Ryan Bingham Announces The All Night Long Tour with The Texas Gentlemen, Kicking Off May 27

0

Oscar and Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and Yellowstone star Ryan Bingham is hitting the road this summer with The Texas Gentlemen for the long-awaited The All Night Long Tour.

Bingham’s first full tour since 2019, the 17-date headline run will kick off May 27 at 713 Music Hall in Houston, TX, making stops in New Orleans, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Reno, Santa Barbara, and more before wrapping up on June 20 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, CA. The run also features a highly anticipated return to the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre on June 3, following Bingham’s sold-out 2024 performance that led to the release of Live at Red Rocks- the dynamic 16-song live recording he released this past November.

Presented by Bingham’s Bourbon, The All Night Long Tour will offer fans a one-of-a-kind concert experience, marking the first time Bingham will headline a tour with no opener. Ryan Bingham & The Texas Gentlemen will take the stage for two electrifying sets – separated by an intermission – delivering an extended, immersive evening of music that embodies Bingham’s signature style. At select venues, the intermission will be enhanced with carefully curated moments, including a Bingham’s Bourbon pop-up lounge, exclusive merchandise, and special surprises, creating a thoughtfully crafted atmosphere that extends beyond the music.

Before launching The All Night Long Tour, Bingham will take the stage at the Two Step Inn Festival on April 6 in Georgetown, TX. He also recently announced that he’ll join Zach Bryan and John Mayer for a sold-out show at Michigan Stadium on September 27-the largest stadium in the United States-for a landmark night of music in Ann Arbor, MI.

Beyond the stage, Bingham has remained a familiar presence on screen, reprising his role as “Walker”-a character he has portrayed for five seasons-in the second half of Yellowstone Season 5, which culminated in a record-breaking season finale this past December. The episode drew 11.4 million same-day viewers, climbing to 13.1 million within three days, making it the most-watched season since the show’s debut.

Ahead of the finale, Bingham surprised fans with his latest single “A Song for the Stone,” his first original track written for the series. Performed in character during a campfire scene in an earlier episode, the haunting ballad served as a poignant tribute to Yellowstone’s legacy, deeply resonating with audiences as the show wrapped its biggest season yet.

Known for his raw and emotive music, evocative storytelling, and trademark weather-beaten vocals, Bingham has risen over the years to become one of the most distinctive and authentic voices of his generation. His music defies classification, with folk, blues, country, and rock ‘n roll all being part of the recipe. It’s authentic, powerful, and the songs are rooted in real life – in survival and sacrifice and, yes, sometimes just having a damn good time.

Since his debut, Bingham has released six full-length studio albums-Mescalito (2007), Roadhouse Sun (2009), Junky Star (2010), Tomorrowland (2012), Fear and Saturday Night (2015), and American Love Song (2019)-along with two live albums and the 2023 EP Watch Out For The Wolf. His career has been defined by an uncompromising independent spirit, earning him top honors including a Grammy, Oscar, Golden Globe, and Critic’s Choice Award, as well as the Americana Music Association’s ‘Artist of the Year.’

Beyond music, the multi-hyphenate artist has extended his creative reach into acting, with Bingham taking on notable roles in the hit TV series Yellowstone and films like Hostiles and Crazy Heart. Over the years, he has also built an accomplished portfolio of ventures, including The Bingham Recording Co., his independent label, which he has helmed for over a decade, and The Great Western, an annual two-day music festival and rodeo event held each fall in Fort Worth, Texas.

Most recently, after several years in the making, Bingham entered the spirits industry with the launch of Bingham Spirits. In 2024, the company debuted its first product, Bingham’s Bourbon-a handcrafted Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Currently available in Texas, Oklahoma, Nevada, and Florida, the brand is set for further expansion in 2025.

