Unique Star Wars Themed Toys For Collectors And Fans

0

By Mitch Rice

Be honest – how many times have you wandered into a toy aisle, spotted Star Wars on the shelves, and felt… nothing? It’s like meeting someone who says they like Star Wars, but can’t name which planet the Rebel base moved to after Yavin. You smile politely but internally? You check out.

What most of those mass-produced toys offer is quantity, not craft. Lightweight (under 150 grams) plastics, soft sculpts, paint apps that look like someone rushed them out during a coffee break. Collectors call them shelf-warmers for a reason. There they sit – rows of Black Series figures on clearance racks, waiting to be pitied.

Why? Because these toys aren’t for you. They’re for casual parents on a Target run, not for someone who remembers freezing their Kenner Tauntaun in the actual snow during winter of ’89.

Now, contrast that with holding a Hot Toys MMS517 Luke Skywalker (Bespin Ver.). The stitching on the fatigues, the subtle scuff on the boots, the saber that doesn’t look like a plastic glow stick – you don’t just see Luke. You feel him standing there, on the edge of the carbon freezing chamber.

Want to know why it hits different? Because you’re not buying plastic. You’re buying the moment when you were seven and swore you’d build a homemade lightsaber out of a broomstick and duct tape. Luckily there are now great company that make duel ready lightsabers that feel and sound just like the real thing – we recommend Galaxy Sabers.

Understanding the production intent of each line helps you steer away from toy aisles and towards legacy-worthy finds.

Discover Hidden Gems That Most Fans Miss – And Why They’re So Rare

Quick gut check: Have you ever scrolled eBay for an hour, only to find the same 5 Black Series Mandos and a million Funko Pops?

(Hint: If everyone has it, it’s probably not worth fighting over.)

The true grails? They hide in plain sight:

  • The SDCC 2016 Black Series Kylo Ren Centerpiece (only 3,000 units made)
  • The Regal Robot Life-Size Tauntaun Bust – limited to 150, sculpted by artists who literally worked on The Mandalorian set
  • Tokyo-only releases like the Medicom Sofubi Darth Vader – standing proudly at 300mm, soft vinyl never looked so mean

Why are they so rare? Because Lucasfilm licensing is tighter than the Death Star trash compactor. Production numbers are often capped at just 1-5% of the quantities you see in big-box retail. These aren’t weekend releases – they’re practically sliced portions of the galaxy, handed only to those paying attention.

Remember the Hot Toys Shadow Trooper (TMS015)? It wasn’t even marketed heavily. Yet, those who whispered on the right forums or checked obscure Hong Kong distributors bagged it for $230. By the time mainstream collectors woke up? $800, easy.

TIP: Get tight with independent retailers who specialize in Star Wars – not Marvel, not general pop culture – just Star Wars. Think of them like Dex’s Diner, the place where the best stuff isn’t on the menu.

Once you understand how Star Wars licensing and boutique manufacturing work, you’ll realize most fans are missing half the market entirely.

Authenticity Check: How To Instantly Identify If A Collectible Is Truly Special

Ever stare at a listing and think, is this legit, or is someone selling me a bootleg from Mos Espa’s black market?

Truth is, fakes are getting good. But collectors with a sharp eye? They still win.

Checklist for surviving the galactic counterfeit trade:

  • Certificates of Authenticity – real ones shimmer with holographic seals (usually Level 3 tamper-proof), embossed logos, or watermarks.
  • Serial Numbers – no serial, no sale. Sideshow’s Premium Format figures, for example, are individually numbered under the base (e.g., 1427/5000).
  • Material Inspection – if it feels like a Happy Meal toy, walk away. Hot Toys, for example, layers 4 stages of airbrushed weathering on armor. The fakes? One lazy spray.

Story time: I was once handed a Gentle Giant Jumbo Kenner Chewbacca that, at first glance, seemed real. But something was off – the bandolier paint? Too bright, about 15% more saturated than documented runs. A quick check on Rebelscum’s cardback gallery sealed it: a reproduction, cleverly aged.

