to get you in the groove while you play.

Ozzy Osbourne

Another NetEnt classic, the Ozzy Osbourne slot was released in 2019 and is inspired by the English hard rock Hall of Famer, John Michael “Ozzy” Osbourne. The slot has trappings of the dark underworld that Ozzy Osbourne was once associated with, including bats. Landing winning combinations on this slot sets off Ozzy’s popular track, ‘Bark at the Moon.’

There are also exciting bonus features on offer, including a Bonus Bet option, Re-Spins, and a Symbol Charge Up. If you’re lucky enough, you can walk home with a max win of 2,500x your base bet.

Michael Jackson: King of Pop

Probably the most famous singer to ever walk on planet Earth, it’s no surprise that Michael Jackson has a slot drawing inspiration from his illustrious career. He’s not dubbed the “King of Pop” for no reason.

Michael Jackson holds the record for the highest number of best-selling albums and is known as the “most successful entertainment of all time” by Guinness World Records. The Michael Jackson: King of Pop was released by Bally Technologies and has five reels with 25 paylines. You can experience top hits while playing, including Smooth Criminal, Billie Jean and Beat It.

Elvis the King Lives

Elvis Presley is another musical legend to have not one, but multiple slots inspired by him. The Elvis the King Lives slot was released by WMS Gaming. Unlike many other slots that feature a five-reel layout, this game has a specially designed 11 reels and 80 paylines.

You can win a jackpot of up to 5,000x your base bet. There’s also a unique Jukebox feature which rewards you with cash and four songs from Elvis Presley, namely Big Hunk O’ Love, Hound Dog, Teddy Bear and Blue Suede Shoes.

Honorable Mention

There are other slots that are inspired by musical icons, some of whom have already been explored above. Below are these slots worthy of an honorable mention:

  • Motörhead by NetEnt
  • Michael Jackson II – Wanna Be Startin Somethin by Bally Technologies
  • Elvis Little More Action by IGT

Final Thoughts

In all, online casinos inspired by musicians offer a blend of entertainment and gaming in one fell swoop. Whether featuring pop sensations or legendary rock bands, these games are a perfect way to pay tribute to musical greats while also offering players an added layer of excitement. Hopefully, the world sees more innovative casino games that celebrate the achievement of artists, active or retired.

How to Make Homecoming Mums

0

By Mitch Rice

Homecoming mums are a great part of homecoming if you’re from Texas, some parts of Oklahoma, or even a few other surrounding states. These big and powerful flowers are made to draw attention to you, and when they’re done right, show just how much school spirit you have to offer. While you can buy homecoming mums from the store, where’s the fun in that?

If you’re curious about going the DIY route or need some helpful ideas, this company is here to help. Read on to learn how to make homecoming mums.

What Is a Homecoming Mum?

A homecoming mum is a chrysanthemum that’s surrounded by ribbons, fabrics, bells, and other materials. They’re meant to be worn during homecoming events like Spirit Week, the pep rally, and sometimes at the sporting event. In fact, sometimes schools in Texas and Oklahoma will want girls to wear homecoming mums over their homecoming dresses (like these) at the dance.

While mums for homecoming are often fancy and fun, students should be creative with them. Sure, you can find some at local stores, but why not make one yourself?

Supplies You Need to Make a Homecoming Mum

Before we dive into how you can make a homecoming mum, we first have to cover the supplies you’ll need to use. These supplies vary based on the specific mum you plan on making, so use them as a loose guide.

Your average homecoming mum kit should include things like:

  • A chrysanthemum flower
  • Ribbons
  • Bells
  • Pipe cleaners to attach things to the flower
  • A class star
  • Glitter and sparkles
  • Streamers
  • Stickers
  • A centerpiece like a bear
  • Trinkets and charms
  • Neck straps
  • Glue
  • Hot glue gun, stapler, and other adhesives

Depending on the type of homecoming mum you want to make, the supplies you’ll need will vary.