Rhiannon Giddens and Justin Robinson Announce What Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow, Out April 18

0

Rhiannon Giddens and Justin Robinson have unveiled “Marching Jaybird” from their forthcoming album of North Carolina fiddle and banjo music What Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow (April 18 / Nonesuch Records). As part of their long-awaited reunion on this album, “Marching Jaybird” finds the duo revisiting a recording by influential guitarist and singer Etta Baker, one of their musical heroes and a key inspiration for making this new album.

The instrumental track, with Giddens and Robinson both on banjo, was recorded at Baker’s Morganton, NC home. The two longtime friends and collaborators experienced an extraordinary moment at Baker’s home while recording when her son, Edgar Baker, offhandedly mentioned that his mother had recorded “Carolina Breakdown” in her yard, and that a Carolina wren ended up on the recording. Robinson and Giddens were delighted to hear him tell this story, as that very recording had been their inspiration to record What Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow in the way they did — preserving place in music. The duo recorded Baker’s version of “Marching Jaybird” in the living room, as shown in the video, with Baker’s son listening.

“This was a magical moment for Justin and me,” Giddens says. “Walking into Etta Baker’s house, which is frozen in time, looking just like it did when she was alive, very much reminded us of women in our families; sitting in her living room and recording this piece we learned from her playing, was pretty profound.”

Today Giddens also announced a number of new dates on her Rhiannon Giddens & The Old-Time Revue tour–featuring Robinson and four other string musicians, including multi-instrumentalist Dirk Powell. On June 18 they will headline the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, joined by special guests Our Native Daughters– in their first performance since 2022–as well as Steve Martin, Ed Helms, and more. Additional shows in July have been added to the itinerary as well; see below for the full list.

Giddens also shared more details about Biscuits & Banjos –– revealing the remaining artist performances and panel lineup –– her first festival, which takes place April 25-27 in downtown Durham, NC. Curated by Giddens, Biscuits & Banjos highlights the deep roots and enduring legacy of Black music, art, and culture while fostering community and storytelling. The sold-out festival will feature a much-anticipated Carolina Chocolate Drops reunion, their first performance together in more than a decade. The newly unveiled additions include Amythyst Kiah, Angela Wellman, Bittersweet Brass Band, Buffalo Nichols, Charly Lowry, Dasan Ahanu, Gabrielle and Danielle Davenport, Hannah Mayree, Joseph Johnson, Dr. Lalenja Harrington, Michael Twitty, Niwel Tsumbu, Piedmont Blues Preservation Society, Shana Tucker, Shorlette Ammons, Sùle Greg Wilson, Toni Tipton-Martin, Dr. Tressie McMillan Cottom, Yasmin Williams, and more.

The panels include:
Black Voices in Country Music: A Conversation with Rhiannon Giddens, Rissi Palmer, and Alice Randall
Let the Church Say Amen!: Ritual, Storytelling, and the Oral Tradition with Dasan Ahanu and Dr. Lalenja Harrington
Intentional Community: Celebrating Black Voices in Festivals and Live Events with Holly G, Brandi Waller-Pace, Rissi Palmer, and Dr. Dena Ross Jennings
The Art of the Biscuit A Conversation with Michael Twitty and Toni Tipton-Martin, supported by Biscuitville

Biscuits & Banjos is a non-profit, community responsive festival. Funding for Biscuits & Banjos is made possible in part by the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, the National Endowment for the Arts, North Carolina Humanities, the Danielle Rose Paikin Foundation, the Harper House Music Foundation, the Mary Duke Biddle Foundation, Warner Music Group & Blavatnik Family Foundation Social Justice Fund (a sponsored project of Moore Impact), Duke Arts, Duke Community Affairs, 21c Museum Hotel, Biscuitville, the City of Durham, Durham County, Discover Durham, North Carolina Arts Council, Durham Arts Council, American Tobacco Campus, Blue Ridge Music Center, Sugarlands Distilling Company, Bull City Burger and Brewery, Proximity Brewing Company and other generous individual donors, sponsors, civic, and community partners. On the state’s partnership, Secretary Reid Wilson said, “The N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources is excited to help sponsor Rhiannon Giddens’ new Biscuits & Banjos festival in 2025. The festival will give North Carolinians an opportunity to immerse themselves in our state’s vibrant music and arts, rich history, and diverse culture. Music provides common ground for all of us, and we’re proud to be a part of this innovative event.”

