Tony Ann Releases Sophomore Album ‘360°’ and Announces Worldwide Tour Dates

0

Reaching yet another creative high watermark, piano virtuoso, multiplatinum songwriter, and social media sensation Tony Ann just released his anxiously awaited full-length sophomore album, 360°, on February 21, 2025 via Decca Records. Over the past year and until now, he has released a new single corresponding to the astrological sign of the month. Listen to the 12 tracks, including the last one PISCES (nicknamed “The Artist”).

Once again, Tony Ann advances creatively on 360°. Each song functions as a meditation on a different horoscope, encompassing 12 keys at different meters and tempos. It plunges listeners into a living and breathing musical ecosystem punctuated by bliss and catharsis. He employs the full range of the piano to evoke the singularity of these respective astrological signs. The entire suite revolves around his virtuosic chops, melodic empathy, and electrifying energy. Once again, he redefines the neoclassical space.

Regarding the concept for the full project, Aries is the first sign of the astrological year. It begins with the Spring Equinox. Next, the astrological signs follow the seasons, which are correlated with the earth’s rotation around the sun (a 360-degree cycle). This offers four highlights: the Summer Solstice (90 degrees), the Autumn Equinox (180 degrees), the Winter Solstice (270 degrees) and the Spring Equinox (360 degrees).

In other news, Tony started an international tour in 2024 and will continue in 2025. It will start in March with his debut tour in Australia, and then Europe. More dates to come. He had his first viral hit in 2024 with ICARUS: +55M streams and +2M creations on socials.

Tony Ann released his first single in 2023 and now has over 200 million streams.

360° TRACKLISTING

  1. ARIES “The Charismatic”

With the first star sign of the zodiac, ARIES (nicknamed “The Charismatic”), Ann begins his exploration of the cosmos with a piece that begins with a bright and lively dynamic and tempo. The ARIES personality is known to be energetic, bold and competitive and the constant drive of the left hand and alberti style right hand echoes these traits brilliantly. Written in the key of A minor, Ann uses the lack of sharps and flats to his advantage with the purity of the tonal centre a great fit for the trailblazer feel, in which there is a sense of desperation and desire in equal measure.

  1. TAURUS “The Tenacious”

The second sign of the zodiac, TAURUS (nicknamed “The Tenacious”) sees Ann explore traits of perseverance and concentration through a composition rich in dynamic changes. The piece begins with the simplicity of a major 3rd before a left hand enters that slowly walks down stepwise, mirroring a right hand that ascends with a melodic arpeggio. The track gathers pace throughout with it reaching a thunderous crescendo, a trademark sound familiar to his solo piano compositions. Written in the key of D Minor, Ann takes us on a stunning musical journey that matches the strength and determination found in this star sign.

  1. GEMINI “The Curious”

With the third sign of the zodiac, GEMINI (nicknamed “The Curious”), Ann explores the themes of curiosity and wonder in a piece that is both playful and elegant. With a melody that twists and turns beautifully, Ann brings a more delicate and sweet touch to this piece, channeling the charm, social and imaginative qualities often associated with this star sign. Written in the key of Bb minor, Ann cycles smoothly through perfect 5ths in the bass lending a dance-like quality to the overall mood with the melody gracefully moving above the harmonic foundation.

  1. CANCER “The Caregiver”

To begin the summer solstice, the fourth sign of the zodiac, CANCER (nicknamed “The Caregiver”)

sees Ann bring warmer and brighter melodies to the fore with this piece featuring the pop sensibilities often associated with his more uplifting compositions. Written in the key of Eb major, a key often associated with love, Ann echoes the nurturing and compassionate tendencies of this star sign with a motif that focuses on the major 3rd interval, a sound that evokes a feeling of positivity and security. Ann breaks the mould harmonically through the use of the non-diatonic bVI with it acting as a moment of bliss and empathy reaffirming the strong altruistic characteristics of this sign especially in relation to humans and their emotions.

