Telluride Bluegrass Festival 2025 Finalizes Lineup with Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Thee Sacred Souls, Rebirth Brass Band, and DUG

0

The word Festivarian means a lot of things to a lot of people, their backgrounds and hometowns wildly varied, their ages ranging from brand new to wise and weathered, but one specific trait ties them all together: The Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Dubbed Festivarians after a reinterpreted version of C.P. Cafavy’s poem, “Ithaka,” was printed in a 1994 Planet Bluegrass brochure, the term stuck and was embodied in a way that nobody could’ve guessed. These droves of families, friends, and music lovers make their yearly pilgrimage to Telluride’s Town Park to take in not just the most beautiful music festival, but maybe the most tight-knit community of repeat ticket-holders known to man. They know exactly what it means to be a Festivarian and are happy to invite newcomers to their fold.

Today, Planet Bluegrass—the team behind Telluride Bluegrass which takes place June 19-22 in Telluride, as well as other Colorado favorites like Rockygrass and Rocky Mountain Folks Fest in Lyons—added three more world-class acts to finalize the 2025 Telluride Bluegrass Festival Lineup: San Diego’s R&B fan-favorites, Thee Sacred Souls, New Orleans second line institution, Rebirth Brass Band, and the Trans-Atlantic Irish-American stylings of DUG. These additions cap off an already Festivarian-approved lineup featuring the heart of today’s bluegrass genre as well as music from the vibrant branches it has grown over the last three-quarters of a century.

Do LaB Unveils 2025 Coachella Lineup: Anderson .Paak’s DJ Pee .Wee, RUDIM3NTAL B2B Skepsis, TOKiMONSTA, Tycho, Snakehips B2B What So Not And More

0

Today, immersive experience curators Do LaB unveil the artist lineup for its 2025 stage at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Marking two decades at the forefront of Coachella’s creative and cultural evolution, Do LaB has transformed from a niche, experimental stage into a cornerstone of the festival’s ecosystem and a driving force in interactive music experiences.

For 20 years, the Do LaB has been the catalyst to some of Coachella’s most unforgettable moments. The stage’s inimitable environment provides both an intimate playground for both the world’s most in-demand artists and next gen stars. Recently adopted Do LaB devotees will recall Billie Eilish shocking the world with a surprise set last year, while the OG heads can tell you about seeing DJ sets from RÜFÜS DU SOL and ODESZA before they ascended to stadium-headlining status.

These historic moments are all fueled by the brand’s signature renegade spirit and ‘anything goes’ ethos, making it the perfect home for the global electronic music elite to pop up on the Polo Fields – from Skrillex to Bonobo, Richie Hawtin to Major Lazer – you never know who’s going to show up.

With its 2025 lineup, Do LaB promises one of its most ambitious to date, featuring appearances across both weekends by the prolific Anderson .Paak’s DJ PEE .WEE UK heavyweights RUDIM3NTAL B2B Skepsis, visionary Young Art Records label head TOKiMONSTA, atmospheric soundscaper Tycho (DJ Set), future bass pioneers Snakehips B2B What So Not, and Detroit flag bearer MK B2B Special Guest.

Do LaB will also continue to reinforce its status as a home for experimentation, welcoming rare DJ sets from the likes of drag superstar Trixie Mattel, renowned bassist and singer-songwriter Blu DeTiger, high energy dance pop duo Confidence Man, rock-influenced alt electronic duo The Hellp, and a can’t be missed back to back from Jyoty B2B Zack Fox.

Some of dance music’s most buzzed about names will take center stage, including the meteroric three piece Levity, melodic house maestro Le Youth, four to the floor hitmaker Max Styler, UK garage and house riser Riordan, bass driven groove specialist Oppidan, and deep house duo Ship Wrek.

Elsewhere, the Do LaB will continue to house more underground-leaning and experimental sounds by leftfield D&B innovators Ivy Lab (DNB Set) B2B Kasra, forward thinking club selector BAMBII, UK garage trailblazer Conducta and new wave UK garage artist MPH, and rising talent Villager.

Additional acts include multidisciplinary DJ and producer Kitty Ca$h, global club favorite Nooriyah, London export nimino (DJ Set), viral Turkish DJ and producer Mahmut Orhan, melodic house pairing Layla Benitez B2B Henri Bergmann, and several more.