Produced by Giddens and Joseph “joebass” DeJarnette, What Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow finds Giddens and Robinson playing eighteen of their favorite North Carolina tunes: a mix of instrumentals and tunes with words. Many were learned from their late mentor, the legendary North Carolina Piedmont musician Joe Thompson, one of the last musicians of his era and his community to carry on the southern Black string band tradition. Giddens and Robinson also recorded outdoors at Thompson’s Mebane, NC home, as well as the former plantation Mill Prong. They were accompanied by the sounds of nature, including two different broods of cicadas, which had not emerged simultaneously since 1803, creating a true once-in-a-lifetime soundscape.

“With the assaults on reality going on in the world today, we wanted to offer another kind of record, like walking back onto a gravel or dirt road while a stampede goes the other way,” Giddens says. “With the cicada choir, this record could’ve only happened at a certain time in the last 120 years. We doubled down on place, time, realness, and old-fashioned front porch music. It’s a reminder that another way exists, with music made for your community’s enjoyment and for dancing–not solely for commercial purposes.”

Elton John and Brandi Carlile Release New Song “Swing For The Fences”

0

Today, Elton John and Brandi Carlile release their brand new song Swing For The Fences. Listen here. This life-affirming, joyous track is the latest offering from Elton and Brandi’s recently announced collaborative studio album Who Believes In Angels?, set for release on April 4th. Pre-order here.

Swing For The Fences is both a euphoric slice of rock ‘n’ roll, and a defiant and proud anthem. Speaking on the track, Brandi says: “Swing For The Fences’ was a little gem I took into the studio with me: I’m a gay woman, Elton’s a gay man and we both have families, and our dreams have come true. I was thinking, wouldn’t it be cool to write an anthem for young gay kids out there that calls them into a bigger, more elegant, more fabulous life. Just like ‘go, go! don’t let anything hold you back!’.”

Elton adds: “When we recorded ‘Swing For The Fences’, it was the moment that crystallised where the album was going. It was hard to get to that point, but we knew we had to rise to the occasion and we all just felt this massive sense of joy and euphoria. After our initial difficulties, all the uncertainties started to dissipate when this song came together. It just sounded great.”

The concept for Who Believes In Angels? was devised by close friends and regular collaborators Elton John, eleven time GRAMMY winning US superstar Brandi Carlile and multiple GRAMMY Award winning producer and songwriter Andrew Watt. They set out to create a genuinely collaborative studio album between Elton and Brandi. The album would mix Elton-led songs and Brandi-led songs, with long term collaborator Bernie Taupin and Brandi both contributing lyrics, and producer and co-writer Andrew Watt acting as the producer, mediator and creative conduit. Entering Los Angeles’ Sunset Sound Studios in October 2023 with a completely blank slate, they pushed each other out of their comfort zones to write and record an album completely from scratch in just 20 days. They would be backed by a world class band of musicians comprising of Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Pino Palladino (Nine Inch Nails, Gary Numan and David Gilmour) and Josh Klinghoffer (Pearl Jam, Beck).

Watch a short film about the process of making Who Believes In Angels? here. This is the first time that Elton has allowed cameras to film his writing and recording sessions. Static cameras positioned around the studio captured thousands of hours of raw footage, and ultimately documented the entire creative process – breakdowns, breakthroughs, tears, torn up lyric sheets and all. The candid footage offers fans an unprecedented, searingly honest insight into the emotionally turbulent creative process for Elton, Brandi and the rest of the team.