  1. LEO “The Fierce”

The fifth sign of the zodiac, LEO (nicknamed “The Fierce”) opens in a subdued manner with a set of held chords pensively setting the mood. Known to many as the lion, Ann compositionally displays the regal and grand nature of this star sign through a piece that ebbs and flows with confidence. Written in the key of G minor, Ann cycles through a 4 chord sequence with the main motif falling offbeat in response to the left hand. The piece continues to build in layers climaxing through a brilliant passage that passes through a circle of 5ths in a way that seeks to showcase the admiration and strength of this sign. The composition draws to a close in bookend fashion with the dynamic returning to its opening meditative state just like a lion sitting proud and strong.

  1. VIRGO “The Perfectionist”

With the sixth sign of the zodiac, VIRGO (nicknamed “The Perfectionist), Ann builds his composition around a cascading motif that rises and falls from a pedal that seeks to express the traits of a perfectionist trying to achieve their goals in a flawless manner. Written in the key of G# minor, Ann’s performance is expressive and richly dynamic with the piece’s repetition of the central theme effectively portraying the industrious and practical nature of this star sign.

  1. LIBRA “The Flirtatious”

With the beginning of the Autumn Equinox, Ann opens the new season in triple time with the seventh sign of the zodiac LIBRA (nicknamed “The Flirtatious”). The decision to compose a waltz is an apt choice with the traits of this sign known to be outgoing, friendly and charming. Written in the key of Gb major, the melodies twist and turn gracefully with a B section briefly exploring the relative minor. Ann, beautifully resolves back to the home key with a falling dominant seventh arpeggio that reflects the balanced and peaceful qualities of this sign.

  1. SCORPIO “The Mysterious”

With the eighth sign of the zodiac, SCORPIO (nicknamed “The Mysterious”) continues where he left off with another piece in ¾ time. Opening with a lilting pattern that moves stepwise down to a major seventh chord, Ann effectively introduces the feeling of mystery and wonder. Written in the key of B minor, a key often associated with patience and solitude, Ann’s performance is poignant and intentional, showcasing the deep-thinking nature of this star sign.

  1. SAGITTARIUS “The Optimist”

The ninth sign of the zodiac, SAGITTARIUS (nicknamed “The Optimist”) is often known for its idealistic and adventurous sensibilities. Opening with a descending triplet motif Ann seeks to explore the adventure and optimism of this star sign with bold melodic themes that represent the free-spirited personalities found in this zodiac. Written in the key of E minor, this piece exudes positivity and a sense of discovery with Ann using thematic writing and fast-moving bass lines effectively to describe these traits through his performance.

  1. CAPRICORN “The Ambitious”

The tenth sign of the zodiac, CAPRICORN (nicknamed “The Ambitious”) and the beginning of the Winter Equinox sees Ann open his piece with a feeling of wonder and focus. A triadic triplet minor figuration begins in the right hand before being mirrored in an inverted pattern in the left. The two hands work in parallel throughout much of the piece to create a sense of determination and persistence, like an architect methodically planning a design with his use of rubato a lovely choice

in reflecting the growth of achieving a goal or target. Written in the key of F# minor, a tonality often associated with overcoming challenges, Ann weaves his intricate melodic themes with deliberation and a relentless energy reflecting the pragmatism of this star sign.

  1. AQUARIUS “The Explorer”

The eleventh sign of the zodiac, AQUARIUS (nicknamed “The Explorer”) starts with an intimate triadic motif in triple time that unfolds and evolves as the piece grows, reflective of the star sign’s progressive and innovative traits. Like a flower, the composition blossoms with every passing note. Like the water- bearer symbol, Ann’s performance flows throughout with the key of F minor bringing a delicacy and finesse to the overall mood. Towards the end of the piece the main theme is reprised beautifully in octaves with Ann taking us on a musical exploration of his own with the sonic development matching the intelligent and creative tendencies of this star sign. The piece draws to a close with a rich and grand arpeggio that leaves the listener filled with wonder and inspiration.

  1. PISCES “The Artist”

With the last sign of the zodiac, PISCES (nicknamed “The Artist”), Ann brings the project a full 360° in spectacular style with a piece that feels very fitting for what is one of the most creative and imaginative star signs. The left hand accompaniment skips along briskly just like a fish swimming through water with the use of the iv minor chord cadence a fitting way to bring closure to the astrological musical journey Ann takes us on throughout this album. Written in the key of E major, Ann brings a bright and joyous finale to the project with the melodic nature of this piece leaving the listener with a sense of romanticism and compassion, two traits often associated with this star sign.