One of the Do LaB’s most anticipated yearly affairs is its array of surprise special guests, announced day by day during each Coachella weekend. Surprise acts in 2024 featured Billie Eilish & Friends, DJ Snake’s Hip Hop Set, DJ Pee .Wee, Kaskade, SOFI TUKKER, Bonobo, Barry Can’t Swim, and more, with preceding years seeing the likes of Skrillex, Major Lazer, ZHU, Richie Hawtin, Bob Moses, and SG Lewis among others.

Do LaB’s Coachella stage is a preview for what’s to come with the brand’s flagship festival, Lightning in a Bottle, taking place Memorial Day Weekend on May 21-25 at Buena Vista Lake in Southern California. The five day Lightning in a Bottle experience will continue its tradition of boundary-pushing performances, immersive art, cause-driven non-music programming, and wellness experiences.

Lightning in a Bottle 2025’s lineup features John Summit, Khruangbin, Jamie xx, Four Tet, Subtronics, Underworld, Sammy Virji, Monolink, TroyBoi, The Blessed Madonna, Shygirl presents Club Shy, Channel Tres, Ammarae, Magdalena Bay, Tinlicker, Hamdi, Tape B, Peekaboo, Claude VonStroke, Jade Cicada, Flowdan, Joy Orbison, and many more.

Why Novo Guitars Stand Out Among Electric Guitar Brands

0

By Mitch Rice

Novo Guitars has quickly earned a spot as one of the most esteemed and sought-after boutique electric guitar makers. Founded by famous luthier Dennis Fano, Novo combines a vintage appearance with modern craftsmanship and innovative design to create instruments that are as visually stunning as they are sonically praiseworthy.

While a number of electric guitar brands focus on either mass production or on copying classic designs, Novo sets itself apart in several significant ways: its truly distinctive philosophy of instrument design, its high-altitude craftsmanship, an unparalleled playability factor, and its signature tonal character.

Unique Design Philosophy

Novo guitars immediately stand out due to their truly remarkable body shapes and finish. The bodies are constructed to create a lightweight and comfy guitar that’s easy to wear for long gigs. Their ergonomic contours mean they settle snugly against the torso. Novo also employs an understated combination of binding and top carving that makes for a nice visual transition from face to side without calling too much attention to itself.

Unparalleled Craftsmanship

In contrast to electric guitars churned out by the thousands, Novo instruments are meticulously handcrafted in Nashville, Tennessee, by a small team of skilled luthiers. Every aspect of the build, from wood selection to fretwork and final setup – is executed to ensure precision and quality.

One of Novo’s standout attributes is its use of tempered (torrefied) woods, which are treated with heat to simulate a century’s worth of aging. This not only enhances the stability of the guitar but also gives it a more resonant voice and an old-school, just-broken-in tone. Not all electric guitar brands place a lot of emphasis on craftsmanship.

However, Novo guitars are built with a meticulous attention to detail that is evident in every facet of their construction. The guitars have perfect fretwork and necks expertly shaped for maximum comfort. Their hardware is chosen with an eye toward both aesthetics and functionality, such that the guitars function faithfully. All of this combines to make each Novo guitar feel like a beloved vintage instrument right out of the box.

Superior Playability and Comfort

Novo guitars are crafted for playability. Their lightweight bodies and well-balanced designs make them comfortable to play for long stretches. The necks have a silky, natural feel that a lot of musicians find appealing.

Their hardware has the same high-quality vibe as the guitars themselves. The bridges are Mastery units, and the tuners are top-notch as well. Both contribute mightily to the tuning stability and intonation.

Unmistakable Tonal Character

Guitarists are drawn to Novo for many reasons, but one of the main ones is their tonal excellence. Using pickups from the top-tier brands, Novo fits its guitars with high-end electrics that give the instruments a dynamic and expressive sonic palette more akin to that of a much more expensive guitar.

It’s no secret that the clear and articulate voice of Novo guitars makes them ideal for a variety of musical applications.

Learn for Yourself why Novo Guitars Are Among the Elite Electric Guitar Brands

Novo has made a name for itself in the electric guitar market by taking its vintage inspirations and blending them with modern innovations. The company is committed to what seems like a long-forgotten ideal: high-quality craftsmanship, unique design choices, and a superior playability that makes you want to pick up the instrument and keep strumming.

