Suzanne Vega Returns with ‘Flying With Angels,’ First Album in Over a Decade, Out May 2
Widely regarded as one of the foremost songwriters of her generation or any other, Suzanne Vega is set to release her first full-length album of new music in over a decade. Flying With Angels is due May 2 on Cooking Vinyl. The record is produced by Vega’s longtime collaborator and guitarist Gerry Leonard (David Bowie, Rufus Wainwright, Laurie Anderson, Duncan Sheik), see below for a complete track listing. “Each song on the album takes place in an atmosphere of struggle,” notes Vega. “Struggle to survive, to speak, to dominate, to win, to escape, to help someone else, or just live.”
The album’s new single “Speakers’ Corner” acknowledges the increasingly political nature of communication today, when the ability to speak one’s mind is easier than ever on social media, and yet that privilege is often misused. Vega elaborates, “That’s something you don’t want in democracy: the shutting down of the Speakers’ Corner where people get a say. This is a moment in time when people are saying a lot, but sometimes they’re not making sense or not telling the truth. People should be accountable for what they say. They can’t just lie. In celebration of the forthcoming album Vega will tour throughout North America and Europe, performing an evening of career-spanning songs as well as showcasing material from the new album. Newly announced shows include New York’s Town Hall with special guests Suzzy Roche and Lucy Wainwright Roche as well as the Lincoln Theatre in Washington, D.C., World Café Live in Philadelphia and the Three Rivers Arts Festival in Pittsburgh. Of Vega’s performances The New York Times notes that she “is attentive to the realm of the unseen.” Finding Connecticut lauded a recent concert as “nothing short of mesmerizing, weaving tales through her soulful songs in a cozy setting that allowed for a deep connection with the audience.”
Vega emerged as a leading figure of the folk-music revival of the early 1980s. Since the release of her self-titled, critically acclaimed 1985 debut album, she has written and recorded numerous songs that have become part of the contemporary music vernacular, including “Luka,” “Marlene on the Wall” and “Tom’s Diner,” an a cappella piece that was remixed by U.K. electronic dance duo DNA and became a major club hit. It remains an oft-sampled and covered standard by artists across the musical spectrum. Her albums, including her self-titled debut, follow-up Solitude Standing and 99.9F have sold millions of copies worldwide.

Kenny Chesney Announces First Book HEARTLIFEMUSIC, Out Nov. 4, 2025
Kenny Chesney, one of American music’s most iconic songwriter/stadium fillers, will release his first book, HEART*LIFE*MUSIC, with William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, on Nov. 4, 2025. The freewheeling take on the superstar’s journey from small town East Tennessee dreamer to commanding the largest stages across the nation will capture the sparks of creativity, venture to places long gone, make unexpected music in Jamaica, the Kremlin, New England and Cabo San Lucas, drift across the waters of the Caribbean, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, encounter and collaborate with heroes, engage with a coterie of singular folks, friends and inspirations, and always find the joy of being unabashedly alive.
Raised largely by a single mother and extended family, Chesney’s life was built on sports, church, community – and the music he found everywhere. A gift of a guitar his freshman year and the resonance of East Tennessee State University’s Old Time Music and Bluegrass program sparked a passion no one saw coming. From playing for tips to trying to get a foot in the door, HEART*LIFE*MUSIC is a postcard from a Nashville that no longer exists: where songwriters define life, characters encourage young dreamers and a tenacious 20-something faced impossible odds and obstacles before starting to find a glimmer of success.

Azrieli Music Prizes Announce 2026 Call for Scores: $200,000 CAD Awarded to Composers Worldwide
The Azrieli Music, Arts and Culture Centre has recently announced a call for scores and proposals for its four major Azrieli Music Prizes (AMP). These prizes are open to composers from around the world, and in 2026 AMP is seeking works for choir and orchestra with optional soloists. The application period is open until May 2, 2025.
These biennial prizes were first awarded in 2014, and are one of the most generous monetary prizes of their kind in Canada.
Each laureate will receive a package valued at $200,000 CAD in total. This includes a cash prize of $50,000 CAD, as well as a premiere of their prize-winning work in Montréal (to be livestreamed globally), at least two subsequent international performances, and a commercial recording release.
The prizes cover a range of different themes, as follows:
- The Azrieli Commission for Canadian Music invites Canadian composers to propose new musical works that embrace the complexities of composing in Canada today.
- The Azrieli Commission for International Music invites composers worldwide to deeply engage in a creative interplay of cultures that have meaningful connections to their lived experience.
- The Azrieli Commission for Jewish Music invites composers to creatively and critically engage with the question, “What is Jewish music?”
- The Azrieli Prize for Jewish Music is awarded to a composer who has written the best new undiscovered work that engages with the question, “What is Jewish music?” Works may be nominated by individuals or institutions, including composer self-nomination. Eligible works may have been premiered within 75 years of the award date but must not have a significant performance history or be commercially recorded.
There are different jury members for the different categories. For Canadian Music, the jury includes Barbara Assiginaak, Kelly-Marie Murphy, David Pay, Colleen Renihan, and Ana Sokolović. For International Music, the jury consists of Chaya Czernowin, Margareta Ferek-Petrić, Jonathan Goldman, and Samy Moussa. For Jewish Music, the jury includes Ofer Ben-Amots, Avner Dorman, Neil W. Levin, Steven Mercurio, Gisèle Ben-Dor, and Na’ama Zisser.