Following stints at both Cleveland Institute of Music and Berklee College of Music, the classically trained solo pianist has consistently unveiled viral content at a prolific pace. His online imprint consists of nearly 6 million total followers, while he has generated several billion total views. Along the way, he has instituted fan favorite series such as “play that word” where viewers suggest words, and he crafts his own original compositions with letters on the keyboards.

A virtuoso by trade, Tony Ann is a solo pianist with big ideas. He fuses the styles of both the new and the old to breathtaking effect. As a self-proclaimed harmony connoisseur, Ann is always thinking of ways to not only push the boundaries of neoclassical and instrumental music but also popular music. While Ann may be limited to music without words he successfully uses all eighty eight keys to his advantage with original compositions steeped in emotion, technique and range.

Away from his solo work, Tony loves collaboration in which he has released tracks with Don Diablo, Wrabel and L.Dre showing his musical elasticity and willingness to immerse himself into different genres such as EDM, Lofi and Pop.

In addition, Ann has enjoyed working with The Chainsmokers, having a hand in co-writing both the platinum US singles ‘Sick Boy’ and ‘Call You Mine (feat. Bebe Rexha)’ as well as the gold US single ’Side Effects (feat. Emily Warren)’. Ann also had the pleasure of touring with them as their official keyboardist for their “Memories: Do Not Open” North American arena tour which also included performances on SNL and Good Morning America.

Secret Garden Celebrates 30th Anniversary of Debut Album ‘Songs from a Secret Garden’

0

The Norwegian-Irish duo Secret Garden, consisting of Rolf Løvland and violinist Fionnuala Sherry, proudly announces the 30th anniversary of their debut album, “Songs from a Secret Garden”. Originally released in 1995, the album put the duo on the international map with its unique combination of classical and folk music in instrumental and vocal settings, and special blend of Celtic-Norwegian emotion and energy. The album features the iconic song ‘Nocturne’, which secured Norway´s victory in the Eurovision Song Contest in May of that same year.

To celebrate the anniversary, the album will be remastered and re-released on special digital, vinyl and CD editions. The global launch is scheduled for the 15th of May 2025, exactly 30 years after the original release and the historic Eurovision victory. The special edition includes a remastered version of ‘Nocturne’ which will be released around Norway’s annual music competition, Melodi Grand Prix, on February 14th.

Secret Garden has achieved remarkable success over three decades with over three billion streams and five million album sales, and successful tours in many countries across the world. The duo has 113 platinum awards to their name from multiple global territories, and their music is frequently used on platforms like TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, where their songs enjoy billions of views.

2025 also marks composer Rolf Løvland’s 70th birthday, celebrating his impressive career as one of Norway’s greatest living musical exports. Løvland stands behind two Eurovision victories (‘La det swinge’ with Bobbysocks in 1985 and ‘Nocturne’ in 1995), and the worldwide success of his song ‘You Raise Me Up’ – which has been recorded by over 1000 artists and is one of the most-covered songs in modern music history – is an important part of his and Secret Garden’s legacy. It is often referred to as “one of the songs of the century.”

The celebration of Secret Garden’s 30th anniversary includes:

  • A remastered special edition of ‘Songs from a Secret Garden’
  • Re-release of ‘Nocturne’ around the anniversary of Melodi Grand Prix victory on February 14th, 2025.
  • Global release of the album in exclusive vinyl and CD formats.

Rolf Løvland and Fionnuala Sherry look forward to inviting old and new fans to relive the magic of their timeless music in 2025, a year that marks a milestone in the duos exceptional career.

Canadian Hip-Hop Legend k-os Unveils Anniversary Reissue ‘BLack on BLonde+’

0

Canadian hip-hop pioneer k-os unveils the 2025 anniversary reissue of his 2013 BLack on BLonde, a groundbreaking double album. BLack on BLonde+ remains a unique fusion of rock anthems and classic hip-hop beats, and its title—a nod to Bob Dylan’s Blonde on Blonde—reflects the album’s diverse and genre-defying essence.

