Animal Liberation Orchestra Announces New Album Frames and 2025 Tour Dates Featuring Special Guests

0

Celebrated band ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra) has announced the April 4th release of their eclectic new album Frames (Brushfire Records) and new tour dates that include an East Coast run (see full list below). The 10-song offering boasts a seamless fusion of rock, electronic, alt-pop, R&B, folk, dance, funk and a touch of subtle wit, all played by an exceptional group of musicians with four distinct musical personalities – all of whom write and sing lead.

Today the California-based group releases their buoyant new single “Blank Canvas.” With its melodic guitar riff and easy-going vibe, “Blank Canvas” offers some much-needed optimism. Zach Gill (keyboards and vocals) says of the track he penned, “it’s about looking at the world with fresh eyes and leaving behind cynicism.” Bassist/vocalist Steve Adams adds, “sonically and thematically, it felt like the perfect album opener. Bare and vulnerable, yet full of possibility.”

The theme running throughout Frames is a reaction to the rapid pace in which we live our lives. Due to the overwhelming rate in which information is thrust upon us, and the figurative groups (or frames) they come in, people are constantly challenged to decide what is vital and what is not before much of it dissipates, often leaving a societal wreckage in its wake. On Frames, ALO thoughtfully leans into the important space between those frames, where we can breathe, think, love and live our lives. Guitarist/vocalist Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz covers this beautifully on the disco-influenced track “Space Between Frames.”

Drummer/vocalist Ezra Lipp addresses identifying our faults and learning to own them without letting them own us on the alt-rock infused “Rescue Our Demons.” Frames closes with the light-hearted pop ditty, “Friends.” The warm and happy sentiment the quirky track exudes could put a smile on Randy Newman’s face.

At a time when things may seem a bit dark, Frames offers a joyful escape by a band of life-long friends who became serious artists, unafraid to not take themselves too seriously while creating some seriously well-crafted songs.

John Lodge of The Moody Blues Adds New Dates to USA Tour for February and March 2025

0

John Lodge, legendary bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues, and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, will be back on the road in February and March with his electrifying ‘Performs Days of Future Passed’ show, featuring a first set of Moody Blues classic hits, and a second set of this iconic album, performed in its entirety.

The tour kicks off on February 19th at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, and includes 12 dates in the NE, Midwest and Florida, plus his appearance on the ‘Rock and Romance Cruise’, sailing out of Fort Lauderdale on March 15. Then John will be taking his show to the UK for the very first time – ‘Bringing it Home’!

This is a unique opportunity to hear fan favorites such as ‘Isn’t Life Strange’, ‘Legend of a Mind’, ‘I’m Just a Singer (in a Rock and Roll Band)’ and ‘Ride my See-Saw’, plus this groundbreaking album. John and his band lovingly recreate these classic songs, in full symphonic glory, and together with his tributes to his bandmates, and the mesmerizing video of Graeme Edge reciting his poetry, the audience is truly transported back to Moody Blues concerts of the past.

Following a stroke at the end of 2023, John has gone from strength to strength, driven by his love for this music, and his deeply held desire to continue to share it with the fans. The critically acclaimed shows in July and November 2024 are testament to his passion and commitment, and as John says, his hope is that people leave with a little bit of joy, and certainly the audience can be seen leaving with Moodies magic around them.

Joining John on stage are his 10,000 Light Years Band featuring Alan Hewitt and Billy Ashbaugh (from the Moody Blues touring band), Duffy King and Jason Charboneau, plus Jon Davison of YES will again be joining John on stage to provide his soaring vocals on ‘Nights in White Satin’ and ‘Tuesday Afternoon’.

“A lot of these places we used to go to as the Moody Blues, and I just want to give the fans a sense of that time again. It may not be a Moody Blues show, but Alan, Billy, Duffy, Jason and, of course Jon, create an incredible energy on stage, and such beautiful music. Then when Graeme appears on screen, and I turn to hear his beautiful words, it all makes me feel part of something very special, and I can feel I share it with the audience. Being on stage with them all, I think we all smile together, all of us on stage, and all of those in the audience. It’s a little moment away from the challenges of life.”