The Importance of Quality Sticker Printing

In today’s competitive marketplace, stickers have evolved from simple adhesive labels to indispensable tools for branding and communication. High-quality sticker printing is no longer a luxury—it is a strategic asset that can enhance brand recognition, convey important messages, and create memorable experiences with your audience. The tactile nature of a well-produced sticker, combined with its visual appeal, can transform an everyday object into a dynamic ambassador for your brand.

Whether used on product packaging, as part of promotional campaigns, or integrated into broader marketing strategies, stickers offer a unique blend of versatility and impact. They provide a canvas for creativity that can capture the essence of your brand and communicate it effectively. This practical guide explores a range of approaches to achieving high-quality sticker printing, offering insights into materials, processes, and innovative techniques that ensure every sticker not only looks exceptional but also performs reliably under diverse conditions.

Understanding Materials and Production Processes

A fundamental aspect of high-quality sticker printing is the selection of appropriate materials and the mastery of production processes. The quality of the raw materials—whether it is the adhesive, the vinyl, or the paper substrate—plays a pivotal role in the final product’s durability and appearance. For instance, vinyl stickers offer a robust and weather-resistant solution ideal for outdoor use, while high-grade paper stickers may be more suitable for indoor promotions and packaging.

In the early stages of planning your sticker production, it is crucial to consider the intended use and environmental exposure of the stickers. This decision will influence material choices, such as opting for water-resistant adhesives or UV-resistant inks that help maintain vibrancy over time. A meticulous approach to selecting materials ensures that your stickers meet the demands of their application, whether they are affixed to vehicles, products, or promotional items.

Innovative production methods are also transforming the sticker printing industry. Advances in digital printing have made it possible to achieve stunning detail and colour accuracy, even on complex designs. Early in the exploration of these techniques, one might encounter services such as HelloPrint, which offers customisable production options designed to cater to the precise needs of your brand. By utilising state-of-the-art technology and high-quality materials, businesses can ensure that every sticker printed reflects the professionalism and creativity of the brand it represents.

Innovative Printing Techniques for Superior Stickers

The world of sticker printing has witnessed remarkable advancements in recent years, driven by both technological innovation and creative demand. Digital printing methods have revolutionised the process, allowing for rapid turnaround times and a level of detail that was previously unattainable. These techniques are particularly advantageous when dealing with intricate designs or when producing small batches of highly customised stickers.

One of the key benefits of modern digital printing is its ability to reproduce vivid colours and fine details consistently. This precision is essential for brands that rely on a specific colour palette or detailed imagery to maintain their identity. The use of specialised inks, coupled with advanced printing presses, results in stickers that are not only eye-catching but also resilient to fading and wear.

In addition to digital methods, traditional screen printing still holds a place in the production of high-quality stickers, especially for larger quantities where consistency is paramount. Screen printing can be an excellent choice for designs that involve bold colours and simple shapes. The tactile finish achieved through this method often adds an extra layer of depth and character to the sticker, appealing to audiences that appreciate a classic, handcrafted look.

Both digital and screen printing techniques offer unique advantages, and the choice between them should be guided by the specific requirements of your sticker project. Factors such as the complexity of the design, the desired finish, and the volume of production all play a role in determining the most appropriate method. A well-informed decision in this area can make the difference between a mediocre promotional item and a standout piece of branded merchandise.

The Crucial Role of Design in Sticker Quality

While the production process and materials are critical to the physical quality of a sticker, the design is what ultimately captures the attention and hearts of your audience. A successful sticker design must balance aesthetic appeal with clear communication, ensuring that the message of your brand is delivered in a concise and engaging manner.

Design elements such as colour, typography, and imagery are instrumental in creating a sticker that resonates with its intended audience. For example, a bold, vibrant colour scheme can evoke a sense of excitement and energy, while a more subdued palette might convey sophistication and reliability. The choice of font and layout should be consistent with your brand’s identity and the context in which the sticker will be used.

The format of the sticker is another design consideration that can significantly affect its impact. Traditional shapes like circles, squares, and rectangles are reliable choices, but die-cut stickers—those that are cut to a specific shape or outline—offer a unique opportunity to showcase your brand’s creativity. Die-cut stickers can follow the contours of a logo or a distinctive design element, adding an extra layer of visual intrigue and making the sticker instantly recognisable.