“5th album forced me into the 5th dimension. Feels like the first 4 records were just the research I needed to invoke BLack On BLonde. Dimension 5 is an echelon of measure that’s curved in on itself ever so tightly. Somewhere in the midst of making the album I felt that internal curve happen to me. When I discovered due to a meta error that BLack On BLonde was not released anywhere else in the world aside from Canada and the U.S. I listened to it again, like for the first time, like a first time listener.  It held up real good, and the sonic journey was a mind bending experience! So here it is, just ICYMI it, BLack On BLonde+ an unearthed, ambiguous, meta error”  says k-os.

The reissue not only honors the original album but also introduces a brand-new track, “Pocket Dial,” adding an exciting new dimension to this already disruptive work. It unveils fresh insights, such as the iconic influence of Neil Young, whose sound is sampled on the track “Play This Game.”

Originally recorded at Hayden Christensen’s deserted Laurel Canyon mansion, BLack on BLonde holds an important place in Canadian music history as k-os became the first Canadian hip-hop artist to release a double album. With its fusion of rock and old-school hip-hop, this project shattered expectations and set the stage for future genre-blending artists, including Drake, who has cited k-os as a key inspiration for his Scorpion album.

BLack on BLonde features exciting collaborations from a varied array of guests, including Black Thought (The Roots), Travie McCoy (Gym Class Heroes), Emily Haines (Metric), Sebastien Grainger (Death From Above 1979), Juno Award-winning Canadian rock singer/songwriter Sam Roberts and many others.  Always innovative, provocative, and fearless, k-os showcases said versatility by singing and playing drums, guitar and bass throughout the album.

k-os (“chaos”) is the stage name for Canadian alternative rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer Kevin Brereton.  k-os debut album, Exit released in 2002 and received positive reviews and critical acclaim. He has never been afraid to shake things up and experiment with different genres. In 2003, k-os collaborated with The Chemical Brothers on their single “Get Yourself High,” which was nominated for ‘Best Dance Recording’ at the 2005 Grammy Awards.  Joyful Rebellion, the Platinum-certified second album that won three Juno Awards, was released in 2004 and featured a total of six singles, including the international hit “Crabbuckit”, which won ‘Best Pop Video’ at the annual MuchMusic Video Awards, along with ‘Best Songwriter’ and ‘Fan Choice Award’ at the 2005 Canadian Urban Music Awards.  His follow-up album, Atlantis, shipped Platinum, making k-os the first Black hip-hop artist ever to do so. From 1996 to 2016, k-os was the third best-selling Canadian hip-hop artist in Canada. He went on to release Yes! (2009), Black on Blonde (2013), and Can’t Fly Without Gravity (2015), and is currently working on a new studio album, Everyone In Your Dream Is You, executive produced by GRAMMY-winning artist Drake, due out later this year.

TSX Overview 2025: Market Trends, Stocks to Watch, Strategies, and More

0

By Mitch Rice

The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) remains one of the most influential stock markets in North America and a critical player in the global financial ecosystem. As we move into 2025, the TSX presents investors with a mix of opportunities and challenges. Economic conditions, monetary policy, commodity prices, and global market trends all play a role in shaping the outlook for Canadian stocks. This article will provide a comprehensive overview of the TSX in 2025, covering key trends, stocks to watch, investment strategies, and insights into market movements.

TSX Market Overview 2025

The TSX has historically been known for its strong presence in the energy, mining, and financial sectors. As 2025 unfolds, macroeconomic factors such as inflation control measures, interest rate policies by the Bank of Canada, and shifts in global trade policies will significantly influence the market. The past few years have been marked by volatility, but with stabilizing conditions, investors are looking at the TSX for growth opportunities.

One of the biggest trends shaping the TSX in 2025 is the ongoing energy transition. Canada, rich in natural resources, has seen significant investment in green energy while traditional oil and gas companies remain strong. The mining sector, particularly lithium, copper, and gold, continues to attract interest due to the growing demand for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage solutions. Meanwhile, financial stocks remain robust as the banking sector benefits from higher interest rates and a recovering economy.

