Erasure’s Andy Bell Announces New Solo Album Ten Crowns and Releases “Don’t Cha Know” Video

0

Andy Bell has detailed a new solo album, Ten Crowns, which will be released on 2 May 2025 on vinyl (white, oxblood, and picture disc available), CD (standard and 2CD versions), gold cassette, and digitally via Crown Recordings. Today, Bell shares a new single, ‘Don’t Cha Know’.

The new album will coincide with a UK tour—full details below—beginning on 1 May in York, continuing to Cambridge on 19 May, with a London show at Shepherd’s Bush Empire on 16 May, followed by a run of European dates.

‘Don’t Cha Know’ was one of the first tracks to be written for the album, and, according to Andy, it marks “the beginning of the expedition” that would become Ten Crowns. Hinting at the emotional journey Andy has been on – “It’s so very hard to say hello / When your whole world comes crashing down,” – the moving track is accompanied by a stunning video by Stephano Barberis.

The new album is the result of Andy embracing a milestone in his life: Ten Crowns – 10 tracks of dazzling, joyous pop, produced and polished in Nashville, inspired by the dancefloor and gospel – was completed in the year he turned 60 and marks a majestic moment in his career.

No stranger to collaboration – his four decades of writing and recording with Vince Clarke as Erasure are still going strong – Bell threw himself into writing with close friend Dave Audé, the Grammy award-winning producer, remixer and DJ. Their work together is euphoric, and to top the celebrations, they invited Andy’s ultimate pop heroine, Debbie Harry, to join Andy on vocals for ‘Hearts A Liar’.

The new single follows the cosmic flash of ‘Breaking Thru The Interstellar’, where Andy dances us “towards another paradise… ready for a new dimension / On our galactic journey”. Inspired by his love of reading BBC science magazines and the possible existence of wormholes that allow travel through space, he explains, “It’s on first because I wanted to let people know we’re going to go for a ride now!”

Andy and Dave had previously collaborated on two US dance chart number ones together: 2014’s ‘Aftermath (Here We Go)’ and 2016’s ‘True Original’, and after those dance tracks, the pair “just kind of carried on writing as an exercise”, Andy explains, “and after that, Dave moved his family to Nashville because LA was so expensive, and so our writing took this kind of gospel-tinged Nashville twist.”

He describes how in Nashville there’s a church on every corner (“it reminded me of singing in choirs and cathedral school as a child, where the spirit of the church is imbued in the music”). Not that Ten Crowns is a sombre, spiritual set. It’s propulsive, electronic, passionate, driven by the need to encounter new emotions and experiences as life races on. “I mean, I’ve got everything I could possibly wish for, you know, I really have, but that’s not to say I’m always fulfilled,” Andy adds. “This album’s about picking yourself up, dusting yourself off, embracing life – and about taking that feeling on even when you’re fighting demons in the world, like homophobia, and fighting demons in yourself. It’s about being celebratory and uplifting.”

Ten Crowns marks a magisterial moment in Andy Bell’s forty-year career. His joy about what that holds, and where it can go, clearly excites him. “It’s my third (sort of) solo record [following 2005’s Electric Blue and 2010’s Non-Stop] and in Erasure, our third album was our most successful out of all that we’ve done, so I’m taking that spirit with me!”

Travelling into new dimensions and possibilities with gospel in the heart and dancing in the soul clearly suits him. Ten Crowns is Andy Bell imperial, gleaming, ready for his coronation.

Dropkick Murphys and Bad Religion Announce Co-Headlining ‘Summer Of Discontent’ Tour 2025

0

Dropkick Murphys and Bad Religion will be co-headlining for the first time during their U.S. Summer Of Discontent Tour with openers The Mainliners from July 22 through August 17.

Dropkick Murphys vocalist and founder Ken Casey said, “We are so fired up to spend the summer with these legends. We plan to give people a great night out when we hit their town. Gonna be a blast!!” Tim Brennan from Dropkick Murphys said, “Being able to tour with Bad Religion is such an exciting thing for us. It’s not everyday we get to rub elbows with a band that has that kind of legendary status and we are over the moon to hit the road with them.”