Here’s the pro move: Get nerdy about factory code stamps. Vintage Kenner? You’ll spot “HK” (Hong Kong) or “GMFGI 1977” molded into the legs. Bootlegs often skip this entirely, or worse, fake it with sloppy fonts.

Think of it like spotting a lightsaber in a crowd – if you know what you’re looking for, you’ll never mistake a training saber for the real thing.

Mastering authentication isn’t just about avoiding fakes – it’s about gaining the kind of expertise that earns nods from other serious collectors.

Why Certain Pieces Carry More Nostalgia Than Others – Even If They Aren’t The Most Expensive

Question: Have you ever held a toy and been hit – not by its rarity – but by the ghost of Christmas past?

That’s nostalgia doing its job. In collecting, price and value don’t always align. In fact, some of the most prized pieces? Dirt cheap, technically.

That 1984 Ewok Village Playset you built with your cousin during summer vacation? It wasn’t just plastic trees. It was your first engineering project – balancing Rebel troops across plastic drawbridges that defied physics. Retail back then? $29.99. Today? A solid $500 if boxed, but worth far more if it brings you back to building Endor battles on shag carpet.

Or take the Power of the Force Yak Face. Ever seen a room go quiet at a toy fair when someone opens a tackle box full of carded POTF figures? I did. A guy pulled out a slightly yellowed Yak Face (AFA 75), and grown adults visibly gasped – not because it’s “expensive” (though $600+ isn’t chump change), but because we all remembered flipping through the Kenner catalog and dreaming.

What actually holds value?

  • Original LEGO sets like the 7190 Millennium Falcon with only 663 pieces (compared to today’s 7,541).
  • “Blue Snaggletooth” – a Sears-exclusive factory error that, despite being a goof, is now a crown jewel worth 10x the corrected version.
  • Pre-special edition items, untouched by Lucasfilm’s 1997 CGI enthusiasm.

Mini pro tip: Keep a collector’s logbook. Not just price or condition, but why it matters to you. Over time, you’ll have something better than an insurance list – you’ll have a story.

True value lives at the intersection of nostalgia and scarcity – not on a price sticker.

Next: Tapping Into Modern Releases That Still Capture The Magic

Modern-Day Releases That Actually Deserve A Spot In Your Collection

Here’s a hot take: not all modern Star Wars merch is junk. In fact, some of it could wipe the floor with vintage if you know where to look.

Modern pieces worth your shelf space:

  • Hot Toys DX17 Darth Maul with Bloodfin Speeder – the LED saber alone makes you want to duel the air. It includes rolling eyeballs, a metal chain-link belt, and over 30 articulation points. Retail: $345.
  • Regal Robot’s Mythosaur Skull – towering at 17.5 inches, this isn’t just a resin prop. It’s the kind of wall piece that makes even non-collectors say, “Is that from Boba Fett’s armor?” Limited to 250.
  • LEGO UCS Razor Crest – over 6,187 pieces, measuring 28 inches long, with an interior that’s basically a diorama. Plus, it secretly fixes all the inaccuracies the Hasbro HasLab version had.
  • Hasbro’s Vintage Collection VC0001 – yes, 3.75-inch scale, but with today’s 14+ articulation points and photoreal face printing? These aren’t retro – they’re time machines.

When I assembled the UCS Millennium Falcon (the 75192, the monster with 7,541 pieces), I realized LEGO added design commentary explaining why battle damage was placed where it was. That’s not just a kit; that’s storytelling in plastic form. It took me and two friends 12 weeks to finish – longer than the actual Death Star construction (well, almost).

Collector hint: Modern releases often have shorter production windows. Some Hot Toys figures are up for preorder for only 60 days before vanishing into aftermarket oblivion.

When you know which modern pieces are made by fans, not just factories, you stop settling for mediocrity.