Technology stocks on the TSX have also been gaining ground. Although traditionally lagging behind the Nasdaq in terms of tech dominance, Canadian companies specializing in AI, cybersecurity, and fintech have started to show promising growth. The global semiconductor boom and increasing digital adoption across industries have further fueled interest in Canadian tech stocks.

Stocks to Watch on the TSX in 2025

With multiple sectors showing potential, investors are keen on identifying the best stocks to watch. Some of the most promising companies include those in the energy, technology, financial, and materials sectors.

Energy stocks such as Enbridge (ENB) and Suncor Energy (SU) continue to be major players. Enbridge, known for its extensive pipeline infrastructure, remains an attractive option for income-focused investors due to its stable dividends. Suncor, with its integrated energy operations, has been benefiting from strong oil prices and cost-cutting measures.

In the mining and materials sector, Barrick Gold (ABX) and Teck Resources (TECK.B) stand out. With growing global uncertainties and rising inflation, gold remains a key asset class for investors looking for stability. Barrick Gold’s international operations and strong balance sheet make it a top choice. Teck Resources, on the other hand, is well-positioned to benefit from increased demand for base metals like copper and zinc, which are essential for electric vehicle production.

Among financial stocks, Royal Bank of Canada (RY) and Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD) continue to dominate. Canadian banks have historically been among the most stable in the world, and with high interest rates contributing to stronger net interest margins, these banks remain solid picks for long-term investors.

In the tech sector, Shopify (SHOP) and Lightspeed Commerce (LSPD) are expected to be in the spotlight. Shopify, one of Canada’s largest tech companies, continues to expand its e-commerce dominance, while Lightspeed’s point-of-sale solutions are gaining traction among businesses globally. The recent emphasis on AI-powered solutions has also brought attention to Canadian AI firms such as Kinaxis (KXS) and BlackBerry (BB), which are making strides in supply chain optimization and cybersecurity, respectively.

For investors seeking high liquidity stocks, TSX most active stocks today include a mix of energy, financial, and tech companies, reflecting strong trading volumes and investor interest.

Investment Strategies for the TSX in 2025

Navigating the TSX successfully in 2025 requires a well-planned investment strategy. Given the market’s current landscape, a mix of value investing, growth stock selection, and dividend investing can help maximize returns while managing risks.

For investors focusing on value stocks, sectors such as financials and energy provide opportunities to acquire stocks at reasonable valuations. Companies with strong cash flows and consistent earnings growth, like Canada’s major banks and pipeline companies, are excellent candidates. These stocks tend to perform well in an environment where interest rates remain elevated.

Growth investors should look toward technology and materials. The increasing adoption of AI and automation, along with advancements in clean energy, make Canadian tech companies attractive. Additionally, with demand for critical minerals rising, mining stocks with exposure to lithium, copper, and nickel are poised for significant growth.

Dividend investing remains a popular strategy for those looking for stable returns. Many TSX-listed companies offer attractive dividend yields, particularly in sectors such as utilities, telecommunications, and energy. Fortis (FTS) and BCE Inc. (BCE) are among the best dividend stocks, known for their consistent payouts and defensive nature.

Macroeconomic Factors Influencing the TSX

Several macroeconomic factors will determine how the TSX performs in 2025. The Bank of Canada’s monetary policy will be one of the most critical aspects. If inflation remains persistent, interest rates may stay high, benefiting financial stocks but potentially putting pressure on high-growth sectors.

Commodity prices will also play a key role. Oil and gas stocks have performed well in recent years, but if demand weakens due to a global economic slowdown, energy stocks may face headwinds. Conversely, if geopolitical tensions or supply chain disruptions impact commodity supplies, prices could surge, benefiting Canadian resource companies.

The performance of the U.S. economy and its impact on trade relations with Canada will also be a determining factor. Canada’s economy is closely tied to that of its southern neighbor, and any shifts in U.S. fiscal policy, trade agreements, or interest rates can have a direct impact on Canadian markets.

TSX Trading Hours and Market Accessibility

Understanding TSX trading hours is essential for investors looking to capitalize on market movements. The Toronto Stock Exchange operates from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM Eastern Time, with an opening auction period from 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM and a post-market session running until 5:00 PM. Extended trading hours allow for additional flexibility, particularly for institutional investors who seek to react to after-hours news and earnings reports.