Bad Religion singer Greg Graffin said, “Bringing together our two bands and our respective audiences should create an event of epic proportions. But most importantly, I look forward to the community of camaraderie and togetherness we will share with such talented fellow musicians and punk fans across the Nation. I can’t wait!” Bad Religion’s bassist Jay Bentley added, “You know, this has been a long time coming. We’ve shared the stage at plenty of festivals with Kenny and the guys, and I am genuinely excited to hit the road with the Dropkicks, finally. Their energy is infectious, and I’m looking forward to spending the summer with them. I think it’s going to be a blast for us and our fans.”

During the summer tour-which follows Dropkick Murphys’ annual St. Patrick’s Day Tour–fans will have the chance to hear Dropkick Murphys’ classics, along with their current single “Sirens” – and possibly other new songs from their next album, which will be released via the band’s Dummy Luck Music / [PIAS] later this year. Fueled by an infectious, hard-hitting guitar riff and frontman Ken Casey’s raw, intense, and commanding vocals, “Sirens” is a rallying cry for unity, urging fans to rise against those who exploit the working class. Dropkick Murphys are: Ken Casey (lead vocals), Tim Brennan (guitars, tin whistle, accordion, piano, vocals), Jeff DaRosa (guitars, banjo, mandolin, vocals), Matt Kelly (drums, percussion, and vocals), James Lynch (guitars and vocals), and Kevin Rheault (bass). Joining the band for their live shows is bagpiper and multi-instrumentalist Campbell Webster.

You can expect Bad Religion to celebrate their diverse catalog on this tour. Concertgoers can look forward to a mix of iconic songs and beloved classics, highlighting their significant influence on the punk scene. At the same time, Bad Religion is working on a new album, and this tour is likely to energize their creativity, drawing inspiration from the lively interactions with their audience. The current lineup, recognized as one of the strongest in the band’s history, features Greg Graffin (vocals), Jay Bentley (bass), Brian Baker (guitar since ’94), Mike Dimkich (guitar), and Jamie Miller (drums). With 17 studio albums to their credit, they have established a reputation for social awareness, while also being known as one of the most powerful live bands and lasting legends in the punk genre.

Tickets for all shows go on sale February 20 at 10am local time.

“I’m 20(ish) years into doing this, and I’ve seriously never been more excited about a tour,” said Bentley “We had Zach out for a few shows last summer, and I knew right away that we had to do more together. It’ll be fun to figure out how to make it all come to life with a new album and new production.”

Mumford & Sons Release New Single “Malibu” From Upcoming Album RUSHMERE, Out March 28

0

Mumford & Sons share the second track to be lifted from their forthcoming fifth album, RUSHMERE. “Malibu” is streaming now. RUSHMERE will be released on March 28 through Island EMI Group / Glassnote.

“Malibu” plays beautifully with those close harmonies that helped to shape Mumford & Sons’ signature sound. The slow, multi-layered build and the swell of instruments in its eventual crescendo, “Malibu” is another timely example of what Mumford & Sons create so effortlessly as they reveal the shape and soul of RUSHMERE.

Marcus Mumford on “Malibu:” “’Malibu’ was the first song we wrote when we got back together in Los Angeles in January 2023. The song just felt like us, and the process of recording it with Dave [Cobb] captured it on record in a way that made us feel it had to open RUSHMERE. We love it.”

The track follows the recent announcement, and subsequent selling out, of an intimate global club tour that kicks off in Amsterdam on March 5 and concludes at Brooklyn’s Paramount on March 26. The 9-date run also brings the band home to London at the O2 Kentish Town Forum on March 9. All dates sold out within an hour of on sale. Further tour plans for later this year will be shared shortly.

At the weekend, Mumford & Sons were one of the special guests at SNL50: The Homecoming Concert at New York’s Radio City, performing a storming rendition of I Will Wait and a cover of The Boxer (with Jerry Douglas) by Simon & Garfunkel. The band also rocked up to Houston Hall to play a last-minute surprise ‘pop up’ set to stunned drinkers.

Rushmere is the spot where it all began for Mumford & Sons. The pond, located on Wimbledon Common in south-west London, is where Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, and Ted Dwane first hung out and imagined the initial idea of putting a band together. Rushmere was as familiar to them as the instruments they played, and is at the heart of their origin story. The track has already become one of the most played tracks on British radio since its launch.

