SiriusXM Canada and CCMA Announce 2025 Top of the Country Semi-Finalists

Today, SiriusXM Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Country Music Association, announced the eight semi-finalists advancing in the 2025 Top of the Country competition. The top eight now head into the studio to record original tracks before the competition heats up. Canadian country fans will have a chance to vote for their favourite artists and help decide on the top three. Once selected, the finalists will perform on some of Canada’s biggest stages. While the contest offers career-defining opportunities for several talented artists, only one will earn the coveted title of SiriusXM’s Top of the Country champion, along with the $25,000 grand prize.

From coast to coast, the 2025 SiriusXM Top of the Country semi-finalists are:

After Canadians vote for their favourites, the three finalists will embark on a summer of showcase opportunities including performing at Lasso Montréal (August 15-16, 2025) and attending the 2025 CMA Fest in Nashville. This year’s competition will reach its finale during Country Music Week 2025 in Kelowna in September, where the finalists will perform, and the winner will be announced live on-stage and broadcasted live on SiriusXM’s Top of the Country Radio (ch. 171).

Americana Music Association Announces Live Music Series at Toronto’s Horseshoe Tavern

The Americana Music Association, the Nashville, Tennessee-based organization that puts on the renowned celebration of American roots music, AMERICANAFEST, is thrilled to announce a new live music series spanning the month of March in collaboration with Toronto’s iconic Horseshoe Tavern.

This exciting partnership will showcase some of the finest up-and-coming Americana artists alongside established talents, offering fans an exclusive opportunity to experience live performances in one of the city’s most historic venues. Set to launch this March, the series will feature a curated lineup of diverse Americana acts, blending folk, country, blues, and rock influences into unforgettable live shows. Argentinian Band TRÍADA Shares Upbeat Rendition of “Rompí” and Announces Debut EP

The Argentinian band TRÍADA—comprised of Diamela Spina (percussion, vocals), Aylen Reynoso (guitar) and Julia Percowicz (vocals)— share “Rompí,” an upbeat yet vulnerable rendition of Uruguayan singer-songwriter Sofía Alvez’s love song. Over vibrant percussion and Aylen’s dynamic guitar playing, the band recounts the heartbreak that comes with saying goodbye:“Y está bien, mi amor, vos siempre fuiste el Sol y fui yo quien falló.”/“And it’s okay, my love, you were always the Sun and I was the one who failed.”

The Buenos Aires-based band formed at the performing arts school they attended together. The girls would make videos after class, recording covers of Bossa Nova classics like João Gilberto’s “O Pato,” which garnered over 2 million views on Instagram Reels. Eventually, “O Pato” became their first proper release, solidifying their far-reaching sound and global audience. Alongside the announcement of De Versiones y Alma, came their recent single “Sale La Luna,” which earned praise from HOLA! and Remezcla. De Versiones y Alma, their debut EP, offers listeners a chance to step into their jam session, enveloped in their comforting vocals and sisterly sound. Through their romantic covers, TRÍADA embraces percussion and guitar, transforming songs from around the world with a fresh Argentine flair.

Initially tapping into progressive rock and experimenting with a post-punk vibe, the three friends later freely dove into the sounds that formed them: folklore, jazz, bossanova, and acoustic music from singer songwriters like Jorge Drexler, Los Panchos, Gustavo Peña, Zoe Gotusso and more. Now, the trio is taking their love across borders and language barriers with an EP that calls to artists from Uruguay, Brazil, the UK, and, of course, Argentina. A group of friends at their core, TRÍADA blends genres and reimagines their favorite songs in their voice. “We don’t know what the future holds; we haven’t produced our album yet,” they assess, “but we’re super clear on the fact that our Argentinian roots, and more broadly our Latino roots, will be there.”

At 19, Diamela, Aylen and Julia are young but they contain old souls, breathing new life and the spirit of Buenos Aires into classic songs for a Gen Z and Gen Alpha audience. Their name, TRÍADA, references the musical term for three notes that make a single chord, as the three girls morph into a sonic sisterhood.

Tony Ann Releases Sophomore Album ‘360°’ and Announces Worldwide Tour Dates

Reaching yet another creative high watermark, piano virtuoso, multiplatinum songwriter, and social media sensation Tony Ann just released his anxiously awaited full-length sophomore album, 360°, on February 21, 2025 via Decca Records. Over the past year and until now, he has released a new single corresponding to the astrological sign of the month. Listen to the 12 tracks, including the last one PISCES (nicknamed “The Artist”).

Once again, Tony Ann advances creatively on 360°. Each song functions as a meditation on a different horoscope, encompassing 12 keys at different meters and tempos. It plunges listeners into a living and breathing musical ecosystem punctuated by bliss and catharsis. He employs the full range of the piano to evoke the singularity of these respective astrological signs. The entire suite revolves around his virtuosic chops, melodic empathy, and electrifying energy. Regarding the concept for the full project, Aries is the first sign of the astrological year. It begins with the Spring Equinox. Next, the astrological signs follow the seasons, which are correlated with the earth’s rotation around the sun (a 360-degree cycle). This offers four highlights: the Summer Solstice (90 degrees), the Autumn Equinox (180 degrees), the Winter Solstice (270 degrees) and the Spring Equinox (360 degrees).