How Much Does it Cost to Make a Homecoming Mum?

A homecoming mum can cost as little as $50 to make. However, more expensive mums will cost upwards of $500 if you want to have it done professionally. Plus, some of the materials may be expensive, and if you want to add a lot of layers to your mum, that will drive the cost up.

How to Make a Homecoming Mum

Making a homecoming mum on your own isn’t that challenging, but you will have to spend a good chunk of time on it, especially if you want it to come out well. Fortunately, we can walk you through the entire process from start to finish. The steps below serve as a rough outline for how to make a homecoming mum.

1. Make the Backer Board

First and foremost, you need to make the backer board, which is what holds the mum in place. We recommend cutting out the backer board using materials like cardboard or foam and make sure the diameter of the circle you cut is around 6-8 inches.

2. Attach the Chrysanthemum

Next, it’s time to attach the flower. You’ll want to add the chrysanthemum to the backer board with hot glue, staples, and pipe cleaners. It’s also possible to use multiple backer boards for a more secure fit, so you have plenty of options there.

3. Attach the Ribbons

Once you have the flower attached, you can start to add the ribbons. You’ll want to make sure the ribbons are around two to three feet in length, and we recommend having them match school colors. It’s also a good idea to make your cuts fancy with things like v-cuts.

4. Add Letters and the Name of Your School

Since a homecoming mum is for, well, homecoming, it’s a good idea to add letters and the name of your school. We recommend adding things like your date’s name, your name, and even the name of your school as well. For the letters, you can use stickers or other materials.

5. Decorate Your Homecoming Mum

The last step is to decorate your homecoming mum with trinkets. Many people choose bells, but feathers, glitter, sparkles, and other accessories can be added to the mum. You can also customize the color to reflect your school’s color and identity.

Make the Perfect Homecoming Mum Today!

Homecoming is a big event that tends to last about a week, so your homecoming mum should be something you’re proud of. We recommend spending some time on this one and using a combination of real flowers, ribbons, and other decorations to make your homecoming mum stand out from the rest.

If you ever need any help, you can always come back to the steps we covered in this article. They serve as a rough guideline for what your mum should look like.

Guster & The Mountain Goats Announce Summer Tour + Barenaked Ladies Dates for Last Summer on Earth

0

Guster and The Mountain Goats will embark on an 8-date tour beginning July 27 in Chautauqua, NY and will wrap up on August 3 in Hampton Bays, NY. Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 21 at 12 pm local time. More information and up-to-date news is available at guster.com.

Ahead of the newly announced tour with The Mountain Goats, Guster will join Barenaked Ladies for the June leg of their annual “Last Summer on Earth” tour, beginning June 3 in Atlanta through June 28 in Bend, OR.

Guster’s ninth studio album and first new LP in more than five years, Ooh La La marks a bold departure for the venerable band with a lush and acclaimed expansive sound rich in acoustic guitars and graceful piano work. Mainly produced by Josh Kaufman (The National, The Hold Steady) at Woodstock, NY’s Isokon Studio, with additional production from Ron Aniello (Bruce Springsteen, Bryce Dessner) and Rich Costey (Death Cab for Cutie, Of Monsters and Men), songs like the shimmering first single, “Keep Going” radiate an emotional undercurrent of undeniable warmth, telegraphing an irrepressible joy in the face of turmoil and unrest.

Ooh La La was met by applause and praise from such outlets as Goldmine, which wrote, “This is an album with grandeur. This is what can be built when bands allow themselves to be guided to a conclusion by a collaborator who helps them commit to a vision and vibe. The capacity to surrender to this kind of process has kept Guster relevant and has allowed them to broaden their base and build something most bands never get close to.” In addition, Guster celebrated the album with a wide-ranging appearance on CBS Saturday Morning that included an in-depth conversation about their 30-year career as well as live performances of three songs from Ooh La La including “Keep Going,” “Witness Tree,” and “Black Balloon.”