For international investors, accessibility to TSX stocks has improved significantly. Online brokerage platforms have made it easier to trade Canadian stocks, and ETFs tracking the TSX index provide exposure to the broader market without the need to purchase individual stocks.

Final Thoughts on the TSX in 2025

The Toronto Stock Exchange remains a crucial player in the global financial landscape, offering diverse investment opportunities across various sectors. In 2025, energy, materials, financials, and technology stocks are expected to drive market performance. Investors should stay informed about macroeconomic trends, monetary policy decisions, and global commodity prices to navigate the market effectively.

A combination of growth and value investing, along with a focus on dividend-paying stocks, can help create a resilient portfolio. With an understanding of TSX most active stocks today, traders can identify high-liquidity opportunities, while long-term investors can capitalize on companies with strong fundamentals.

As the economic landscape continues to evolve, keeping an eye on the TSX’s performance, sectoral shifts, and emerging trends will be key to making informed investment decisions in 2025 and beyond.

Fast-Rising Singer Songwriter SIENNA SPIRO Releases Debut EP ‘SINK NOW, SWIM LATER’

0

Today marks the release of SINK NOW, SWIM LATER — the debut EP from 19-year-old singer/songwriter SIENNA SPIRO. Out now via Capitol Records, the EP features eight songs built on SIENNA’s breathtaking vocals and raw yet cinematic storytelling.

Made with producers like J Moon (Miley Cyrus, Dua Lipa), Yakob (SZA, Lauv), Sol Was (SG Lewis, Beyoncé), Max Wolfgang (Sia, Kelly Clarkson) and Fred Ball (Rihanna, Jessie Ware), SINK NOW, SWIM LATER is divided into two distinct sides, ‘SINK’ and ‘SWIM’ —each capturing a spectrum of emotions from love and longing to fantasy and confusion, to grief and self-denial to transformation — ultimately bringing us to the final point of an emotional revival that represents an intensely personal body of work which SIENNA has cultivated since the age of 16.

“MAYBE.” — a breakout fan favorite that has propelled the London-based artist into the spotlight topping four viral Spotify charts across the globe, amassing 515 million views on TikTok and over 48 million streams to date— serves as the centerpiece and marks an essential turning point in the EP’s narrative.  The tracks unfolds as a pained but empowered ballad that SIENNA sums up as “a song about realizing your worth and finally seeing who somebody truly is after being in the dark for so long.”

In a departure from the elegantly timeless, piano-driven soundscape of “MAYBE.,” SIENNA’s new single “ORIGAMI” (produced by Fred Ball,) encompasses a gently inventive arrangement of shadowy beats, surreal textures, and gorgeously strange vocal effects. An intimate portrait of obsession, the hypnotic track tells the tale of longing for someone who doesn’t even know you exist, striking a rare balance of yearning and determination (from the second verse: “I found a new religion/You’re the only mission.”)

SINK NOW, SWIM LATER arrives as SIENNA continues her steady rise to music stardom — a journey that recently found her garnering over 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify, a tremendous milestone for an artist with only five songs out at the time. Recently featured on Stereogum’s “Artist To Watch: The Sound of 2025,” and the coveted “10 Musicians To Watch in 2025” list from Dazed (who hailed her voice as “huge enough to rival all the pop greats”), the EP also includes “BACK TO BLONDE” (a gloriously fierce ballad that landed her on Pigeons & Planes’ round-up of “10 New Artists You Should Listen To This Week,”) “BUTTERFLY EFFECT,” “TAXI DRIVER,” and her debut single “NEED ME.”  See below for the full tracklist.

A DIY-minded artist who first started penning songs when she was only 10, SIENNA earned a massive online following before ever sharing her original music, thanks in part to her powerhouse cover of Donald Glover’s “Redbone,” which has racked up over 6 million views on TikTok alone. With her longtime influences including Frank Ocean, Etta James, Frank Sinatra, and Amy Winehouse, she soon began integrating jazz elements into her music while gently leaning toward a more contemporary sonic aesthetic. Since debuting in May 2024 with “NEED ME,” SIENNA has made an extraordinary impact in less than a year, instantly capturing the attention of all the right ears and prompting early co-signs from superstars like SZA, Snoh Aalegra, The-Dream, Mark Ronson, FINNEAS, and more.