Furthermore, the design process should consider the sticker’s end-use. A design that works brilliantly on a laptop might need adjustments when applied to a vehicle or product packaging. Attention to scale, readability, and durability under different conditions is essential. Incorporating interactive elements such as QR codes or hashtags can also extend the sticker’s functionality, encouraging audiences to engage with your brand on digital platforms. This seamless integration of design and functionality ensures that each sticker serves not only as a decorative item but also as a potent tool for brand engagement.

Ensuring Durability and Versatility

Durability is a cornerstone of high-quality sticker printing. A sticker that peels, fades, or deteriorates quickly fails to deliver the long-term promotional benefits that your brand deserves. To achieve durability, it is imperative to use materials and adhesives that are designed to withstand the test of time and the rigours of the environment in which they will be used.

For outdoor applications, selecting weather-resistant materials is non-negotiable. UV-resistant inks and robust vinyl substrates help ensure that the stickers remain vibrant even when exposed to harsh sunlight and variable weather conditions. Similarly, indoor stickers should be produced with a focus on longevity, using high-quality adhesives that prevent peeling and maintain a clean, professional appearance.

Versatility is another key attribute of premium stickers. They should be designed to perform across a range of surfaces, whether they are being applied to glass, plastic, metal, or fabric. Achieving this level of versatility requires a thoughtful approach to both material selection and production techniques. The right combination of durable substrate and high-performance adhesive can turn a simple sticker into a multi-use branding tool that adapts effortlessly to different settings and applications.

Additionally, the finishing options available in sticker printing, such as matte, glossy, or even holographic effects, can enhance both the aesthetic appeal and functional durability of the final product. These finishes not only contribute to the tactile experience of the sticker but also add a layer of protection against environmental factors. By carefully considering these elements, you can produce stickers that not only look exceptional but also maintain their integrity over time, ensuring that your brand’s message remains clear and impactful.

Balancing Budget with Premium Production

One of the most common challenges faced by businesses is achieving a high standard of quality without exceeding budget constraints. The good news is that modern sticker printing techniques offer solutions that balance cost-effectiveness with premium quality. Strategic planning and resource allocation are key to ensuring that your sticker projects are both affordable and impressive.

Cost-saving measures can be implemented without sacrificing the overall quality of the sticker. For instance, ordering in bulk often allows you to take advantage of economies of scale, reducing the per-unit cost while ensuring consistency across a large number of stickers. However, bulk production should not compromise on quality control. Investing in a reliable production process and quality materials from the outset can prevent costly reprints and ensure that your brand is always represented at its best.

It is also worth exploring the benefits of working with experienced printers who understand the nuances of high-quality sticker production. An established printing partner can provide valuable insights into the most effective methods and materials, ensuring that every aspect of the production process aligns with your quality standards. This collaborative approach can lead to innovative solutions that meet your promotional needs while remaining within your budgetary limits.

Balancing cost and quality requires a clear understanding of your priorities. By focusing on the elements that contribute most significantly to the sticker’s performance—such as durability, design, and finish—you can make informed decisions that enhance the overall value of your promotional materials. This thoughtful approach ensures that every penny spent contributes to the creation of stickers that elevate your brand and resonate with your audience.

Integrating Digital Technologies in Sticker Printing

The integration of digital technologies has opened up new horizons in the world of sticker printing, transforming traditional methods into dynamic, interactive experiences. Digital integration not only enhances the aesthetic quality of your stickers but also expands their functionality, allowing them to bridge the gap between physical and digital marketing strategies.

One of the most exciting developments in this area is the use of QR codes and augmented reality (AR) features embedded within sticker designs. These digital elements can serve as gateways to exclusive content, special offers, or interactive brand experiences that extend well beyond the sticker itself. For example, a customer scanning a QR code on a sticker might be directed to a bespoke landing page or invited to participate in a social media campaign, thereby deepening their engagement with your brand.

Digital printing techniques also allow for rapid customisation and iteration. This means that you can test multiple designs and gather real-time feedback from your target audience, refining your approach to achieve the perfect balance of form and function. The seamless integration of digital tools into the sticker production process ensures that your promotional materials are not only visually stunning but also strategically aligned with your broader marketing goals.