The album was produced by nine-time Grammy winner Dave Cobb and recorded at RCA Studio A in Nashville, in Savannah, GA, and back in the UK at Marcus’ studio in Devon.

RUSHMERE is the beginning for Mumford & Sons’ next phase, and it follows an intense period of creativity for the trio.

Patterson Hood Releases “The Forks of Cypress” Featuring Waxahatchee, Announces 2025 Tour

0

Drive-By Truckers co-founder Patterson Hood has shared “The Forks of Cypress (feat. Waxahatchee),” the latest single (featuring Katie Crutchfield) from his landmark new solo album, Exploding Trees & Airplane Screams, arriving via ATO Records on Friday, February 21. Pre-orders are available now. An official music video – filmed by Bradley Wagner and Juan M. Soria at the historic Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY before Drive-By Truckers took the stage on their Southern Rock Opera Revisited Tour earlier this year and featuring aerial footage of Hood’s hometown of Florence, AL provided by local pilot John David Apkarian of Wings Over Bama – premieres today on YouTube.

“The Forks of Cypress a real place, a few miles just north of my hometown of Florence, Alabama,” says Patterson Hood. “A former plantation house, once owned by a cousin of Andrew Jackson, it was struck by a ‘lightning cluster’ in 1966 – when I was two – and exploded into flames, burning to the ground in under five minutes. All that was left were these huge columns, in a rectangle on top of the hill overlooking the meadow. It was right by a very creepy rickety one lane bridge that the locals called Ghost Bridge. I drove past this (and crossed the scary bridge) every week of my childhood on my way to my Great Uncle’s house (where I spent every weekend). Later, as a teenager, kids would drive dates out to Ghost Bridge and tell ghost stories and make out. The bridge was torn down about a decade ago.

“I wrote the song as pure fiction, inspired by those great story songs that Bobbie Gentry did, an ‘Ode to Billie Joe,’ etc., where she implies a story without really telling it. In my head, I heard Katie Crutchfield (Waxahatchee) singing it with me and was blessed that she was willing to do so. She’s one of my very favorite artists, and such a lovely person.

“The song was fleshed out wonderfully by Phil and Brad Cook (who played keyboards, dobro and bass on it), Dan Hunt on drums, and then Kevin Morby put the cherry on top with a stunning lead part.

“Whipped cream and cherry.”

Produced by Chris Funk (The Decemberists, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks) at various studios in Hood’s current hometown of Portland, OR, Exploding Trees & Airplane Screams marks the singer-songwriter-guitarist’s most expansive and ambitious extracurricular effort to date, supported by a stellar cast of friends and fellow musicians including Waxahatchee, Brad and Phil Cook (Megafaun), Kevin Morby, Wednesday, Brad Morgan and Jay Gonzalez (Drive-By Truckers), Steve Berlin (Los Lobos, The Blasters), David Barbe (Sugar, Mercyland), Nate Query (The Decemberists), Steve Drizos (Jerry Joseph and The Jackmormons), Daniel Hunt (Neko Case, M Ward), and Stuart Bogie (The Hold Steady, Goose).

The 10-track was heralded late in 2024 with the first single, “A Werewolf and a Girl,” featuring additional vocals from Lydia Loveless. A lyric video directed by Jason Shevchuk is streaming now on YouTube.

Hood will celebrate the arrival of Exploding Trees & Airplane Screams with an eagerly anticipated run of US headline dates. The Exploding Trees & Airplane Screams 2025 Tour – which will feature backing from his band, The Sensurrounders, along with support from special guest Lydia Loveless – gets underway March 18 at Somerville, MA’s Arts at the Armory and then travels into April. Hood – who is also set for a two-night solo stand at Little Rock, AR’s White Water Tavern on May 2-3 – will then reconvene with The Sensurrounders for a very special double bill alongside MJ Lenderman as part of Charleston, SC’s famed Spoleto Festival USA on May 24. Before the tour begins, Hood will be performing a stripped-down acoustic set and signing at Music Millenium for free in his hometown of Portland, OR on release day, February 21 at 6 PM.