GHOST Announces New Album SKELETÁ Out April 25
GHOST has confirmed the release of its feverishly awaited new album: SKELETÁ, the GRAMMY-winning Swedish theatrical rock icons’ first full length offering of new material since 2022’s international #1 charting IMPERA, will manifest April 25 via Loma Vista Recordings.
SKELETÁ’s impending arrival is heralded by anthemic first single “Satanized,” and its unsettling new video featuring a first glimpse of GHOST’s newly anointed ringleader Papa V Perpetua—whose ascension was foreshadowed by the recent V is Coming! campaign, which culminated in the recent Sin City conclave that saw him crowned. “A demonic possession unlike any before” has never sounded so sweet as it does here — An avalanche of infectious hooks and harmonies is buoyed by a hypnotic shuffle, as the narrator succumbs to dark forces within and without, helplessly acknowledging their own blasphemy and heresy as it inexorably consumes them. By the time the song’s opening lines “There is something inside me and they don’t know if there is a cure” have moved from the inner monologue of the possessed to the ears of the hapless listener, it will already be too late: You will have been “Satanized.”
Today also marks the debut of The Satanizer, a first of its kind music video experience for fans who wish to be “Satanized.” Developed in partnership with Jason Zada (Elf Yourself), The Satanizer will morph its users into characters featured in the song’s melodramatic video. With a quick upload of their photo, The Satanizer will send out a personalized music video clip featuring the participant, who can in turn share via social media that they too have been “Satanized.”

The genesis of SKELETÁ is rooted in the wake of a world-spanning years-long touring campaign in support of IMPERA—a period that saw IMPERA top album charts the world over and winning an American Music Award and an iHeart Radio Music Award, as well as the band earning its first RIAA-certified platinum single (“Mary on a Cross”) and presiding over the highest grossing hard rock cinema event in North American history (its feature film debut RITE HERE RITE NOW). As this sustained maelstrom ultimately wound down, GHOST mastermind Tobias Forge’s next uncharted creative direction would prove to be an inward journey. This deeply introspective turn in Forge’s creative process would ultimately result in SKELETÁ: a collection of 10 new songs originating from and cutting as close to the bone as (in)humanly possible.
GHOST’s sixth psalm, SKELETÁ, is its most unflinchingly introspective work to date. Where previous GHOST albums dealt largely with chronicling and/or observing outward facing subject matter—such as IMPERA’s meditations on the rise and fall of empires and its predecessor Prequelle’s evocations of the ravages of era-defining plagues—SKELETA’s lyrics render the distinct individual emotional vistas of each of its 10 songs in one-on-one fashion, at times as if in a dialogue with oneself in a mirror. The end result is a singular collection of timeless, universal sentiments, all filtered through a prism of a uniquely personal point of view.

The most ambitious incarnation of the GHOST live ritual to date, SKELETOUR WORLD TOUR 2025 recently revealed a first wave of more than 55 dates—including a historic first-ever headlining show at New York’s hallowed Madison Square Garden—with more to be announced. With tickets already selling at a brisk pace, the SKELETOUR WORLD TOUR 2025 ritual experience promises to expand the GHOST community to attract its largest and most diverse audiences to date. The Petaluma Music Festival is thrilled to announce its 18th annual event, taking place on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds in Petaluma, CA. More Than Just Great Music
“Keeping Music in the Schools” has been the festival’s guiding mission since its inception. Proceeds benefit local school music programs, helping to fund instruments, music lessons, and performance opportunities for students throughout the Petaluma area. Over the past 17 years, the Petaluma Music Festival has contributed significantly to fostering the next generation of musicians and artists.

Jazz Aspen Snowmass 2025: Star-Studded Lineup Announced for JAS June Experience
Jazz Aspen Snowmass (JAS) is thrilled to reveal the initial artist and venue lineup for the 2025 JAS June Experience, taking place June 26–29 in downtown Aspen. With concerts happening daily at twelve different venues, the JAS June Experience offers fans an immersive musical journey through jazz, blues, soul, funk, world, New Orleans traditions, and more.
“The JAS June Experience has found its footing in the last few years and now is marked by huge anticipation. The multi-venue format really has become as much the star as any individual Artist. So much to choose from in such a small area, the downtown core of Aspen,” said JAS President and CEO Jim Horowitz. “With planning heating up for JAS’ permanent home at The Paul JAS Center above the historic Red Onion, it’s exciting to imagine the future of this event when we add this new venue to our collection of diverse concert locations at the June Experience.”
From Grammy winners and nominees to the best emerging talents, international artists, vocalists, and instrumental groups, this year’s June Experience truly offers something for every music lover. Attendees can stroll from venue to venue throughout Aspen’s downtown core, with musicians often performing multiple times over the weekend—ideal for discovering new favorites or revisiting standout sets in an intimate, up-close setting.

The June Experience concludes with a New Orleans Brunch at the Rio Grande Park VIP Tent featuring Sasha’s Bloc, a hard-swinging jazz collective evoking the exuberant big band sounds of the 1920s–40s. Tickets include a classic New Orleans Jazz Brunch with bottomless mimosas, a Bloody Mary Bar, and authentic French Quarter–inspired cuisine.