Carlos Santana Announces New Album ‘Sentient’ and 2025 Oneness Tour

0

Multi-Grammy Award-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist Carlos Santana has announced that his passion-filled retrospective album, Sentient, will be released via Candid Records on March 28. The album is available for pre-order now. The record’s heavenly, soulful first single – a “Sentient version” of Smokey Robinson’s “Please Don’t Take Your Love” – is out now.

Sentient is composed of 11 dazzling tracks – three of them previously unreleased – compiled by the virtuoso guitarist, remastered and sequenced in a way that allows a new and dramatic story to emerge. As is often the case when the spark of musical magic strikes, Santana was surprised, delighted and receptive. “I’m always driven by passion, emotion and inner instinct,” he says. “When I first heard these tracks floating around in the house, I said, ‘Why don’t we put these all in one place?’”

The songs that make up Sentient are complex compositionally, but they float by like a dream. There are brilliant collaborations with Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Miles Davis, Paolo Rustichelli, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels and Cindy Blackman Santana, but no matter the mood or genre – whether it’s lush pop or high-intensity cosmic jazz – it’s all part of a common thread. As Santana says, “From Stravinsky to James Brown, it’s all the same song, meaning it’s all connected to the umbilical cord of humanity and planet Earth.”

The album’s first single offers listeners a new view of “Please Don’t Take Your Love,” the heavenly slice of funky, soulful seduction that paired Santana with the incomparable Smokey Robinson. The original version, featured on Robinson’s 2009 album, Time Flies When You’re Having Fun, saw Santana contrast Robinson’s shimmering vibrato with searing, soul-shaking soloing. The alternate take on Sentient is no less emotionally wrenching, but as Santana notes, it boasts a never-before-heard guitar performance. “I went to the studio and did my own thing. I said, ‘Let’s just roll it.’ I did another take with Smokey sort of guiding me. Smokey loved them both, so he wound up combining the two. What’s on Sentient is the first version.”

March 14th will see the debut release of a live instrumental cover of Michael Jackson’s haunting ballad “Stranger in Moscow,” recorded in 2007 with producer and drummer Narada Michael Walden’s band. It’s a devastating masterclass performance – Santana’s guitar playing is by turns soulful and poetic, blitzing and blinding, and always breathtakingly imaginative.

“Narada knew that I loved the song, so he arranged it with his band,” Santana remembers. “I showed up and we played it with no rehearsal. I’m basically singing it with my guitar. I’m visualizing Michael Jackson and what he would do – I got pretty close. I think when Michael listened to it, wherever he is, he smiled and said, ‘Yeah, that’s it.’”

“Get On,” a jazz-groove masterpiece from renowned composer Paolo Rustichelli’s lauded 1996 album Mystic Man, featuring the extraordinary collaboration of Santana with the iconic Miles Davis, will be officially released to radio for the first time on March 17.

Exceleration Music partner and Grammy-winning music executive John Burk, known for his work with legendary artists, shared his excitement about the project, “Santana has always been a trailblazer in music, combining musical styles and cultures in ways that have forever changed the face of music. This amazing collection demonstrates his unique ability to transcend genres and lift our spirits through his music. It also highlights collaborations with a diverse lineup of musical trailblazers—including Michael Jackson, Miles Davis, Smokey Robinson, and DMC – each, like Carlos, an iconic innovator, united on this album by the musicality, spirit, and passion of Carlos Santana at his finest.”

For over 130 years, Gibson has shaped sound across generations and genres of music, becoming one of the most relevant, played, and loved guitar brands around the world. Gibson Custom is proud to unveil its next global release in homage to two of the most legendary, successful, and respected guitarists of all time, Eric Clapton and Albert Lee. Introducing the Eric Clapton 1958 Les Paul Custom, a piece of music history that’s directly associated with two of the world’s foremost guitarists. The guitar comes with a second pickguard, hand-signed by both Eric Clapton and Albert Lee and presented in a collectible wooden display case. The Gibson Custom Eric Clapton 1958 Les Paul Custom is available now for early access via Guitar Center, the Gibson Garage Nashville and London, and on Gibson.com. It will be available worldwide at authorized, premium Gibson dealers starting on February 25.