Embracing Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Practices

As environmental concerns continue to influence consumer behaviour and corporate responsibility, sustainable practices in sticker printing have become increasingly important. High-quality does not have to come at the expense of the environment—by selecting eco-friendly materials and production methods, you can achieve superior sticker printing while minimising your ecological footprint.

Eco-friendly options such as recycled vinyl, biodegradable adhesives, and sustainable inks are now readily available and offer performance that is comparable to conventional materials. These choices reflect a commitment to environmental stewardship, which can resonate deeply with consumers who value sustainability. Integrating these practices into your production process not only supports a greener planet but also enhances your brand’s reputation as a responsible and forward-thinking organisation.

Sustainable sticker printing is about more than just materials—it is a holistic approach that considers every step of the production cycle. From energy-efficient printing processes to waste reduction strategies, embracing sustainability can transform the way you think about promotional materials. This forward-looking approach ensures that your high-quality stickers are as kind to the environment as they are impressive to your audience, setting a standard for innovation and responsibility in the industry.

Embarking on a New Era of Sticker Excellence

In a landscape where every detail of brand presentation matters, high-quality sticker printing stands as a testament to creative ingenuity and practical craftsmanship. The journey from a concept to a finished sticker is one that encompasses meticulous material selection, innovative production techniques, and a deep understanding of design principles. By embracing practical approaches that balance quality, durability, and sustainability, you empower your brand to communicate its message in a manner that is both visually captivating and inherently reliable.

As the industry continues to evolve, the fusion of digital innovation with traditional printing methods promises an exciting future where stickers become interactive, sustainable, and ever more integral to your brand’s narrative. This is an era where each sticker is not merely an accessory, but a dynamic ambassador that bridges the gap between physical presence and digital engagement.

Step boldly into this new era of sticker excellence, where every printed piece is a work of art, a functional marketing tool, and a sustainable choice for the future. With these practical approaches guiding your production strategy, your stickers will not only capture attention but also inspire action, transforming everyday interactions into opportunities for creative and meaningful engagement.

5 Surprising Facts About The Replacements’ ‘Let It Be’

Few albums capture the messy, exhilarating transition from adolescence to adulthood quite like Let It Be, the 1984 breakthrough album from The Replacements. A brilliant mix of ragged punk energy, heartfelt balladry, and absurd humor, Let It Be cemented Paul Westerberg and company as one of the most important bands in alternative rock. But beyond the anthems and self-deprecating wit, there are some fascinating stories behind the album that even die-hard fans might not know.

1. Peter Buck of R.E.M. Almost Produced the Album

When The Replacements were gearing up to record Let It Be, there were rumors that R.E.M.’s Peter Buck would be producing the album. Buck later confirmed that the band did consider him for the role, and he even met with them in Athens, Georgia. However, when they got together, The Replacements didn’t have enough new material prepared. While Buck didn’t take the producer’s chair, he did contribute guitar to “I Will Dare”—stepping in after lead guitarist Bob Stinson struggled to find the right solo for the song.

2. The Album’s Title Was Meant as a Joke

Naming your album Let It Be is a pretty audacious move, especially when you’re a scrappy band from Minneapolis taking on the legacy of The Beatles. Paul Westerberg later admitted that the name came from a radio gamble—the band had planned to name the album after whatever song came on next. When “Let It Be” played, they stuck with it, partially as a joke on their Beatles-obsessed manager, Peter Jesperson. Westerberg later doubled down on the irreverence, saying their next album might as well have been called Let It Bleed.

3. “Unsatisfied” Was Barely Finished in the Studio

One of the most emotional and gut-wrenching songs on the album, “Unsatisfied,” was actually a work-in-progress when The Replacements started recording it. Westerberg had only written the central lyric—”I’m so unsatisfied”—before they entered the studio, and much of the song’s structure and instrumentation was improvised on the spot. Guitarist Bob Stinson joined in halfway through a take, despite never having heard the song before. Ironically, despite its unfinished nature, “Unsatisfied” has become one of the most beloved tracks in the band’s catalog.

4. The Band’s Antagonistic Live Shows Inspired “Androgynous”

By the time they recorded Let It Be, The Replacements had a reputation for deliberately antagonizing their audience. They often played entire sets of cover songs meant to confuse and frustrate their punk fans. Westerberg took this idea further with “Androgynous,” a song that celebrated gender fluidity and rejected traditional rock masculinity—ideas that were lightyears ahead of their time in the ’80s. Though it was an outlier on the album, “Androgynous” has since become one of the band’s most enduring and influential songs.