Next: Where To Actually Find These Rare Treasures Without Paying Scalper Prices

Where (and How) To Secure Rare Star Wars Collectibles Without Paying Scalper Prices

Let’s kill the myth: you don’t need Jabba’s wallet to score incredible Star Wars pieces. What you need is networking and timing, not blind luck.

Here’s how pros play:

  • Star Wars Celebration is the collectors’ version of the Jedi Temple archives. From LEGO Lars Family Homestead Kitchen (5,000-unit exclusive) to Hot Toys early reveals – this is where deals happen before they hit eBay.
  • Forums like Rebelscum and TheRPF? Think of them as the Mos Eisley Cantina, but without the bounty hunters (mostly).
  • Direct boutiques – Sideshow, Regal Robot, eFx – often quietly open “priority preorder” windows to newsletter subscribers. Want early access? Be the fan who reads the emails, not just clicks unsubscribe.

Case in point: I helped a friend grab the Mythos Obi-Wan (Sideshow, 2013) within its 72-hour preorder window. By Christmas? The price had doubled. Not because he was lucky, but because he was ready.

Advanced move: Build a local collector circle. Many of the best trades, estate sale tips, or forgotten toy store finds don’t even make it online. They’re passed along at coffee shops and swap meets like Jedi holocrons.

The most passionate collectors aren’t the richest – they’re the most prepared.

Tucker Wetmore Announces Debut Album What Not To, Out April 25, and Drops New Single “3,2,1”

0

Cementing his place as one of country music’s most sought after new stars, Tucker Wetmore announces his debut album What Not To, set to release on Friday, April 25. Just days after revealing his Ryman Auditorium headline debut for May 21, Wetmore took to the Ryman stage during Universal Music Group Nashville’s Country Radio Seminar showcase to unveil the plans for his highly-anticipated debut album. Capturing the highs, lows and lessons learned in Wetmore’s 25 years, What Not To channels these hard-won lessons over a 19 song collection that is poised to resonate.

Produced by Chris LaCorte, What Not To is rich in interconnected themes, “like red yarn connecting a bunch of pins on a wall,” Wetmore says. But all of the album is informed by the message of its title track, which Wetmore wrote with his best friend Jacob Hackworth, LaCorte and Nashville powerhouses Chase McGill and Jameson Rogers. A deeply personal song to Wetmore,  which he gave a soul-stirring piano performance from the Ryman stage — “What Not To” is about struggle, compassion and salvation. “Momma said you don’t pray no more/breaks my heart, so I do it for you,” Wetmore sings in the title track.

Bringing fans deeper into the excitement of What Not To, Wetmore drops “3,2,1,” available everywhere now. The song will also serve as his lead single at Country radio, going for adds on March 10 and follows Wetmore’s recent No. 1 debut “Wind Up Missin’ You.” Steeped in hook-driven melodies and clever turns of phrase, the infectious track written by Josh Miller, Summer Overstreet and Jordan Reynolds tells the story of regret and missed chances: “three words, two late, damn girl you’re the one that got away.” Watch the lyric video here.

Wetmore has spent the last year in overdrive, skyrocketing from a budding star to one of the genre’s most in-demand new acts. His RIAA PLATINUM-certified No.1 hit single “Wind Up Missin’ You” dominated the charts and earned him an iHeartRadio Music Awards nomination for Best New Country Artist and was just tapped as an Opry NextStage Artist.

He recently made his national television debut on NBC’s TODAY with Jenna & Friends (WATCH), performed at Luke Bryan’s CRASH MY PLAYA in Riviera Cancun, Mexico and is set to take on Country 2 Country (C2C) in March. His trip across the pond is bolstered by dates from his extended WAVES ON A SUNSET TOUR 2025, including a sold-out stop at London’s Electric Ballroom. He will also join Thomas Rhett’s BETTER IN BOOTS TOUR 2025 as direct support across 33 dates this summer.

Just days away from the one year anniversary of his head-turning debut, Wetmore has proven to be unstoppable, fueled by his back-to-back Billboard Hot 100 hits “Wine Into Whiskey” and “Wind Up Missin’ You.” After releasing his debut EP Waves on a Sunset in October, his catalog has amassed him more than 780 million total global streams to date and has earned spots on coveted Artist to Watch lists from Spotify, Billboard, VEVO, MusicRow and many more.