“Days of Future Passed” was released 58 years ago, and was arguably the start of progressive rock. John has surrounded himself with a band who put simply, love performing together, and who appreciate and respect the legacy of the music. The Moodies may not perform any more, and the loss of Graeme, Ray and Mike is felt deeply, but this show honours John’s friends and the music.

The electrifying show will also be in support of John’s new EP “Love Conquers All” out on Feb 14th, and available now for pre-order on Amazon and other online stores. Signed copies are also available including limited edition vinyl. The first single ‘Love Will Conquer All’ is available now on all streaming services and hit the No. 1 spot over New Year on the Fab Chart.

Big Head Todd and the Monsters Celebrate Their 40th Anniversary With Two Nights at Red Rocks Amphitheatre

0

Big Head Todd and the Monsters are gearing up to celebrate their 40th Anniversary with two special nights at their hometown haunt, Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado. This will be the 37th time that the band has performed at this spectacular venue.

The party kicks off on Saturday, June 7th, with Cracker opening the show, followed by Chicago pop icons Cheap Trick, then headliner Big Head Todd and the Monsters taking the stage. “We are honored to be sharing the stage with Cheap Trick. Todd continues, “I cannot wait to see this iconic band in such an awe-inspiring setting.”

The celebration continues on Sunday, June 8th, with Bill Murray (yup, that Bill Murray) and his Blood Brothers, Albert Castiglia, and Mike Zito, jump-starting the show, followed by Warren Haynes Band; and closing the show, Big Head Todd and the Monsters.

2024 was an action-packed year for BHTM. They released their 12th album, Her Way Out, via Big Records and toured relentlessly. Fans and critics agreed that the record was a knockout, containing a collection of gems surrounded by outstanding musicianship for which the band is known and loved.

Denver’s Westword declared, “Her Way Out is the kind of album that’s meant to be played while speeding down a mountain road, chasing that Wild West type of freedom that this Colorado band has always evoked.”. Blues Music Magazine declared, “If you want a blues-rock album with a captivating sound that will encourage frequent listening, this one’s for you.” And Glide Magazine stated, “This LP compels the question of whether there is a band on the planet more comfortable in its collective skin than Big Head Todd and the Monsters. There’s a well-earned and deserved confidence that radiates out in all directions for the whole of this thirty-nine-minute playing time.”

Sex Pistols Set to Release Three Full Live Albums From Band’s Legendary 1978 US Tour

0

Sex Pistols fans will finally be able to judge for themselves with the release for the first time of three full live albums from the band’s legendary 1978 US tour.

Sex Pistols singer and lyricist Johnny Rotten signed off with the immortal words on stage at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco on 14th January 1978 – the band’s final show until they reformed in 1996.

This year will see the San Francisco show and performances in Atlanta (South East Music, 5th January 1978) and Dallas (Longhorns Ballroom, 10th January 1978) given special edition coloured vinyl releases before all three are made available in a three-CD set and for digital download.

Even had the band not imploded soon afterwards, the tour would still have had a place in rock and roll history, the band’s reputation preceding it across America’s conservative heartlands.

John Rotten (aka Lydon), Paul Cook, Steve Jones and Sid Vicious were sent into venues primed for confrontation, police ready to clamp down on any signs of anarchy and religious protesters rallying to see off the unholy Brits.

Audiences were provoked, objects flew, tensions brewed, cracks widened among the Pistols themselves – but amidst it all was delivered some of the rawest and most honest music that the country that birthed rock and roll had ever seen. ‘God Save the Queen’, ‘Bodies’, and the re-targeted ‘Anarchy in the USA’ – all launched at the crowds and the onlooking authorities.

Now, we came to dance – what did you come for?” says Rotten before the band rip into ‘God Save The Queen’ in Atlanta, and then: “That was the new British National Anthem.”

The newly mastered recordings put the listener right amongst the sweating, bellowing crowd. “Aren’t we the worst thing you’ve ever seen?” asks Rotten – but in truth the roar of Jones’s guitar and the raw snarl of his vocal are exactly what they want.

A radio advert for the Dallas show proclaims: “They said no one could be more bizarre than Alice Cooper or more destructive than Kiss. They have not seen the Sex Pistols…Banned in their own home country, England’s Sex Pistols denied admittance to the United States – the Sex Pistols bring the new wave to the Metroplex this Tuesday night in the Longhorn Ballroom.”