5. “I Will Dare” Was Westerberg’s Answer to U2

According to Paul Westerberg, Let It Be’s opening track, “I Will Dare,” was written as a response to U2’s “I Will Follow.” While U2’s song had an urgent, anthemic quality, “I Will Dare” was more playful, embodying The Replacements’ carefree attitude. The song’s shuffle rhythm and melodic guitar line set it apart from the band’s earlier punk material, signaling a new direction. It also marked the band’s first collaboration with Peter Buck, who contributed the jangly lead guitar work that helped define the song.

Four decades after its release, Let It Be remains one of the most celebrated albums in alternative rock. It captures The Replacements at their rawest, funniest, and most sincere—a perfect snapshot of a band teetering between self-sabotage and greatness. Whether you’re revisiting it for nostalgia or hearing it for the first time, Let It Be is proof that sometimes, the best records come from bands who dare to be different.

5 Surprising Facts About The Pretenders’ Debut Album

Few albums in rock history have kicked the door down quite like Pretenders, the explosive debut from Chrissie Hynde and company released in 1980. A seamless fusion of punk energy, new wave hooks, and rock and roll swagger, Pretenders made the band a household name, delivering iconic hits like “Brass in Pocket,” “Kid,” and “Stop Your Sobbing.” But behind the sharp songwriting and undeniable charisma, there are some fascinating stories about this legendary record that even die-hard fans may not know.

1. Nick Lowe Didn’t Think They’d Make It

Nick Lowe, a producer who helped shape the sound of new wave, was behind the band’s first single, a cover of the Kinks’ “Stop Your Sobbing.” But after that session, Lowe opted out of working with the band again, famously saying he didn’t think they were “going anywhere.” Enter Chris Thomas, fresh off his work with the Sex Pistols and Roxy Music, who stepped in to produce Pretenders. Under his guidance, the album became a powerhouse, proving Lowe’s assessment dead wrong. Ironically, Lowe had worked with Elvis Costello, another act initially underestimated by the industry—making his misjudgment all the more shocking in hindsight.

2. Chrissie Hynde Was Initially Against Releasing “Brass in Pocket”

“Brass in Pocket” became Pretenders’ first #1 hit in the UK and a defining moment of the early ’80s. But Chrissie Hynde was so unsure about the song that she tried to block its release as a single. She disliked how her voice sounded on the recording, feeling that she was still figuring out her vocal identity. Her producer, Chris Thomas, had to convince her that the song had something special. The rest, of course, is history. Hynde later admitted that she had grown to love it, and today, it stands as one of the most recognizable tracks in rock.

3. The Album Features a Song Inspired by a Real-Life Mugging

The album’s opening track, “Precious,” sets the tone with its raw punk energy and razor-sharp attitude. But the song has a darker inspiration—Hynde wrote it after being mugged at knifepoint in Cleveland, her hometown. Rather than wallowing in fear, she transformed the experience into an empowering, confrontational anthem. The song’s driving rhythm and venomous delivery make it one of the most exhilarating album openers of all time, serving as a perfect introduction to the band’s fearless style.

4. James Honeyman-Scott Crafted “Kid’s” Guitar Solo Over Several Days

Lead guitarist James Honeyman-Scott’s playing on Pretenders is nothing short of sublime, and nowhere is that more evident than on “Kid.” His solo on the song is a study in melody and restraint, striking the perfect balance between pop sensibility and rock grit. According to drummer Martin Chambers, Honeyman-Scott meticulously crafted the solo over multiple days, refining each note until it felt just right. The end result? A guitar break that remains one of the most elegant and memorable moments in Pretenders’ catalog.

5. Grace Jones Covered One of Its Deep Cuts—And It Became a Hit

While Pretenders was packed with hits, one of its lesser-known tracks, “Private Life,” found an unlikely second life in the hands of an icon from a completely different genre: Grace Jones. The reggae-influenced song caught the attention of Jones, who recorded her own version for Warm Leatherette in 1980. Jones’ take transformed “Private Life” into a brooding, dub-heavy anthem that cracked the UK charts, introducing Hynde’s songwriting to an entirely new audience. Hynde later admitted that she thought Jones’ version was better than her own!