Having notched back-to-back spots on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart with his RIAA PLATINUM-certified debut singles “Wine Into Whiskey” and “Wind Up Missin’ You” and surpassing over 780 million streams in less than a year, Washington-born singer-songwriter Tucker Wetmore is well on the way to becoming a certified breakout country star. Wetmore signed a major-label record deal last summer with UMG Nashville in partnership with Back Blocks Music, had two songs featured on the star-studded Twisters soundtrack (“Already Had It” and “Steal My Thunder” (with Conner Smith)), made his Grand Ole Opry debut and delivered his first EP, Waves on a Sunset. He brought his music directly to fans on tour with Kameron Marlowe and Luke Bryan before selling out his first-ever headlining tour WAVES ON A SUNSET TOUR 2024. Now, in 2025, the skyrocketing talent will extend his headlining efforts with dates in the UK, US and Europe before joining Thomas Rhett’s BETTER IN BOOTS TOUR 2025 as direct supportWetmore will continue releasing new music, with songs that reflect his cross-genre musical upbringing, embracing all manners of country, reggae, rock and hip-hop, albeit anchored by classic country storytelling. Wetmore enters 2025 as One to Watch by Billboard, MusicRow, VEVO, Spotify, the Grand Ole Opry and more, with his debut single “Wind Up Missin’ You” already earning him his first No.1 on the Mediabase Country chart.

8 Reasons to Buy NVIDIA Stock in Canada in 2025

0

By Mitch Rice

In the fast-paced world of technology and artificial intelligence, NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA) remains a dominant force, driving innovation in AI, gaming, data centers, and autonomous vehicles. As we move through 2025, many Canadian investors are looking at NVIDIA as a top stock pick. With its strong financial performance, leadership in AI, and growing demand for its products, there are several compelling reasons to consider adding NVIDIA stock to your portfolio. Let’s explore why NVIDIA is a must-buy stock for Canadians this year.

1. AI Dominance and Expanding Market Opportunities

Artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept—it’s here, and NVIDIA is leading the charge. The company’s AI chips are powering everything from ChatGPT-style chatbots to self-driving cars. In 2025, demand for AI-related hardware and software continues to surge, and NVIDIA remains at the forefront.

With tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon investing billions in AI, NVIDIA benefits as its graphics processing units (GPUs) are essential for training and running AI models. The company’s latest AI chips, like the H100 and B100, are widely used in AI data centers, cementing NVIDIA’s status as an industry leader. For Canadian investors looking to tap into the AI boom, NVIDIA presents a lucrative opportunity.

2. Strong Financial Performance

NVIDIA has consistently delivered impressive financial results. The company’s revenue and earnings have seen exponential growth, largely fueled by AI, cloud computing, and gaming. In 2024, NVIDIA’s revenue soared past $60 billion, and 2025 projections indicate even stronger performance.

With a solid balance sheet, strong cash flow, and a history of beating Wall Street expectations, NVIDIA offers stability in an often volatile tech sector. For investors in Canada seeking high-growth stocks with robust financials, NVIDIA remains a compelling option.

3. A Key Player in Gaming and Cloud Computing

While AI is driving much of NVIDIA’s recent success, the company’s foundation in gaming remains strong. NVIDIA’s GeForce GPUs continue to be the gold standard for gamers worldwide, powering everything from casual gaming to competitive eSports.

Additionally, the rise of cloud gaming services like NVIDIA GeForce Now has opened new revenue streams. Cloud gaming allows users to play high-end video games without expensive hardware, making NVIDIA’s technology increasingly essential to the gaming industry’s future.

4. Data Center Growth and Strategic Partnerships

Data centers are another major growth driver for NVIDIA. With businesses and governments increasing their reliance on cloud computing and AI-driven data analysis, NVIDIA’s data center revenue continues to rise.