After the band crashed through The Stooges’ ‘No Fun’ in San Francisco, Rotten challenged the crowd directly: “Ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated?

Within days, he announced his departure and the Sex Pistols explosion, detonated in the turmoil of the late 1970s, was over. These primal recordings document the final shockwaves of a band that changed pop culture forever.

Rising Duo MacKenzie Porter and Jake Etheridge (Thelma & James) Can’t Be “Happy Ever After You”

0

A result of the first co-write in over a decade between Nashville-based singer-songwriters MacKenzie Porter and Jake Etheridge, the married duo release their viral duet “Happy Ever After You” today.

Affectionately dubbing their musical partnership Thelma & James, Porter and Etheridge shared an impromptu video that garnered over five million views nearly overnight while praise rolled in from fans and fellow artists like John Mayer, Luke Combs, Brandi Carlile, Natasha Bedingfield, ERNEST, Ella Langley, and more, leading to the song’s official release. Showcasing the pair’s chemistry, the resonating chorus stings:

I got a hole in my heart damn near the size of Texas and I think you left it
I got a picture of you and me circa 2019
Don’t know why I kept it
I got a story I tell myself until my face is in the blue
But I got no happy ever after you

We met songwriting, fell in love and chose to keep our careers separate as we have pretty different tastes in music,” share Porter and Etheridge. “Usually in the morning before we both leave for our separate writes we jokingly ask, ‘got any good hooks I can steal?’ and ‘happy ever after you’ was one thrown out some months back.

Luckily, we ended up just writing it together. It’s amazing what this little moment has turned into already. Sometimes it’s just right under your nose (or bed) the whole time,” concludes the pair.

The release follows a year of global success for Porter including the release of her 19-song debut album Nobody’s Born With A Broken Heart, co-hosting the CCMA Awards with Thomas Rhett where she was crowned Female Artist of the Year, as well as touring alongside Keith Urban and Parker McCollum.

Rising to international acclaim with a distinct country-pop shimmer, Canada-born, Nashville-based rising star MacKenzie Porter’s sound knows no borders. Making a statement with her 19-track Big Loud Records debut, Nobody’s Born With A Broken Heart, Porter shines across the project EUPHORIA. Magazine praises as having “a song on it for everyone.” The 2022 MusicRow Discovery Artist of the Year has earned global buzz for her “clear sound that instantly cuts deep” (CMT), earning nominations at the American Music Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards, CMT Awards, JUNO Awards, and has earned a whopping 28 CCMA Awards nominations, including a nod for Entertainer of the Year. Last fall, she co-hosted the CCMAs in Edmonton, Alberta, alongside Thomas Rhett.

The sparkling talent has made high-profile global appearances on The Kelly Clarkson ShowGood Morning AmericaJimmy Kimmel Live!, CBC q, The Morning Show, and many more. Porter broke out in 2022 with chart-dominating, six-week U.S. No. 1 “Thinking ‘Bout You” with duet partner Dustin Lynch, building on international success as the first female this century to have six No. 1 songs at Canadian country radio and adding to over 920 million global on-demand streams. The quadruple threat (singer / songwriter / multi-instrumentalist / actor) stars across both stage and screen, part of the cast of Netflix’s cult-followed sci-fi television series Travelers and a series regular in AMC’s Hell On Wheels, acting when she’s not impressing with her “mesmerizing vocals and hook-driven songs” (Billboard). Porter has toured the globe opening for Kenny Chesney, Blake Shelton, Keith Urban, Walker Hayes, Jordan Davis, Brad Paisley, Dallas Smith, Rascal Flatts, and recently wrapped her own Canadian headline tour.

How a Young Ridley Scott Helped Convince Tea-Loving Brits to Drink Coffee

In 1970, a BBC mini-documentary captured how the Coffee Promotion Council enlisted ad agency BBDO and a young Ridley Scott to convince tea-loving Brits to embrace coffee. Aimed at the youth, the campaign sought to change habits with bold advertising. The result was a fascinating look at how creativity can shape culture, led by one of cinema’s future visionaries.