Four decades after its release, Pretenders still sounds fresh, vital, and defiant. It introduced the world to Chrissie Hynde’s inimitable voice, James Honeyman-Scott’s brilliant guitar work, and a band that could seamlessly bridge the worlds of punk, new wave, and classic rock. Whether you’re revisiting it for the hundredth time or discovering it for the first, there’s always something new to uncover in this landmark debut.

Phil Lesh Honored with ‘Phil Lesh Lane’ in Port Chester, NY, Ahead of 85th Birthday Celebration

0

The Capitol Theatre and the Village of Port Chester, NY are honoring founding Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh with a lasting tribute.

On March 14, 2025, in celebration of Lesh’s 85th birthday on March 15, the corner of Westchester Avenue and Broad Street – right outside the historic venue – will officially be renamed Phil Lesh Lane. Broad Street holds special significance as home to The Cap’s “Door 12” stage door – the very entrance Lesh used for 106 performances since 2012 and the spot where his tour bus was regularly parked.

“Phil was like a father to the Capitol, and performed there more times than any other musician in the theater’s history. We are thrilled that he will now be with us, on the same street, for every show the theater has moving forward, forever.” – Peter Shapiro

The official street dedication ceremony will take place on March 14 at 4:00pm kicking off a four-night celebration at The Capitol Theatre, featuring Lesh’s son, Grahame Lesh alongside an all-star lineup. Support during the four-show run includes Rick Mitarotonda, Eric Krasno, Oteil Burbridge, Jason Crosby, John Molo, Jennifer Hartswick, Jackie Greene, Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams, Steve Molitz, Warren Haynes, Jimmy Herring, and Rob Barraco.

As a founding member of the Grateful Dead, Lesh played a pivotal role in shaping Port Chester’s musical and cultural legacy. The band’s 18 legendary shows at The Capitol Theatre between 1970 and 1971 remain a defining moment in the venue’s history, with recordings treasured by fans worldwide. Since The Capitol Theatre’s reopening in 2012, Lesh has since returned for 106 shows, drawing hundreds of thousands of fans to Port Chester and fueling the local economy.

“The Lesh Family is so honored that the many magical nights that Phil spent at The Cap will be commemorated with Phil Lesh Lane. Phil loved The Cap and the entire community that came to his shows here, and our whole family will always feel the love that reflected back to him and all of us. It is extra special for this commemoration to happen on his 85th Birthday weekend, as we all spent so many of his birthdays with Deadheads who traveled from near and far to celebrate with him and our family.” – Grahame Lesh

Lesh’s deep ties to the village have been recognized over the years, receiving the Key to Port Chester and being named an Honorary Firefighter by the Port Chester Volunteer Fire Department. Now, with Phil Lesh Lane, the community is solidifying his legacy with a permanent landmark.

The official street dedication ceremony will take place on March 14 at 4:00pm kicking off a four-night celebration at The Capitol Theatre, featuring Lesh’s son, Grahame Lesh, and grandson Levi, alongside an all-star lineup. Support during the four-show run includes: Rick Mitarotonda, Eric Krasno, Oteil Burbridge, Jason Crosby, John Molo, Jennifer Hartswick, Jackie Greene, Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams, Steve Molitz, Warren Haynes, Jimmy Herring, and Rob Barraco.

Festival Director Beth Judy says, ”Our first festival was Suwannee SpringFest in March of 1997 at the Spirit of Suwannee, so it is fitting that Randy’s tribute ends up being in the Spring (after having to cancel the 2024 Suwannee Roots Revival due to the hurricane). Plus, Sam Bush will be there, and Randy loves Sam! I’m quite sure that if you look close enough, you’ll almost see Randy sitting at the Amphitheater Stage tapping his foot with Vassar and Col. Bruce sitting beside him!!”

The Tent is a fantastic spot to immerse yourself in the music and dance and, new to this year, has been relocated a bit closer to Vendor Row for added convenience! The Music Hall remains an excellent spot for special indoor listening experiences with stage lighting, air conditioning, and a cafe. It will have a full bar set up, and WildCrafters will be vending nearby with a non-alcoholic bar serving kava, teas, and booze-free craft mocktails.