Major cloud service providers like AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure all utilize NVIDIA’s GPUs for their AI and machine learning workloads. In Canada, growing investments in cloud infrastructure and AI research make NVIDIA an even more attractive investment.

5. The Boom in Autonomous Vehicles and Robotics

Self-driving cars and robotics are no longer a distant dream. Companies like Tesla, Waymo, and traditional automakers are investing heavily in autonomous vehicle technology, and NVIDIA’s DRIVE platform is at the center of these developments.

Canada, with its focus on smart cities and technological innovation, is likely to see increased adoption of autonomous vehicle technologies. NVIDIA’s continued partnerships with automakers and robotics firms ensure it will play a crucial role in the industry’s future.

6. A Strong Presence in the Canadian Market

NVIDIA is well-positioned in the Canadian market, with partnerships across industries. Canadian universities and research institutions are heavily invested in AI research, many using NVIDIA’s GPUs for advanced computations.

Additionally, tech hubs in cities like Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal have a growing demand for high-performance computing, further solidifying NVIDIA’s role in Canada’s tech ecosystem.

7. Stock Split Potential and Shareholder Returns

NVIDIA has a history of stock splits, making it more accessible to retail investors. If NVIDIA’s stock price continues its upward trajectory, another stock split could be on the horizon, attracting more investors.

Beyond potential splits, NVIDIA has also demonstrated shareholder-friendly policies, including occasional dividend payments and strong stock buyback programs, making it an attractive option for long-term investors.

8. Diversification Beyond Just Tech Stocks

For Canadian investors looking to diversify beyond traditional energy and banking stocks, NVIDIA provides a strong tech investment option. With the TSX dominated by resource-heavy industries, adding an innovative technology stock like NVIDIA to a portfolio can provide exposure to global tech trends.

Conclusion

NVIDIA’s stronghold in AI, gaming, cloud computing, and autonomous vehicles makes it one of the most attractive stocks for Canadian investors in 2025. With a proven track record of financial growth, strategic partnerships, and an expanding role in global industries, NVIDIA continues to offer immense potential.

If you’re considering adding this tech giant to your portfolio, now is a great time to research how to buy NVIDIA stock in Canada. Whether through a brokerage account, TFSA, or RRSP, investing in NVIDIA could provide long-term gains as the company continues to innovate and lead the tech sector.

For Canadian investors seeking growth, stability, and future-proof investments, NVIDIA stands out as a top choice in 2025.

Daniel Lanois Announces Rare Ontario Tour Dates in August with the Lanois Trio

0

Daniel Lanois, the highly acclaimed producer, musician, songwriter, and vocalist, is set to return to Ontario for a series of rare live performances this August. His long-standing working relationships with Eno, Peter Gabriel, U2, Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and many more have produced some of the music industry’s greatest hits. Immerse yourself in the extraordinary sounds of the Daniel Lanois Trio, live in an intimate setting, featuring Jermaine Holmes on drums and vocals, and the mighty Jim Wilson on bass and vocals, blending together in a powerful three-part harmony. Tickets go are available here.

Daniel Lanois is a name that deserves to be mentioned alongside the finest sonic experimenters of the 20th century – and the 21st century too. Yes, he’s been willing to step back into the background as others take the limelight, but that shouldn’t diminish his contribution, which ripples throughout practically every style and sound of the modern era.

Whatever you’re listening to – whether it be acoustic or electronic, roots or futurist, underground or pop – if you listen closely, you’ll hear traces of the sonic signatures of Daniel Lanois. And what’s more he’s still experimenting as eagerly as he ever has. At a point when most musicians with anything resembling his level of success would be resting on their laurels and playing on old successes, he still has more hunger for the new than people a third his age, and as a result is creating music as beautiful and new as ever before.

Lanois says, “The road is calling as the music keeps on guiding me through the labyrinths of song, messages and inventions”. As music rides the airwaves, we continue to troubadour our way to the stage for that exchange we love; ‘live performance’.