In other news, Tony started an international tour in 2024 and will continue in 2025. It will start in March with his debut tour in Australia, and then Europe. More dates to come. He had his first viral hit in 2024 with ICARUS: +55M streams and +2M creations on socials.

Secret Garden Celebrates 30th Anniversary of Debut Album ‘Songs from a Secret Garden’

The Norwegian-Irish duo Secret Garden, consisting of Rolf Løvland and violinist Fionnuala Sherry, proudly announces the 30^th anniversary of their debut album, “Songs from a Secret Garden”. Originally released in 1995, the album put the duo on the international map with its unique combination of classical and folk music in instrumental and vocal settings, and special blend of Celtic-Norwegian emotion and energy. The album features the iconic song ‘Nocturne’, which secured Norway´s victory in the Eurovision Song Contest in May of that same year.

To celebrate the anniversary, the album will be remastered and re-released on special digital, vinyl and CD editions. The global launch is scheduled for the 15^th of May 2025, exactly 30 years after the original release and the historic Eurovision victory. The special edition includes a remastered version of ‘Nocturne’ which will be released around Norway’s annual music competition, Melodi Grand Prix, on February 14^th.

Secret Garden has achieved remarkable success over three decades with over three billion streams and five million album sales, and successful tours in many countries across the world. The duo has 113 platinum awards to their name from multiple global territories, and their music is frequently used on platforms like TikTok, Instagram and Facebook, where their songs enjoy billions of views.

2025 also marks composer Rolf Løvland’s 70^th birthday, celebrating his impressive career as one of Norway’s greatest living musical exports. Løvland stands behind two Eurovision victories (‘La det swinge’ with Bobbysocks in 1985 and ‘Nocturne’ in 1995), and the worldwide success of his song ‘You Raise Me Up’ – which has been recorded by over 1000 artists and is one of the most-covered songs in modern music history – is an important part of his and Secret Garden’s legacy. It is often referred to as “one of the songs of the century.”

Canadian Hip-Hop Legend k-os Unveils Anniversary Reissue ‘BLack on BLonde+’

Canadian hip-hop pioneer k-os unveils the 2025 anniversary reissue of his 2013 BLack on BLonde, a groundbreaking double album. BLack on BLonde+ remains a unique fusion of rock anthems and classic hip-hop beats, and its title—a nod to Bob Dylan’s Blonde on Blonde—reflects the album’s diverse and genre-defying essence.

“5th album forced me into the 5th dimension. Feels like the first 4 records were just the research I needed to invoke BLack On BLonde. Dimension 5 is an echelon of measure that’s curved in on itself ever so tightly. Somewhere in the midst of making the album I felt that internal curve happen to me. When I discovered due to a meta error that BLack On BLonde was not released anywhere else in the world aside from Canada and the U.S. I listened to it again, like for the first time, like a first time listener. It held up real good, and the sonic journey was a mind bending experience! So here it is, just ICYMI it, BLack On BLonde+ an unearthed, ambiguous, meta error” says k-os.

The reissue not only honors the original album but also introduces a brand-new track, “Pocket Dial,” adding an exciting new dimension to this already disruptive work. It unveils fresh insights, such as the iconic influence of Neil Young, whose sound is sampled on the track “Play This Game.”

Originally recorded at Hayden Christensen’s deserted Laurel Canyon mansion, BLack on BLonde holds an important place in Canadian music history as k-os became the first Canadian hip-hop artist to release a double album. With its fusion of rock and old-school hip-hop, this project shattered expectations and set the stage for future genre-blending artists, including Drake, who has cited k-os as a key inspiration for his Scorpion album.

BLack on BLonde features exciting collaborations from a varied array of guests, including Black Thought (The Roots), Travie McCoy (Gym Class Heroes), Emily Haines (Metric), Sebastien Grainger (Death From Above 1979), Juno Award-winning Canadian rock singer/songwriter Sam Roberts and many others. Always innovative, provocative, and fearless, k-os showcases said versatility by singing and playing drums, guitar and bass throughout the album.

k-os (“chaos”) is the stage name for Canadian alternative rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer Kevin Brereton. k-os debut album, Exit released in 2002 and received positive reviews and critical acclaim. He has never been afraid to shake things up and experiment with different genres. In 2003, k-os collaborated with The Chemical Brothers on their single “Get Yourself High,” which was nominated for ‘Best Dance Recording’ at the 2005 Grammy Awards. Joyful Rebellion, the Platinum-certified second album that won three Juno Awards, was released in 2004 and featured a total of six singles, including the international hit “Crabbuckit”, which won ‘Best Pop Video’ at the annual MuchMusic Video Awards, along with ‘Best Songwriter’ and ‘Fan Choice Award’ at the 2005 Canadian Urban Music Awards. His follow-up album, Atlantis, shipped Platinum, making k-os the first Black hip-hop artist ever to do so. From 1996 to 2016, k-os was the third best-selling Canadian hip-hop artist in Canada. He went on to release Yes! Rising R&B star Chxrry22 returns with an upbeat and undeniable new single entitled “Just Like Me” out now via XO Records/Republic Records. It notably marks her first release of 2025 and sets the stage for a whole lot more to come.

The track’s keyboard-laden throwback beat layers glitchy claps above a thumping bassline.
