Gibson Partners with Johnny Marr to Create 20 Gibson ’84 Les Paul Standard Guitars

In celebration of Gibson Garage Fest, a series of events commemorating the one-year anniversary of the Gibson Garage London, Gibson has partnered with the world-renowned musician Johnny Marr to release 20 hand-signed Gibson Les Paul guitars for charity, based on the iconic Les Paul Standard he played in The Smiths.

The Gibson ’84 Les Paul Standard with Bigsby signed by Johnny Marr will be available exclusively at the Gibson Garage London starting at 11 am on Friday, February 21, until they are sold out. All profits from the sale of the instruments will be donated by Johnny Marr and Gibson to support the Teenage Cancer Trust.

These Made to Measure guitars are inspired by Johnny Marr’s Les Paul Standard from 1984, first played by Marr during the recording of The Smiths’ iconic second album, Meat is Murder. The model became Johnny’s go-to guitar and was used extensively in both live performances and recording sessions with The Smiths, as well as during his time as a member of The The, The Pretenders, The Cribs, as well as his work with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

Marr says: “These guitars are a faithful reproduction of my beloved 1984 Gibson Les Paul, bought in Manchester back in the day. It’s the guitar I’ve kept and used since that time on loads of different records, so I was beyond delighted to see it recreated in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust. It’s an amazing organization that I’ve had an association with for about ten years. It’s a privilege to be involved in this good cause and I’m very glad to be affiliated with it, especially when it involves making a fantastic Les Paul.”

Alongside the hand-signed Johnny Marr guitars, an exclusive collaborative range of Teenage Cancer Trust and Gibson merchandise will also be available. Limited edition t-shirts, hoodies, and caps featuring a newly created design by Jamie Hewlett to celebrate the 25th year of Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall will be available at the Gibson Garage London, Gibson.com, and shop.teenagecancertrust.org—with proceeds from each item sold donated directly to Teenage Cancer Trust.

Costello specifically wanted the organ to sound “thin” and “evil.” Using a deliberately out-of-tune Vox Continental, Nieve crafted a sound that was sharp, unsettling, and unlike anything else in punk or new wave at the time. The eerie, jagged tones added a layer of paranoia and urgency to tracks like Pump It Up and Lipstick Vogue. That unmistakable keyboard sound became a signature of the Attractions and a defining element of the album’s claustrophobic tension.

5. The Album Almost Didn’t Include One of Its Best Songs

American fans of This Year’s Model might not realize they got a different version than the UK audience. The original UK release included the politically charged Night Rally and Chelsea, but when the album was issued in the U.S., Columbia Records insisted on swapping them out for Radio Radio, a song Costello famously performed on Saturday Night Live in 1977 in direct defiance of NBC’s producers. The move ultimately worked in Costello’s favor—Radio Radio became one of his most celebrated songs. However, die-hard fans argue that removing Night Rally altered the album’s dark undertones, making the American version just a little less sinister.

This Year’s Model is a snarling, spitting, meticulously crafted masterpiece that changed the landscape of music forever. With its off-kilter artwork, satirical songwriting, haunted origins, and groundbreaking sound, it continues to resonate decades later. Elvis Costello didn’t just make an album—he built a time bomb, and 46 years later, it’s still ticking.

Gearing up for what promises to be an unforgettable creative season, GRAMMY-nominated global Afrobeats popstar Ayra Starr shares a new single entitled “All The Love” out now. It notably marks her first release of 2025 and sets the stage for more to come soon.

Natural percussion sets the tempo for the track. Ayra Starr transfixes with a fluid cadence, alternately leaning into the beat and flaunting her range during the anthemic chorus. News: Fvded In The Park Unveils 2025 Lineup – Tïesto, Zedd, Kaytranada, Disclosure, Subtronics & More Take Over Holland Park July 4 & July 5, 2025

Today, Blueprint Events and Live Nation Canada announce the return of one of western Canada’s largest music festivals, FVDED In The Park. Following the massive success of last year’s sold-out weekend, FVDED is once again returning to Surrey’s Holland Park. Set to take place on July 4 and July 5, this year’s festival promises an unparalleled celebration of electronic music with a world-class roster of artists. The festival continues to grow as the artist offerings increase to 60 slots, coming up from 48 last year, plus the addition of a fourth brand new stage.

The 2025 edition will include signature performances from massive global acts including Tiësto and Zedd. Joining them are some of the biggest names across House, Dubstep, Amapiano, Trap and more including Kaytranada, Disclosure, Subtronics, Sammy Virji, RL Grime, HUGEL and Uncle Waffles. As a cultural reference for top tier festival experiences and a staple in Canada’s electronic scene, the FVDED community will once again be treated to the dance party of the summer.