Performing with the Yardbirds, John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek & The Dominos, Delaney & Bonnie, and as a solo artist, Eric Clapton has inspired countless players. Clapton has won 18 GRAMMY Awards, received the Brit Award for “Outstanding Contribution to Music,” four Ivor Novello Awards from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors, including a Lifetime Achievement Award, and was awarded a CBE for services to music. He is the only three-time inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a solo artist and as a member of the Yardbirds and Cream. He has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling musicians of all time. He is the co-founder and a patron of the Crossroads Centre, a substance abuse rehabilitation facility on Antigua that has helped countless people overcome substance abuse.

During Cream’s first American tour, Eric purchased a three-pickup 1958 Les Paul Custom, serial number 8 6320, which he used on Disraeli Gears, multiple tours, including with Delaney & Bonnie, and on and off throughout the rest of the 1960s and 70s. In 1979, he gifted the guitar to fellow legendary guitarist Albert Lee, who continues to be inspired by it and uses it to this day. Now, Gibson Custom is proud to introduce the Eric Clapton 1958 Les Paul Custom, a loving tribute to Clapton’s original Cream-era 1958 Les Paul Custom. This special limited run uses ultra-precise Murphy Lab aging techniques to aid in handcrafting a reproduction of this legendary guitar. Every detail has been thoughtfully crafted, from the exact playing wear to the sonic character. It features a hand-selected, ultra-lightweight, one-piece, all-mahogany body, a mahogany neck with an ebony fretboard with Custom mother-of-pearl block inlays and 22 historic medium jumbo frets, and the same neck profile as the original guitar. The hardware is aged gold, including the Grover tuners, ABR-1 bridge, Stop Bar tailpiece, and pickup covers. The three pickups are unpotted Custombuckers, with the middle pickup mounted with the screws oriented towards the neck, just as they are on the original guitar. The volume and tone controls use CTS 500k audio taper potentiometers that are hand-wired to paper-in-oil capacitors, while the Murphy Lab aging simulates the exact aging and wear patterns that Eric and Albert created.

Primus Launches The New Drummer Audition Video Series and Announces Tour Dates

After an extensive search to find a new drummer, Primus is pulling back the curtain on their unique audition process with the launch of the “Primus Interstellar Drum Derby,” a brand-new episodic YouTube series chronicling the entire journey. The first episode, released today, features drummer Rory Dolan jamming with Les Claypool and Larry LaLonde, providing an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the dynamic and demanding audition process.

The band put out a global open call for submissions, attracting some of the world’s most talented drummers. “Taking submissions from all points in the universe for the position of Primus drummer/percussionist,” the band wrote, adding, “Flashy chops are wonderful, but groove, pocket, and the ability to listen, react, and contribute to the musical conversation is a must.”

As the process unfolded, Primus documented each audition, capturing the exciting and unexpected moments that unfolded in the studio. Future episodes will feature performances from a stellar lineup of drummers, including Thomas Pridgen, Mike Stone, Stan Bicknell, Sam Groveman, Nikki Glaspie, John Hoffman, Gergo Borlai, and Thomas Lang, as well as surprise cameos from special guests.

“The Primus Interstellar Drum Derby” gives fans an unprecedented look at the band’s inner workings, their approach to chemistry and collaboration, and what it takes to step behind the kit for one of rock’s most innovative trios. With each episode, the series will build anticipation and excitement as the band moves toward its next chapter.

“Luck is when preparation meets opportunity,” said John Hoffman, who was ultimately selected as Primus’ new drummer. “I came and did my thing the way I do it. It went as well as I could have hoped.”

The debut episode is now live on Primus’ official YouTube channel, with new episodes rolling out soon.

Primus will kick off their first live performance of 2025 at Tool’s Live in the Sand in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, where Danny Carey (Tool) will be sitting in on drums. The band will then hit the road for the second leg of the Sessanta Tour, a highly anticipated run featuring Puscifer and A Perfect Circle in celebration of Maynard James Keenan’s 60(ish) birthday.