The results of this creative friction are stunning, and the kaleidoscopic scope of Who Believes In Angels? draws comparisons with some of Elton’s very finest works. Ballads co-exist with raw rock and roll, pop songs and country-hued Americana rub shoulders with synth-heavy psychedelia. It’s an album as unexpected as it is triumphant. Elton sounds utterly revitalized. Brandi sounds like a singer-songwriter at the absolute top of her game, her voice melding with Elton’s like a hand in a glove. The resulting songs somehow manage to be unequivocally the work of Elton John and Brandi Carlile, while sounding unlike any album either have made before.

Elton and Brandi will be in the UK for ‘An Evening With Elton John & Brandi Carlile’ at The London Palladium on Wednesday 26th March 2025. This sold-out one night only event will see them grace the stage of one of London’s most iconic venues for a unique evening of performance and storytelling.

Who Believes In Angels? was announced to huge excitement across the world in February with the eponymous single ‘Who Believes In Angels?’ garnering widespread acclaim. Listen here and watch the video here. The album also features the 2025 Oscar nominated song ‘Never Too Late’, created especially for the Disney+ documentary of the same name and unveiled last year to widespread critical acclaim. Listen here. A beautiful, reflective and ultimately uplifting story of finding happiness and redemption in love and family, ‘Never Too Late’ is the truly fitting finale to the documentary that plays out over the credits of the documentary of the same name. The documentary follows Elton as he looks back on his life and the astonishing early days of his 50-year career in an emotionally charged, intimate and inspiring full-circle journey. Directed by R.J. Cutler and David Furnish the documentary is available to watch on Disney+ now.

Eugene Hütz Unveils ‘NYContinuity Vol.1,’ A Cross-Generational NYC Punk Tribute, Out April 4

Ukrainian frontman Eugene Hütz of the international punk band Gogol Bordello has announced NYContinuity Vol.1: New New York Does Old New York – a new cross-generational compilation album out April 4 on his Casa Gogol Records. The first single out today is a mesmerizing cover of The Velvet Underground’s “All Tomorrow’s Parties” by Grace Bergere ft. Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth.

The dialogue continues between NYC’s new wave of bands and their heroes, with Puzzled Panther’s cover of Sonic Youth’s “Dirty Boots” (produced by Sonic Youth’s Steve Shelley and drums by Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Brian Chase), Pons’ manic tribute to Suicide, Mary Shelley’s Bushwick rooftop version of Talking Heads’ “The Great Curve” (produced by David Byrne’s American Utopia music director Mauro Refosco) and more.

Original tracks are also featured, including a new one from Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and Eugene Hütz, a Grace Bergere remix by Mr. Pharmacist a.k.a. Gregg Foreman (Alan Vega and Cat Power), and Puzzled Panther’s “Fractured,” from their upcoming EP STING OF IODINE, channeling all their favorite NYC dance punk influences while referencing Television and “rocking you like Lydia in retrograde.”

The project will culminate with a show at Bowery Ballroom on April 5 with some of these artists, plus Twowayradio and special guest Vera Farmiga and her band The Yagas – tickets here.

Gogol Bordello also just announced a European tour here, with support from “one of the most exciting bands in the world right now,” English punk duo Bob Vylan. “Enraged anew by world atrocities, Gogol Bordello is coming your way with new material developed in collaboration with the king of post-punk groove Nick Launay (Nick Cave, Amyl and the Sniffers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Refused). Feels like the salvaging of a massive bell,” says Hütz.

The album is part of Casa Gogol’s mission to preserve, perpetuate and accelerate NYC’s sonic culture – fostering generational cross-pollination, and uniting punk and hardcore artists to sustain the genre’s legacy of identity and belonging.

“Arriving in NYC in 1997, I no longer felt like a marginal freakaholic,” explains Eugene Hütz. “The city took me under its wing, picked me up, and pinned me straight into the lineage where I belonged. NYContinuity is dedicated to preserving and perpetuating NYC’s unique ability to define the blueprint the world will inevitably copy for the next 15–20 years.”

“Music comes from a generational cross pollination. The greatest thing about punk rock was that it had an unprecedented mix of people of all backgrounds and all ages striking new sparks out of each other.”