The Lanois Trio all started on the outskirts of Berlin in a small chapel, 3-part harmony with my mates Jermaine Holmes on drums and vocals, the mighty Jim Wilson on bass and vocals, Lanois on guitar and vocals. The chapel acoustics were such that the vocals sounded beautiful, we chose to keep our instruments quiet and let the vocals fill the night. More to come from this dynamic configuration, by live shows and otherwise. The more I travel, the more it all bleeds together, record making, radio, Internet, tv, festivals, Life itself and of course SINGING. The original instrument, that being the voice, is alive and will in this trio configuration.”

I hope you love this song.”

Country Rock Powerhouse Tyler Braden Announces Debut Album ‘Devil and a Prayer,’ Out May 16

Country-rock powerhouse Tyler Braden is set to release his highly anticipated debut full-length album, devil and a prayer, on May 16th via Warner Music Nashville. The album, consisting of 19 songs, was conceptualized by Braden to serve as a representation of his own artistic and personal growth, both combined and delivered to the listener in the imaginative form of a live show.

As an artist, it’s exciting to constantly relearn who you are as you grow, and this album is a huge culmination of those moments,” Braden says. “The whole process of a debut album has taught me so much about myself and I’m stoked for everyone to experience who I’ve become. Front to back, it’s where I’ve been and it’s the direction I’m headed. I built it like a set list, consistently keeping the live aspect in mind, so check it out and then come see it in person!

An early highlight to release off the powerhouse vocalist’s forthcoming album is the anthemic “GOD & GUNS N’ ROSES,” which released today alongside the album pre-order for devil and a prayer.

Announcing my debut album with “GOD & GUNS N’ ROSES” feels amazing because it’s a great example of the direction our writing and creativity is going. I can’t wait to hear how it makes y’all feel. And who doesn’t love Guns N’ Roses on some level?”

In addition to “GOD & GUNS N’ ROSES,” devil and a prayer also includes Braden’s previously released fan-favorites “MORE THAN A PRAYER”, “ABOVE THE WATER”, “ME OR THE DAWN,” “CALL ME FIRST,” and the yet to be released, future fan-favorite, sole featured-duet on the album “MIGHT BE DANGEROUS” (with Kaitlin Butts).

Tyler Braden has the gritty powerhouse vocal, the expressive pen and the ability to deliver a lyric with complete conviction worthy of a headliner. Braden began crafting his sound as a teenager in Slapout, AL, where he demonstrated his mettle playing four-hour cover sets. He continued to perform between shifts as a firefighter in both Montgomery and Nashville; a set at the homegrown Whiskey Jam concert series in January 2017 paved his path to today. His 2023 Warner Music Nashville EP, Neon Grave, combines deep-rooted country tradition with the rollicking, high-energy instincts of a born rock ‘n’ roller. That project’s flagship single, “Try Losing One,” hit No. 1 on SiriusXM The Highway’s Hot 30 Countdown. In February 2024 Braden began making new waves with viral track “Devil You Know” – a won’t-back-down anthem that attracted 10+ million views across social media in just two weeks, before arriving at #1 on SiriusXM’s The Highway, and touting more than 175M+ global streams, consistently notching 3M+ streams each week. Braden’s studio recordings capture the same high-energy vibe as his live shows, resonating with fans across the globe. Braden has graced the stage with top acts like Luke Bryan, Brooks & Dunn, Brantley Gilbert, Chris Stapleton, Dierks Bentley, Mitchell Tenpenny, and now with 385+ million global streams to his name, Braden is now taking stages world round. After a dynamic first leg of his headline The Real Friends Tour, the Alabama native rounded out 2024 with the tour’s second leg, before joining Brothers Osborne on their Might As Well Be Us world tour, hitting the UK and Ireland in January 2025. As 2025 is well underway, Braden sets his sights on new horizons with the release of his debut, 19-song, upcoming album devil and a prayer, set to release May 16, 2025. The vocal power-house will once again share the stage with Warren Zeiders on The Relapse Tour in Spring 2025.
